Oh lordy how do I write a review for this without giving too much away. I was lucky and happened to be a beta reader for this book. This was so much fun, I would love to do it again.
Lets start off with a spoiler Now that I got that off my chest here we go.

Contagious ended with dear Hayden getting shot. It was awful and I was terribly worried that he was going to die. I will note how much I hate books ending with huge cliffhangers like that. It is not necessary to leave us hanging like this just to get us to read the next book.

Anyway back to Deathly Contagious
This book was not as fast paced as the first book, but that isnt a bad thing. This book filled in a lot of holes. The author was worried about that being just a filler book, and while I feel that yes it is a filler, it is also necessary and written so well that we are not bored with it. Relationships expand, questions are answered, and we fall more in love with the characters. I feel attatched to these characters and love all of them. That is talent. Any author can make you hate characters, it takes real talent for an author to make you love them.

Orissa must go off on a mission without her beloved Hayden. She is heartbroken. The mission is to gather medical supplies that the compound needs. The flu is slowly making its rounds and Padraic is swamped. Working with a team that she has never worked with is hard enough, but being without Hayden is doubly hard. Orissa being the bad ass she is, puts hers life on the line to save the others. She told them to wait 20 minutes for her and if she wasnt back to leave. Alex being a big douch bag, didnt wait for her and they left her there to fend for herself.

Suffering from blood poisoning she happens to stagger onto the porch of a house with living people inside. They take her into their home and care for her. She is extremely sick but even she notices that something is off about this 'giving' familiy. The helpful family turns out to be of the 'repopulate the earth club', and think it is their duty to impregnate every woman they see by force if necessary. After days of recuperation and some clever upchuck reflexes, Orissa manages to excape with another unwilling woman, Olivia, who was also being held against her will.

After a very eventful trip, they manage to make it back to the safety of the compound. I am going to skip ahead a bit since I dont want to give too much away.

Orissa ends up going out on yet another mission where they have to deal with not only zombies, but tornados, and unexplained deadlands where a bomb seems to have went off. This bothers them and to Orissa it still feels like Fuller is hiding something from everyone. The stumble upon the site of a real quarantine that was unfortunately overun by zombies. They also come upon some greenhouses that are being used and maintained by someone, but they cant find anyone around. They gather some fresh fruit and boxes of seeds to take back to the compound. On the way home they find a rather large group of survivors who are struggling to survive and take them back to the compound with them.

After returning to the compound tragedy strikes, and battle and chaos ensues. A while later Orissa's team sets out on a search and rescue mission while also advised to take out any herds they might run into and take note of the state the world is in. They come upon a prison and realize very soon that these are also they guys who shot Hayden. They thought they had taken them all out but they were wrong. Deciding as a team to take revenge for them shooting Hayden they approach the prison unnoticed, or so they think. The book ends with a possible kidnapping and a possible death. We will have to wait till the next book comes out to find out what happens next.

This book was great! I loved every minute of it, and I can't wait to read the next one.

Unfortunately, this one did not improve on the first. The story remained the same, get chased by zombies, kill zombies, rinse, repeat 50 times... There was no forward movement at all in the plot. There were many typos and errors in word usage which made the going difficult. That will be the last one by this author that I try.

"You have two choices: You can focus on the things that break your heart, or you can focus on the things that keep it together. No matter what, it’s up to you"

Wtf! I think the author Emily Goodwin is trying to give me a heart attack. This book starts off with a f*cking bang especially coming from that crazy ending from book one. I'm not gonna lie. My heart rate did speed up and I had a lot of oh sh!t moments. This book is really good and I enjoyed it a lot. Lots of twist and turns. I don't wanna reveal spoilers but it's cray cray at times but in a really good way.
Now about Orissa, I do think she might be a ill too G.I. Jane meaning she kinda just knows how to do everything. Which I can understand might turn off some people. Personally, I still think she's pretty awesome and can so see us being homies. lol.
I do need to add a detail that I noticed from the first book and it happen again in the second book. In no way did it effect my rating. My bf use to drive semi trucks and due health reasons he can't anymore. But I did learn a lot about 18 wheelers and even got to ride with him. It's almost impossible to verbally tell someone how to drive one. It takes weeks/months of training. When I saw that come up twice. I did cringed but I just had to believe that it was possible. Cause anything is possible, right? even zombies. lol.
Deathly Contagious is defiantly a book I would highly recommend to any zombie fan.

