An Accidentally in Love Story #6

Text and Confused: It's Hate at First Text...

Rate this book
It's hate at first text. Or is it...?

I'm Toni Capella, aka the girl who always falls for the wrong guy—tattoos, muscles on top of muscles, and an inability to hold down a decent job. After my last relationship went up in smoke, I decided to change my type.

When my boss hires contractor Cooper Flint, I immediately strike him off my list of potential love interests (no matter how much I want him). Cooper embodies every bad boy trait there is.

That's why I set my sights on our new accountant, Milton Rinks. Nice, sweet, and totally boring. Milton is so far away from my regular type, I decide he must be perfect for me. In hopes that he might be Mr. Right, I am determined to take things turtle slow.

After scoring his number from my boss, I find out he's a total dream via text. I get him to agree to start out with a messaging-only courtship. Via text, Milton is interesting, funny, and surprisingly sexy. I'm hoping that getting to know him better will make me physically more attracted to him.

But then I find out that I was given Cooper's number instead of Milton's. I'm falling for the exact guy I vowed to avoid!

Before I can change my mind, I break things off with Cooper and begin to flirt with Milton. I even agree to go on a Harry Potter cosplay dinner cruise with him on the Hudson for Valentine's Day. Yeah, I'm cringing too.

Then Milton offers to get Cooper tickets as well. Cooper is quick to tell me that he's bringing his gorgeous (not to mention nasty) designer, whom I hate. With a passion.

Let's face it, there's about a 50/50 chance I'm going to snap and toss her overboard. Cooper too. That is unless I jump into his arms and kiss him senseless.

What could possibly go wrong?

"Promise to tell me if you start to feel scared again. I can’t fix things if I don’t know what’s wrong"

Toni is that girl whose Aunts put her on social dating apps just so she can find Mr Right. After a chaotic morning, Toni reached work to find Cooper in her office whom she put on her "never to date" list. No matter how attractive Cooper was, she refused to entertain her thoughts.

Enter Sumner, her work colleague whom ticked most of her boxes that made Toni ask her boss for his number to text him. Except her boss gave her Cooper's number instead and everything goes downhill from there.

I liked that this book had such a consistent flow. It moved right, from the dynamics of the people around Toni to the people around Cooper. The texting-dating also made me remember how I was like as a teenager, giggling over sweet texts from boys who said we are dating over texts. I also liked that it was not a heavy romance, it was light and yet interesting to read. I very much in particular liked the quote above because communication is an aspect that is really important to me and I liked that it was emphasised in this book because let's face it: most romances continue because of miscommunication, it is a common theme.

This felt like a good standalone and I probably will not read the rest of the series. I think it covered and concluded enough bases from the start to the end. This is a: enemies to lovers and forced proximity trope based book.

If you want a fast, light, quick clean romance this is the book for you.

4 Star Review of Text and Confused by Whitney Dineen & Melanie Summers
Both the authors Whitney Dineen & Melanie Summers are new to me and I found this to be an entertaining read that ticked a number of boxes for me. This was a witty, fun book with characters whose story you cannot help but be drawn into.
This is Toni Capella and Cooper Flint’s story and one that had me laughing out loud at times. The story was quirky and I had a hard time putting this one down when real life got in my way. Toni thinks she is texting Milton the accountant and is shocked when she realizes that it is in fact bad boy Cooper, the man she knows she should not be attracted to.
Both Toni and Cooper aren’t looking for a relationship but through circumstances what starts off as a “texting” relationship quickly morphs into more. However the chemistry that sizzles between them is impossible to ignore and I was drawn into the story with the witty banter and characters that were engaging.

When Toni Capaellini realizes she’s been “text dating” with Cooper, the deliciously sexy contractor, and not Sumner, the handsome fundraiser, she is horrified. As she has sworn off all gruff, sexy, bad boys and decided to only try dating high-brow and responsible men. What follows is a humorous misadventure of finding love in all the wrong, or right, places. This book was such a delight. I really loved the banter between the characters, the crazy families, and how the story kept moving at a steady pace. The only complaint I have is that I want more!! It ended much too quickly and I really loved going on this journey with Toni and Cooper. If you are in need of a quick light hearted romantic comedy than look no further. You will enjoy this love story from beginning to end.

Cooper and Toni's Texting . . .

