After a tragic near-death experience, he’s left struggling to pick up the pieces of an existence that’s grown monotonous. He’s so sure he’s stuck until an old neighbor reappears, turning his new, uneventful life upside down.
While reconnecting, the two embark on a journey that leaves them grappling with their new lives and falling back into a whimsical world full of secrets they created as children to escape reality. They soon learn that outrunning the truth isn’t as easy as it once was, but that doesn’t mean they won’t give it a try.
Rae you are soooo wrong for making me fall in love with Desmond the way you did. When I saw Mo’s story was 548 pages I thought 💭“self, do we really need this many pages to tell his story?!” WE MOST CERTAINLY DID!!! I could’ve taken 500 more 😭🤧Mo was first introduced as Dominic’s right hand and music manager when he was getting his career off the ground in “Saving Sunflower” and it goes without saying that he was a jerk. He gave my girl Claudette the hardest time and I side eyed him all the way until he got shot in “The Endgame”. Baby!!! Talk about layers!!! Rae peeled back every single layer that made up Desmond Simmons in this story. He was so raw and vulnerable and relatable. My heart broke for him as he struggled internally. Dezzy’s story is not for everyone but if you get him, YOU GET HIM. The story picks up with him a few months into life after “the incident” aka his near death shooting. You really get an entirely different perspective of him and what life after a shooting is like for some who are fortunate to survive. We went on a deep sea dive exploring all things Desmond. His internal conflict and mental anguish. How does one recover mentally physically and emotionally from being shot that many times? How does one continue to provide for those that he loves when he’s afraid to leave the house some days? Ugh!!! My poor Dezzy! He was truly the sun!
The key piece to Desmond’s story is his Bunny aka Logan!! Hunny Ms. Logan was something else. I was side eyeing her tail during 50% of the story because what you not gone do is play with Dezzy’s feelings when he’s already so vulnerable and healing from deep trauma. Logan had just as many layers as Desmond and once you learn her story and how her and Desmond became as close as they were, you really begin to understand them even more. The love was DEEP. I thoroughly enjoyed their story just as much as the others.
Before I end this review it needs to be said that Claudette and Evie are true blessings to these men… Dominic, Josiah and Desmond. They were truly angels with hearts so pure and I LOVED them!
I love Rae Lyse’s writing style. I love the way she writes the characters. I love her work. This book was well written, so I didn’t have an issue with the way she wrote the characters or the themes she displayed in the story because it was all well executed. However, but, comma. I was not as engaged with this one as I was with the others. This book was a little more lengthy and I was hoping with more to read there would be more information, more character development, more something. But there wasn’t, it felt like a lot of repetitive conversations, filler scenes, etc. I loved Mo and I actually did love Logan, I got her I guess. I understand the way that Rae was trying to portray her. And she did it well. But the overall situation did not keep me hooked like Jojo and Jade or Nic and Claudette :(. BUT IM STILL SUPPORTING MRS. LYSE DON’T GET IT TWISTED. I have never came across a writer who can write as convincingly and vividly as her, she is that chick. I just think her writing shifted from new adult to adult and I kinda liked the new adult more.
Bunny and Dezzy took me THROUGH it. I’ve seen mixed reviews about Bunny but I absolutely loved her. That girl loved her some Dezzy and I was here for it. At first I didn’t understand her, but once Rae started peeling back those layers - I understood her. I felt every bit of the bond her and Dezzy had 🥺.
& Dezzy - I’m so happy that he finally realized that he deserved to love and be loved. By the end of this book I was calling him Tupac 😭 my boy truly has 9 lives like a cat.
Man, it took a lot of dialogue to get to this couple’s HEA….Logan & Desmond were childhood friends/family…if the two of them didn’t have each other growing up, their situations would have probably been worst than what it was. It took a lot, but the two of them finally got to live out loud with the love that they had for each other. This was really a loooooooog story…the narration was really good and helped me get through the story.
To the world, he’s Desmond. To Dorthea, he’s Maurice. To Dom, he’s Mo. But to Bunny, he’s DEZZY!
