Sweet and Steamy!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜💛
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌏
Character development: ☺️😟😍😁🥰

The heroine: Lilly - she is a college cheerleader, but not by choice. Lilly’s overbearing mother forced her into it at a young age and she has never really been allowed to make her own decisions.

The Hero(s): Roman - A science nerd. He is focused on school. Roman has lived at home and helped his Mom out with his younger brother Alex and elderly great aunt Myrtle. He has never really had time for girls or relationships since he has to focus on his studies.

The Story: Lilly and Roman meet as freshmen in college. They are both attending a party and neither of them wants to be there. They end up talking for hours and liking each other though they don’t meet again until they are seniors.

I’m not quite sure why this one is titled Jock Romeo, since Rome isn’t a jock. Though at one point it mentions he plays tennis, though it doesn’t specify if that is on the college tennis team or just for fun. Though Lilly is definitely the Jock in this book. She is on the Cheerleading squad for the Football team and it seems like quite a lot of practice and hard work.

This book had all the humor and steam of all of Sara Ney’s other books but was much sweeter and cuter than any I have read before. With Roman not being an experienced player like many of the other Hero’s in the Sports Romance genre. I really liked the fact that both of these characters have their own issues with self doubt and I really enjoyed the romance in this book.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

This one was super cute. I loved both Roman and Lilly and Roman’s family was such a hoot- especially his aunt Myrtle. I liked that Lilly was the athlete, not Roman. Roman is much more of an academia and not her normal type at all, but this fake dating/friends to lovers romance worked so well. I’m sad this series is over, but glad it ended on a high note for me.

Overall Opinion: I struggled with finishing this tbh. The characters were meh, I didn’t connect to either of them, I also didn’t feel their connection to each other past friends, and the ending sucked. I loved the premise! The nerdy guy that grows to be a hottie is totally my jam…it’s just that the story didn’t quite work out the way I hoped it would. I thought the h was too pushy and the H was too much of a pushover (😅). The side characters were funny, but they seemed to become a little too silly where it felt forced. Seems this author really is hit or miss for me.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Lilly and Roman’s story. They meet the night before freshman year at a party where they both aren’t thrilled to be there but hiding out. While they connected and were instantly friendly, they didn’t see each other until a few years later when Roman moves in with Lilly’s friend and ex roommate. They start up their friendship but soon realize that they could use the other in a fake relationship — Lilly to get her ex to go away, and Roman to get his mom off his back. There are some sweet moments, some funny side characters, and a few sexy times…and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Lilly and Roman’s POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Alright. It felt slow at some parts, but I never skimmed.

Instalove: Kind of, because it seems to come out of nowhere for me.

H (Hero) rating: 3 stars. Roman. I thought he was just alright. I wanted him to be more assertive/confident.

h (heroine) rating: 3 stars. Lilly. She was just alright too. I thought she was actually kind of too pushy at times.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Alright. They have some tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not very many scenes and not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Not really

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Not technically, since they aren’t “together”

Possible Triggers: No

Closure: This ends with little closure and what I would call a HFN ending

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

Typical romance from Sara Ney with beautiful (normal) heroine and shy Hero with a body of Sylvester Stallone. 🧐

Nerdy, almost virgin Hero (I'm 99% sure the guy was a virgin, but it wasn't admitted anywhere in the book) is a recurring type of character in Sara's books, and the heroine needs to do all the heavy lifting to get the guy...

Still, it was better than some of the previous Jock Hards, so I'll go with "slightly better than average" rating.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5)
Trope: opposites attract
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥
Triggers: none

Roman Whitaker isn't known for being a smooth Romeo. He always feels self-conscious around girls - especially a super beautiful and outgoing college cheerleader like Lilly Howard. Ironically, Lilly feels a little intimidated by how smart Roman is. When the two meet, they just clicked and instantly become friends, but they both agree to become each other's fake significant other, messy real feelings start to get involved.

This was really a cute romcom with some hysterical laugh out loud moments. It was a super slow burn with two people who were super attracted to each other and who had lots of chemistry, but they were both intimidated by the other. The story was a little slow in the beginning, but overall, a really enjoyable read with some fantastic characters. A great addition to the series!

