My Rides With Sahib is a philosophical, poetic ride through various human emotions and relations. It is the story of Sheetal, a young female taxi driver. One day, she drops a passenger at the airport but as the passenger was short of cash, he hands over his business card to Sheetal and asks her to give him a call for the balance payment. Little did Sheetal know, that this meeting with "Sahib" will change her life.
The "Sahib", a man in his fifties, is MD of a paint company as well as founder of an ashram. Sheetal drops him to his company and other places often after their first meeting and gets to know him and his world. He encourages Sheetal to pursue her passion of writing poems and also helps her in uncountable ways. Sheetal's rides with Sahib goes through little bumps and it is also sometimes filled with joy, read the book to find out how it ends!
This book is very quotable, the narration is filled with author's contemplation over various subjects. The book is slow paced and more attention has been paid to character development. There are many characters in the book besides Sheetal and Sahib who play their role perfectly and have clear personality traits like Satyam, Vijay etc.
The writing style is descriptive. Sahib's character has an air of mystery as we get to know his full story only by the end. There were a lot of twists in the second half and the end was unpredictable, however this book would have been more interesting if the secrets that were revealed at end were distributed or hinted at throughout the plot. The story and female lead are unconventional, I am glad that this book didn't turn out to be just a romance novel. Overall, it was a decent read for me.
Chattanathan is back. This time with a novel Mumbai story, of a young lady taxi driver who, despite being pushed around by her circumstances, is a new age poet and philosopher, with a take on everything, people, chawl, people in chawl, Mumbai city itself.
“A city that stood there giving hope to anyone who cared for a better future.”
She say, highlighting Mumbai’s status as city of dreams. But, she doesn't miss its under belly too.
“Million other like me, living in poverty and ignorance in this city. Their lives served no higher purpose but to be a mere proof of existence.”
In fact, she has keenest observation for a twenty something I have ever known. Her comment on people in toilet queue of the chawl is incisive as scalpel in the hands of a surgeon to touch the heart of the matter- the weakness and strength of the poor.
“Twitching and turning, being on the edge, and delaying the inevitable for another moment is the poor man’s super power.”
And, then, there are numerous other nuggets of general wisdom which to me seemed apt to a tee.
“A person full of self-doubt walks on a mine field.”
Or, when she is talking about the newspaper.
“Always read it, it prevents us from shrinking to the size of our own limited world.”
Or this, my personal favourite.
“Washing car, ironing cloths, where simplicity and quickness of removal of dirt, or a wrinkle, makes it feel like instant gratification.”
Sheetal, the taxi driver, the poet, the philosopher, is character of strength and audacity, and little intimidating too. Something, I wish, every woman should be.
Chattanathan characters are from common folks, but he is able to see some thing special in them that summarises them in a nutshell. His description of Sahib, the other lead character, is pitch perfect.
“The face of an apostle with eyes of a baby.”
Or his description of the sign board of paint company, shows that he definitely can imagine things beyond the obvious.
“The pink letters of signage were piped with black, as though masculinity was wrapped around the feminine protecting it, and the hue of the colour in-between was such that it was difficult to separate them, there the masculine and feminine had blended inseparably. "
And here are some other gems, among many others, which have profound meanings, and so true in practical sense also.
“Pedestal is a prison where we put people on in order to force them to behave to our liking.”
“Also, those who waste too much time in preparation are not left with enough time to reach destination.”
“Greatest guarantee of success comes from one’s ability to handle unpredictability, which, incidentally, is an emotional ability and has nothing to do with knowledge”
“The nature of life is such that it prefers a faster solution over perfect solution.”
Some of the deep philosophical insights which make this book very special.
“All children would be poets if they could express in the language of grownups what they see. “
“The past and future are the weapon of time, made lethal by the blade of fear of death attached to them. “
And, in the end some thing about “the end” it self. One of her comments at the funeral, on seeing people cry when corpse of a beloved is being assimilated by fire:
“Form is something humans cry after, that’s the only thing they recognise.”
“Fire frees atoms from the bonds of form and returns them to freedom, to universe.”
“My Rides With Sahib” is an enlightening ride from the beginning to the end. It’s a joy to read and ponder over, if we may over look some not so great proof-reading job.
