Cut off from government support, the Project has gone private as the Harker Group, specializing in high order security. Business has been slow, but when a wealthy British explorer wants to hire her services, Director Elizabeth Harker isn't sure she wants the job.
Sir Jeffrey Livingston has an ancient map leading to the lost city of Paititi, where a legendary treasure of gold was hidden during the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire. The ruins of the city are somewhere deep in the unexplored Amazon jungle. Livingston is mounting an expedition to go after the gold. He wants the Project team to provide security. Simple enough, except word of the map and expedition has leaked. Communist rebels want to get their hands on the gold and use it to fan the flames of revolution. That can't be allowed to happen. Harker agrees to take Livingston on as a client. The team heads to Peru and sets off into the Amazon. Soon they are far from civilization, where there's no backup if something goes wrong. Enemies are tracking them. There's a traitor in their midst. The deadly creatures of the rain forest are everywhere, death only a careless step away. Even if they manage to find the lost city, they'll need all their skills to get out alive.
The Project team has been in some tough spots before, but nothing has prepared them for this...
I like Barbados rum, old, fast motorcycles, playing guitar and books by authors like Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, Alex Berenson, Craig Johnson and Lee Child. I write action/adventure thrillers. WHITE JADE is the first in a series featuring the PROJECT, a small, elite counter-terrorism unit. There are currently 23 books in the series. href="http://www.goodreads.com">ale...
“City of Gold” by Alex Lukeman is the 22nd entry in his popular "Project" Series. I have enjoyed all the Project Books. As with many action type books, you simply must suspend credibility a little, and just enjoy the story. If you are looking for a new action series to try, I would certainly recommend Lukeman's series. However, I strongly suggest that you begin with the first book so you can appreciate the character development more.
For many centuries, tales of lost treasures or a City of Gold have been passed down from generation to generation. From the time of the Conquistadors to present time, numerous Fortune Hunters have tried to find the lost Inca city of Paitita, and failed. [A conquistador was the name given to the Fifteenth-to-Seventeenth century Spanish and Portuguese soldiers who conquered much of the world, most famously the Central and Southern Americas.] This is where the “City of Gold” opens as a wealthy British explorer wants to hire her team’s services for “protection” in this search. And thus, begins what should have been a harmless job into the jungles of Peru.
Non-stop action and many twists and turns will keep one reading well past midnight. Just when the Project Team seems to be getting the upper hand, another wrinkle occurs. Lukeman is a good story teller and his plots, as with many “action” books, can get farfetched. Regardless, the plots are well-crafted and his characters are dynamic. Lukeman shows strong research, which certainly gives good historical background; in this case, Pre-Columbian knowledge. I "like" the characters and care about them. This is what makes “The Project Series” better than the run-of-the-mill high-concept thrillers: the well-drawn and engaging characters – especially Nick Carter and Selena. The story’s plot pulls you in, and keeps you going until the end. I have enjoyably read all 22 of the books in this series and highly recommend the series and this author.
5*****Stars Novel : City of Gold Series: The Project Series #22 Author: Alex Lukeman Publisher: Author Pages: 224 Release date : Sept 16th 2021
I have Read and Reviewed every book of this series! I can’t believe this is number 22 Alex and I’ve been addicted since 2012! The Project group was originally under the auspices of The President of the U.S. Funded and hidden by President Rice who had been in office for 2 terms, This group was coveted as well as hated, known all over the world as untouchable. It has been difficult for the group with the change in the White House as the new president has taken office. The group would have been disbanded if not for a few who know how needed they are. Elizabeth has taken the group private to The Harker Group and is contacted by a Sir Jeffrey Livingston, a wealthy British Explorer. Calling the group together to discuss a map this gentlemen has, needing them to go to the lost city of Paititi in the Amazon jungle…All he needs is the security for the trip. Again Mr Lukeman has done his home work, as we trek air, river and land to get to this hidden city. We have done this before with the group, but the jungle always hides untold mysteries that you can never plan on; this story is no different. I think the spiders almost did me in, and the escape was filled with many perils considering they were being followed, which we knew and they didn’t. Again Alex as I’ve always said….you write them I will follow!!!!
All of our friends are back and providing security for a uptight guy (Sir Jeffery) trying to find lost gold in the Peruvian rain forest. But first they spike the interest of the local terrorist group and what was supposed to be a babysitting job turns into a fight like they have not had before.
This is another wonderful book by Alex Lukeman and I hope he keeps putting out a new project book every now and again. This book is full of action and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you get audios this one, narrated by Jack de Golia, is one not to be missed as his voices have brought these characters to life and tosses you right into the story with Nick and the gang. Mr. de Golia makes you feel a part of the group, and part of their family, even Burps.
(3.5) I was surprised and happy to see another Project book by Alex Lukeman. I thought the last one (End Game) WAS the last one. I liked this one as I have liked the whole series. It went as expected, after reading the first 21 books! ;-) It's a great series and I've enjoyed every one. Nice to see the whole gang one more time.
I was happy to see he has a new series starting which looks promising. First entry is "The Russian Woman". It sounds interesting. Looking forward to reading it!
Harker Group, aka Project Team, are hired as security for an expedition in Peru to find and verify the existence of the City of Gold. During their journey, they need to watch out for rebels, poisonous snakes and insects (scorpions and spiders), pirates, and indigenous people, otherwise it should be simple. Alex Lukeman makes this story exciting and unpredictable for the reader throughout with surprises. This book was unputdownable for me. If you like thrilling adventures, this book is for you. Happy reading! 😊
Lost treasures of gold. The Spaniards and numerous Fortune hunters have tried to find the lost Inca city of Paitita, and failed .The covert team called the project once protected by the President has now gone private. The current administration has a different agenda involving the nation's security. Sound familiar? What follows is an action packed roller coaster thriller, typical of this author. Enjoyed immensely!!
But aren’t all the Project’s adventures? There were some proofreading mistakes. I would have liked a better map of the area. I think Selena is right; time to hang it up while they still can.
Once again Alex has written a book that I just can't put down. Found myself reading for longer periods then I had planned. Fast pace great read with enough true history weaved into story
Fast moving and held my interest due to historical facts that were incorporated into the story line. Pre-Columbian historical knowledge was dynamic in keeping the mystic alive as the novel progressed. Respectfully; Bob Greene
I love Alex Lukeman’s books. The characters are so real, and the story line is always exciting. Don’t start it if you want to sleep. Waiting for the next one!
Another great read full of action. Always leaves you wanting more, the only down side is that there is feeling of things being wound up, and it's a series I want to go on a whole lot longer.