Orissa’s so badass!

Orissa and Hayden’s team gets into, more than a few, troubling situations and it’s bloody good! I’m so lucky the third book is available and I don’t have to wait for it to be released because the cliff hanger at the end would have put me in a terrible mood.

I had the wonderful opportunity to be a beta reader for this book. Let me tell you it is a great read. Fast paced full of action. There is a little bit of everything in it for everyone! There is no way I can write a full synopsis of the plot without giving away spoilers so I will just get to the good/bad part of my review.
The Good:
Orissa grows and matures a great deal in this book. She is still hard headed and kick butt but she is learning to pick her battles.
We get tons of new background on alot of characters. We learn more about almost every character in the first book. I felt like I knew the characters after the first book. Now I know that we still have a lot to learn.
I love the foreshadowing parts I can feel it leading up to a big reveal in book 3.
The chemistry between the characters is great.
We get to see the characters stomping zombie butt, rescuing new additions to the bunker, and we get to see them try to live a normal life at 'home'.
There are literally parts that scared the crap out of me. As a long time fan of the horror genre that is hard to do.
The Bad:
It ended way to fast even though it is longer than the first. I just wanna know what happens!!
Ugh the hillbillies! Just read it. I hated them. We are supposed to hate them so they should really be under the good but I have my reasons for putting them here. Not to mention I have to put SOMETHING here.
Having to hold the knowledge that everyone wants to know inside for a month has been torture.
Really this is a great book. It was hard not getting lost in the story and trying to stay focused and give feedback.
Also, . DON'T CLICK ON THAT SPOILER UNTIL YOU ARE DONE WITH CHAPTER 1!!! I AM WARNING YOU!!!

Check out my other book reviews at my blog; The Title Page

Just finished this book and... here is my review.

Like the first one in the trilogy, there are some serious grammatical errors. I've noticed that there is a lot of useless and immature dialogue. Fitting for the characters ages, but not so much worthy of mentioning in the actual book.

Another thing I noticed is that it will have entire chapters dedicated to every little thing that happens, and then have a paragraph explaining the next few days. It gets me thinking "What was the point of explaining all that uneventful stuff?"

One thing I do like is that, while the book is full of adventure, not much that I don't like has happened (at least so far). In most other novels of this sort *SPOILER* the obvious beginning of this book would be Hayden dying. I love that he lived and I love that so far everything has worked out okay. No one ever writes a story about keeping up a quarantine compound, it's always about the protagonist finding a quarantine, and then that being overrun in a short time from then. I like how this book is more about living in a zombie apocalypse than ending one (or ending in one).

I'm not gonna start about the giant cliffhanger endings the author loves so much, everyone else has pretty much expressed their disappointment with that enough for my taste.

Overall... skip it. There are better zombie books out there.

Okay so lets just say that this is like one of my favorite books in the whole entire world!!!! I had the awesome chance to be a beta reader for it and I just couldn't put it down. So much happens. The characters grow so much, you learn new things about them (and you thought you knew them), and there action just about every page. Emily starts off right where book one ended and trust me it's not what your going to expect. More people come to the compound with a weird story on how they got there, and more zombie killing than the first.
If your looking for a good book that will keep you thinking and wanting more this is the series to read! This book will always stay on your mind no matter how much you try to stop :) For a month people have been asking me what is going to happen. It's been hard not to give them all the answers and now they can find out for them self's. I just know that when you read the book you love it just as much as I do!

I actually liked this one quite a bit more than the first one. I loved getting to know the other A1s. I really enjoyed how she handled the family that rescued her. This one has element chaos from blizzards to tornadoes! It kept me often on edge. Although one scene really bothered me after Orissa gets back to camp after her 2 week "mission." It was so unreal! All in all, after a skeptical start, this book fueled a worthy desire to keep reading.

And again I will repeat myself. I hate endings.... I figured out that Emily Goodwin likes to leave her readers begging for more. And I give it to her when I say that she's an amazing writer because she knows just how to create Tension, describe the most amazing fight scenes and the most disgusting Zombies out there. But the thing she does best is always ending her books making sure we will read the next one.

Orissa has come a long way. For having to fend for herself with no one to count to protect her back whilst having to care for six people was not easy. Now, she has an entire shelter full of soldiers that admire her and she knows she can relay on them because they will always have her back. But, that also means she's starting to create bonds. And if people die, those bonds will shake which is something Orissa is trying to avoid, but in a world full of Zombies death is something nobody can prevent.