Toni Capella has not had a good dating history. So this time, she is determined to change her preferences from the bad-boy type to a dignified professional type, good-looking, well-educated, and all that fancy stuff. She knows Sumner Livingston, the fundraiser for the foundation she works for, is coming by for a meeting. He's dependable and clean cut. The only other such guy on her “keep” list is a fictional character (I guess so the page of hopefuls would not be blank). Sumner is nothing like her usual dating type, so he should be perfect for her. Too bad the handsome construction manager, Cooper Flint, doesn’t qualify since he is the bad-boy type who makes her drool.

She suggests that Sumner texts with her so they can get to know each other. He is absolutely wonderful, just what she wants, “The One”, and she loves his texting personality! And then she finds out her boss gave her Cooper’s contact information instead of Sumner’s! So she breaks up with Cooper. Cooper knew Sumner in school and sums him up as “pond scum”. When Sumner shows himself not to be the good guy he pretends, trying to force himself on Toni, Cooper rescues her and she begins to think she made a mistake dumping the man she should have kept. Is it too late to lure him back? Has she lost her chance to finally claim Mr. Right?

I've read almost all of the books from the Accidentally in Love series (I still need to read Text Me on Tuesday), and Text and Confused: It's hate at first sight... is the best one yet! That's saying a lot because I loved Mistle Text: 'Twas the Text Before Christmas .... Toni and Cooper were great characters and I wanted them to get together so badly! I found myself laughing, cringing, getting angry on someone's behalf, and grinning a lot.

At one point, I was listening to a relaxing music station on Pandora and the song "L-O-V-E" came on. A few minutes later, I was reading part of this book and they mentioned the same song!

There were some parts that had the potential of ending the misunderstanding before it actually came to light. I also felt like the synopsis gives away some of the plot. However, that didn't take away from my enjoyment of this novel.

Text and Confused can be read as a standalone, but if you haven't read Mistle Text, check it out first because this book follows the characters from that one, as well. It was nice to get a follow-up on their story!

Movie casting suggestions:
Natalie: Lyndon Smith

A wonderful message hidden inside a delightful story. Text and Confused uses irony to make a serious point. Dineen and Summers tickle the funny bone while delivering sage advice. Toni has more than a little to learn when it comes to matters of the heart and the perfect person to teach her could be a battered but beautiful surprise. A can't put down heartbreaker with a sweet twist.

Whitney and I are done this most fun book of a single woman who's certain all the good men are already taken, and the guy who is determined to show her she's wrong about that. It's a fun, quirky story with a cast of wonderful friends, snarky co-workers, and some swoony-worthy romance (if I do say so myself).
It's out now!

I received a free ARC of this book and am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Very light and I liked that it wasn't a heavy romance. I think the pacing and the flow of the story went smoothly, from Toni's interactions with Cooper and even with the people around her.

I started this series with the 5th book, so I remembered a little bit more than this book explained, but there were still a couple of moments when I questioned Toni's family and history. Though her aunts were a riot, I was wishing to see more of them. I did feel like Cooper's issues with his family weren't covered, and since we also see his POV, I had hoped he and/or Toni would confront his family and show them that the way they treat Cooper is not okay. I don't know if that shows up in a later book (since I'm guessing his sister might be featured in another part of the series) but it would have been a good closing moment for his arc.

The later emphasis on the importance of communication is both a good reminder to Toni and to the readers. Romance books go hand in hand with miscommunication, that's how the story keeps going, but it's important to realize that a real relationship won't be just like in the stories. (I wish)

I enjoyed this, and if I get an opportunity to keep reading the series, I will. I had hoped that Cooper's family would see how wrong they are, and that was one reason I knocked off a star. (Also because Toni called Lucius Malfoy 'the noseless wonder himself' and I'm not sure if that was a writer error or Toni being clueless about Harry Potter, though it seems she watches a lot of movies)

I raced through this one in just one sitting! And it was just as fun and cute as I was expecting and pretty sweet there at the end too.
Now I'm equally happy and sad to have finished this delightful series. Would definitely recommend picking up this series if you're in the mood for a light, fun rom-com or just need a quick pick-me-up!

4.5 Stars for Text and Confused: It’s hate at first sight….( An Accidentally in Love Story)
Whitney Dineen and Melanie Summers are both new authors to me but after reading this witty, fun story that’s about to change. If you are looking for a quirky entertaining read look no further than Toni Capella and Cooper Flint’s story.
Toni hasn’t had a good run with boyfriends and that has left her not trusting her choices and telling herself she needs a professional boyfriend not a hot, bad boy. So what happens when she realises the text conversation she has had is not with accountant Milton but actually with bad boy Cooper……
What starts off as a texting relationship soon turns into so much more, the chemistry is sizzling but it was the witty banter that stole the show. This boom ticked all my boxes and I have no problem recommending it to all romantic comedy lovers, it was a captivating story with adorable characters and I’m sure if you one click this gem, like me you will be left with a big smile on your face.
As soon as time permits I will be checking out other works by this talented duo.

