What is the formula for love?

Architectural engineer Mae Adams lives by her checklists --and she has them for everything from her sustainable housing project to her sex life. What makes the perfect man? Mae's had that checklist since she was 18-- and West Point cadet Radison Kilmer checked every box.

Despite its painful ending, Mae's never forgotten Rad or their brief 2006 tryst. Was he her one chance at happiness? But then another military man, Lt. Boseman McCallum, two-steps into her life. A charming god-and-country soldier on the cusp of being sent to a war zone, Bose burns Mae's list and wastes no time in re-writing it to capture Mae's heart.

There's only one problem: he's Rad's best friend.

The moment Mae is reunited with her first flame, the fire between them is reignited full blast. All of her carefully-laid plans begin to topple as she realizes that, although Bose is the passionate spark that thrills her days, Rad is the steady blue ember that will never die. These two driven and ambitious men have a history of competing and coveting each other's laurels...

And now she is the prize they both seek to claim.

Which man to choose: the one whose charm and good humor are the opposite of her own more serious nature? Or the one whose soul speaks the same language as her own?

This brilliant and unconventional heroine's choice will have consequences that reverberate through nearly two decades as Mae, Bose and Rad come to terms with the meaning of "love," "commitment" and "family."

From the author of His Private Dancer and The Duchess of Rochester, Coveted is the story of jealousy, sacrifice and the triumph of true love.

The Military Angle Was Different

*****Spoilers*****

I liked it though nothing in particular I can point to to say one thing really captured me. I'd say it's more just under a 4 but I bumped it a little higher due to the ending, despite how improbable things were. Rad and Bose are best friends and due to circumstances, they both get intimate with Mae. Rad was a single night before they both went off to college, he and Mae connecting from the losses of their mothers due to the terrorist attacks on the world trade center. Bose a more long term boyfriend/fiance whose charm ensnares Mae from meet. We get more Bose than Rad so it's a bit lopsided in that way but the general theme is that birthday neither man is able to resist Mae. She has a connection to them both and in the end, they marry. The logistics of it was too complicated as explained once they all agreed to at the end of the book. There's four houses between the three of them and they have careers. She's an architect, they're both military men but serve differently.

Mae was in her head a lot, planning and trying to determine what to do when it came to everything. Lists, lists, and more lists. In that way, she's similar to Rad. Bose is the personality, the engaging one that brings the excitement. Even though Bose and Rad are competitive, they're more like brothers and the book doesn't read so much from the viewpoint of either of them covering Mae.

There were issues an editor could fix and certain things I found to be this side of unrealistic. That both men skyrocket in terms of military rank in 9 years was interesting, especially given that 4 of those years were in the military college. Mae's anxiety that came from nowhere was puzzling to me as well. The resolution was much too easy as well, Rad and Bose agreeing to a throuple without much convincing and after they'd just gotten into a physical fight over Mae when they learn she's been intimate with them both in a 24 hour span. Don't get me wrong, it's not that Mae was cheating on Bose the whole time, she'd given up on him and them being married because Bose never came home to stay. Rad chose the perfect time to reveal himself to Make and get back into her life. It was the perfect storm because it was before Bose revealed his surprise presence on Christmas after many years of disappointments, letting Mae know he was finally home to stay after his deployment to Afghanistan. Rad was also deployed to Afghanistan but he was covert operations and had to disguise himself to do so. It just felt too surface level and not deep enough at times.

Karyn Langhorne's Coveted tell the story of Mae, Bose, Rad and their unconventional journey towards finding a happily ever after. They are caught up in a wealth of emotions ranging from love, envy and jealousy. Rad and Bose are best friends but are also very competitive with each other and it's no different when it comes to Mae's love. Both men love and want Mae and neither of them are wanting to let her go. Will they figure out a way out to resolve their relationship or will competing against each other prove to be too much for Mae? I loved the story and I highly recommend it.

A chance meeting of like minds between Mae and Radison, leads to the unsuspecting meeting years later on of Mae and Boseman. Mae is in the middle, the connecter between two friends. Is there more to the meeting of Bose and Mae than meets the eye? Bose has always wanted what Rad has. Ever since they were kids. Could Mae be the final straw to break this connection between best friends. A very good read.

Karyn Langhorne never fails to surprise and entertain. Her latest offering, Coveted, certainly continues this trend. Her writing is crisp and her characters all but spring off the page. Going beyond conventional relationships, Ms. Langhorne gives us a twist that I was not expecting. The love and passion running through this story is palatable. If you are looking for a love story that does not conform to “cookie cutter” formulas, this is the story for you!

I loved this book. If it’s meant to be a black woman white man romance per the cover, you can’t really tell it by the story. Although the story is about a love triangle, I thought it was so original and well fleshed out. Bose and Rad meet and fall in love with Mae. The love stories are interesting with the eventual resolution being a reverse harem situation which is only a small part of the story.

Ummm, this was…….interesting. I was not prepared for a MMF romance type despite the cover. Mae was gentle and sweet but I did not agree with the deceit towards the end. In my opinion, she played both of them and came off selfish and greedy. I did however love both Rad and Bose. Rad was the silent, strong, and level headed type. Bose was charismatic, romantic, and easy going. I could understand Mae being greedy but at the same time I don’t agree with it if that makes sense.

Beautiful Untraditional Love Story

Ms Langhorne writes a beautiful love story that explores a polyamorous relationship. As a fan of MFM and reverse harem romance stories, I am so pleased to find this book. Such books rarely feature female main characters of color. The plot is intriguing and the characters are well developed. The dialogue is natural and witty. I highly recommend this book.

Team Rad: The First Is Best

Rad and Bo are a hot mess, but I love them both...not equally. I admit I'm bias. When you read this book, like I know you will, you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about. This book deserves every star given despite the fact that I hated the ending. The protagonist, she's a hot mess too, but I can relate to these very real characters. Spoiler Alert: To each it's own.

OMG

Finding your true love at 18 as a one night stand and losing him to his career and ambitions. To find him later after meeting and falling for hos best friend. Who are both in the military and spent plenty of time away from their loved ones. Thanks for putting the military home front experience out the so others can seethe loneliness that family members go through. The brother husband is a good concept. Good read

Surprisingly excellent!

I did not know what to expect based on the cover, and title. However, I found a well written, richly layered novel about the complexities of love, and loss. I know the publishers want to attract the romance crowd, but perhaps they should consider changing the cover to reflect the overall seriousness of the story, and beauty of the characters and plot. This novel was really good.

Ménage a difference

This is definitely not your usual ménage story. Time was taken to develop the characters of all three people so that their actions were relatable. They didn’t easily fall into the relationship and Mae had agency. I hope I haven’t given too much away but I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved the ending especially as it brought it into real time, so to speak.

Coveted is a phenomenal romance story with a twist. I cried and laughed out loud through quite a bit of the story. The characters are believable, and the storyline hits a bit close to what could be real. I love that this is a story that transcends all kinds of cultural boundaries, including race. The characters in this story genuinely care for one another, and in the end, that is all that matters. Saying too much more will give away the story, but I can say that this is a page-turner and one that warms the heart. Read it with an open mind and, better yet, an open heart.

Together We Stand in Love ❤️

The historical background weaved Into the lives of two men and a woman was phenomenal. Mae, a very reclusive introvert, meets her soulmate in Rad Kilmore, but also in his outgoing, covetous, competitive friend/brother, Bose McCallum. Their unconventional marriage forges a change in the law in Utah regarding polygamy in 2017.