The third installment of The Sun Series tells the story of Desmond (nicknamed Dezzy), a gangster with a gentlemanly demeanor who has survived multiple gunshot wounds, and Logan (also known as Bunny), a woman who is engaged to Jason but cannot let go of her love for Dezzy.
As you read along, you will learn that the love shared between Dezzy and Logan is not your typical love; it’s LAW!
“I’ll always be for you and you’ll always be for me—until the very end. That’s the law, Dezzy.”
I’m sooo glad I learned the real Mo because I was looking at him sideways for the first 2 books. The story of Bunny showed how trauma and forgiveness go hand in hand. I loved the way the storyline flowed and how the suspense kept me on my toes. I almost lost my mind in ch 20, that’s where I jumped out of bed with a fist pump. Mo had me blushing in this book even though my heart belongs to Josiah. He was mannish and although his vulnerable side peaked sometimes I appreciated his hard core. My fingers are crossed for DeShaun and Key’s story but for now I’m satisfied.
Rae Lyse has done it again. “Bunny” the third installment in her Sun Series was no short of amazing. It is really hard for this review to do this story justice. “Bunny” centers around Desmond, whom we were introduced to in the first two installments for the Sun Series and Logan aka Bunny. Logan and Desmond met when they were young children and developed a relationship that was complex but so incredibly powerful. As young children they have experienced their fair share of trauma, but found their safety net in a world where only “Dezzy and Bunny” exist. Desmond’s character was so needed and powerful. I felt that Rae Lyse gave a voice to black men that have experienced trauma and feel they are undeserving of love. He has had quite a journey in life. Being a gunshot victim multiple times is sure to change anyone’s view on life. Desmond taught us that underneath the stoic nature of the black men lies pain, anxiety, and depression. I LOVED Bunny! I loved her spirit and how she loved Desmond. I loved how they both breathed life back into each other when they are at their worst. This story was so much more than a romance. It was a story of two people that grew up in uncontrollable circumstances trying to navigate life without being handed the tools. This story is definitely a slow burn. A good slow burn that gave me all kinds of feels. The character development was thorough and well done. The storyline gave us a beautiful balance of both past and present. The writing was amazing! Do yourself a favor and read this story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"You just keep protecting him. Sometimes he don't know he needs it. Our Superman can be prideful." - Logan
If there was a quote that summarizes this book, the above quote is it. It shows the high regard Logan has for Desmond. Logan's love and admiration for Desmond is raw, vulnerable, and genuine. In Logan's eyes, Desmond really is her Superman. He saved her when she was just a young girl, bouncing from one bad situation with her family to another. She bounced her way right into Desmond and Dorthea's life, like a bunny, hence the name.
Is there such a thing as loving someone so much that you'd do any and everything to meet the needs of someone else? Literally by the end of the book, I asked myself this question. It seems that Logan went through leaps and bounds to prove to Desmond that he could trust her with his heart.
This entanglement kept me engaged, I totally was held against my will with these characters. About 70% into the book, I literally had to stop and debrief about what I had read thus far. The book is a slow burn but I was so stuck into their world that I didn't mind one bit. The two had history and bonded over their traumas and in a sense raised each other, there was no way these two souls wouldn't find their way back to home, which we learned is not a physical place but wherever the heart is. I am so eager to see what else this author comes up with. Definitely FIVE Stars and a great book to dissect.
Ok!! I didn't like Mo in Sunflower buttttt now I see why, he didn't have his Bunny. Usually, men are the toxic ones but it was so refreshing to see the female character be the toxic one. I loved Bunny! Great read & another 5 star read for me!
To the person who has this in their TBR list, stop procrastinating, I'm bursting to give out all the spoilers because wooowiiiee these babies were a rollercoaster!
Bunny was just (messy, cute, funny, hopeful). I'm going to call her a professional mumu-button pusher. Sis had all the keys to her kingdom. : )
Desmond was giving me two things the entire book. 1. Somebody call Iyanla immediately for this man. 2. He was also giving "You're doing great sweetheart!"
