Bardstown #2

You Are the Reason

Rate this book
There's a choice in everything I do, and that one choice can change my life forever.
Falling in love with Lacey Evans was a choice I didn’t even have to make four years ago. One look at her and she had my heart. I had the ring. I was ready for my forever, but when she was given the opportunity to chase a dream, she didn’t choose me.

She left town without a word.
I didn’t get a choice.
I didn’t even get to say goodbye.

After two years away, she shows up at my father’s funeral and tells me she’s back for good. Now I’m faced with the realization that although I’m hurt, confused, and frustrated seeing her again, I’m also still in love with her.

All I want, all I’ve ever wanted is her, but there’s only so much heartache I can take before I break. And when Lacey fractures my heart with another crushing blow, I’m not sure I’m strong enough to withstand the pain this time.

Leaving was once her choice.
Will letting her go for good be mine?

This is the second book in Susan Renee’s Bardstown series. I loved the first book and this one is just as good!

Graham Fox is a tattoo artist, who runs his own tattoo shop in his home town. Several years ago he fell hard for Lacey Evans. So hard in fact, that he planned on marrying her. But… before he could pop the question, she got the chance to follow a lifelong dream and left, leaving Graham devastated.

Two years later Lacey’s back, showing up at his dads funeral. Graham doesn’t know what to think or how to feel. Does he still love her? Can he forgive her for leaving? Should they start over? Or should they just be friends?

Lacey has been through hell in their time apart, of which Graham knows nothing. When he finds out what happened it breaks his heart all over again. Lacey once chose to leave him, will Graham now choose to let her go?

I loved the characters and I love how I get to meet my favorite ones again and again in this series! They are stand alones, but they also intertwine a bit, which I absolutely love.

It has romance, very enjoyable spice and heartbreak. So, be warned because you’ll likely be shedding some tears (I definitely did!).

All in all… loved this book, highly recommend it and can’t wait to see what the remaining two Fox brothers are up to in the remaining books Susan Renee has planned for this series!

Life has a way of throwing curve balls at you just to see if you can over come them. This was surely the case for Graham and Lacey. They certainly had their own obstacles to over come before they could find their way back to one another.

I read this as an ARC and absolutely couldn't put it down. It definitely gave me all the feels. I cried with both Graham and Lace. I cried when I realized why Lacey was having her nightmares. I also cried with Mrs. Fox, God love that women. Even after loosing her soul mate and life partner, she still is able to give her sons what they need, when they need it. When she told Graham and Beckham about her miscarriages, I cried like a baby. It was nice reading how a mother would talk about the emotions and feelings that she felt when having a miscarriage.

Make sure you have a full box of tissues and nothing planned for the weekend before starting this one. You won't be able to put it down! "Tittynope"

I am GUTTED. This was absolutely beautiful. Raw & real. I truly believe this was one of her best writings yet. Love, loss, trust… Graham is truly a man who will fight for what he loves and I am HERE for it. Lacey is just beauty and such a strong woman. You’ll need some tissues, but it’s so worth it. I loved being able to catch up with characters from the first book. I’d love my own Fox brother!

First - This was way better than the first book in this series IMO. There I said it.

Second, I’m finding myself pleasantly surprised by the emotional depth in this story, because the reason I love this author is for her hilarious lighthearted laugh out loud funny books that I reread when I need a pick me up: Smooched (Camel Toe Series - all three books are great!) and HolePunched. This series seems to have gone in an entirely different direction, and it’s beautiful.

I adore this family. The patriarch, Mr Fox, recently passed and left behind his beloved wife and four adult sons who still need his guidance. He brilliantly left them letters that they received at his passing, as well as at pivotal points in their lives per their mother’s discretion. So far, she is 2 for 2. He knew exactly what those sons needed to hear!

This is Graham’s and Lacey’s story, and it’s beautiful and heartbreaking. ***Trigger ⛔️ ⚠️ Warning*** Stop if you don’t want to know any spoilers- there is a stillborn delivery that is very much a part of the story, and causes Lacey to suffer with PTSD after returning to their small town. Graham had been in aware she was pregnant, so it was not revealed to him until near the end of the book.