A simple yet inspiring story of a lady taxi driver(Sheetal) with his passenger(Sahib). The premise is set in Mumbai. The chapters were named ride, a journey. Each journey has something unique to offer to the readers. Some parts made me emotional some gave me goosebumps. Although a long book but I have finished it in a day because how the author connected every sequence was commendable, I literally felt that someone is sitting by my side and telling me the story. In the very first chapter both our important characters meet and the story starts. It was very interesting to see how two complete strangers in a very less amount of time leave a powerful and emotional impact on each other. So if you like to witness extraordinary journeys narrated in an efficient way then you should check this out.
This is the story of Sheetal a young female taxi driver who is supporting her family. Her work is her life, which has been pretty mundane and monotonous. But it takes a surprisingly good turn when she befriends an old man Mr.Nathon AKA Sahib, a passenger she helps out. Sahib and Sheetal, they go from being mere acquaintances to practically becoming family.
The plot is so simple, it's realistic and moving, but so wonderfully narrated. As shahib becomes Sheetal's support system and vice versa there bond truly shines through the pages. I was smiling through the first half of the book. Then when the plot twist came, i kind of expected it but it still shook me.
This book has a wonderful message of acceptance, creating a family, never giving up.Surely pick it up if you are looking for a different read.
"My Rides With Sahib" by Chattanathan D is the story of a taxi driver Sheetal and his fellow passenger Mr. Nathon. The story is divided into forty chapters, and each chapter covers the story of one ride taken by Mr. Nathon and Sheetal. The story will show you how Sheetal finds her friend and a mentor in Sahib who is none other than Mr. Nathon. I finished the story in one go, it is refreshing and beautiful. Talking about the language, it's rich yet easy to comprehend. If you want to read something light and refreshing then you must go for this book.
‘My Rides With Sahib’ by D Chattanathan is a story which shows us that all relationships that we form in our life may not be owing to some motive, but there are rather still some genuine bonds which grow and evolve due to the simple notion of enjoying each other's company, without any cause or genesis.
In order to support her father, who no longer is in any shape or form to continue working to bolster their family, Sheetal, our main protagonist decides to take up the job of driving a taxi so as to be able to hold up and aid the monetary side from her end.
It is apparent that Sheetal’s parents had high hopes and aspirations from her, and wanting her to be a taxi driver was absolutely not something which they had envisioned for her. But necessity and situational circumstances of the individuals makes them take decisions which they wouldn't otherwise.
We could see that Sheetal had a heart of gold, by the way in which she offered the money to her passenger in a random act of kindness upon seeing his struggle, without any premeditation. If you have a lot to give, and then offer a part of what you have, then its not something noteworthy. But our female lead had absolutely nothing with her, yet she offered everything what she had, that too, to a complete stanger shows her character.
The book shows us how a certain situation or incident can change the entire path of an individual. Sheetal was someone who was destined to do great things, but fate had something else planned for her, resulting in her current predicament.
But what is there in our kismet can't be taken away so easily, hence the question remains on whether our protagonist will be successful in achieving her dreams and finding her true self or will she end up leading the normal, mundane life. I'm going to give this book FIVE SAHIB STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a compilation of 40 short stories or more precisely 40 rides with a passanger of a taxi driver. . Sheetal is a young ambitious hard working & intelligent girl. She has a dream in her eyes to become a poet. But when life hit you hard, the dreams scattered first. This is what actually happened with her when her father had a massive heart attack & later on he got paralysed. . The situation getting worsen with each passing days & she had to leave her dreams her studies everything & became a taxi driver to fulfil the daily needs. . On this scenario she met with Mr. Nathan who is described as Sahib in this book. After meeting him her life started taking a new shape. . He became like a mentor for her in life not just to support her but also showing the real path to her. . They started meeting with each other quite frequently & each time on a drive she started learning something new something different from him that just helped her to brush up her skills her mind & thoughts. In the meantime she started pursuing her dream of writing poems. . To know what happened next grab the book & give it a try. . . Cover of the book is good it's just complimenting the storyline. Writing style of the book is good. It's not like other stories we read in our day to day life but it's something really different really unique which talks about a mentor and mentee & how one person can change the whole prospective of your life.Language used in the book is perfect it's just blend with the storyline so nicely that you are going to enjoy it thoroughly.Narration of the book is nice it's quite diversified. You can find stories revolved around real life with some good quotes along with a good message. All the characters are nicely developed & beautifully portrayed but the bond between Sheetal & Sahib is the show stalker for me.Book is moderately paced little bit lengthy but completely worth reading.
“Most of the people are afraid to confront and embrace their darkness, but it is in that darkness you will find the happiness and fulfilment you have been longing for.”