Jock Romeo is the 6th book in the Jock Hard series by Sara Ney. I can be read as a standalone, but best enjoyed in series order. The story is told in first person, dual POV.

3,5 stars.
Slightly better than Jock Reign and that's because I loved Roman's family so much. Especially Aunt Myrtle.

"I went out with a rugby player once," Aunt Myrtle is saying from her side of the table, "Worst lay of my life."
Mrs. Whitaker groans.
"I'm not kidding. He had a glorious shaft but didn't know where to stick it, if you catch my drift." She blinks twice, but I'm convinced she's trying to wink. "That man shoved it in the wrong hole so many times I started to get a complex." She delivers the line without so much as flinching. "Gives new meaning to the phrase butt hurt."

Apparently to the phrase "table manners" as well.

As to the story itself, I liked how sweet their relationship was, how they felt comfortable around each other before they became intimate but, there was no depth there. I expected them to influence each other and try to change, at least I expected a confrontation with Lilly's mom, and Lilly taking active control of her life...

I don't know, but I feel there is a big part of this story missing or the author kept things only on the surface not daring to go deep.

I hope there won't be any books in this series and the disappointment will end here.

Perfectly awkward and sweet and just adorable. This book was a full depiction of college life. Roman was a nerd, yes, but he was so socially awkward it was endearing. Lilly has had enough of guys treating her badly, she just wants a good guy. Rome doesn’t do hook ups and hasn’t had time for any romantic relationship, he’s too busy studying to go to parties. Lilly and Rome strike up a friendship that slowly starts to become more, but if he can’t get out of his own head, he just might be alone forever.

Aunt Myrtle is the clear winner of this story. Also, Sunday dinner is a staple around my house and my husband and I are still carrying on the tradition from our grandmothers. I hope I’m Myrtle one day.

I loved how this book was real. This is real life. Messy, sloppy, fun and awkward. I didn’t feel as strong of an emotional connection to the characters as I was hoping to, but I still smiled my way through the whole book, which I read in one sitting, by the way.

Not a jock Romeo

I love that in this book Roman is not a jock, but Lilly is. He is a science and engineering nerd and she is on the cheerleading team for their college. It's a cute story of friends to lovers.I

I really like Roman's family. They are quirky and make for great secondary characters.

I am once again jumping in the middle of a series. Hello? Book 6 here. Don't worry though. Not a problem. I loved Rome and Lilly. I liked Rome's roommates, Eliza and Jack - and now I want to read their story. I was laughing out loud in some spots. Aunt Myrtle had me cackling. All in all, a really entertaining story :)

This book would have been so good had it not been so flipping boring and slow in the beginning. Half the book was inner monologue that served no purpose than to bore me. I skimmed over a majority of this book.

Regardless, Lilly and Roman were cute, I just wish I actually got more of their relationship.

This was so great. Like I was enjoying the story so much that I was bummed when I saw I was almost finished. Roman and Lilly are cute together. They both have insecurities, I like that, makes them more real and relatable. They're sweet to each other and kind of easily transition to a couple. And this was so funny! I highlighted a ton, especially his aunt. She's a hoot! Dirty old lady with no filter and wild style. Plus, yay! We get more Jack and Eliza, which is great because I wasn't done with them. Now we just need ongoing stories about these four and all their adventures into adulthood and their relationships. I'd read it.

It pains me to write this but this was not my favorite. I'm not sure what is going on but I just couldn't connect to MC's; well maybe I could to Roman. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm getting older and something is flying over my head and the problems that 20 something kids are having don't seem to be that big to me...I don't know.

This was not all bad - it had a few scenes where I did LOLed. I liked Lilly sticking up for herself against her ex. Roman was a cute mess. His lack of socializing made him more direct and I found that refreshing.

Like said I'm not sure why but this one gets 3*.

Sexy Sweet Friends to Lovers

Roman and Lilly prove that stereotypes don’t mean a thing as the handsome nerd and the bubbly cheerleader find love together.

They’re so adorably awkward together as they become friends and learn to be there for each other. It’s a slow burn as they can’t believe the other person would actually be attracted to them.

This is a low angst, college sweetheart of a read and very enjoyable!

