The Fair Folk are the stuff of myth. Stories of monsters and old magicks. But all myths carry a grain of truth. That truth is that remnants of this ancient power live on in the blood of their descendants.
When Tannin's grandfather dies, he leaves her with a mountain of trouble. Between cryptic journals that warn of unknown foes lying in wait and a crippling debt owed to a cruel and formidable local Laird, Tannin is thrown into a cut-throat world where she is perilously out of her depth.
But her problems have only just begun. Secrets lurk in Tannin's bloodstream - secrets not even she is aware of. And they want out.
A scheming princess with the offer of an alliance.
This book was so good. I love the wittiness and the character's dark humor in this book. Also, the queerness in this book was the cherry on top.
Plot development was well done. I loved how fast-paced this book was. It kept me hooked and it was really hard to put down. Also, that world-building. It was so incredible, it made you feel like you were inside the story.
Character development was also brilliant. The characters were so easy to relate to and didn't feel flat and boring at all. Tannin is my favorite character.
Overall, I loved this book. It was thrilling and full of unexpected twists. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
*Thank you H Cunningham for the gifted book in exchange for my honest review.*
Not my usual genre of book, however I thoroughly enjoyed this more than I expected to and was blown away that this was a debut.
Sarcasm, humour, queer, tension, Scottish lore and lots of ups and downs to keep you at the edge of your seat. Even for a non-fantasy reader this was a thrill of a read and would absolutely recommend.
