It's 1968, and Nezzie Fergerson, a lonely cocktail waitress at the Copper Pipe lounge, finds herself in a new city with a new job and lofty aspirations to find peace and contentment. Nezzie meets the man of her dreams, Mathias Whaley, a hard-working steelworker; even though he seems to be perfect, her feelings of self-doubt and pain hold her back. The young independent loner moves from the past and into Mathias' waiting arms, only to find that the road to love and healing is going to be a bumpy one. At the height of the Civil /rights Movement, things were tough for working-class residents of the Hill District in Pittsburgh, PA. Still, despite economic hardships and secrets from the past, Nezzie decides her heart has been captured by the alluring young steelworker with a tender spirit. Together, they find themselves wading through the turmoil, uncertainties, and pressures of racism. As ugly scars heal, and darkness is brought to the surface, Mathias sees that his "good thing" is closer than ever before.
Wading by Roe Braddy is a wonderful friends to romance novel. I love Nezzie and Matthias. This is book two following this lovely couple and I couldn’t put either one down. I love how the author's faith shines through with her characters. These two love birds overcome many trials and heart ache as they dance through their lives. If you’re looking for something sweet to get lost in, this book is for you. I highly recommend it and I hope you check this amazing author out. There is a sneak peek at the end of this book for a new character that I’m curious to follow.
A beautiful story for all. The authors ability to make you fall in love with her characters is one of my favorite parts about her writing. A must read. ❤️
This is the third work I’ve read from this author, and she still does not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. The characters were well-developed, and it was a joy to see the romance and passion between Mathias and Nezzie develop. Definitely a slow burn until the very end which only added to the dynamic of the couple’s relationship. The setting was well-written and added to the plot of the story. The author does a great job with imagery and details so much so that it felt like I was there at the Copper Pipe with the characters. I highly recommend.
