The beautiful Athanasia was killed at the hands of her own biological father, Claude de Alger Obelia, the cold-blooded emperor! It’s just a silly bedtime story… until one woman wakes up to suddenly find she’s become that unfortunate princess! She needs a plan to survive her doomed fate, and time is running out. Will she go with Plan A, live as quietly as possible without being noticed by the infamous emperor? Plan B, collect enough money to escape the palace? Or will she be stuck with Plan C, sweet-talking her way into her father’s good graces?!
Honestly I mostly LOVED the beginning and how it felt, as our main character got older I found myself less invested on the story since it was diverging from what I originally loved so much about it. I kept reading because I still did enjoy the series and I found the love triangle entertaining, but I got really made at the end after a whole lot of the book centered around developing her relationships with both of the boys, and even made it a big focus up til the last chapter, only to leave us without a definite choice because they likely wanted to "leave it up to the reader" which, while that's understandable it still made it feel less sincere when the last chapter switched back to her father and hers relationship, but much more watered down. I also sadly didn't find myself connecting with how they closed it, while I liked the reference to the book in the beginning I can't act like I enjoyed how much it romanticized her and again watered down what was the most important parts of the story. I loved this a lot compared to a lot of other stories in this genre, I actually really like it. I just put it at a three because how it screwed me over in the ending (In my opinion) I still really enjoyed the story and suggest it to anyone who likes books like this. To me it puts a lovely shift onto this common format, and I find myself inching back to the beginning chapters for more, because I love her relationship with her father, and her in those first few years, so much.
If only there were an official English translation of this web novel, I would have already bought it in a heartbeat. But as it's only been unofficially translated online. I have to make do. But yes, I love this as much as I love the manhwa adaptation. I read the manhwa first, and after I finished the series, I went back and searched for the novel. I'm glad I did. Since the novel includes more details, it adds more depth to the story. Plus, the ending is somewhat different than in the manhwa. Not that I'm complaining since I love how the manhwa ended it. It's a really nice father-daughter ending. But of course, I'm a sucker for some romantic ending as well, so I vote for the ending in the novel. ^^ Athy ending up with...
I read the Manhwa version in one week (125 chapters) then I got curious so I searched online for the novel. I did not regret reading this even though it was very long because the novel offered more depth to the story and richness to the characters. This will be one of my favorite comfort novels. A random find that I will reread for sure in the future :) Shipping Lucas and Athy forever :)
This. I deeply enjoyed this book. I cried a bit too. T.T Also shipping Lucas and Athy so much lol. Everyone, including the villains, are gorgeous. The art and story are great. So glad I started this. But really thankful that it's already been completed instead of me waiting on chapters lol.
One of the things that I love about this story is how diverse the characters are, especially their dynamics. You can have a sense of understanding as to why this character did this or this character did that. As someone who loves a family dynamic trope, I would re-read this again. :))