This was such a great read! I was hooked immediately. This is my first story by these talented authors, but I plan on fixing that. This story was witty with fun characters and storyline. I definitely recommend! ~Andrea

"I am fairly certain this is my first book by this writing duo and it was a wonderfully written sweet read. I usually like my romance novels to have quite a bit of heat to them and this book has zero sexy times. But after finishing this story I honestly don’t think that I missed it and the story necessarily warranted having that written into it. The book was more about Toni thinking she needed to change the type of man she should be attracted to but eventually realizing that all her previous boyfriends were nothing more than duds.
Cooper is exactly the type of hero that I love to read about. He knew Toni was a game changer and even when it looked like all was lost he never really gave up thinking they could make it work. Add in a great supporting cast of characters and it was truly a great book to read. Needless to say I kinda hope Natalie ends up with her own book too. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book." ~Sharon

Text and Confused is an excellent story. Toni Cappelli has experienced several bad relationships. Her partners have a physical attraction, but not a lasting attraction. She decides to start her next relationship texting to get to know each other better. When she asks her friend for the man’s phone number. He gives her the number to the one he feels she is better matched to. Toni doesn’t understand the mixed signals she is receiving from Cooper Flint.

Cooper Flint has made a name for himself in construction. This is a disappointment to his family since they are all in prestigious jobs. He is drawn to Toni at their first encounter. He is surprised and excited to discover she wants to start out their relationship texting. After a few days, he discovers Toni thought she was texting someone else. He tries to give Toni the space she wants, but is conflicted about the man Toni is interested in.

Thank you NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the ARC!

It took me a while to finish this one. It was a cute and funny rom-com, but I had a hard time to read it. I wasn't feeling entertained that much by it. I felt like everything about it was just fine, the plot and the characters.
Toni and Cooper were likeable characters, as well as the others (not Sumner and Natalie haha), but I was missing more romance. I didn't feel like it was the real big deal between the two of them. I didn't mind that Toni was that desperate to find a man, but still for me it wasn't that great.

Loads of fun in this delightful romcom!

Toni is determined to turn over a new leaf in her dating life, which means she has to ignore the incendiary chemistry she shares with the blue-collar contractor and instead focus her attentions on the preppy but maybe just a little smarmy head of fundraising for the charitable foundation she works for.

Cooper has learned a few things from his three older sisters, but he still can't figure out if he's Bridget Jones or Mark Darcy in this frustrating love story. His heart tells him that Toni is "the one," but her mixed signals are sending only one message: Stop. So he gives her space, no matter how much it is killing him, until she figures out what he already knows about his competition.

The twist in Chapter 16 was such a surprise, but it really heightened the stakes for both of Toni's suitors. The humor is sharp and insightful, prompting more snort-laughs than I care to admit. It was also lovely to catch up with Archie and Holly and the hilariously precocious Faith.

After a snowy New England road trip, Toni and Cooper finally find their HEA and I loved every bit of it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Oh my gosh! That book was just so much fun. On the surface, it looks like it should be an opposites attract story, but once we dig a little deeper it turns out that Toni and Cooper are a lot more alike than either one realized. I loved the idea of getting to know one another better before they really started to date each other. I kind of hated that Toni initially picked the wrong guy, but I like that it gave her more time to get to know the real Cooper, even if she didn't realize it was Cooper she was getting to know. I enjoyed this book so very much, and I'm kind of sorry it's over already. I would have happily kept reading about these two for thousands more words.

Cute, Fun and Funny, Quick Read!

This was a wonderful follow-up book to Mistle Text and happily Toni gets her own story but we also get to see Holly, Archie, and the funniest kid in the world - Faith - in this story. You don't have to read Mistle Text first, but you will probably want to. This book on it own was a funny, clean (except for some language) Rom-Com with a mistaken text identity/falling for the wrong guy story about two people who are perfect for each other but it takes forever (for Toni) to figure it out! It was a perfect curl-up on the couch for an afternoon read - Enjoy!

