Hades Redemption #1

Hidden From Hades

Rate this book
Hades is coming for me. But that doesn’t mean he can have me...

He says he knows me. Who I am. What I am.

I’m pretty sure my boss Hayden is on some sort of weird power trip. He’s sexy as hell, but has an arrogance that spells danger. I’m only serving drinks in his seedy strip club until I can afford my own flower shop. I just have to avoid the inexplicable pull between us in the meantime.

Then he claims I’m Persephone and he’s Hades, the God of the Underworld. He says I was hidden from him after a curse was put on him, and now he’s here to awaken my spirit so he can take me back to the underworld. That his position in the underworld depends on it.

Either he’s crazy... or I’m a mythical goddess. A queen of the underworld. His Queen.

Except if I was his Queen, he needs to do more than seduce me. I’d want him to love me. To Hell and back. No matter how strong the attraction is that burns between us, it’s obvious someone like him isn’t capable of love.

And there’s no way I’m going back to the underworld without a fight...

Hidden From Hades (formerly known as The Cursed God) is a 66k word book, it is the first book in a trilogy, and ends on a cliffhanger. It's recommended for an 18+ audience.

Ooof. I made it to chapter 2. Loins should never be used in a "sexy" way. Just no.
I'm not big into mythology, but even I can tell this premise doesn't work. Maybe it would have worked better if she made them imaginary gods with no backstory, and who were born in the more recent past or in a different universe, but it was cringe (in the same way soap operas are... Just 'too much')... The verbiage, the way the characters behaved... If this was a parody it would work, but it's not written as a parody, so it just comes across as weird fan fiction. If you like soap operas, and are fine with imaging she's made up the names of Zeus, Hades, etc., and they have no backstory - you'll probably like this.

Since I've started the second part (as it's already out although I thought it will be published in the middle of September like hello???), I feel like I need to share my thoughts on the first part, to tell you my origin story, so to speak.

The Cursed God is that modern AU y'all read in the comfort of your bed after a PG period drama you watched with your parents and unexpectedly started shipping the main characters and feel like they deserve more spice than that one final kiss at the very end.

I've been a fan of Hades and Persephone myth since I was literally seven, so I grab every single retelling I see out there. Are my faves problematic? Yes, they are. Do I care? No, I don't, but I have a pretty strong feeling no Lord of the Underworld will be coming for my ass any time soon, and since an imaginary world is not the real one, I feel safe. So, this year I've read a bunch of hyped Hades and Persephone retellings, and none of them, literally not a single one appealed to me. A Touch of Darkness was so blunt to my taste, and Persephone was not even naive, but straight out stupid, that I couldn't finish it. The same goes for A Deal with the Elf King that was pitched to me as a Hades and Persephone retelling, but it was so dragging and unexciting that even Natasha Romanov on the cover couldn't get me to keep going, so I dnf'd that one as well. Then came Neon Gods, and it was mostly a me-thing, but I need some feelings in my smut, and also at least some slow-burn. There wasn't any, besides there was nothing about the main characters that had anything to do with the original myth. But actually, I'll let A Court of Mist and Fury fall into this category as well since it is kind of a retelling as well, but overall the trilogy was a disappointment, so again, not much luck there as well.

And then comes this Kindle Unlimited romance that I've heard literally no-one talk about, and it makes me feel things??? The more you learn...

The story is not an actual retelling, but the continuation of the original myth. Hades and Persephone have been married for some time, and Hades is not treating Persephone with due respect, so he is punished for his neglect and his very scandalous offer. Persephone is made into a mortal girl with no memory of her divine origin and sent to Earth. Hades is supposed to find her and make her fall in love with him, and he has to hurry as his own powers are depleting, and also the Underworld is left unsupervised, and we all know that it never ends well.

But the actual task is a little bit different. Not only Hades has to charm Persephone all over again, but he also needs to deal with his own issues, and I was so happy to see Hades called out like that because it's high time. We have dual perspectives, and honestly, I enjoyed them a lot. The fact that Hades has no idea what being human means made me giggle more than I can admit, but I genuinely enjoyed those small details. Yes, there were a couple of strange episodes (like the one where Persephone started washing her friend's hair in the kitchen sink while there was a perfectly good bathroom in literally the next room, I'm still not over the scene what the actual hell), and the writing was just Good, with nothing particularly special about it. But did I have a good time? Absolutely. I was truly interested in the story, I was rooting for Hades and hoping he would change for the better. I appreciated Persephone's character. Finally! Just a simple gal who enjoys gardening. She is not dumb, nor she is fierce, she is the closest thing I've seen to the original myth in the modern setting. She is kinda brave, but she is also very gentle and calm, so I liked her a lot.

