St. Mary's #2

Bad Boys Never Fall

Rate this book
Isaiah:

We were destined to burn from the second I laid eyes on her.

Within every dark corner of St. Mary’s Boarding School, watchful eyes tracked our every move. My guilty conscience whispered unjust excuses in my ear anytime we touched. Our futures suddenly became unclear, and the already blurred lines became blurrier.

A past we didn’t know existed turned our walls of self-preservation to rubble. The truth was suddenly revealed, and our plan went up in flames.

Gemma thought I was the one letting her fall into the ashes. But little did she know, I was there to watch her rise.

Bad Boys Never fall is book two in the St. Mary's Duet and concludes Gemma & Isaiah's story. Bad Boys Never Fall is intended for readers 18+ and deals with subjects that some may find triggering.

the ending had me tearing up y’all🥺🥺🥺

I know my rating makes me look picky (and I am), so let me explain.

the first 40%: - 1 star
my least favorite part of these duet. it was a lot of unnecessary back and forth between Gemma and Isaiah, that was for nothing. It was repetitive and the “I’m never doing that again while doing exactly that again 2 pages later” speech every chapter was super annoying. I would’ve 100% preferred seeing Isaiah actually planning and telling us what he was doing, cause the whole “big plan” he had sounded like he was lying out of his ass every time. I didn’t believe for a second he had things handled. We had his pov, SHOW US HIS POV.

the -0.3 stars situation: this was a bunch of little things that bothered me and stuck together in this minimal decimal.

* I didn’t feel the threat of the Rebels’ fathers because we never encountered them, so the conflict with them didn’t have a big impact on me.
* Even though the plot twists were good, it was too much at once. Like A LOT, this made them loose power and shocking value cause I couldn’t process everything, therefore lessening their impact.
* Isaiah was all talk, no action until the end once all the talk couldn’t continue as something unexpected happened. So again, his plan didn’t seemed real at all and the unexpected ended up being expected.

NOW, the rest of the book: it was good!!! I loved how all went down and I felt the desperation and dispare the characters felt. I was right there with them. I felt the threat that was Richard and I loved how the hidden characters were presented. I loved:

♡ the bonfire scene!!! That’s what I asked last book!

♡ the conflict in general was great, loved it
♡ how some things were left open, it made me super excited for the next books and it’s just great series writing
♡ the epilogue was just the best scene in the whole entire duet. It warmed my heart and made me absolutely fall in love with this found family. Loved loved loved it

honestly, it was rough at times, sad and painful at others, but sweet and romantic, too. Isaiah is fcking in love and Gemma is super strong and I love them both. The beginning of this was wasn’t great and I didn’t like it, but once they were together I was happy and in love with them.

I NEED the rest of the books. I NEED Bain, Cade, Shiner, Brantley, Mercedes, Sloan, Journey, Tobias and Tate to have a book. And I’ll be waiting ready to read them all when they come out 🤍✨

A whopping 4.5!

Yaaasss, Ms. Sylvis. That’s how you do it. I liked book one. I did, but this second installment? Blew it out of the park. I’m not going to give much away — or anything at all, since I personally wouldn’t have wanted to be spoiled when it came to the story myself, but let me tell you this: it made my favorite bully romances ever list.

