Max finally found Arinna, daughter of the god of death and heir to the throne. He defeated a powerful enemy and dozens of griffin knights to do it, but finding a way to free her completely has proved more difficult than he imagined. Now he's tumbling through the void, doing everything he can to keep her within his grasp.
The monster he'll face is the most terrifying yet. To have a chance Max will be forced to face his own demons and embrace the true power of the dark. It's been his path since the beginning, the only question now Does he have what takes?
I am Tim Paulson, writer of fantasy and science fiction.
I'm currently writing the Bone knight litRPG series. It's fun to revisit the game worlds I enjoyed when I was young. I grew up with Final Fantasy, Mechwarrior, Dragon warrior (known to many as Dungeon Quest), and X-COM. These games, along with a whole lot of movies and books, have informed what I think is cool: Impossible odds and grave decisions with monumental stakes.
Bone knight book nine, the finale for the series, is currently underway. After that is complete, I have a new litRPG series already planned that should come out in time for Christmas 2022.
Also: Audiobooks are on the way and a Boneknight RPG game is currently in development.
If you've enjoyed my books, please leave a review.
READ THIS BOOK ITS AWESOME! My usual complaint the book is too short and more the size of a novella, but they manage to pack in more than most full-sized books do. This book is like a runaway steam roller, fast paced, full of action, magic, great characters, and enormous fun to read. To the authors 827 spider children, Mytten the giant spider is awesome. But so too is scruff.
In the last book Arinna under the control of the scion the light inserted into her, jumped from the back of the airship and Max jumped after her. After a valiant fight the light manage to take her back but Max won’t be thwarted for long and races knowingly into a trap to save her. In doing so he crashes into the deep ocean and discovers an ancient underwater strong hold of the Dark where he must complete the trials to become a Dread Knight in order to leave. The trials and how Max completes them are an absolute masterpiece and pure brilliance by the author. Fun, funny, and a sheer delight to read. Whilst this is happening Trina and Mytten get captured and locked up by the light, and Tela and their ship confiscated. Trina and Mytten manage a daring prison break and free the air pirates as well before going to help Max. Meanwhile Brittney the lights champion didn’t take her defeat and death at the hands of Max very well and is sulking and refusing to move until she’s threatened directly by a god of the light and under orders to kill Max no matter the cost. Max uses one of his four available skill class upgrades Dark Summoner and gets a scary and powerful summons with which he enters into a contract with that he cant tell others about. (Did he not learn from book 4!!?)
As usual the author has managed to step it up a gear yet again. More action, more characters, more fun. More use of classes and class skills and levelling. You can tell by the writing that the author had fun writing these books and he manages to infect the reader with the obvious enjoyment and enthusiasm with which he wrote them.
The quest continues! Max is still plugging away trying to save Arinna from the creepy thing that now lives inside of her. Trina is pushing through her own storyline and trying to get back to Max. I am a big Max fan so I have to say, I enjoyed his perspective more.
For me what appeals is the witty banter back and forth. Max is the expert at it. “Fine, your name is gigantic a**hole.” He always gets a snort, chuckle or a smile out of me. I really liked that the author had him confront people in his life that made him feel lesser, embarrassed or down on himself. It was all part of the quest, but I feel like Max grew as a person by doing that. He has come so far and I am proud of him. He knows that it is okay to fail and to only live up to the expectations YOU set and not others. I liked that we finally circled back and touched upon his tension filled relationship with his father.
We also finally get some action and resolution with the Arinna storyline. That is why the whole quest started after all, to save her. After finishing this novel I’m like “what now?” “Isn’t that the end?” I don’t know where the author is going to take us next. I am hopeful that the conclusion does take Max to his father and there is a face to face confrontation. I hope Max actually becomes human again too. I also want a little bit of romance in his life. There are hints of it now, but it is so so subtle. Most importantly, I flipping hope Raeg comes back. That was a bummer, no cameo there. Maybe next time?
I enjoyed the hell out of this series. I'm 54. It was well written. Had none of the nonsense that most litrpgs have. Max is just good people not filled with the need to protect that's so sickening sweet is a lot of these books. He and his cohorts are just doing what they need to do in order to survive they are not filled with heroic morality and the need to serve and protect the weak. I particularly enjoyed that max is a skeleton so there was no sexual stuff cuz.. he's bones. And bathing in gore to heal?? That war quite funny. I look forward to reading more books by mr.paulson... was kinda discworldish in the humor... well done.
First thing’s first, I would like to greet Tim’s myriad spider children. You are loved. Carry my regards to your father ; )
Now for the review proper: Ever since I started the first book in this series I couldn’t put it down. Just as before, I am extremely excited to see what sort of shenanigans our boi Max gets up to next, especially now that he’s finally found Arinna. Btw, I ship it. Now to sit back and wait for the next one
This book was definitely one of the shorter ones, but it had great pacing and was a super easy read. It’s also nice to see our main character Max getting stronger and stronger!! The grind is finally paying off! Can’t wait for the next book!:)
The book had me on the edge of my seat absolutely amazing, and to all the spider children tell your father I'm looking forward to the next book, I would deeply appreciate it if it came out soon!!
As usual this was a fun read, barely a few hours. Quite a few spelling errors and other mistakes, but not enough to be annoying. Hey 827 spiders, can you pass that last bit on. I very much look forward to reading the next book.