The book 📚 was amazing!!! I read several reviews before getting started and realized at about 20% in, it needed to be slow. Their were sooooo many layers to the characters to peel back to get to the real stuff. Bunny and Dezzy were a amazing together. The journey was well worth the wait!!!!
I have grown to love Rae Lyse writing style so it wasn’t the writing that I had a problem with. I love the way she writes her characters. Her pen game is amazing. This book just fell flat.
As long as it was, it was not as engaging as the first two books in the series. So far The Endgame is the best book thus far. This book was very lengthy, and repetitive. I remember being 20% already knowing where the book was going and still having well over 300 pages to go. This book was drawn out a little too much for me.
The book doesn’t really pick up until 80-85% of the book and even then you kinda know where it’s headed. I honestly should have DNF.
I may be in the minority but I feel like Bunny & Dezzy relationship was a little weird and felt they depended on each other too much.
Rae did a phenomenal job portraying both Bunny & Mo, 10/10.
I figured Desmond was dealing with some things. He was dealing with a lot. Poor thing had a rough childhood. He made it. Logan, Logan, Logan! I was going to tear her to shreds in this review at about 40% of the book. She grew on me. Once again, everyone needs a Clo. Good read.
All the feels! This was a journey filled with adventure that had me on edge until about 95 percent just like Bunny and Dezzy’s world. These two had a love that was rare but never realized because life dealt them bad hands. Logan lied so much she came across as a manipulator but when you find out why, you got it and her. I loved she didn’t have to lie with him. That they always had a home with one another when the outside world grew too much for them to bear.
Oh and I absolutely fell in love with Mo. I didn’t think it was possible but he was so vulnerable and tortured it was hard not to. One of my favorite parts of the book was his candid conversations with Dominic. His openness with Claudette and how he loved on Evie and his Bunny. I so enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for whatever the author has up next.
Usually friends to lovers stories that leave unsuspecting casualties irritate my soul, but not this one. Desmond and Logan's childhoods were untraditional. The toxic environments both were thrown into forced them to be close, so close that the people around them had a hard time deciphering the terms of their friendship. Their pasts have them both running from love and clinging to safety, because usually that's what's best. Or is it?
Because I read all three books in this series back to back, I was extremely caught up in the story along with the characters. This read was a slow burn, not having much action until you get 80% into the book, but that doesn't take away from the beautiful story that the author crafted. The characters are complex and layered and that always makes a good read for me. It's a love story, but like the other reads, it's splashed with gangsta shit. Loved it!!!
There are so many highlights in my copy of this book & I look forward to having the paperback in my hands. This author is so talented and this is just her third book! She writes like a seasoned writer and drops so many gems throughout. Her work gives readers hope & light in rainy seasons of their lives. The growth experienced from the encounter with these characters as AAYA, truly allows many readers to identify unfortunate common trials possibly lived. Once again, Rae's characters give them hope.
This story shared life lessons for readers and much wisdom from flawed people trying to get through just like everyone else. Absolutely loved it! Can't wait for the next project!