Not everyday you get a passenger in your back seat who would bring a change in your life. Not every person you meet once, you feel connected. Destiny has a lot of things in store for you. Sheetal, a lady driver offered Rs1000/- to the MD of a renowned company instead of charging him a fare of Rs250/- as he had forgotten his wallet at home. Since she inherited a heart of gold from her parents, she somehow believed that her money would be returned by him for sure but in return she received a lot more..
A story of 350 pages described beautifully and struck my cords so badly that I woke up till 5:00 in the morning to reach it’s end. A fast paced description of Sahib,Mumbai rains, chawls, Mumbai traffic, Gateway of India, standing in a que at a public toilet, Bitiya enterprises, interpretation of poem and expression, introduction of Sepal, meaning of love, Marina beach and life of Sahib, Sheetal, Vijay and everyone from the factory and the Bitiya enterprise did not make me feel bored rather it got me closer to their lives with Sahib. Each time Sahib would mention “The last wave” and the story would remain a mystery cause Sahib wanted to wait for an appropriate time and that made me wait too along with Sheetal. Even I believed that the ice would break when the right time arrives and so I waited.
I am still not sure if it’s fiction but if people like Sahib exist then I would really want to be a part of his life. A story which left me spellbound and took me back to my memory lane, my childhood and the time I had spent with my parents. I was not in a hurry to reach the end cause each chapter was intriguing.
I recommend this book 200%, this book needs a special recognition as we actually look up to people like Sahib to become a role model for everyone.
"I believe, no amount of preparation would be enough, one needs to learn many things as one goes along and adapt quickly" (Quoted from the text)
Everyone will get an idea that every ride will give us a story but there is the twist. The story itself runs with every ride and that one word in climax made me emotionally sick. Our protagonist Sheetal is promising and lovable young girl rides taxi instead of her sick father. Mr. Nathan our antagonist runs a successful company. They both meet accidentally once and rest is the story. Why Nathan makes Sheetal to come with him all in all the rides? Is the only question through the story. Suspense is revealed in the end.
Other than the story there was lot of conversations happening and we can see young girl has lot of questions in her heart. The life of a mumbai taxi driver is explained honestly and a lower middle class life style is also mentioned in every aspects. I personally recommend everyone to read this extraordinary book which is not only a story but life lessons.
My favourite elements are, 1. Broken moon birth marks 2. Importance of newspaper 3. Without plan actions are directionless concept 4. Importance of listening 5. Handling unpredictability 6. Definition of success 7. Ability of the poet All these topics impressed me and I felt this book can also be categorised as self help book.
My favourite quotes,
"Great succes in life is made up of two things, hard work and a few great decisions"
"Those who think small remain small. Those who think big but cannot support it by every day hard work, fail big"
"My rides with sahib" is one of the best books I have read so far and want you also to read this wonderful journey with Sheetal.
How do I start?! I love the way this book is written! I always start off by telling who's story the book is about, but here- this is not one person's story. It has a myriad of characters and it is everyone's story. And by everyone I don't men just the characters- it feels like this could be the story of just about anyone (un)lucky enough to be found those particular circumstances. Sheetal is a taxi driver in Mumbai. Her father had a heart attack and is paralyzed on one side, hence she has to leave her education and her dream of becoming a writer on the back burner, and turn to ferrying passengers around the city to support her family. One day she meets Mr. Nathan aka Sahib. In a weird turn of events, she ends up lending Sahib 1000 rupees, with him promising to pay her back the next day. Thus begins the story of Sheetal and Sahib, no- not a love story- but a story of a paternal bond- a mentor and a mentee. Sheetal meets a lot of people due to Sahib- Vijay, Smitha, Ramnath etc. being some of them. She also starts to publish her poems and refine her writing. She is amazed by the person that is Sahib. She looks up to him, and follows his directions. But good times don't last and tragedy strikes. True colors of people are exposed, and the rot of jealousy destroys relationships. My ratings: Plot- 5/5 (This is an easy 5 because of the descriptions of Mumbai, the observations of Sheetal, the twists and also the ending.) Characters- 4/5 (I loved the love triangle, and also the character development and constant as well.) An extra star for the way the book is divided in rides instead of chapters, and the description of life in Mumbai.
As I correctly dipicted, this book contains the story of a young female taxi driver and her priceless conversations with her sahib.
Sheetal, a talented young women creeps into a huge family crises when her father, a taxi driver, becomes paralysed. She shoulders all the responsibility and steps into her father's shoes and chooses to drive his taxi for a living. A chance encounter with Mr. Nathan(sahib of our story), an emerging business man in his fifties, on one of her rides, turns her life forever.