Another fun book in the “Accidentally in Love” series! I’m lucky enough to be an ARC reader and was able to read this book prior to publication.
A journey between 2 people who are hesitant to enter a new relationship since they have been burned in the past. But the fire between them cannot be denied. Instead of taking a coffee break from work, I took a reading break since I couldn’t wait to see what happened next

Text and Confused is the sixth book in the Accidentally in Love series, and while they are all standalone stories, I would definitely recommend reading at the very least, as the supporting characters in this story are the main characters in Mistle Text, while Toni was a supporting character.

So, straight off, this was a world I was already familiar with. Toni is Archie's assistant, and having been screwed over by every single man she's ever dated, she's decided to give up on her usual 'type': generally working-class men. She's set her sights instead on Sumner, a well-healed fundraiser. So what if he doesn't make her swoon. He's dependable, with a regular income, and won't ruin her credit score. There's only one complication. The ridiculously hot construction manager Cooper. Cooper makes her swoon and want to do very bad things to him. But she's been there, right?

While I was initially annoyed with the whole working-class men ban, having read Mistle Text, I at least understood how bad things had been in her previous relationships. Of course, what she doesn't immediately realise is that Cooper is not only the manager, he's also the owner, and doing VERY well for himself. He's also having to fight classist labels from his own over-achieving family. I loved the immediate chemistry between Cooper and Toni. I was a little annoyed with the whole 'construction work is the lowest of the low' shtick throughout, particularly from Cooper's family (seriously, I thought Archie's were vile, but Cooper's could give his a run for their money). Faith makes her precocious return and steals every scene of course. Faith and Cooper's conversation over pancakes was particularly hilarious. My one real gripe was how rushed the ending felt. I wanted more Cooper and Toni actually together.

Overall this was a welcome addition to the series. I thought Cooper was pretty perfect, but Toni's blinkered attitude to Cooper frustrated me a little, and for that reason, I could only give this one four stars.

p.s. Could someone please tell Holly about 'Secret Smile'? It might not have been a hit in the US, but it was massive in the UK and definitely one of the best songs of the late '90s.(Not that I'm biased).

2.5 stars- This book was fine. The writing was average and the plot was average. One thing I have to comment on first is when there was going to be a Harry Potter dress up party and her date was going to go as Lucius Malloy, this is what the book says:
“ ‘Lucius Malfoy,’ my intended replies. I have no words. I leave the meeting so the men can finalize their plans. My first outing with Sumner is going to be a Harry Potter cosplay cruise with him dressed as the noseless wonder himself. There is no part of this scenario I saw coming.”
Seriously? By noseless wonder is she referring to Voldemort? Lucius Malloy very much has a nose. This seems like a glaring error!
Second, the way Toni treats Cooper throughout most of the book, especially after dumping Summer makes no sense. She’s just rude to him for no good reason. She’s also initially pretty rude to the owner at the inn where they stay, which almost makes her unlikeable.
Thirdly, why couldn’t Cooper just come out with the story about Summer and his sister? He had plenty of opportunity and it obviously made a difference in how she felt about him.
Overall this book was fine, but not one I’ll remember in a couple months time.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me access to this eARC for my honest opinion!

Text and confused by Whitney Dineen and Melanie Summers

NetGalley provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

So you see that part? Honest review? Even tho they send me a copy, I won't kiss anyones' asses. So be prepared.

Firstly, the story.

Toni is a desperate woman, who wants to find a man badly, so when one day at the office Summer pops up (an intelligent and beautiful fundraiser) she is determined to get him to date her.

Instead of his number, she gets the number of the contractor of the same project - Cooper. But his bad boyish style and huge grin push her away.

THE NEXT PARTS CONTAINS SPOILERS, READ ON YOUR RISK

This book was frustrating. So frustrating.

Toni is probably the worst female character in the universe of bad female characters. She was rude (even if your boss is married to you BFF, that doesn't give you permission to be so insolent), judgy (let's not pretend her whole "I'll judge the book by its's cover" attitude and her prejudices didn't put her in that position), and dumb. I almost DNF'd the book a few times because of her.

And Cooper was nice from the beginning, he was kind, and understanding (about her 3-weeks-texting-only rule), and deserved nothing but the best. What he got is an entirely different story.

I don't see how their imaginary relationship can develop in the future, as she is so unbearable (so I expect a sequel about Cooper dumping her ass).

It frustrated me the fact that she believed the lies Summer told her, even after he tried to r*pe her. And didn't even let Cooper explain properly what the situation was (in which he was as innocent as an angel).

The other thing that bugged me was Faith. I know 7-year-old kids, they don't think like that, and they don't talk like that. The actions of Faith were more actions of a teenager than to someone from the kindergarten. (And you want me to believe she knew the alphabet by 2?)

