Wow! This book kind of reminds me of an even greater rescue, when Jesus died to rescue all of us. When God picks a leader, the person might not always feel qualified, but He does the qualifying. This team came across many challenges, but they went through them all together, with God's help and strength. Very well done!
Rescue a bad guy from hell they said. It'll be fun they said!
Ok nothing goes as Evie, Callie, Caleb, & Eli expected! They practiced all kinds of defensive maneuvers. Spent months training. They added Eli & a guy named Mason. Eli can move earth & Mason fire. Evie keeps having "Visions" but are they really because they can interact with her? Right before the mission they are introduced to Josie who is James's half sister. He has no idea she exists. And then there is the mysterious Justice. He has power over electricity. Josie has power over the weather. Hell is interesting. Lots of lower level demons serving the higher ones as slaves. Evie does a lot of recovering from the cave & last battle. Especially since she has PTSD. Caleb learns more about himself. The plan quickly goes south with people getting hurt & Caleb entertaining the dark side. To top it off Evie gets hurt.
This was an action-packed YA Fantasy with plenty of peril, romance, and suspense. The stakes couldn't be higher for Evie and her friends, which propelled me forward every page. The book has powerful messages about the dangers and torment of hell and reminds the reader that there is no force more powerful than God and Jesus. Burrows crafts a creative world with interesting magic and power and plenty of exciting action sequences. The descriptions of the demons and creatures of hell will leave you with chills. The romance between Caleb and Evie will have you swooning! Definitely recommend this series for believers who want an intense fantasy read centered on faith.