Overall, I can't wait to start the second book! It is a fun read, the one that helps you ease your mind from the everyday grind, and that's exactly what I need right now. I would recommend you check out this book as it is a decent retelling, and you might enjoy it, especially if you, like me, have no luck with the popular retellings.

I loved this one. It was a really different take on Hades and Persephone.
And I just loved every minute of this book.
Hades brothers are assholes and what was done to Persephone was a shitey thing for her parents to do to her.
Now I'm going to sleep and dream about Greek mythology. I can't wait for the morning to come so I can read the next book.

This book is a Hades/Persephone retelling where Hades turned out to be a crap husband (shocking, right?), and in an effort to stick it to him, Demeter and Zeus take Persephone away from him, force Hades to search for her, then, when he finds her, he has to fall in love with her (and vice versa)...as a human. And for added hijinks, Persephone has been given a new identity (like supernatural WITSEC) and has no idea she's the Goddess of Spring. It's a super cool concept, and I was really enjoying reading how Hades dealing with being human and learning how to feel stuff , and then BAM--cliffhanger. This book ends on a horrific cliffhanger that cost it a full star in my review. And book 2 doesn't come out until September! Gah! I was so annoyed. I HATE it when romances end on a cliffhanger and I don't at least get a heads-up about it from the author at the end of the blurb. Boo!!!!!

I couldn't get past the prologue, I mean, Hades was an absolute asshole and if I were Persephone I wouldn't give him a second chance.

A nice read.
I liked the arc of the characters. Hades and Persephone really grew in the span of the book.
I would have loved more of a plot. But I think we'll have it in the second book.
All in all an enjoyable read and I will definitely read the next one.

This was. . . not what I expected.

So far this year, I seem to have one fantastic book, then a disappointing one. I really hope that it doesn't become a loop and a representation of my 2022 reading year.

I hate to say it, but this is between a 2.5 star and a 3 star for me, which is a complete shame; Hidden from Hades had so many aspects that made it a book I could really enjoy, such as:

• Reincarnation - technically it's amnesia, but it falls under that trope
• Memories coming through dreams; previous life memories of like 'soulmates' is one of my favourite tropes,
• A Hades and Persephone retelling.

But I was just disappointed; from the summary, I thought that Persephone had been taken from Hades because someone was against them, like Zeus, and it would be a story of the two of them falling in love again and two lovers coming back together. However, from the beginning, we learn that Hades was absolutely awful to Persephone, he treated her so poorly and personally, I think that Persephone would have been better staying off without all of the Gods. There were so many red flags, it took so long for Hades to get a reality check, and I just couldn't feel a connection to him or sympathise with him at all. He deserved what happened to him, and he didn't deserve Persephone back.

You can see some more of my rantings on my highlights and notes: I am disappointed, Hades and Persephone retellings are my favourite, and I wish that my first review of the year on them could have been a positive one. I did notice some similarities to the first few episodes of the show Lucifer at the beginning, too, with the name Chloe itself, her appearance and I actually did not give Lucifer's Bride because I heard that it was basically a rewrite of Lucifer, so I think it's safe to say that the author is definitely a fan of the show!

If you are a fan of a darker, much harsher representations of Hades and you're willing to take on the the series, as I do feel like it is something that will take the span of the series, then I would recommend giving it a go! The way he treated Persephone that lead to the events of the books just was something I wasn't a fan of and it made it not for me, but others may prefer that.

I’ve always found Greek mythology interesting but don’t have a lot of experience reading tales inspired by it. Hades and Persephone is probably one of the most notable tales love stories get built around these days.

In this version, Hades is cold and unfeeling. He viewed Persephone as a conquest and once he had achieved his goal, he grew bored of her and rarely paid her any attention.

After centuries of Persephone pestering him during her time in the underworld he decided he’d give her something else to focus her attention on, a baby. Persephone wanted no part of that so she refused. He wouldn’t let her leave til she agreed so she grew weak and sickly trapped in the underworld. So Zeus and Demeter implored the fated to step in and take Persephone away and punish Hades. His powers steadily weaken and she is hidden. The only chance he has at regaining his power is find her and fall in love with her.

What worked for me: This was an entertaining read. I like the authors style. I actually really enjoyed the notion of Hades needing to taken down a peg or two and make amends for his treatment of Persephone.

