Memory Guild #0.5

A Ghostly Touch

Rate this book
Ghosts always want something.

It's just an antique box iron. But when I touch it, I'm thrust into the memories of the woman who was murdered while using the iron. A woman from another century. You see, I'm a psychometrist. I experience people's thoughts and emotions from the objects they've touched. My ability gave me entrance to one of the supernatural guilds in the nation's oldest city. But it can be a very unsettling ability. Especially since it has attracted the ghost of the murdered woman. Look, I have a historic inn to run. I don't have time for ghosts. But ghosts don't care. They always want something. And this one wants me to solve the mystery of her murder.

A mystery on days gone by and a current unknown mysterious insight. Murder and mayhem. Darla is helping her mom with her antique store when she comes across this antique iron. Once she touches it she feels that it was used in a crime. Now she must find out when who and why. Twists and turns within this novelette. A very relaxed and comfortable read.

Ok right off the bet I have to say I want that ticket to the Memory Guild Midlife Paranormal Mysteries. I have read other novels by Ward Parker and I find him to be a gifted and talented author. I really like how the novel followed a psychometrist. I have some talent in clairvoyance and I am clearly an empath, making this novel uniquely interesting to me. Ward has a way of crafting his story, masterfully interwoven with progressive world building, action, and delving deeply into his characters persona without overdoing one thing or another. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the book.

This was a bit disjointed. I didn’t even realize until I was halfway through, that it was about a woman, and a middle aged one at that….

It feels like the author started writing without any direction and only as the story unfolded did the characters flesh out and gain personalities and identities.

I really enjoyed this introduction, although it is sad how things start out. I can relate to starting over and having family to deal with. Wow- does she have lots to juggle at this stage in life.
Throw in a new psychic ability... as well as her new lifestyle.
I am diving right into the next book!

This was a good mystery story that started as a mystery from generations past but became a mystery in the present as well. It was a good read and I would read more of the series.
