Song of Night is book two in the best-selling epic fantasy series The Dying Lands Chronicle. The veil has been torn. The ancient dark has risen. Dark harmonies echo throughout the world. But the ancient Axioms of Light have been spoken once again. In the midst of the Dark's swelling tide, Reign Kerr has emerged with the mythical power of the Ancients, a power she wielded to defeat the brutal Borathein invasion. Reign must now discover the keys to the Gates of Confluence if the world has any hope of salvation - a journey that will unearth heretical secrets and change her in ways she may not be strong enough to survive. Hedron struggles to rebuild Arlethia and solidify his rule in the aftermath of the Borathein invasion, but new threats arise from within and push allegiances to the brink. A subtle darkness stirs within him as he is called upon to look beyond his own people's welfare, threatening to overwhelm him and put those he strives to lead in mortal danger. Call forth the Heralds. Gather the Witnesses. Let the Blood of Creation again flow.

I'm Jacob Cooper. I write epic fantasy, and, when my wife can convince me, paranormal romance. We team write The Summer Omega Series.

Currently, I'm working on the Dying Lands Chronicle. Altar of Influence (prelude), Circle of Reign (book 1), Song of Night (book 2) and The Vanishing (a short story) are widely available. Book 3, BLADES OF ORWIAN, is underway. I was super stoked to wake up one day in 2015 to find Circle of Reign at #1 on Amazon and Audible in the Epic Fantasy and Sci-fi/Fantasy genres. Later that year, it won Gold for Best Fantasy in the international 2015 IPPY Awards. So there's that, I guess.

I hope one day that writing will become my full time gig, but raising 5 kids takes most of my time. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Aside from all that, you can probably find me at a piano or behind a drum set, possibly in the desert on an ATV, probably in Lake Powell, and maybe at the gym, trying to keep up with the younger athletes. I'm sure someday I'll realize I grew up a while ago.

Thanks for hanging out on my author page. Drop me a line on social media. We'll hang.

Song of night by Jacob Cooper is the second main book in the series. There are shorter works as well, which I enjoyed.

I've definitely left it too long between books.
That's wholly on me, as I usually remember books really well, so don't mind a few years gap between books.
Here I had a hard time getting back into the story, even though I really breezed through Circle of Reign and the novella.

There's even a whole "what happened so far" section at the start, but I still didn't really settle back into this world until about the halfway mark. I didn't detract any stars for this, as it's not the books fault, but my actual enjoyment was more around 3,5 stars.

I still adore the world building, the magic, the lore, and the twists and turns! I just lost the connection to the characters somewhat.

As the author of this unreleased book, I don't really get how there are ratings and review of it already, but all good. MAJOR UPDATE 5/19/21: SONG OF NIGHT is scheduled for an August/September release date. The editing is 80% complete. After that, I'll hack at it for a few weeks and then send it off to the publishers. Thank you all for your incredible patience. I'm also rarely on GR, so forgive my seldom interaction here. Please feel free to follow me on Facebook, where I interact regularly.

And by the way, the wait will have been worth it. Promise :)

Great magic system. Clear and present danger all through the book. I was at war on so many fronts. I have had only a few writers that I understand the worlds that they built have so many layers, but Jacob Cooper drizzles layer on top of layers, until all the components good or bad become cogs in the world machine he has created. I was up on my feet several times, trying to give my strength to some of the most important (to me) characters. Good read, makes me truly understand loyalty. Thanks Jacob

solid book. I felt book 1 and the prequel were better, but looking forward to the story continuing.