He searches for 10 years before finding her in Chloe, a human girl. Hayden still struggled to think as a human through the entire book. He viewed Chloe as a means to end, getting his power back. I loved Chloe’s strength and unwillingness to accept being an afterthought or trophy.

What didn’t work for me but might for you: this is an extreme slow burn. I mean like 96% before any spice. Honestly, it works for this story and if slow burns are your thing you’ll love this. The reason I tend to avoid slow burns is that the tension necessary to keep me reading usually isn’t there. I’ve only read a few that had that perfect mix of tension and this is one of them but it still isn’t something I seek out in books even when it’s well done. To each their own.

Second chances

It's a pretty good interpretation of the Hades and Persephone myth. I loved the first part and how raw and painful it was, I especially loved how Persephone remakes herself and forces Hades to see her for the gem she really is. However, it's not a great narrative on Hades' side. He was forced to reevaluate himself and his actions, and he only kind of came around to being what she wanted of him. What I got from Hades' side, was basically, "how can I keep her happy so I can have everything I want..." Which is the same issue from the beginning, just now with slightly different intentions. I would also like to point out how rushed and crappy that ending was. The sneak peak into the next book doesn't seem promising either. So while Wilson's writing style is beautiful, flawless, and easy to devour, unfortunately, I can poke a ton of holes in this story. I would have liked a bit more of a struggle for the both of them. They had one fight? Then kissed and made up? He put her through hell (pun intended) and she just forgives him so easily? He called her "clingy" and "needy" because she wanted a relationship with him? Where is the righteous indignation from her? And honestly, we never really got to see a true turn-around from him. Like, "oh she left me on read for two days. This is what she felt like when I ignored her for centuries I guess." Haha. "Oh, I'm horny but she doesn't want me, this must be how she felt..." Etc. Etc. Greek mythology revels in vengeance, so where is it in this narrative? Three out of five stars to The Cursed God.

As I’m sure you can all tell if you’ve followed me for the past few months, I’ve got an odd obsession with Greek mythology (especially spicy retellings). This was definitely all of that! I picked this up on my kindle app on a whim because I needed an easy read. Little did I know I would become so utterly obsessed with this.

Okay, Hades’ character development. Let’s talk about it. I’m in love with the man. I don’t care if he’s evil. I loved him in this, I felt that he walked that line between stupid generic male and actually seeing himself for what he was justttt right. I really loved seeing his inner character growth and reading his POV alongside Persephone’s.

I don’t know why I hate Persephone so much in all of these retellings, I just want her to toughen up a bit and stop being such a cry baby about everything. I think this definitely attempted to change that narrative of “weak female Persephone” and I liked that Persephone was forcing him to change as opposed to just falling madly in love because he was hot?

I think what brought this down to a 3⭐️ for me was that it was in parts a little repetitive and some of the spicy aspects were again, repetitive and a little bland. I could have definitely done with upping the ante in places but equally it was a very easy read and I felt that it was enjoyable.

If you like some easy filler reads with a decent plot, great character development and a sprinkling of spice then I would definitely give this a go if you have the time.

I'm a slut for stories surrounding Greek Gods or Greek myths in any way. I'm fairly certain my reading history can confirm. I read this because it was there and I really enjoyed it. I liked the take on Hades and the aspect of him really having to work for it when it comes to Persephone. I thought the whole villain in the piece was something I didn't see coming. I expect that Pirithous will usually play a villainous role comparatively to Hades, but Prometheus was masterful. I'd just so glad it didn't turn into an Ares or Hades villain arc. I was admittedly worried that Hades would lose himself completely in the end leaving Persephone and their child to rule in his stead. Never been happier in my life to be wrong.

I also really loved Tammy. She holds a special place in my heart.

whoa

I love a good retelling of Persephone and Hades and this lady and gents did the trick. Hades has to become Human and start feeling things all because he refused to feel for his wife. The fates take Persephone and hide her from Hades so he has to search for her. She in turn becomes a human by the name of Chloe and doesn’t remember anything about her past life. Hades finally let’s himself feel and truly fall in love with Persephone. Her memories come flooding back and they finally know each other. Then bam someone is trying to over take the underworld. Persephone is once again wisked away but for a good reason they are protecting her from this piri. Going to get book two.

Persephone was in love with Hades when she married him centuries ago now she see’s that he wanted her because he could, Hades is very cold to her she has to make an appointment to see him but he always ignores her so she’s had enough she wants to go back to earth but Hades won’t let her leave until she has his baby which Persephone refuses so Hades has kept her locked in hell until she has his heir and leaves him alone. There is so much more going on in this fantastic story I loved it and I enjoyed it immensely and I highly recommend this book.