These two are soulmates. Unlike the first book , I believed their love to be real from the beginning. But they were young and Lacey had big dreams and left for Hollywood, breaking both their hearts. She quickly regretted her decision, and suffered with the consequences for two years before finally coming home a fractured woman. She made the wrong choices and she knew it, and paid a heavy price as a result. It was heartbreaking to see the pain from all viewpoints, yet also beautiful to see the boy’s mom sit them down and share her own experiences with loss to help them understand.

This series is about relationships- not only between the romantic couple, but the siblings, their parents, their small town, and friends. It’s well written and draws you in, and makes you want to spend some time getting to know them better

Spoilers ahead

As i started this book is thought I was really gonna like it. Unfortunately I liked it less and less as it went on until finally I was ecstatic when it was over. I'm convinced this author has never met a man or at the very least has never seen a group of men interact with each other. I am not exaggerating when I say that Graham is the most pathetic man every written. He cries non stop. Not even cries, literally sobs. At one point he's in the fetal position sobbing. Multiple times people have to bring him tissues. I can't stand the toxic alpha males so prevalent in the books but Graham was an embarrassing beta male. I have no idea who he was supposed to appeal to. I just kept laughing at how ridiculously emotional he was. Lacey was better but only a little. The kicker is that she didn't actually love Graham. She chose to leave him ( I don't blame her) and only settled for Graham because her move to Hollywood didn't work out. Between all the brothers having repeated conversations where they discuss their feelings in a way no men do, the ridiculous reaction Graham has to finding out about Lacey's miscarriage, and absurdly wise deceased father and a lottery jackpot that adds nothing to this story I can't remember the last time I struggled so much to finish a book.

You Are the Reason is the second book in Susan Renee’s Bardstown Series about 4 brothers that live and love in the small town of Bardstown. While you could read this as a stand-alone, first, why would you? Second, reading book one, I Like Me Better will help the story flow better.
This story happens in about the same timeline as book one. The Fox family patriarch has passed away, bringing the family together. This book is about Graham, (who may be my favorite, it’s the tats!) Graham is not only mourning the loss of his father, but the love of his life, Lacey, who left him 2 years earlier to pursue her dreams of her own DIY show in California. He’s surprised then, to see her at the funeral.
Lacey is back in Bardstown because she still loves Graham, but will he love her back when he finds out her secret? Grab this book and the Bardstown series and find out, and grab a box of hankies. I’ll admit, it takes a bit for me to cry at books. Yup, I needed one, two, maybe three hankies for this. So add You Are the Reason to your TBR and get hooked on the Fox Brothers!

wow

A good book can delight you with the words on its pages.

An spectacularly well written book transports you into a different time and place and makes you feel every last emotion.

This book is the latter.

While I’ve read this series out of order this book by far was the most emotionally charged book. After reading the dedication I knew where this book was going to go. “When you know, you know”…. And I do personally know.

I cried along with the characters not only because of the way the author wrote the story but because she wrote it so perfectly. Every emotion and choice she had the characters make were believable and well constructed.

This love story was so well written and I loved all the little details she wrote into the story tying the brothers stories together. (Who doesn’t love interconnected stories?)

I wish I could meet the Fox family because although this is a book I am super jealous of how amazing they sound. Whatever the author equivalent of a standing ovation is- Susan Renee deserves it 100%

Gosh dang I wanted to love this book. But man….it just didn’t land there for me. This review DOES contain spoilers

I loved then continuation of the Fox Brothers story. Lacey and Graham’s history and her return were the catalyst for this one. Lacey is clearly suffering something that we don’t find out until over 50% through the book.

What we find out is that when Lacey left, she found out was pregnant and eventually delivers a baby boy who was stillborn at 7 months. Pregnancy loss and miscarriage is so hard. As someone who experienced it herself, I know that. I was so flipping mad that SHE NEVER TOLD GRAHAM! Not that she was pregnant. Not that she lost the baby. Obviously, when he finds out - it’s the 11th hour twist.

The book does have a HEA - but really, I wanted graham to tell her to 🖕🏻off. Family members try to convince him that they didn’t know what she had been through and her pain. And that’s right. BUT HE WASNT GIVEN A CHANCE. To me, that is unforgivable and unrealistic.