*MILD SPOILERS and lengthy review but worth reading* The writing was amazing, she has a great way of conveying her characters’ stories and I admire that. However, I had a hard time connecting to Logan specifically. I think it had to do with me just wanting her to stop toying with her fiancé. It was annoying to see how Mo enabled her so I couldn’t even completely blame her because he loved their games (and many people got wronged as a result of that) but their love was so tangible that I wanted them to just be true to that without the cheating/hiding. Even though her fiancé definitely wasn’t the greatest character, I don’t feel like anyone ever deserves that, and I especially feel like it wasn’t warranted because it wasn’t as though she had the excuse of feeling like she was running out of time and had to settle like so many women do because the characters are still extremely young, she was more so using him just because. My biggest issue was just the games they played and how it was a norm for them, I always apply certain parts of fiction to real life so it just made me think of how people get toyed with today when the person is just waiting for their “one” to get it right and they get off easily with their HEA while the people who suffered as a result of their actions are stuck questioning themselves and wondering where they went wrong (not projecting, but for real, think of all aspects). There were many things I missed out on because the games were just too much for me so I made it to like chapter 21 before I just skipped to the engagement party because I wanted to see if anything changed in their unhealthy pattern, and they really didn’t until the very end. Even her apology to her fiancé was lackluster and I felt like there wasn’t the deeper explanation there I needed to further understand her. Forgive me if there was a chapter I missed that explained her ways in depth due to skipping a lot but even then I wouldn’t think her actions were right, nor were Mo’s for being her backbone in all of it (he doesn’t get off easy!). The reason this book gets a 4 star review is because regardless of all that it was so greatly written and you saw the more amazing aspects of their personalities, neither of them were inherently bad people I just found it hard to get over their pattern because it was such a huge part of the book. I love Rae Lyse’s way of writing and admire her characters, so regardless of me not agreeing with their actions I can still acknowledge that the book was well done in many other factors. I will definitely still stay tuned in to her releases. Loved seeing Clo’, Nic’ and Evie and I really hope we get Autumn’s story!!
I know a few others felt similarly to me… but the level of DISGUST I felt for Bunny ruined this story for me.
LET THE RECORD SHOW… I’m team Mo, and Bunny ain’t the one.
Mo was introduced in book 1 of this series and at that time, I was giving him major side eye for his treatment of Claudette. Somewhere in book 2, we learned of the incident. I was curious about how he would be redeemed in this book, fully expecting him to be the person I struggled with “liking.”
Whelp! 👏🏾I 👏🏾was 👏🏾wrong👏🏾.
One thing has been consistent in this series, the men are very broken. The previous two (Dominic and Jo) were lucky enough to find women, who had some level of healthiness. Not the best, but better than each of the guys.
Mo was not that lucky. He was unfortunate enough to attach to THE most manipulative young woman. She could tell he was struggling- majorly with post traumatic stress and depressive symptoms. Yet she continued to “play” and push him. Her and Dorothea, disgusting. Asking for ish he couldn’t offer or have the mental capacity to deal with. Each time, it pissed me off, then I had to push myself to finish the story.
I mean… this poor guy was constantly pushing himself for people who didn’t give a damn about him. Yet they would say, they loved him🙄.
Mo’s background was very very similar to Dominic. It explained their connection, and why D didn’t separate himself from Desmond when there were issues between he and Claudette.
Mo deserved more! I’m almost afraid now to read the final book, because goodness if it’s another Mo and Bunny situation. It will ruin the series for me.
When Rae lyse drops a book expect for the book to unpack trauma from a black man. && I say that in a good way! Because she gone start the healing! She goes there with that lil black boy that was abused, used, overlooked, under loved, and never understood. I love that about her. Iono if it’s because I’m raising a black son or what but I love that about her writing. Bunny was a slow burn from the past. It was layers to Dezzy and Bunny. Yes it was a lot of back and fourth games. Maybe even childish but I got it. I understood. Bunny knew what she wanted from rip it was dezzy that couldn’t or felt like he deserved to give her what she wanted. His heart. She was begging for it. Dezzy had it on lock from his own insecurities from his childhood. The reason why you don’t put your past experiences on your child. You have to speak life into your black children because the world already against them. It explains why he was so stand offish towards Clo when she came into Dom life. Never settle. Do yourself the justice and let the one that love you. Love. I always hear make sure the guy loves you more. Dezzy loved her more because he willing to live without her to make sure she got the life “the good life” he knew she deserved when all she wanted was dezzy life…..fully enjoyed a different side of this writing. Oh also unpack Bunny tragic childhood that’s needed because sooo many black girls don’t have a good relationship with there mother. This showed the ugly side of being passed between the system and family without a ounce of love from both.
