I could not relate to the plot or characters and what about that Scottish the accent?? Ugh!

Fiction regardless and being a Scot no Scottish billionaire living in US would say "aye" for yes and to call the female character "Hen" that was eye rolling and totally unbelievable. My Scottish brain decided to call it quits at that point.

Too plausible and unrealistic and the FC - well lets not go there.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that couldn't finish this book. It was just utterly ridiculous to me. After all the information that Barrett receives regarding all these illegal dealings, she still stays with him because.....sexual chemistry? Really!?! You've known the guy a month at most and you're willing to marry him so you won't have to testify against him or deal with the FBI? I basically stopped there because no decent person would go for that. Especially since we are given the sense that before Barrett met what's his name, she was a quiet history teacher or some such. Really? She can go from that to jumping in line with mobsters with no second thoughts. Give me a break. No thank you. Don't waste your time with this one, there are much better things to read.

Selling Sister to Pay Off Bothers Debit!!

I absolutely loved reading SINS: The Complete Series! It’s all about Barrett Schaefer a young women who is a sixteenth century Historian and is being used as collateral to pay her brother Andrews gambling debit to Flynn Campbell. Flynn Campbell is a Scottish Billionaire who is wealthy & charming and is a luxury Hotel Mogul amount other things. He’s also the leader of the SINS effectively the Scottish Mob & a key player of power NYC. Andrew racked up a $300k gamboling debit at The Rex’s casino. in trade to cancel said debit Barrett is given to Flynn. Flynn arranges with Barrett to go undercover in his Burlesque Lounge to find the person selling drugs. The author wrote a series about the different powerful families who run NYC in particular the SINS Leader Flynn Campbell who is the Scottish Mob. Read all about the alliance that Flynn & Barrett have as they fall in love and tackle the very real problems the Scottish Mob has not only in NYC, but in Scotland and in London. The first three books revolve all around this extended family and there interactions with other Mob family’s from around the globe that are strategically integrated Into NYC. The fourth book is called Ruthless and it’s about Igor Dolinsky the head of The Russian Mob in NYC. He tangled with Flynn & Barrett and he drugged her and held her prisoner in Upstate NY for nine months in book one. Igor is the son of Olaf Dolinsky, him and my mother brought me to NYC from Russia. The only way to be in the mob is to be born in it, the only way out is death. Is about Igor in his twenties when he is being groomed by his father to take over. He has been a foot soldier since he was twelve years old, but he’s in his late twenties and is time for him to be the head, and for his father to step aside. His two trusted body guards are Sasha Petrovich his BFF from grade school & future Russian mob boss and Vlad a Ukrainian. The author wrote a story about the struggles one has when they are in the mob for life. This is the story about Igor and how he became head of the Russian mob, amongst heartache and hatred! I have never been so captivated by a story such as this. Right from the first page in book one it grips you until the very last page in the fourth book. You will fall in love with Flynn and his Scottish brogue, and his fierce loyalty to his family and his relationship with Barrett. There is something for everybody in this book set. It has Intrigue, mystery’s, suspense, romance, drugs and murder! And you will not want to put it down!! I was not able to put it down, the story is reverting and is constantly changing and you as the reader do not want to miss anything! It’s a highly charged book set, and the author Emma Slate wrote an incredible book set!! I never read anything by her before this series, but you better believe I want to read another book set just like this one by her!!

Hmmm

Sins of a King
4 stars

While I wasn’t too sure how I’d feel about this, I though umm ya I’m not going to get my knickers in a twist because of the evil sinful people and what they do, it doesn’t get deep n down and real life, it’s a story! A story that I got caught up in and want to read more of! The jaw dropping, oh no she better don’t! and knee slapping WTF EVER moments shall hopefully continue in the next book.

Birth of a Queen
3.5 stars
I’m still completely on the fence about this series. It sucks you in ti the suspense, but there’s a disconnect somewhere that I can’t put my finger on but at the same time I still want more.

Rise of a Dynasty
4 stars
This book has changed my view on the series. It’s all coming together, while their are still some holes I’d like filled, the action was non stop and kept me flipping pages wanting more. I feel like there’s some plot holes with the major characters, breadcrumbs of what they’ve been through to make the story move but not enough to fill it up without a million question. Hopefully the next book will fill in some of that

Dawn of an Empire
3 stars.
I’m so confused. This is so backwards. This is what I was taking about in my other reviews. Missing holes about characters well in my opinion this should have been before the ignore and Barrett because it makes that book make way more sense reading this. I think I have to stop this series now. This is frustrating no matter how well it’s written. I just can’t.

