The Comforter & other rose-tinted struggles

Rate this book
The Comforter is a thrilling and dark story about a man who needs to pay back a small amount of money. And so begins a tale of prostitution, picaresque high jinks, violence and finding love in the most unexpected of places.

This is Graham Bendel's third novel and, similar to the others, is fast-paced, compelling and a lot of fun.

Bendel is also known for making independent film documentaries about popular musicians.

A QUIRKY LITTLE READ
The title of this attracted me. I do love a good title. As far as my own short stories goes that's about as far as got but I do think a good title will indicate a good story. The Comforter is a novella and the book also includes two short stories.

The first story a novella was the best story about a guy having to do bizarre tasks in order to pay a debt to a heavy . Lots of strange and amusing stories here.

It was original I will say that and this has introduced me to someone new as a writer and as well fortune teller press a press up until now unheard of by me.
Next I want to read Poems for the retired Nihilist . I love the title and as it features Leonard Cohen of whom I am a big fan I am sure there will be something in there for me.

I'm only really getting back into literature and i have struggled following plots and this may be for various reasons but I did enjoy reading this but at times wasn't sure what to make of things in the other two stories one about vampires which aren't really my thing and the other one about a demented chef I think!!

“Everyone needs a Comforter in their life”

So I stumbled upon this wonderful book by total fluke. What can I say, it is the most enjoyable, joyous read. I love to read books that just take me on a journey and this one certainly did. I have been trying to imagine what I would do if I was faced with the same problems that the Comforter is faced with, I have no idea but I would probably dress as a nun and just hope that things worked out for me. I really hope that they make a film or tv series, but who could possibly play the lead character? Please make this into a series, I feel that the Comforter has so much more to offer. Highly recommended, whacky, different but with a bit of truth in there.

The Comforter & other rose-tinted struggles, I thought, was very special. A joy to read, very quick-paced. It had a good plot, which was easy to follow, and was tense and funny in equal measure. It's something you can read in a few sittings but I chose to savour it over a week -as really didn't want it to end.
So what's it about? A man, who seems to have had a criminal past, owes money to someone but doesn't have a single penny. So he comes up with ways, which get more bizarre, to pay off that debt - or face being viciously beaten up again (as he was before the story starts).
