Rate this book
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the world's economy down to its knees. Iceland, a country that has been strongly impacted by the virus, seeks to join Canada so that it can regain its economic stability. Although the decision was made democratically through a referendum, not everyone views the decision positively. When Canada pursues new interests under the benefit of its new province, the people opposed to Iceland's ascension into Canada become violent. It's up to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Iceland's local forces to stabilise the region and find out who is rallying the dissidents to become violent. The culprit may not be who they expect.

This book had an original and entertaining plot. It involved Canadian politics and contained an easy-to-follow, action-packed story. There was political maneuvering, manipulation, referendums, and attempts to reach a consensus in parliament. I liked that Prime Minister Trudeau and President Putin were named as characters. I was pleased no Trump was lurking in the background and stirring up trouble. 3.5 stars raised to 4 for no Trump involvement.

Iceland was in an economic recession and requested that they join Canada as an 11th province, but with special privileges. Iceland's vote to become part of Canada was passed by a small majority, whereas the Canadian voting results were highly positive. The other ten provinces learned of the special concessions given to Iceland and demanded the same. Dissension led to a heavily armed and equipped band of Icelandic terrorists stirring up trouble and demanding their country's independence.

Canada now placed the claim that they were now part of Europe and wanted to join the EU. They set up a Nato base in the north of Iceland, alarming Putin. To make matters worse, the Canadian plan was to run a natural gas line across to Europe, which would ruin Russia's sale of gas to Europe. Seeing a decline in his economy enraged President Putin.

A significant role in the story is that of an RCMP officer who is in a strained relationship with his girlfriend in Iceland. Now the RCMP will be the major police force in her country, and she demands he requests a transfer to Iceland. His requests are turned down by the RCMP authorities.

Meanwhile, Icelandic terrorists are causing havoc and bloodshed. They lay siege to the Canadian embassy in Germany, and attack Ottawa where Trudeau's life is endangered. He is rescued by the Mounties but some injuries and deaths occur. The RCMP plays a major role in ending these riots. The terrorists seem to have endless resources in weapons and military equipment. The NATO base in Iceland comes under fire. Some Canadians have already moved to their own suburb in Iceland, and this comes under heavy attack. The RCMP and military eventually prevail and it looks like the terrorist danger has ended.

At the conclusion, Putin is meeting with his allies to plan retaliation against Canada. He is joined by China and Iran, and hoping to cause trouble for Canada, and wants to include North Korea and former Soviet countries into a plan.

This opens up the way to another sequel. Will there be another Cold War, or a hotter one? I was entertained and amused by the story and the action but wondered what if a similar scenario could occur in real life.

Ok I took one for the team and that random dude that keeps pushing this shit on people, probably a troll. This is sooooooo incredibly bad. I'm guessing self-published. But if it's for free on Kindle you might read it for laughs if you're the type who enjoys cringe and second hand embarrassment. The premise is: "By Iceland's ascension into our country [Canada], we will finally be geographically in Europe ... We could join the European Union and get access to their funding" LOL
Also there is some dead boring cop dude and I have no idea what the point of him is halfway through the 'story', the main character seems to be Justin Trudeau...

Whilst visiting his girlfriend Lydia in Iceland, Calam witnessed crowds gathering to voice their displeasure at the financial failings of the country. A referendum proposing that Iceland join Canada as the 11th province was declared. The people of Iceland said Yes and the people of Canada said Yes but this would have major repercussions on the remaining 10 provinces, as the island was given special status. Now the battles begin! The author has created a unique storyline, that has you captivated from the start. The plot builds with each chapter and ends with some major, thought provoking situations that are quite frightening in reality and show the power that some of the big hitting players have. A fantastic read by a talented author. Respect!

The main theme in this book is interesting. The idea is that because of economic circumstances Iceland would join the Canadian Federation to become the 11th province. However, I found the ideas in the novel simplistic and not in sync with how federation really functions and the process that would be required for it to be enlarged in any way. Some of the conversations were stilted and rather contrived, but the action was exciting and held the reader's attention.