Gemma, gurl, I salute you. Her strength, resilience, perseverance and just her kind nature is hard not to admire. Don’t get me wrong, she’s kind but she has a lot of fire in her. When her buttons are pushed, she does not hold back and I love that about her. And I’m not the only one. Damn, Isaiah was a SIMP for Gemma and I am Here. For. It. Lol. I love me some OTT protective, over-possessive jealous (but not in an asshole-ish way), totally gone for his woman, BADASS, take charge, dauntless, would do ANYTHING for his woman, hot, alpha man — and that’s what Isaiah Underwood is. Although to be honest, they’re back and forth “we can’t do this anymore” yet doing that exact same thing the next day dance in the beginning got just a bit frustrating, but then again it wouldn’t be pushing my angst factor button otherwise. And once they’re finally together, it was awesome. I’m just glad none of my usual pet peeves were an issue in this one. And that epilogue? That was so damn adorable and heartwarming, which was what I needed after all that went down — phew! I honestly couldn’t stop reading the second half of the book it was so good. I literally gave up my precious sleep just to finish it. There are still a lot of loose ends and questions that need answers, but they’re more for the secondary characters which makes sense since there will be more books in this series which will be about other couples. I can’t wait to find out what really happened between Cade and Journey and what will happen once she’s back at St. Mary’s. I can already feel the tension and angst brewing, especially with Tobias being added into the mix. But don’t worry, everything else with Isaiah and Gemma are tied nicely with a pretty red bow. So if I were you, and if you’re in the mood for a dark bully romance read, this one you guys. I finished it in one day — ONE DAY. And that’s surprising coming from me considering everything I need to get done each day. But like I said, I gave up precious sleep just to know what happens and I have zero regrets. Yes, I’m currently being fueled by coffee. But what a ride it was!

I’d rather not give much spoilers, but for the sake of my safety gang, see below for details.

Safety Gang:
-CW: violence, physical abuse, mental abuse, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, trauma, death and abuse of parent
-Safe sex: condoms were used, although one time they didn’t but the H pulled out. No mention of STD's though
-No virgins (H took h’s virginity in the first book), H used to just sleep around before h
-Slight OW drama (H touched and flirted with OW in front of everyone to push h away and make her hate him since he himself can’t stay away from her, but he never did anything other than touch the OW and have her in his lap in public just for show, and he was having a hard time even faking it)
-Mild OM drama (h allowed OM to touch her ass while dancing and went into an empty room to try and have sex with him during some claiming party to forget about the H after she saw him being cozy with the OW. They didn’t go beyond making out though because the H barged in on them to stop it)
-No sex scenes with other people
-No cheating
-HEA with epilogue

I. Am. Speechless!!

I just finished the conclusion of Gemma & Isaiah‘s story and I am stunned. Speechless. Overwhelmed. Emotional.
What a fantastic, amazing duet the author presented us.
Thrilling from book 1 page 1 until the last page in book 2. I was vividly living in St. Mary‘s while reading. It felt like I was a figure in the story standing next to everyone. Outstanding.

All the possibilities for future books. Yay! I see greatness in the future. That epilogue was so promising. Loved it.

This book had me talking to the wall. There were so many moments where I had to look at the imaginary camera in my room.

This could not have ended better. When starting this series I never thought it would be such a deep book with so much plot aside from the romance. The writing was also amazing, as someone who tends to cringe a lot, I can say this book was free from cringe on my part.

This is going directly to my favorites, I wish I could wipe my memory and read it again.

Wow wow wow!! This was an epic conclusion to the Gemma and Isaiah duet in the St Mary’s series.

This book picks up where we left off. Isaiah has decided his life is too dangerous and needs Gemma to hate him and leave him. We discover a lot of hidden secrets and the mystery surrounding Gemma’s family life with the Judge!!

This book series is now one of my top five reads. Isaiah is a book boyfriend you would regret not having. I adore SJ Sylvis’ writing. She writes with such precision and makes you fall in love with her characters all around.

I cried soo much in this book and in Good Girls Never Rise. SJ Sylvis really knows how to pull at your heartstrings. SJ really blew this one off the charts and seriously deserves all the freaking stars!! Actually, There’s not enough stars on the planet for how I’m feeling about this duet/St Mary’s series

I really hope we can get more insight into the other characters as the series is written down the road.

I really want to love this series- though like the first book, I found myself starting and stopping this one quite a bit, with the pacing lulling or prose overly descriptive, redundant, and/or meta in ways that pulled me from the story and that needed a lit bit more restraint. But, I am so invested in these characters, and SJ certainly can weave a compelling and complicated plot. I really loved the romance and the characters, the tension compelling and the characters likable. I'm intrigued by the story in the 3rd book, so I'll likely check it out.

This is the second book that I have read from this author and is the second in the St Mary's Duet and its a fantastic duet. This picks carries straight on from the first which you must read before starting this one.

