Hundreds of illustrations including color charts and plates of period hairstyles supplement information on designing and applying theatrical makeup, stippling, and quick changes.
This book was so good I stole it from the library! For years I was torn between my joy at owning this amazing tome and the guilt I felt for commiting such larceny! If you have any interest in special effects make-up, this is a must read.
Of all the stage make up artistry books and "how-tos" I have read, this book is by far the best. Richard Corson does a fantastic job demonstrating different makeup trends ranging from the production of "Cats" to "Phantom of the Opera." He also elaborates on the many different processes for aging makeup and and the use of prosthetic. I (unfortunately) had to self-teach myself many tricks of the trade by using this book as my guide, and was able to get free-lance gigs due to the knowledge I gained from Richard Corson.
Whether you are a practiced, experienced actor or just beginning, this is an excellent and tried and true mainstay. It is practical and easy to follow and full of wonderful ideas which can be used as instructed or adapted with personal touches and practice. I have it always handy on my ready-to-use shelf.
Got it as a gift from the Makeup Designer on Seussical. What a great gift! It's complete and wonderfully written. I wish that there were more color photos, however.