I may have to take a break from this series for a bit until I come to terms with this one.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful

This is a beautifully crafted story of loss and heartbreak but thankfully also of dedication and perseverance. The amount and depth of love felt between Graham and Lacey in this book simply cannot be described. The sadness, heartbreak, and tears along with the joy, amusement, and achievements are a rollercoaster for sure. You feel brought into this couple’s struggles and the family’s love in such an amazing way. Mr. Fox’s continued love and dedication to his sons, and amazing life lessons, is so heartwarming. And the banter between the brothers is like no other - absolutely hilarious! Susan Renee is an outstanding author and You Are The Reason, book two in the series, is spectacular. These can be stand-alone books but why would you deprive yourself; read the series and fall in love with the Fox brothers!

Ok so I’m struggling with this…because Lacey withheld something for 2 years that she had NO business to withhold… Graham is an amazing man with an amazing family who would have supported her through IT ALL.. My heart broke for Lacey, but it broke more for Graham, because I’ll never understand why she did it.. the book was beautifully written, the emotions pour off the pages, you can feel the loss and heartbreak, you can feel the healing and compassion… I know love helps people to forgive, I know love helps overcome so much …. I just feel gutted for Graham.. I know he’s a fictional character, I know it’s a story … but somewhere and to someone this is happening and it will never be ok to me, unless the man gives a good reason for it, in the ways of abuse or drug use… those are the only two ways I can see it being justified…. I’m giving 4 stars still for all the emotions …

I received an ARC of this and I'm so glad that I did! I loved the first book so much. I feel in love with the town, the Fox brothers and the writer's fun writing style! It's a wonderful romance that follows Graham and Lacey. Graham is such a deep soul and I may still love Beckham a little more but Graham was easy to fall for. The second chance love trope is one I enjoy because well...i don't always trust enough to give second chances. Even though this is merely a fictional story, I love to see them work out for the best!

The father is still one of my favorite characters even though he has passed on. The words of wisdom he leaves for his boys just hits so hard and so well. I really can't wait to see the next in the series and fall for another Fox brother!!

Second Chance
Bardstown Series (Book 2)

Trigger warnings
Miscarriage

Graham fell in love with Lacey years ago. He was ready to marry her, but she left town. When his father passes away, she comes to the funeral. What he doesn't know is, she's back for good. He's her only tie to the area. She has one last secret she needs to confess. Will he be able to move on from his pain and hurt? Will she ever forgive herself?

Dang, this author just loves to rip your heart out and put it back together. This book hurt to read. Hurt more than SEVEN (I loved you then), but sometimes pain is a good thing. This book made me cry way too much. Sometimes, though, you need a good ugly cry. This is the perfect book for that.

It took me a while to find the words to do this review. First, You Are the Reason: Small Town Second Chance Romance is the second book in the Bardstown series. Read the first one to understand everything going on with this wonderful family. Second, be prepared for spectacular story telling. I laughed, I cried, I curled up in a ball and sobbed like a baby, but I felt better afterwards. And I think a lot of readers will understand and identify with that cleansing cry. Susan Renee is masterful at making you feel every emotion from Graham and Lacey, the good, bad and the ugly. And, she gets you through all of them with heart, love, family and community. I love this family, I love their dad even if he also makes me ugly cry at times, and I love the message. One choice. Make it a good one. You need to choose this series and this book! Right now, go...go get it!

Back for more...

I apparently couldn't get enough heartache, and heartbreak from the first Bardstown book so here I am reading number 2. I promise you won't be let down by this roller coaster. I have said it once and I'll say it again, a million times over, Susan is a master at making a story funny yet devastating all at the same time. Graham and Lacey's story is heartbreaking especially if you have gone through part of what they endure, both together and alone... But every single word is worth it! If I haven't convinced you by now to read this book then I don't know what else to say!?!? Just read it!!!!

Lacey and Graham were together for years. She had dreams of being on a TV show so she left when she was accepted. She left him behind when she left. Now she's back and things are different. I love it when both parties think they know how the other one feels when they don't have a single clue. She is so sad and all he wants to do is help but he doesn't know how. He's beyond sweet with her. Lacey and Graham both need time to process and go through what happened with each other and not alone. I will admit that I did cry while reading this. You will need tissues. I enjoyed this.