Gemma and Isaiah are bound together no matter what and when they both realise that this is the case they try and fight it at first until things happen that are out of there control and that brings them closer together. She knows that in her world she cant trust no one and the amount of secrets around its no wonder she cant and no matter what happens and when she finds out all of the things that she thought were the truth and are all lies she doesn't know what's what, She needs to get away from her uncle who has been controlling her and Isaiah is the guy to help.
Isaiah is changing and its her that is doing it, he doesn't want what he thought he did in his life any more and he has a plan to help everyone out of it. The question is can these two pull it of before anyone finds out anything.

This book duet is amazing and this book gripped me right from the of. This book will hold your attention until the end and the way that this authors writing style is amazing. I loved reading about these characters and I loved how the author brought them to life and made you feel all the emotion through this book. This action, drama and the angst y romantic suspense will captivate you and I must say that these two books are some of the best that ive ever read. The way that this author has written this book made the story flow throughout and I really enjoyed reading it and I highly recommend them.

꧁GOOD GIRLS NEVER RISE꧂
r e v i e w

Tropes:
– dark (trauma)
– sad, artsy girl
– good girl x bad boy
– jealousy
– criminal underworld
– boarding school

Check out content warnings beforehand. There are very dark themes in this.

I think the beginning and the break are predictable, but I still enjoyed where the story takes off from there on. Especially because it shows how far Gemma has come since the first book. But not only her, Isaiah as well. I love that he is such a goner for Gemma, and I could punch him for the moves he pulls when he wants to keep her away. However, the twists are great. Overall it might be more “saw that coming“ than the first book, but I enjoyed it very much.

those BOOKS, the story, the characters!!!!

honestly it's been a while since i've binged read THAT fast a duology like this, i couldn't put it down and i literally was into the book the second i started the first chapter.
gemma my baby i'm just so in love with her and how strong she is, she was the "broken" girl as some people would describe her, but she is so much more than that, she was so brave, smart, and handled everything so maturely that made me so proud of her. and let's not start on her past or i'm going to cry, i just love her character so much
and isaiah, well... what can i say other than i LOVED him so much!!! i loved how protective he was of gemma and how their relationship evolved. i would say he will probably be my favorite boy character out of the series (i haven't read tobias' yet) bc his character was so so well written as well as his story.
their relationship was so so cute and even if it was a fast love kind of way, it was the PERFECT pace. i just loved those books so so much i know i will miss them so much.

and plot wise, this book was SOO good, very addicting and for someone that doesn't read too much dark romance, this type of series is so so good. she is probably my favorite dark romance author bc i also LOVED the english prep series by her!!! i just know that now i'm going to trust her when it comes to dark romances :))

I just finished this book and it was all I needed.
Perfect ending for this perfect story.
I usually wait for release day to post a review, but I decided to do it now 😊

When I got my ARC from the first book, and it end up with that cliffhanger, I couldn't wait for book 2. I know that I would finish it in one day (if my husband was not sick 🙄😅), but now I needed two 😅

I loved it. I love Isaiah and Gemma. I love there love story. Their passion. His possessives, and her innocence. But also. I love how strong Gemma became with him. It was so beautiful watching her become this powerful girl, with her, over the moon in love with her, boyfriend.

I know that we will get more of this world, and I can't wait for it. I can't wait for answers on my other questions. I just can't wait. This was such a beautiful read, thank you S.J. I loved every second of it.

✨P.s. I made a review and edit of the first book on my IG (@anjasbookworld) if you want to check it out.✨

I don't know how of if i'm going to be able to do this book justice in a review but i'm going to try my best.
This duet is exceptional and honestly one of the best universes I have ever read. Sammi truly knows how write griping plots and twist as well as lovable characters. I speak for everyone who's read her books when I say she writes the best possessive grumpy bad boys and Isaiah is no exception.
This book along with this universe and characters have consumed my mind. Its the perfect combination of bad boy corrupts the good girl, gossip girl esc drama set in a boarding school as well as dark twists and complicated characters.
I didn't expect to cry but omg Sammi got my tears falling, she once again has me in a chokehold with her work.
I can bet my left leg, lung and liver that you will not regret reading this duet.

