Rate this book
GraphicAudio introduces a spectacular original Super-heroic Action Series available in no other format!

In the year 2046, on the artificial-island arcology of New Avalon, Corazón “Cory” Kagami is a bright but impulsive college student who follows her passions, resisting the will of her mother, Morgan Herrera, head of a tech conglomerate responsible for astonishing breakthroughs. Morgan controls Catchfire Industries, and is effectively the ruler of New Avalon through her near-monopoly of its technology and through the numerous government officials she keeps in her pocket.

In a world where communication with parallel Tangent Earths has brought a disruptive influx of new beliefs and scientific innovation, Morgan promotes a strong defense against threats from within and beyond this world, developing advanced personal armor and weaponry for her cyborg peacekeeping team Fireforce.

When Cory is accidentally empowered with the most advanced armor system yet, Morgan tries to renew her bond with her daughter and train her to be a hero, a decision she may come to regret. Cory Kagami, a fan of Japanese tokusatsu action entertainment, has her own ideas about what it means to be a hero.

Here's what I like:
A fun, unique story line in a futuristic world with unique bad guys, cunning corporate villains, and good guys with cool weapons.

A likeable, although quirky and kiddish, main character/heroine. Sometimes her quirks go to the point of unrealistic, but there is a sort of hopeful, naive charm to her heroic aspirations. She has this Power Rangers style attitude with the anime style armor/weapons introductions.

A ethnically diverse cast of characters. The main character is Half Latina (Mom)/Half-Asian (Dad), the secret villainess is Latina (unknown from what Hispanic country but probably Mexico) other main cast characters range from black Jamaican female, white English male, Latino male, African American female (with some unknown physical entity inside her) etc. You don't often see a Half Asian/Half Latina/Latino hero. It's a very rare ethnic background for a hero/heroine which brought a sort of uniqueness to the story.

Here's what I don't like:
The SJW/Woke content. In Part 2 one of the main characters is concerned about using the right pronoun for a spirit being; you're concerned about an unknown living conscious spirt pronouns? The heroine literally addresses this same being with, "Hi! I'm Cory Kagami! My pronouns are she/her". Seriously? I cannot take anyone seriously when they use pronouns in their bio or start an introduction off with pronouns. Who cares?

However, while I think this weird emphasis on pronouns are childish, silly, and irrelevant, they're not harmful. What is harmful is when the main character Caprice is combat training with this unknown spirit says that she is descended from a man who was a police officer that ended "systemic racism in the police, and made it a force for all". This is where I just shook my head. Police across the United States are NOT racist bigots just looking to arbitrarily detain, arrest, and abuse minorities. This untrue insinuation that modern police are systematically racist is not simply false, it's also harmful, because it sows distrust in minority groups in their public safety institutions.

So, what's my final grade?
I think the story was cool with great potential. Sometimes, the comic book style antics of the heroine, and exaggerations of emotions from other main cast characters, get excessive, and that does detract from the story. I liked how the story was able to successfully hide until the right moment who are actually the heroes, and who are actually the villains, but won't say more on that as I don't want to spoil anything. The weapons and armor systems are Power Ranger like, so obviously any 90's kid like me is going to like that lol. The ethnic diversity of the characters is great, because heroes in our stories should reflect all of us, not some of us. However, the SJW/Woke content detracted from the quality of the story, and how seriously I could take it. Still, the story is fun and exciting, with plenty of bad guy vs good guy fights and cool attack moves with 90's style battle intros.
My final grade I give is 3.5 out of 5 stars.

This has a bit of everything. It's sci-fi futuristic with monsters from a parallel universe, special suites and superpowers and a villain-like absolute ruler that happens to be the bubbly hero's mom. It ends in a cliffy sort of. I plan to check out the next installment.

I had received this book through the now defunct audiobook sync program for summer reading. It certainly gave an eclectic mix of reading material. The book cover is a little weird for this particular book. However, the book itself was actually rather enjoyable. It's definitely a young young adult or maybe A. Tween. It is a young woman who doesn't have a father and her mother works all the time so she lives with another friend. It seems maybe she comes from a Spanish background but seems to live around people with an Asian background. She loves japanimation. So in her young life, she kind of sees the world through the leads of these japaname movies. The world is attacked by these creatures and there are factions of fighters to protect the city. Maybe the world. This young woman ends up accidentally taking on a nano technology suit and learning a lot about her life where she comes from, and what her mother has been up to . I probably would read another in this series if given the opportunity.

A wonderful performance by the talented voice actors at Graphic Audio http://graphicaudio.net

A multi-universe filled by sentient creatures, cyborgs, a multi-universe peacekeeping force, and a power hungry industrialist combined to make a sci-fi / MANGA action thriller.

If you want a rock’m sock’m rollicking good time with action heroes, nano-tech armor, and some great fight scenes, you’ll love The Tangent Knight series. Caprice aka Cory is a blast. She’s perky, peppy, and much too enthusiastic when she gains her nano-tech armor. In other words, she’s the epitome of a Japanese action hero.

I laughed, gasped, and chuckled over this one.

It's been a long time since I've read a novel I've enjoyed as much as I enjoyed this. I knew nothing on this novel except that Graphic Audio produced it. They did amazing. Amazing voices and sound and storyline. It's not some super deep novel and I feel like it makes fun of many genres in this type, but overall I enjoyed tremendously. Great story, great fun, no sex and language. Highly recommended. I'm going to check out more of Bennett's stuff, he has another GA production, so I'm in and hoping for the best. Can't wait for Book 2 of this series.

This was my first experience with a Graphic Audio book. There was music, sound effects, and different narrators that read each roll. It was a pretty awesome experience. One thing I particularly liked was the different narrators for each distinct part. It made it so easy to follow and keep on track with what was going on and who was talking.

The story was pretty good. I'm not big into graphic novels, but this was a pretty good one. Good character representations. And solid messages of being true to oneself and doing the right thing.

What really made this great were all the narrators!

Super fun action romp with a ton of callouts (calls out?) to Japanese action shows. The main character Cory's only real flaws seem to be her inability to keep a schedule (at the beginning she is late for basically everything, work, classes, appointments), and her boundless enthusiasm for everything she does or encounters.

My favorite character was Daniel aka Tempest who (like a Far Side igloo) has a hard exterior but a mushy center. I especially enjoyed when the characters interacted with each other, and when Cory was learning to use her new powers.

Sync Audiobook for Teens

It was amusing enough, I guess. The overall storyline is decent (although it does end on a quasi-cliffhanger). It took me quite a while to get used to the dramatic format. And honestly, I zoned out in just about every fight scene (there were a lot of them) because I just couldn't follow them. And it got a bit 'preachy' at times with the whole good over evil thing. It was entertaining enough to amuse me on my walks, but I will no seek out any more in the series.

Not for me. I think younger people (middle grades?) might like this one, but it was all action and no subtlety, so I didn't care much. Every time the protagonist did something "right," there was a blatantly stated "lesson" to be learned from that moment. Nothing seemed really original, so I won't be doing the next in this series.

The idea behind the tech in this future world is really cool. I enjoyed the attempts at explaining the physics behind it. (I tried to keep up.) Unfortunately, the characters were really flat and some were downright caricatures. And things seemed to "just happen" in unnaturally quick timelines.

Fun and over-the-top MC. part sci-fi, part Power Rangers, part Sailor Moon. A good mix of characters and a good story line…

This was an interesting read, and a cool sci-fi story.  I liked the main character and her impulsivity.  She was pretty cool.  I found the storyline pretty interesting, and I was satisfied with the way that the story ended.  I don't think I will continue with the series.