Without giving out any spoilers this was honestly a story that I did not regret reading. I had to process this story before writing a review because the characters “Desmond and Logan” were complex. They didn’t come from much in a sense. Their parents were not in their lives and to top it off the people whom they were placed with after unfortunate circumstances had their own issues. This is a story about imperfect people, living in an imperfect environment. I read some of the reviews that weren’t so favorable and I understand that we are entitled to our own opinion. However I urge you to see the skills of this writer. She didn’t glorify the cheating or rather the dysfunction of Desmond and Logan’s ways, she told a story which ended in growth from both Desmond and Logan.
This story was written very well and intriguing. The character development was not rushed. For these reasons alone I have to rate this story a 5 star!
It doesn't get good until 71% of the book. All the pages before were pages filled with the same phrases retold after a story in different words. Desmond and Bunny are cute but they played waaay too much to get to the point. For a person like Logan, she really needs to see a therapist and grow up from the constant lying. Desmond too needs it cause his delusional ahh keeps falling for this madness.
Horrible Story. I was anticipating so much more after reading the first two books in this series, but I was left empty. This relationship was a tragedy, and lacked the purity we seek as romance enthusiasts. I encourage all readers to digest Saving Sunflower and Endgame first, then come to your own conclusion. Still a fan of Rae Lyse but not this.
I can't say that I was intrigued by Mo or Desmond enough to read his story, yet I did want to know how his relationship with Claudette and Dominic would be after the incident. Also, any glimpse into Josiah and Jades relationship was enticing, so here we are.
I didn't like the games Logan, aka Bunny, played with Desmond and vice versa. They were too old for what they fell back into once she came back after college. I would've been more into it, possibly, had she not went and got engaged. Jason, even though he wasn't the greatest person, didn't deserve their games. Desmond thought he was giving Bunny a better life by pushing her into Jason's arms, yet all he was doing was breaking them both. I can say that they deserved each other, whether I liked it or not.
I skipped over many parts bc I felt a lot of this book dragged and could've been wrapped up a lot faster.
I did like that Dominic was getting better and better, healing and becoming better for his family and for his best friend, Desmond. He had his back and I love that they had that breakthrough.
I almost gave up on this one, yet I'm glad I kept with it. Definitely loved the ending.
I’ll admit I was NOT excited to read about Mo after Saving Sunflower but I will sign up for anything Rae Lyse puts her pen to so I agreed to take the journey. Bunny was a piece of work but I enjoyed her character. I got her.
Desmond was the treat for me in this book. I didn’t know how much I needed to get more of his backstory and I definitely didn’t see this conversion coming but I really like him. I felt for him. Bunny too. My heart hurt for him and Bunny after learning their back stories.
Rae Lyse always seems to pull you into the world of her characters in such a poetic way but Bunny and Dezzy were another level. The intimacy between Bunny and her Superman was off the charts. I really felt like we were in Bunny and Dezzyland where it was just the two of them and no one else existed. Truly. Maybe that’s why I’m not mad at Bunny because in my mind it’s Bunny and Dezzy. That’s it and that’s all. Lol!
I sometimes struggle with stories where there is already an established connection but Bunny and Dezzy sucked me in. Forever rooting for these two! My favorite Rae Lyse couple so far.
I didn't mind reading Mo's story but I thought it didn't quite flow for me. There were a lot of scenes where it was talking about the past between Mo and Bunny and how she came into his life which I usually do not mind reminiscing in books but this had a lot of it which kind of disrupted the flow from what was going on at that time in the present day. I didn't mind the whole cat and mouse games between the two of them but I just felt like it was dragged out. On one hand I understood why Mo felt he wasn't good enough for her based on what he experienced growing up with his mother and father but on the other hand, you could see that she didn't care what he could or couldn't get for her so why not just be together. I did not like Jason's character at all and I don't care how much you can "take care of me" I would have been out after that restaurant situation and his blatant disrespect. He was trying to control her and change her too much and I didn't really care for it especially with the way her "Bunny" character was portrayed. Overall it had a good ending and I got what I wanted from it but I just felt it took way too long to get there.
I have to admit...I was a bit confused in the beginning. But this story sucks you in and keeps you wondering what's next. Bunny and Dezzy were the best parts of that hood, ghetto kinda love!