Rating: 5/5 🌟

I will just let you know that my review is not gonna justify how good this book was, I am gonna try my best tho.

This book started out immediately from where it ends in the first book, duh. The feels this book gave, I am not a huge fan of dark romance, but if it is something like this, sign me the hell up😂

Gemma and Isaiah were just *chef's kiss* They were perfect for each other, but this ain't the cliche good girl/bad boy let me tell you that. She is snappy and he doesn't take a shit, ahh the perfect combo. They are their own version of a trope, I have no specific trope for them. I think we need a new trope for them😂

I couldn't stop reading once I started, but I love the second one more than the first, the first was just world building-ish but this book was the conclusion of it all. And god was it perfect. The way the secrets were unveiled, the way they fought for each other. Everything was just awesome. Sammi did it once again!!!!

Smut lovers, there is this one scene in here which will make you go crazy 😂
Ever since All the Little Truths, there is always one scene which makes me go crazy. They were so good that I didn't feel like skipping (which I do most of the time, if I find the smut repetitive)
Another adjective for Sammi: "Writes one memorable smut scene per book" 😂

I highly recommend this Dark Boarding School Romance Duet❤️✨✨

Bad Boys Never Fall is the sequel to Good Girls Never Rise and it picks up where the first book left off. Since there’s a MAJOR CLIFFHANGER in Good Girls Never Rise, I’m thankful for the author for publishing this one only two weeks after the first book was out. I mean, the St. Mary’s duet gives me life and being able to binge read these two in one sitting reenergizes me.

To begin with, we catch a glimpse of Gemma’s dark past in Good Girls Never Rise, and little do we know that it’s just the beginning of her nightmare in St. Mary’s Boarding School, where is supposed to be her safe haven. To my surprise, Isaiah, the bad boy from book one, turns out to be a huge softie and slightly overprotective Prince in Shining Armor—not that I’m complaining about him being super possessive of what’s his, a.k.a. Gemma, but seriously, who doesn’t fancy a hot and thoughtful book boyfriend?—and I’m glad to have witnessed this never before seen side of him in Bad Boys Never Fall.
”If you cry, I’ll wipe your tears. If you have nightmares, I’ll wake you up. If you break down right here in front of me, I will piece you back together.

Prior to reading this duet, I absolutely love and highly recommend the English Prep series, starting with All the Little Lies. The author has begun to write more dark romance since then, and I admit I underestimate her potential because I literally think that trilogy is the darkest among all of Sammi’s works. Apparently I’m proved wrong as Sammi has taken the St. Mary’s duet to a whole new level in the dark romance genre. *bowing down to the Queen of Dark Romance*
And neither of them would be telling me anything encouraging. One was dead, and the other had sold me to the devil.

Throughout the story, my heart aches so badly for Gemma and every torture she’s experienced. Needless to say, she deserves all the happiness in the messed up world she lives in, and I’m relieved that Isaiah is capable of offering her just that. It’s amazing how two broken souls can be pieced back together with the passing of time and the inseparable companionship. Gemma and Isaiah’s love story once again shows the readers how love conquers all the hardship and nothing can beat it down.

Lastly, I’d for sure HIGHLY RECOMMEND the St. Mary’s duet to everyone, especially those who’re looking for a gripping dark romance story taking place in a boarding school. Sammi’s writing style has evolved tremendously in the past few years, and as someone who’s blessed enough to have been a part of her writing journey, I can guarantee that her stories are a MUST-READ through and through! If you haven’t given her books a shot yet, please quit hesitating! Either the English Prep series or the St. Mary’s duet is a perfect choice. *wink*

***Thanks to the author for kindly providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.***

Following the events of the first book, we have the continuation of Gemma and Isaiah’s story. Isaiah, trying to protect Gemma from all his confusing and messy life, tries to avoid and push her. Even hurt, Gemma wasn’t the same submissive girl from before, so she rose and tried to move on and follow her first plan: escape from her life. Of course, their love is strong and weak for both of them, so eventually they find the way with each other again. I loved the ending of their story, and I love the characters too. And, to my surprise, I’m completely in love with Bain… absolutely needing to know more about him.