DNF @ 14% (Chapter 10 of Part ll)

Hm this was disappointing for me. It sounded soooo good! BUT it just didn't deliver. Everything was written so concisely. There wasn't much feeling in the writing whether those be dialogue or descriptions. I honestly felt nothing between the two MCs Barrett and Flynn. No chemistry, nada! All forced and setup for us to believe it's there. It wasn't. It was told in the h Barrett's POV only as well which was a big NO from me.

A lot went down in what little I read and I just couldn't care or get into it. Everything was just there. Words. No feeling or emotions. I felt nothing. Even when they finally do the dirty it was quick paced and lacked any depth with details so I didn't feel any of the emotional pull or sexual tension that should've been there with how long they "waited" until it went down.

Add in the fact Flynn was very MEH. Not alpha at all, and I didn't buy his being into dark underground stuff when he seemed so nice and respectful.

Big MEH vibe with this one. Moving on.

Sins of the Rex Box Set

This is a huge book, the story covers years. I started reading the Ember series, then realised I needed to read this first. It is an excellent book. Definitely an adult book as the sex and violence can be quite graphic. Having said that the main characters Flynn and Barrett fall deeply in love. Yes there is a lot of violence, but it's usually begun by someone else. The main thing is seeing this main couple evolve, they start as strangers then become a team, each knowing how the other thinks. It's a book once started that's hard to put down. Emma Slate is quite new to me, but after reading this, I'll be looking for more, after the Embers series of course. It is a long book, reading it via the box set is best as it is continuous. It dosn't feel long because it's so good you want to know what the end will be but don't want it to finish. I would highly recommend it

Hot damn

I binge read this book set all weekend. I thought it would be a quick read with fluff books added on the end. I thought at the end of book 1, that was the end. I was mistaken. The 3 books did not end until a loooong 88%. The story of Barrett and Flynn is a modern day crime lord romance. Where the men are ruthless and the women are tougher. This international true crime romance drama was chock full of heat, love... so, so much love, loss, mystery, mistrust, illegal activities and underestimated, tough as nails women, and the crime lords that love them. I love Flynn and the Buchanan boys. But Sasha.... I swoon over Sasha. I’ve never read anything from this author before, but damn is she an amazing writer! Get this box set - you won’t be disappointed!

Meh

Man, I wanted to love this series but just too many things bothered me.
First off, I really enjoyed the first book. When Barrett and Flynn first meet and it's instant love. They begin to dance around each other and it's cute. I like that storytelling. But then all the dirty laundry gets aired. And just situation after situation. I couldn't keep up. And come on with everyone wanting Barrett, it was a little ridiculous.
I just think that this series could have wrapped up sooner than have it go to three books. I was at the point that I wanted to finish just to be done with it. I was entertained but I was also not fully paying attention towards the end.

#SINS

Well, this is the first series I’ve read by this author.
The book took me some time to read, partly due to life getting in the way and then because the emotional upheavals were just too much at times.
This book has many twists and turns and areas where I was like “wtf?!” And others where i was numbed from all the trauma.
Overall I enjoyed it and though I might not have agreed with some activities the story was compelling enough for me to want to finish it.
I look forward to reading more from this author, particularly Sasha’s story.
4/5 for me (Flynn gave it an extra point) “Aye, lass”

Where do I begin!?

Flynn and Barrett, I can’t even begin to explain their love and their story is so intense. I love how she’s not a delicate character and how they understand each other. There’s no beating around the bush. There’s trust and mistrust lies and it’s just an all around intriguing series. It started off good as a simple but interesting story and then it evolved in to this amazing actions packed suspenseful and twisted plot and I loved every second of it. You’re in for a crazy ride.

Dear lord barrett and flynn

Holy hotness on a stick. Where to begining?! Asked to help find someone smuggling drugs into his club Flynn ends up falling for Barrett. And she is a strong amazing woman who is the best of a female character. She doesn't take any bull and she is fierce. All the books with them are amazing. I didnt really want to read the last because well.i kinda.love hate Igor but I digress.
Barrett and Flynn their story was thrilling and sexy and you cant help but read every one

Could not put it down

How do you change when you meet someone? What would you do for family and loved ones? Holy goodness are those two questions developed and played with in this box set. Loved each book on its own and as a whole. Great characters, fascinating storyline, steamy scenes and emotional roller coaster moments...Sasha’s story about broke my heart at one time. Loved it!

SINS of the Rex by Emma Slate is phenomenal! This was my first time reading Emma Slates writing and I was completely hooked.

The SINS box set is filled with suspense, action, intrigue, lust, betrayal, love, and loyalty.

Slate sure knows how to draw you into her character. I loved not only Barrett and Flynn, but also the whole cast of supporting characters and can not wait for more!