Sheetal slowly becomes closer to Sahib. He guides her in making right decisions in her life and pushes her to excel in everything she does. While proving all that she is, Sheetal understands how great a man her sahib is. But, what is it that made sahib so special to Sheetal? Is he really a magnanimous person? What is lying in past?
Trust me, I wanted to answer all of these questions myself. I wanted to narrate the story myself to you people. There was not a single place in the story where i felt bored. It is very close to the realty and when we get to hear success stories and the background of the success and the persons behind that, it will instigate that inspiration in you. The ideas in this book are inspiring. Hope, someday I do something similar if I am given the power to. I am glad I came across this book. I thoroughly lived it. And the ending was not what I expected. It is actually more than what I expected.
P.S.: I can guarantee a scenic taxi ride, while reading this book. So, don't hesitate to pick this up.
“The beauty of life is unseen. When we are alive, we forget what we have. First is life, everything else looks incidental, be it relations or otherwise, never realized that there was more to it than just breathing. How beautiful touch of sunlight feels today! I thought darkness had surged in forever.”
Sheetal, a young, determined, and ambitious girl, is forced to give up her studies to feed three stomachs. She earns her living by riding a taxi on the Mumbai streets. Her life went on a similar note until she met Sahib, a kind-hearted businesses man who has devoted his life to the poor and orphans. Sahib soon became her regular rider and a strong bond developed between the two. As their company changed Sheetal’s life for good, she, though unintentionally became the reason for his collapse.
The main positive highlights of the book are its unique storyline and strong-willed protagonists. The book itself is filled with positivity and life lessons. And the author deserves a huge applause for the realistic portrayal of the day-to-day incidences.
Apart from the leads, there are many side characters, each of them is unique and relatable. The story is a bit lengthy but won't let you bored. It also holds a lot of emotions and few plot twists. The poetic verses, though not much, are a cherry on the cake. Overall it would be a great pick if you are in for a lengthy realistic fiction.
My Rides with Sahib is the story of Sheetal whom the fate pushed from college to Mumbai roads. She takes up cab driving after her father suffered a stroke. Bright and inspiring, Sheetal faces many ups and downs at a tender age. Sahib is a generous businessman who hops on to her cab one rainy morning and Sheetal helps him with money. That’s how the journey of their life starts. For Sheetal this journey takes her to places, gives her a chance to live her dreams but what about Sahib, where does this journey takes him? You need to read the story to know it.
Book has a philosophical tone. Through Sheetal’s character and her philosophy of life Author says a lot about Mumbai life and life in general. Sahib’s generosity has not just touched Sheetal’s life but has helped many other who needed his help at various times. He has the ability to recognise talent and he believes in building a community. Book has many brilliant quotes that live with you for a long long time. On the other hand this philosophical musings adds to the pages to the book and make it sound dragging many a times. The language of the book is rich and lucid. I liked the idea of naming the chapters as rides, making it sound more like a journey. The cover page could have been better. Overall this is one book that carries not just a fictional story but many life lessons. This is suitable for all age groups and one can read it in leisure time enjoying each ride slowly.
‘My ride with Shahib’ is a tale of Sheetal and her struggles. Sheetal is a bright student, and she wants to study more and build a great life. But she had to leave her BA in English early as her father was struck by paralysis. She started driving her father’s taxi to earn her livings. One day during a ride, she meets Mr.Nathan. Mr.Nathan attracted Sheetal’s attention, but he left without paying the fare. He left a card and asked her to collect money from that place. Then one ride led to another, and the conversation started brewing between them. But there is something strange with Mr. Nathan; his constant disappearing and unusual events are trapping innocent Sheetal under disturbing events. What secrets are Mr. Nathan is holding?
The book is a lengthy read with 18 chapters. I struggled a bit finishing it as I felt the writing style is a bit too stretchy. It's almost like, you have to skim through the lines to identify the real context. The writing style was well-descriptive but not engaging, I am afraid. And I started losing interest in the context. But, coming down to the good points; the book represents a clear picture that how poor people suffer in their daily livelihood. The context will make you feel closer to them emotionally. I liked the character's sketch of Sheetal, but at times I felt her overthinking and recklessness is killing certain chances. The book will make you suspicious and one great mystery of Mr.Untrackeable will be unraveled.
🎼 SYNOPSIS: A story highlighting the basis of conflict in human relations, and its inevitability. Even when everyone is trying to do the right thing, life still forces them to face unexpected trials and tribulations. A lesson that love is the mother of all conflicts, even hatred is rooted in love, perhaps too much love for someone else.