Bunny the highly anticipated 3rd installment in the Sun Series does not disappoint!
Firstly I'm still in awe of Rae Lyse. She is has a way of immersing you into the story. By the end I was so engrossed in the lives of Desmond/ Mo / Dezzy / Maurice and Logan Bunny / lil bit / bun bun (yes I included all their nicknames lol) I was sad to turn the last page ending the last story in the series.
Bunny is about more than the love shared between Mo and Logan. It is a story of overcoming fear in many forms. Logan / Bunny is 24, small but mighty, lives to play games, and is determined to reclaim her spot in her best friend Mo's life. Bunny bounces right back into her hometown working as the guidance counselor at her former highschool with her very rich very blonde fiance in tow.
Desmond / Mo is trying to stay afloat after a nearly losing his life in a drive by shooting. Mo is Superman to his younger siblings and his bunny Logan but can't seem to see himself in the same light. He's keeping a secret from his best friend Dominic and Dominic's girlfriend Clo that could end their friendship. Wanting to leave his old life of hitting licks and selling dope Mo seeks a normal job at his former highschool as a janitor. He sweeps (literally) into Logan's life again.
Mo tries to ignore Logan's presences in his life again after two long years of not speaking to her while rehabbing his broken body. Logan falls back into her sneaky bunny ways worming her way back into her Dezzy's life with a little help along the way from his granny Doretha.
Bunny is a emotional rollercoaster with a happily ever after.
Rae Lyse has me in a chokehold with this series! Every book keeps getting better, but Bunny? It’s my favorite (until the next one, I’m sure). The cat-and-mouse games had me hooked, and watching the characters grow together was EVERYTHING. I’m obsessed, Rae Lyse doesn’t miss!
First, I want to start off by saying the first two stories in this series was really great stories and this one didn’t live up to my expectations. Bunny is the story of Desmond and Logan, two kids who grew up without a traditional family life. Desmond and Logan who grew up living across the street from each other, Desmond with his grandparents and Logan lived with her aunt. The story drifts to moments in the past a lot where the two of them first meet, form a childhood friendship, grow to depend and love each other, and then eventually become less dependent upon each other. The story is long and often it felt as if it was dragging and would never end. Honestly, it took me a really long time to finish reading this story. I even thought about saying forget it and just returning it, but I kept reading hoping the direction of the story would change. Unfortunately that never happened. These two obviously love each other but Desmond decides Logan deserves better than he can give her so he lets her go (kinda), cause what ensues is just a hot mess. The whole business with Jason was too much, like for real! I really liked Desmond, but I think he was too much of a pushover and that Logan definitely took advantage of his feelings for her. The two of them and their toxic relationship with others came across as highly dysfunctional. Logan was very immature for a college grad and Desmond seemed smart but kept making the same stupid mistakes that kept him in and out of harms way.
When I read book 1 there was no way you could ever get me to believe that I would ever love Desmond/Mo much less want to read a whole book about him. He was mean and so broken. Yet here I am after reading Book 3 (Bunny) and I am absolutely in love with his journey. His tortured soul will forever have a place in my heart.
Bunny was a delicious slow burn. Many layers. Lots of internal dialog between two very intriguing characters. Bunny/Logan loved to play games but believe me when I tell you the journey is worth it. The way this author tied up the that certain chapter of Logan's life was beautiful and much needed closure to that part of the story. The way she detailed the conversation/confrontation with a protective Claudette was brilliant. The trials and tribulations of the friendship with Dominic and Mo, the forgiveness *chefs kiss*
I am absolutely blown away by this story. This unsuspecting couple became my favorite. The way Rae Lyse navigated depression, abandonment issues, fear and unconditional love was breathtakingly beautiful. I am so proud to have experienced the journey of this series and I look forward to what's next. I have already pre-ordered on Audible.
Rae Lyse thank you for this installment. For giving me a black Superman to fall in love with and a pesky Bunny Rabbit to take care of him. Job well done on this amazing installment and the series as a whole!