Her character had evolved so much. She was the "I can fend for myself and don't need anyone else" type of girl and now she's the "i can still fend for myself but i also have people to protect me in case i need it". She has learned that sometimes crying is the best option and that she doesn't have to be strong at all times. She's so strong and she can survive by herself which she is happy to show when she's left off by and idiot who is "the leader" of her team. she meets loads of new crazy "we have to repopulate the world" kind of people and she manages to kick their asses anyway... She's a badass.

“I…used…to…like…Halloween,” she panted. “Me too.” Though, I mostly liked the excuse to wear slutty costumes.

Hayden is who was left hanging in the end of Contagious #1 and who we couldn't be sure it was going to survive. But he did. It's no surprise.... But still he is such an amazing addiction to the main girl making her more human and approachable. Though he's the toughest of them all he care a lot about Orissa and he's willing to go to all lengths to protect her. He's a boy with secrets and with a past that no one seems to know. It was super interesting to be able to know him more deeply in this book.

“I lost everyone, Riss,” he slurred. “Everyone I cared about. And then I met you. I’m…I’m not losing you.”

Her team full of the boys we know and love will learn to be more attached to one another and accept Orissa in. They will all learn a few tricks and get a few scares. And yes there will be deaths, that's inevitable in a Zombie story. But together they make the A-Team look like a bunch of sobbing babies. Really...

“Now there’s something you don’t see every day,” Ivan noted with a smirk. He turned to Brock. “Finally, a girl who will like me for my brains,” he joked.

The Zombies are smarter now. They don't know how that's possible but they seem more organized by protecting each others and teaming up. By gathering supplies for eating later and suddenly they don't die as fast. It's a thrill once a fight breaks and now in Deathly Contagious there is underground fighting, tornado's, hordes and much more.

He reached at me, biting at the air. He had no teeth left. “You give ‘gummy’ a whole new meaning,” I said as I fired an arrow into his head.

This Zombie series is fantastic. The humanity of the characters and their will to survive the worst conditions We get humans turning on humans which will be one of the main focal points. Resuming. I freaking loved this book.... :)

First the good: I love it! Story is wonderful and characters are even better! I do like that the author "softened" Orissa just a bit in this one, it made her character more powerful. It is fast paced and will evoke so many different emotions from you while you are reading it (anyone else want to reach in the book and beat the tar out of those hillbillies??).
Second: The improvements since the first book. Spelling and grammar was a little better in this one than the first one, but there are still alot of editing errors (Ms. Goodwin I would be more than happy to proof read the next novel early for free!!!) The author did explain many things better in this book, however I think a few times it felt a little FAQ. Let me explain. I did see reviews on amazon on the first book with some readers saying things were not explained well and did not make sense. The author then had a FAQ session and answered most questions which cleared everything up. In this book, it felt a few times like the author was over explaining something that really adds no significant value you the story, but I think she might have done this to please people who had so many previous questions. The only thing I can say to that is this is fiction, everything doesn't have to make perfect sense and you should have a little bit of imagination. This isn't negative towards the author, I just think she should not feel she has to explain every tiny detail. I do think she has done great research with being very accurate about drive time, distances, etc.
Lastly the bad. Well, it isn't really even bad honestly. I personally just do not like extreme cliff hangers. I like to have a lead in to the next book with some anticipation, but this is a whammy of an ending. First book was too. I like a book to end with at least a little bit of closure like another Zombie trilogy I recently read.
With all of this said, I wish the next book was out now, and I will be stalking the authors blog for updates of the upcoming release. This one deserved the 5 stars!

I received this book to give an honest review.
So when book one left off with a cliff hanger I needed to read book two to see who is going to survive. I am so glad I got to read book two, I literally was itching to see what was going to happen now. I think with this one we see Orissa grow a whole lot more as a solider pretty much. Yes she does whatever it is to survive and save others but she can handle herself which is amazing.
We finally get to see what love can be like between Orissa and Hayden even while fighting zombies we knew it had to happen but when exactly was it going to.
Orissa finds herself in a horrible situation along with another girl and Orissa will stop at nothing to save them both. Orissa is a fighter through and through and props goes to her grandfather for teaching her all kinds of skills.
Of course we deal with a lot of fighting which is awesome so it isn't just mediocre it is literally action through out the book. The group will lose people and gain people and it is heartbreaking for all.
There seems to be a bit of mystery surrounding why they are not to go to a certain place though this is not elaborated on I wonder about it and wonder if we will get an answer to why.
There is a major cliffhanger again with this book and I find myself jumping into book three to find out what is going to happen now to Orissa and her crew of family.
This is an amazing zombie series to read and if you haven't read book one you really need to.