Excellent series. Very engaging.

I found this series engaging to the end. I love the dynamic between Flynn and Barrett, and am excited to read Sascha's story in Ember and on. Igor's story at the end had me in tears. Though a rather minor lead in the books, Igor always had my interest. Ash and Duncan would be another series I would be interested in reading. Thank you for an alternative series that did not disappoint.

Really good

There is just something about this story that draws you in and twist you up and makes you want more. Maybe the darkness and how fearless Barret becomes. She is the ultimate mama bear, wife and friend. Flynn always has something going on, building a new hotel or keeping secrets he really needs to relax and take a vacation away from everything after reading these books, Barret and Flynn need a tropical vacation adventure.

What can I say. Gotta love Flynn and Barrett.

I got this series of books from noting it on facebook. I finally got it and I loved this couple. I have to admit I did not read the fourth book because I wasn't that interested in Igor and it seems like I have been reading this series forever. You will get so many ups and downs in this series and so aggravated at times with them. I hope to get Sasha's book soon. Interview at the end was cute.

meh. I just couldn't take the doormat female anymore. At first she had just enough backbone to make her unbalanced 'compromises' ok. But it just continued to get more and more unbalanced. She would express her need to for some actual human respect and consideration and he's all 'take it or leave it woman' and she takes it over and over. Couldn't even finish the first book because its so long and there was no sign this behavior would end.

Just awesome

This book series sucked me in right from the beginning. Then there are the twists and turns, you cannot predict what’s going to happen next. Then the moments you have to pause and process. Especially book 4, the way she humanizes each of her characters, makes you think about what you would do, who you would become in that moment, in that scenario, in that life.

You won’t regret reading the series!!!

Loved it ❤️

There is a lot of give and take, push and pull in this book. There is instant attraction but they take time to get to know each other. The story has angst and love. There is betrayal and friendships and family bonds. There is the bad guys and good guys and good guys that are also bad. I stayed up not wanting to put the book down it is thoroughly entertaining and I look forward to more from this series.

I cannot tell you how much I LOVE this series - in fact - this author! I have read this series 3 times now and would happily read again! I forget all the twists and turns in the story and am on the edge of my seat. The characters are well developed. I am so glad that I found this series. Emma Slate is a pen name - I also highly recommend checking out her other books - The Sibby Series by Samantha Garman - totally different but utterly hilarious!

Emma Slate has created a world you can get lost in. The characters are fantastic! The SINS series, EMBER series, and now Peasants & Kings and Blue Angels (Wreck & Ruin) series are all wonderful. I love how she connects all the series together. By the way, if you like something a little more fun, check out the SIBBY series she writes under the pen name Samantha Garman - you won't regret it! Can't wait for more from this author!

Long read but worth it.

I loved this series, you develop a love hate relationship for pretty much every character. You feel bad for the bad guys, you despise the choices the good guys make. And ultimately you want what happens to happen but can't help but wonder what the story would be if the other choices were made.

The first two books in the series were very exciting and fun. There was always something fun happening at every corner. By the third book I was kind of over the fact that something was always happening! Perhaps by rating would be different if I rated them all separately but I found it to be too much by the end

Never Underestimate a woman

Barrett has been used to pay her brother's gambling debt to a very POWERFUL man. Flynn is is the head of SINS he is ruthless, powerful and will do anything to save his empire including using Barrett. The one thing Flynn did not count on was that not only is Barrett beautiful she is smart and as tough as he is.

This was a good series. I will admit that Barrett got to be annoying through a lot of the books in my opinion, and I find it hard to believe a top Scottish Mob boss would allow this woman who had nothing other than knowledge of Scottish history under her belt to help him mastermind his rule. At any rate, I didn't lose interest and the supporting cast's situations were also interesting.

Loved this series. I couldn't put it down!!!!! Barrett was amazing, as were Flynn, Sasha, Duncan, Ash and Ramsey. The intrigue and plot twists threw me everytime. Some books you can figure out what is going to happen or who's behind something, but not in these. Wow! Can't wait to read the Ember Series next!

My heart hurts!

This series is awesome! Kept me up a number of nights. These stories draw you in. Plenty of heartbreak - skillfully laid out for consumption, dissection and introspection. You will LOVE the characters - you will HATE when your new friends get hurt and be happy when the "bad guys" get their due!
Thank you for your time, talent and the STORIES!!

What can I say, I loved reading this series. I can not get enough of this series. Barrett's relationship with Flynn is on fire. And I love how I feel like I'm part of the family. Emma Slate has a way of pulling you into their stories, you feel like its your family and all you want to do is protect them. I would like to read more of her books.