🎼NOVELTY: This book has been written with segregation in multiple chapters. Also every chapter of the book is a journey which progress the story with flow and give perspective to the reader while reading the story.
🎼GUESSWORK: This book is a story of a girl named Sheetal who ended up become a taxi driver due to circumstances. As shared earlier the chapters flows the journey of each passenger. The book talks about the nuances of relationship and how we should handle things with emotion, compassion and love.
🎼LANGUAGE: I loved such a polished language used by the author which is really commendable.
🎼FINAL CALL: initially I misunderstood the concept of the book by reading just tittle itself. But I'm glad this book has offered such a good content and will inspire you despite a piece of fiction. The way story has flows and intricacies of emotions and relationships have been mentioned is really commendable and indeed a read for everyone..
The best thing about this book, that actually binds it together, is the characterization of each character, be it the protagonist, the Sahib, or any other supporting characters in the story.
All of them have been woven into the plot in a certain manner, strongly connected with each other which made it worth the read.
I loved the title and how it goes so well with the plot of the story. Sheetal, the protagonist is a smart young woman who comes from a common household where her father is bed ridden and can't work and she takes the responsibility on herself, leaving behind her dreams, just like any daughter would do. This characteristic of Sheetal makes the readers fall in love with her at the first instance.
Next comes the Sahib, who is a fellow passenger in Sheetal's cab. Their rides have been each put into a chapter and narrated in such a beautiful way by the author that it feels like watching a movie from one scene to the next!
Coming to the supporting characters, their importance is no less than the two main ones. I love how the author added the connect between Sahib and Vijay, which again tells us about Sahib's personality in such an indirect but subtle way.
I totally enjoyed this book because of the reading experience provided by author's seemingly effortless narration.
“My Rides With Sahib” by Chattanathan D is an absolutely riveting piece of fiction that revolves around a female taxi driver named Sheetal and a successful businessman cum philanthropist named Mr Nathan.
Divided in forty chapters titled as rides , the book in the narration format presents the story of a young intelligent girl named Sheetal who is forced to drive a taxi because of her poor economic condition. Struggling on the roads of Mumbai to make ends meet, Sheetal comes across a very humble businessman called Mr Nathan whom she calls “Sahib”. As Sahib becomes her regular passenger and they get accustomed to each other, a very special bond develops between. Sahib who’s also a philanthropist drags Sheetal out of misery and helps her in realising her dreams but things don’t stay merry for long, as things take dramatic turn, a lot is put at stake.
Weaved in beautiful prose, the book is a roller coaster ride of human emotions and relationships. This presentation of myriad shades of feelings and relationships helps readers understand the essence of human life. With strong characters and engrossing storyline written in simple and lucid language, the book keeps the readers hooked till the end and leaves them mesmerized. Would recommend it to everyone!
My Rides with Sahib penned by Chattanathan D @chattanathan2
The title itself had gripped me and every chapter as the story kept unfolding had me more invested. The book is divided in forty chapter and each chapter is like a story in itself with interesting titles. Each story is narrated with so much detailing that the visuals literally play in front of your eyes through the authors words. I have a lot of favourite ones particularly there is a chapter “Afterglow” that touched my heart. Well you will know why once you grab your copies. Let me introduce you to the book a little in the meantime. The story revolves around sheetal who is a taxi driver not out of choice but out of circumstances and during one of her rides she meets Sahib (Mr Nathan) who changes her perspective towards life along the many rides that they take. The book is fast paced but I read it at a slow space because I didn’t want it to end and was wanting to go on for a little longer. The reason behind it were the life lessons that one learns through their conversations and ray of positivity that the story emotes. I would recommend this book to all its a ride that you will enjoy what ever point in your life you read. Ps - I adore the way the author writes his female protagonist be it in this book or the latest book “Anjanamma”
- The book is based on a lady taxi driver, named Sheetal. The narration is from her point of view. She has been through some challenging times but things take a turn for the good. She covers the events in a span of 40 chapters that feature each ride she has taken per chapter. Through this, she narrates how she meets a Sahib. He soon becomes her regular customer and in spite of all the odds, the two form a strong bond.
- However, just when things were sweet and mellow, life throws her off-balance and threatens their strong bond. The book continues to show whether she will be able to fight this obstacle or if she will succumb to it. Will the two have a chance at anything more than a customer and Sahib relationship?