Okay, I loved the prologue and how we didn’t get back to these two right away when the book started on chapter one. Normally that would drive me crazy, but it was perfect for this book! And then the way these characters were connected to the last book was fun as well. I love how this author intertwines all the characters so perfectly!

Now I started this on the day that Amazon and Goodreads were down for most of the day. So I didn’t get as many notes taken as I normally would. But one thing I loved at the beginning of the story was the reference to the 80s movie where the parents took their kid up to the high school dance and wouldn’t let him out and he was banging on the door saying he just wanted to go home and hang out with them. I always loved that little bit in the movie Sixteen Candles.

Strangely I related to Lilly in several ways, even though she was a cheerleader and I am sooooooo not at all like a cheerleader. The way she said she wouldn’t probably know a guy was into her unless he actually told her he was. That’s me. I’m pretty sure I might have missed out on some possible dates by not realizing a guy was into me. Then the things her inner voice would say to her during makeout sessions with Roman, yeah, those are the types of things that might run though my mind. lol

This book really reminded me of what was my first introduction to Sara Ney’s stories, The Learning Hours, the 3rd book in the How to Date a Douchebag series. That book was about a guy that was ugly. And the way she made a real story out of it. A guy not being just the perfect handsome, suave guy. Well, Roman, or Rome, was cute, in a nerdy sort of way. But he was so inexperienced and really shy and awkward. More-so than probably any guy in any book I’ve ever read. It was perfect! And then, when the whole thing got really physical and real, I didn’t see a certain part coming, at least not that fast! Lol. This author is not afraid to put in some real stuff. Some real embarrassing and just so good stuff!

I also loved Rome’s family. The great-aunt reminded me so much of one of the geriatric characters that I love in books by another favorite author, Emma Hart. And that little brother, so funny! Actually kind of reminded me of the little brother in another favorite 80s movie, Can’t Buy Me Love. I ended this book smiling so much. There wasn’t drama just for drama’s sake, all of the problems and complications they had just felt so real. I actually kind of wondered though if something else was going to happen with her ex that didn’t end up happening. And I’m okay with that. Because really, this story was perfect! Love, love, loved it!

Jock ROMEO may just be my favourite of this series!.

The sweetest slow burn with all kinds of adorably awkward moments and a genuine friendship that blossoms into so much more.

I am a fan of friends to lovers. Regardless of if they've been friends for years or just a short time. There is something so special in seeing the growth and development in their connection and the moment the chemistry just becomes overwhelmingly undeniable.

Lilly is a cheerleader with all the stereotypical things that come along with it. She's blonde, beautiful and grew up with an overbearing mother who expected greatness from her daughter Regardless of if that was what she wanted. She date's the jocks, she's sweet and unfortunately she gets her heart broken by the hot guy.

Roman aka Romeo aka Rome. Ahh. I just Ioved this adorably awkward sweet innocent soul. He's a nerdy hottie who spent years across the pond bettering his future only to come back and find himself living with his family. So he moves out only to bump into the hot cheerleader who was kind to him the one and only time he when to a frat party as a freshman.

These two gave me all the flutterflies. Romes inability to not over think and be awkward and Lilly's sweet confidence and genuine kindness honestly worked so well together. Rome lacked confidence in himself and Lilly lacked confidence in men so together they worked on eachother and with every page blossomed this unique friendship that was convenient to both of them but also it just felt natural despite the awkward tendencies and fumbles.

The chemistry was so freaking good. The innocence in him being there for her and her showing him his worth honestly had me swooning. And the back and forth wanting but not acting on it only served to push tensions higher until they finally made their moves. It really was a sweet journey for them both and I laughed nearly every step of the way. They are freaking adorable and serve all the feel good feelings. And then to top it off you have characters along the way that just enrich the story and had me crying in laughter!!!.
Aunt Myrtle and her antics deserve an award because she's a freaking legend. I lived for the crazy hectic family dynamics.

As a whole this is just a sweet easy read that has all the good feels. No drama/angst. No unnecessary fillers just a good romance with quirky characters that are so relatable and easy to love. The time flew by reading it and I want to do it all over again already!.