An unexpected take on Hades

From the first chapter, I was drawn into this version of Hades and Persephone. Hades is all business and has no time for his wife. The Fates take action and takes her away from him. Now he has to live as Hayden, a human and find his wife again. Chloe crosses his path and he can't stop wondering could she be his lost wife.

I really enjoyed this version of Hades and Persephone even though Hades/Hayden acted like a total douche canoe. He figures himself out and finds what he lost.

This is more of a sweet romance and love story than a steamy book. Although compared to the other Hades x Persephone book I have read, this one is amazing. The writing and world is rich. There are twists I did not expect which is saying a lot. The main character felt right. I loved Chloe. The tension though was really good.

I loved reading this modern-day Greek mythology love story! The way that Hades has to to learn to love Persephone (Chloe) and not take her for granted was a slow, beautiful love story. Of course, it can’t be as easy as that! There has to be an attempted coup, meddling gods and goddesses and a doozy of a cliffhanger at the end. I hope book 2 comes soon!

Amnesia, gods, and love? Oh boy....

I'm an avid fan of all things Greek mythology. Especially concerning my favorite myth of Hades and Persephone, and this story did not disappoint in the least.
It has everything you want in story, mystery, love, deception, betrayal... Gods! I could not put it down once I'd started it. Now I HAVE to get the next book just find out what happens next in the tale.
I promise this is something that you will love.

Wow is all I can say. Hades and Persephone are the ultimate lovers. The story is written so carefully that you hate Hades at first but then feel sorry for him because he finally realized that he almost lost his soulmate. Persephone is reborn into Chloe and has learned that she can't be like she was, she must be stronger and more independent. I cannot wait to read the next book.

📖 1/? Hades Redemption

This is without a doubt the best Persephone and Hades retelling I've read so far. I loved the concept of Hades not appreciating Persephone, of his loss of her then his vow to win her back. Then watching him fall in love with her as Chloe was incredible.

I cannot wait to read the next one.

Intriguing

I have never been one for mythology but I find this version of Hades and Persephone to be very, very good. It is a modern retelling, a bit of a fairytale, and a happy, but not, cliffie.
Hades is of course an alpha hole. I mean really there isn't much of a way around that but he does redeem himself, sort of. Persephone is lost in more ways than one. I mean wife of Hades is a big job and I imagine he is more than a handful.

Hayden & Chloe

While I liked this book, I wasn’t as compelled to devour it like the other recent stories of Persephone and Hades. So maybe 3 & 1/2 ⭐️’s. It was a bit wayward in getting to where it needed to go, and maybe that’s what made it hard to focus on in reading it. But, that said, the next book in the series could prove different because it seems more action oriented in keeping our couple together while battling the threat to the universe.

Cliffhanger!! good storyline

I found this book on a Facebook ad and decided to take the plunge and buy it and read it.
Read the book rather quickly. Flows nicely, good character development, strong story.
Overall, the book could use a editing round as a few things were missed.

One issue I did have with it, cliffhanger ending!! But glad book two is already out so, I'm not left hanging!

A good Hades and Persephone retelling

This was an interesting retelling. The characters were likable and the story was a page turner. I liked the somewhat slow burn romance as well.

Only things I didn't like was quite a few grammatical errors that kind of through off the sentence. Also, I thought there would be a bit more spice.

Other than that a good quick read and I will be reading the next one to find out what happens next.

Heartwarming

Hades loses Persephone and has to learn how to love her in order to get her back. The problem is she doesn't look like Persephone anymore and she's human. For ten years Hades looks until one day he meets a woman who intrigues him. The story u folds so easily. Its well written. I do love that making her human for a decade has made her stronger. She now realizes a lot of things she did wrong as well. The ending really got me though, so now I'm on to book 2.

Solid Hades/Persephone romance. Low on the spice- a very long slow burn. Basically the fates remove Persephone from Hades till he learns to love her. Hades does what he is supposed to as a mortal- although I feel like it should of been a bit harder for him. I did not know that this was a series though so was disappointed in the cliffhanger ending.

New take on a good story

I’m always drawn to the stories about hades and Persephone. But this one stood out, yes it’s a slow burn and ends in a cliff hanger but it’s got something more then the others

I won’t spoil this great read but. I will say that if you like actions having results both good and bad this is the book for you

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It is a romance, of course, but the banter between the two is fun and Hades trying to win over his lady love is amusing especially since he is clueless. It worked really well and the writing is good. A surprise ending made me want to read the sequel. Plus, how yummy is that cover?!?