And lastly, is this even a romance book? I respect that there are "clean romances", but this thing was "holy-water-type-of-clean", cause they didn't even kiss until the Epilogue (and that was brushed off as something unimportant). We had a few weeks of them texting, then a few weeks of tenseness, a weekend in an inn, and the end. All in 300 pages.

Anyway, the only thing I enjoyed was the writing. It was flowing and was actually easy to read.

So in the end this was 3 stars read, which I wouldn't recommend to my romance friends. But a nun would probably enjoy it.

This is book seven of the Accidently in Love series and the main characters are Toni Capella and Connor Flint. Toni works with her best friend Holly and her husband Archie, as Archie’s assistant in his new venture the Faith Foundation. Holly suddenly found herself responsible for a young Faith, after the death of her sister and her husband years ago and struggled to make ends meet until she met Archie Harrington. She opened Archie’s eyes to the struggles of normal people and he set up the foundation to help others. Their big project is to create a new village of at least forty homes and infrastructure for the homeless, allowing them somewhere to live, job opportunities and training, all in one place. Holly is a few months pregnant with baby Joy, named after her sister, Faith’s mother, and is struggling with severe morning sickness and no energy. So it is left to Toni to pick up the slack. She wishes she could have what Holly and Archie have, but her dating record has been pretty horrendous, with one boyfriend stealing form her and another mooching off her and not able to even keep a job. She has decided to change the type of man she usually goes for and try to take it slowly this time round.
When the contractor for the homeless village project comes in for the plans, her body reacts to him immediately, but her head makes her refuse to play along with his flirting manner, as he doesn’t match her man in a suit ideal. Connor Flint finds her lovely, even if she s soaking wet after being splashed by a garbage truck on the way into work, and her old clothes that she changes into and which don’t quite fit anymore, makes him like the look of her even more! She has already heard that a successful fundraiser called Sumner Livingston will be working with Archie’s foundation to help raise money for the cause and after looking him up, she sets her eyes on him, without having even met him. When she does, she definitely doesn’t get any flutters for him and even subconsciously compares him to Connor, even without trying. Connor is super successful and at thirty three could even retire, but he loves his job and the company he has built up. Not that any of his ultra-successful and academic parents and three older sisters agree with his choice. They are surgeons and lawyers and every birthday his own mother sends him brochures for masters’ degrees and tells him he would make a good lawyer and that it isn’t too late to change direction. They all try and set him up on dates, but he really isn’t interested in any of the people they want him to be with. Toni has had a similar issue with her mum and aunts trying to set her up and with some very weird outcomes!
Toni asks Archie for the man’s number, but he gives her Connor’s number, not realising she meant Sumner, as he had seen the obvious reaction she had to Connor. Toni texts Connor daily from then on, explaining she likes him and would love to get to know him better, but that she is taking things slow and wants to just text for three weeks, to see how they get on. Connor is all for it and they end up talking about all sorts of things in their texts, their likes, dislikes and even how pushy their families have been. Nothing reveals to her that it is not Sumner she is texting, as she had asked him to keep matters professional if he saw her at work and not let the others know about them courting, that is until it all falls apart and she finds out who she has really been texting. Even though they have a great relationship starting in their text conversations and she was falling for the person she thought he was, once she knows it is Connor, she stops texting him and refuses to even be around him! She doesn’t know what history Connor and one of his sister’s has with Sumner and Connor can’t tell her without it looking like he is lying just to get her for himself! As the fundraising event gets closer, she begins to wonder about Sumner, as he doesn’t contact her at all. And on the night he makes advances that she doesn’t find welcoming and refuses to take no for an answer. Connor comes to her rescue, but that just plays into the story Sumner had already told her about Connor and she doesn’t want to be with a man who will resort to violence! Only a chance conversation reveals all to Toni and she wonders if she would ever have a chance to make it up to Connor and if they could still have something together or not. She has treated him badly and made assumptions about him because of his job and the way he dresses for it, and may well have burnt too many bridges between them.
Luckily for her, Connor still really likes her and was desperate to find a way for her to trust him. Archie plots a way for them to be together, but she thinks Connor set it up and there have to be a few sullen and moody moments, before the fireworks can begin in a very romantic setting. Another great read in this series, with HEA endings and some characters you may know if you have read some of the other books in the series, but you don’t need to have read any, to follow this storyline. I look forward to catching up with the couples I have missed reading about and any more to come in the rest of the series. Good light hearted clean romances, with enough filler to make you love the characters and not just a tea break read. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