So, for starters, this is not like any other book I have read by Sara Ney. It's better. Gone are the typical Jock boys. Gone are the nerdy girls. Imagine that scenario... flipped. Reversed.
In this story we have Roman, typical geeky guy. Into all things science. Your average Sheldon Cooper without all the dramatics. Shy. Reserved. Cute.
Then we have Lilly. Cheerleader. Dates the typical jerky jocks who could really care less about her and more about their sport of choice. After a disaster of a breakup, Lilly swears off men. 🤣 She goes to her BFFs house to cry a little, eat junk food, and do the typical girl gets dumped routine.
In walks Roman. New roomie. Another disaster follows, which has Lilly volunteering to fix the mess, which leads to the best friendship ever. You know the one. Nerd guy. Hot girl. Why do these friendship pairings always work so well? Who knows... but it does.
Add in an auntie that is geriatric and HILARIOUS with zero filter. A meddling family. An annoying younger brother. And friends, you have an excellent romcom.
Myrtle was my FAVORITE side character. Her theatrics had me laughing so hard I literally spit out my drink on a few occasions. Cringed at others. #grandmasforthewin
I loved getting a bit more insight into Jack and Eliza after their story was complete. Seeing the relationships grow between them and their friends. Jock Row series is probably my favorite by Sara Ney, and this one did not disappoint. Hope to see more in this series, and can't wait to see what Ney does next.

Roman and Lilly are so awkwardly cute together and I loved them so much. I started this book the moment it hit my kindle and I could not put it down.

Roman and Lilly had met at a party when they were freshmen. They had bonded over both of them not wanting to be there why they sat upstairs to get away from the party. They then meet 3 years later when Roman is moving in with Jack and Eliza as their roommate. Roman recognizes her right away but it takes Lilly a second since Roman has changed so much from that night. But the friendship they shared that one night is reignited and we get the angst that builds into something so sweet.

Roman is absolutely adorable and I want to wrap him up and take him home. He’s shy, sweet, a little awkward and amazing. I loved the little glimpse that we got of him “Jock Reign” and I’m so glad his story was next. Lilly is fun, energetic and has a heart of gold. She was such a positive breath of fresh air that Roman needed in his life. They balance each other out so well. And Aunt Myrtle? She had me laughing so hard whenever she was in a chapter. I want to be like her when I grow up.

Roman is this incredibly amazing human who is nerdy and at times awkward. he is so smart yet at times he can get in his head too much. Roman has goals he wants to accomplish and he helps his family out in anyway he can but lately he realizes it’s time to fly the coop. Lilly is this gorgeous woman who is a cheerleader yet she never flaunts herself as if she is better than anyone. She makes friends easily and is super nice to everyone. She also has goals but getting away from her mother’s pressure is a major one. These two meet for the first time their freshmen year and instantly strike up a conversation then they both walk away not seeing each other until years later. These two are complete opposites yet they work and they build a friendship based on respect. Sometimes the best relationships start as friendships that are built as nicely as there’s. This story was such a cute and fun read. The characters are amazing, sweet, and Aunt Myrtle always livened up the party. Roman was a favorite of mine because he is shy, smart, handsome, and so respectful. Another great read in this amazing series that will have you falling in love with the characters, story, and never wanting it to end.

“His lips felt like my mouth belonged there.”

Jock Romeo was a sweet, friends to lovers story. Roman and Lily had a brief connection at a party their freshman year of college and then don’t see each other for years. They form a friendship when Roman moves in with Lily’s best friend.

Roman is adorably awkward and the definition of a hot nerd. He’s an absolute sweetheart who doesn’t really know how to read girls well. His family is fantastic and over the top. They will have you laughing out loud.

Lilly is a cheerleader who is a bit awkward herself. She’s peppy and cheerful and determined to befriend Roman. She’s beautiful but she wants someone who values her for more than her looks. She wants someone to see underneath the surface to the real her.

Both Roman and Lilly have insecurities that they need to overcome. They also have to work on communicating their feelings and verbalizing their wants. Together they are able to grow and start to break free from their shells. This lighthearted, slow-burn romance is low-angst and so much fun.

Lilly gets her HEA!

Cheerleader Lilly Howard was taking a break from dating the second time she met Roman Whitaker because she was tired of being taken for granted because she deserved more. But becoming friends with Roman Whitaker helped her to realize that there was more to Roman than most other guys in college.