- It is a great contemporary romance story with a refreshing and gripping plot. The plot has been explored well. The character of a lady driver was unique to me. Both the main characters have been portrayed well, with Sahib shown to be kind at heart and helpful while Sheetal is portrayed as a strong, independent, and fierce personality. The title is apt as it justifies the story.
- Overall, it is a nice read for those looking for a well-written romance story with great character development and world setting. Definitely recommended!
The unique cover and title made me pick this up. The book is light read that can be read while traveling. I will briefly summarise the blurb. The book is divided into 40 rides or we can say chapters. The story is mostly set up in Mumbai. Sheetal is the protagonist of the story. She opted this profession of driving taxi leaving the last year of the college. Her father was also a taxi driver. One day she helped a passenger. The ride costed him 250 but he had only 50. He promised Sheetal to take remaining amount the next day and gave him a card that reads his name DC Nathan. The book mentioned several unique incidents of her ride with Sahib such as Sahib bringing over lunch for her. Sheetal’s father had stroke and not able to do things on his own. Author portrayed a perfect picture of living with a disabled person. We might not think but this is the story of many households. Read the book to unfold entire plot. I liked the plot. It’s unique and presented beautifully. The language of the book is lucid so that everyone can pick it up. Author has also mentioned her struggles being a female taxi driver realistically. I liked that. Overall good and quite a different read for me. Interesting !
It took me while to read as it's consists of 423 pages, but it was worth giving time to it. It's a fictional plus motivational book. The story revolved around the life of sheetal. It has 40 stories in numbers each dealt with the life, problems/ sufferings of her. She has a quick witted personality her aspiration was to become poet but as we know life is not always fare. Due to unforeseen circumstances which struck her completely. She was baffled she started doing job of taxi driver and other character named sahib he was inculcated with very friendly and good personality. He was a businessman but with the down to earth nature and specifically a good human. He uses to help others to meet their dreams, further he became friend and a Mentor of sheetal. Will her life once again get to the right track, will she able to achieve her goal?? Will she write another story in the pages of her life?? Read the book to unfold the complete story..
It's a fast paced and too the point that kept me hooked till the end. The characters were well potrayed with the perfect development. It was a Amazing read...
Sheetal, a young woman with big goals and ambitions, suffers a cruel turn of events when her father has a heart attack and she is forced to work as a cab driver to make ends meet.
Another character in the story is Mr. Nathan, who is referred to as Sahib.
Sheetal soon sees him as a mentor who transforms her outlook on life.
On his trip, her style of thinking, her manner of pursuing life, teaching her a new lesson every time.
It's incredible how a single person can transform your entire outlook, whether for the better or for the worse, by exerting their influence on you.
And since you're so motivated, you make a change, and this is the result.
Sheetal looks up to him as a mentor who teaches her about life and helps her grow into a better person and pursuing her ambitions.
What I enjoyed best about this book was how it occasionally mentioned some very great quotes that were short but had a big impact.
The simplicity and beauty of the mentor-student bond, as well as the enlightenment that comes with it, make this a story unlike any other.
My rides with Sahib is as enjoyable a story as its intriguing title. The title itself makes the reader curious about a number of things, like who is this "Sahib"? What follows is a sweet story, read this amazing book to know more.
- Well, the book has a very unique concept. It depicts how talent paves way for a better future. -The characters are very well developed and portrayed. -The story has a little bit of mystery and I was looking forward to read more and more but the book is quite long and many aspects could have been stretched out. The book could have been polished a bit more to create a fast-paced impact. - Otherwise, everything else is on point, the language, the narration, the characters, the plot is brilliant.
“Life comes at a cost. Wouldn’t it be arrogant to die before you’ve repaid that debt?”
My rides with sahib is a read which many of us could relate our lives with, that what makes it such a simple yet soothing read. The story is divided into forty chapters or forty rides which our protagonists take on together.
Sheetal is a very kind and intelligent lady who originally wanted to become a poet but due to family crisis she had a hard time and now works as a taxi driver,on the other hand Mr.Nathan is the one who is referred as sahib in the title and is the passenger here.
As the story keeps on going Mr.Nathan became more than a passenger to Sheetal,a mentor a guide an idol who always tried to help Sheetal. The story is filled with inspirational lines which cheered me up at many points and made my perspective toward life broader and brighter as the chapters passed.
The writing style was lucid and the narration was very enticing and praiseworthy, though it is not a self help book yet it was very rich in philosophy and gave me positive vibes throughout. A very subtle and peaceful read.