This is the second book in the series the Bardstown and about the Fox brothers, this time we get to read about Graham. He has his own tattoo studio and a broken heart cause the love of his life left him. But she did come back and now Lacey is here for good. But can he forgive her?

This book is an emotional read, it is so good. Has spice and tattoos, a couple that gets a second chance. Oh and funny comments among the brothers.

Oh Susan, you did again. A book that made me cry.. I love it and I can't wait to see what will happen next.

Love is a tricky thing. You find it, loose it, earn it, keep it forever. It's always changing too. So when Lacey leaves graham to follow her dreams half way across the country you wonder if they ever find love like that again. So when she finds her way back in Bardstown you wonder if they'll continue where they left off. Heartbreak, secrets, and time have definitely changed them both! Will the turn their antique romance in to a refurbished master piece? Will their love be like a new tattoo, painful in the beginning but beautiful and worth it in the end? Well, read it and find out!

Omg! This book pulled all the feels out of me. Lacey left Graham two years ago to go live her dream in Hollywood. Now she is back home hoping for a second chance with Graham. Graham can tell Lacey went through something traumatic while in California but he doesn’t know what it was. The secret Lacey is hiding has to power to rip the two of them apart for good, or bring them closer when it comes out. I loved this book, it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Can’t wait to see what the Fox boys have in store next.

Graham and Lacey are definitely one of my new favorite book couples!  This second chance romance will have you hooked from the begining.  I loved the writing style of this one!  The bounce back from each character and transition from past memories to present is flawless.  There are some rough topics in this story but they are topics that happen all to often that aren't acknowledged enough in my opinion.
I loved this series so far and the fact they can be read as stand alone.  The Fox brothers are hot!

Having read the 1st two books in this series, absolutely cannot wait to read more! Love the chemistry these brothers have with their ladies...Keep a box of tissue handy, you'll need it with this one!

To be madly in love with someone, while apart for years, is a rare thing. To be able to pick up the pieces and continue on is even rarer yet. Mix in a devastating secret and the courage to live with it, unbeknownst to the love of your life, is heartbreaking. Being able to share that secret with them..... priceless and endearing.

Cute

This was a cute story..I liked it better than the first, but I love tattoos & tattoo artists, so that was an added bonus I wasn't expecting. There were a few grammatical errors & wrong words in certain places that kinda took me out of the story a few times, but not enough that I couldn't finish it. All in all, it was a good read, & I'm looking forward to the next one in the series!

A Sweet Second Chance Romance

This was that book that at times seemed to drag out certain outcomes, but at the same time it made the emotion of the situation stronger. And I liked Lacey and Graham - even if I felt there were some unanswered parts to their story. And the ending seemed almost too perfectly wrapped up, but I still wanted to keep reading. Looking forward to the next book.

It's gorgeous, but very core concept

Spoiler
Spoiler
Spoiler

The core plot of the book involves infant mortality.
It deals with stillbirth / late-term miscarriage in a really sensitive way, but it's still a bit of a gut punch in the middle of a series that is typically more fond of a banter and dick joke.
Fantastic book, but maybe not one to read on the bus unless you want to end up at your destination with panda face.

This book is another winner in the Bardstown series, with lots of steamy scenes, hilarious banter, and even some updates on Beckham and Hadley. It can definitely be read as a stand-alone, but who wouldn't want to know each of the Fox brothers' stories?
This second-chance romance had me in alllll the feels! Graham Fox definitely hits the mark as a hot, tattoo artist who rekindles his relationship with a woman from his past. She's keeping something big from him, something that will either make or break them. I loved Lacey's fiery sweet personality, and this made for a hot romance between she and Graham. Can't wait for the next Fox Brother!

I'm trying to come up with words to describe this book without giving away and leaving spoilers. This book made me cry. The heroine's decision to such a good guy was heartbreaking, followed by the devastating things that happened to her once she left. Graham is such a nice guy. The characters were very relatable. This book broke my heart and put it back together by the end of it.

The heartache and pain of real life circumstances will take you on and emotional ride that will have you needing tissues so be prepared!