Roman Whitaker was a geek and rarely dated but everything changed when he asked Lilly to pretend to date him so his family would quit trying to give him advise especially his aunt Myrtle (she is worth the entire book because you never know what to expect from her).

I liked the entire series but especially that Lilly figured out what she wanted in life.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author and Wildfire Marketing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

5 star review of Jock Romeo (Jock Hard #6) by Sara Ney
Jock Romeo was just the book I needed to read this week. From the first chapter I was hooked on the story that Sara Ney wove about Roman (Rome) Whitaker and Lilly Howard.
This is a friends to lovers story that ticked all the boxes for me. The characters were easy to relate to and engaging. Their friendship was genuine and they were all in all people I would happily call friends.
This was a sweet, college story of two people who find one another and have a connection that is hard to break. The secondary characters, particularly Aunt Myrtle were entertaining and I loved her.
All in all an entertaining book that gave me a much needed pick me up and left me with a smile on my face.

Another great addition to the Jock Hard Series.
This is Roman (Rome) Whitaker and Lilly Howard’s friends to lovers romance and it’s the perfect book to escape with, it’s a book that ticked all my boxes and I’m sure it will tick yours to,
I fell hard and fast for Rome, he is everything you love in a man, kind, sweet, compassionate and a bit nerdy and he is the son that takes care of the family even his quirky Aunt Myrte who by the way added another depth to this fantastic read.
Lilly is the girl that we would all love in our corner, she makes you laugh and her friendship with Rome has a bond no one will break but what happens when friendship turns to love……
Jock Romeo is an entertaining read that left me smiling like a Cheshire Cat.

Sara has once again given us a wonderfully sweet, awkward but lovable college romance the Jock Hard series. Let's get acquainted with Roman and Lily. You are going to love them.
They met as freshman at a college party that neither one wanted to be at, so they ended up talking to one another. They parted ways and never ran into each other again. Let's flash forward a few years and they once again cross paths as Rome is now roommates with Lily's friends.
I just loved this couple. Roman is awkward, unsure, and brilliant while Lily is outgoing, spontaneous and just so funny. They were sweet, caring, had me laughing out loud, swooning and cheering for this slow burn couple the entire way!

ROMAN!! Oh my god! I can't even take how much I loved that guy.
He's sweet, polite, compassionate, smart, nerdy and he takes care of his family.
This guy is going to be right up there on my top book boyfriends.

I love Lilly and how she can appreciate all that Roman has to offer. It's sort of like we saw her grow through this story. She had lightbulbs going off all over the place about how to change the trajectory of her life and the poor relationships that she had. She has boatloads of tolerance too.

And listen... If you like crazy side characters, look no further than Aunt Myrtle. OMG, I was laughing OUT loud and her shenanigans.

Jock Romeo is the final book in the Jock Hard series and I’m going to miss it. I really loved Roman and Lily and the friendship they built. Roman is tall lanky and awkward when he and Lily first meet. Lily’s the total opposite; attractive, charismatic and outgoing. It would seem they wouldn’t mix. But that theory is thwarted when they hide out together at a party falling into easy conversation. Fast forward, they meet again and form a bond. Then decide to help each other out in the love department. Basically, a fake relationship. But will their plan ruin their friendship? Or will it unlock feelings they’ve been dancing around? I devoured this book in a span of a few hours I was hooked from the very first few pages. The connections the characters, the storyline and everything was just perfect. This book is so dang adorable. This a fake relationship, college life, nerd gets pretty girl. Roman is the sweet nerdy but awkwardly shy boy. Lilly is the outgoing people pleaser, and sick of boys treating her like crap as well as her parent. The chemistry between them was perfect. Roman is swoon worthy for sure.
I really enjoyed aunt Myrtle, she made me laugh so much.

Sweet, sexy, sassy with an extra helping of funny!

Sara Ney killed it with this story. She had me smiling all throughout this book. Lilly and Roman make the best couple. They both are clear about who they are but also are on a journey of self discovery, trying to create the life they want to live as adults. Duh since they are both in college this only makes sense.

They have crazy parents aka families who have their own issues. OMG the great aunt had me rolling with laughter. No body was the villain but they just were there imperfect selves that Lilly and Roman just accepted.

Eek I want to say more but I am not going too except Happy Reading Everyone! XOXO