And so, the trilogy continues...
Whenever I start reading a middle book, I find myself expecting the worst. Will the plot be too slow? Will there be too little information, or too much? Middle books are usually used to build the characters, while teasing the reader with only tidbits of what is still to come. As a general rule, I HATE middle books.
That being said, I most certainly did NOT hate this book! It stands on its own two feet, if those two feet were being dragged behind a festering, pus filled walking corpse. I mean that as a total compliment! I love Emily's deliciously gory visuals!
Have I mentioned yet how much I wish I were Orissa? While reading DC, I spent my nights dreaming of zombies. Not once were the dreams scary, however, since I was kicking some serious undead ass! My Orissa fantasy aside, I found that I very much cared whether the characters lived or died, but a quick warning to the readers: Be careful you don't get too attached to any of them...
There isn't much I can say without giving away major plot points, but I will say that fans of Contagious won't be disappointed.

This series is so much fun. It has a good fight and great banter. Just what I need right now considering I am a mood reader most of the time and right now its zombies for me.

Orissa is still as badass as she was before, if not more. I like the way things are getting more difficult. Zombies are getting smarter and the strong ones are staying like that for a long time without deteriorating! There are some inside secrets I guess which I am very curious about.

I am liking the way Hayden and Orissa's relationship is developing and I love the banter between all the A1s!
and that cliffhanger was so sad. I need to read the next book now ;)

Here are my thoughts on a few chapters!

What in the hell happened in this book? There was so much crammed into this story I don't even remember much of what happened in the first part.

So, Rissa goes on a mission. She goes missing and is captured by some inbred Hicks who try to use her to replenish the earth.

She goes on another mission, encounters a fucking tornado.

She decides to stay at the base, which is raided by a herd.

She has got some nasty fucking luck.

The other big thing that happened was Hayden got shit by a group of crazies. And guess who they captured at the end of the book. That's right, Rissa.

I wasn't sure if I would read the third book when I started this one. I guess I am now.

After reading the first book in the series and being completely hooked, i just had to read the second. This one sure didn't let me down when I started to read it. Emily Goodwin has done a really good job with the series. I am really enjoying them. The storyline keeps me on edge as I cheer on Orissa and the love of her life, her marine Hayden. Numerous plot twists and unanswered questions follow throu out the book and on into the next.

This book captured my attention just as much as the first did. Overall, I am very glad I read the series because I was iffy about starting them.

UUUHHHGGG.....I can't believe it ended like that!!!!! My store had better have books 3 & 4 on shelves or in stock. I NEED to know what happens to them! I've read a few comments that say this book is only a filler but after reading it, it can NEVER be considered a filler to me. It is just as action packed, heart inducing palpations, & exciting as the first book.

I really am enjoying this series. Although, I have to admit, at first this was kind of draggy for me in the beginning. I wasn't too thrilled. I can't wait to get my hands on the third book. Orissa is so talented, handy to have around, and useful. Probably no ones first choice before the zombie apocalypse. No expectations in life and mediocrity being the norm for her. Then all hell breaks loose and she really steps up and shows her stuff. I love Padraic and all the friends that she has made along the way. An interesting and colorful array of them. Especially her hottie boyfriend-Hayden. She is his equal, but at times I believe she has got one up on him ;) I love how fast paced this is. How she thinks up things on the fly. There is so much thinking to be done and there is no time to dose off. Literally survival of the quickest here. I love the classifications of the zombies that have been placed in this story. Absolutely makes sense, there is always, a beginning, middle, and an end-unless the end is sooner, meeting of some blunt force through the head, severing it from their spine...Okaaaay... There is so much suspense, I swear Emily Goodwin had me constantly at the edge of my seat. On top of that, she sure loved to frustrate me...especially whenever Orissa & Hayden were out on missions and would just stop in the middle of wherever the hell they were, out and about and would kiss or have a conversation. The whole time I am repeating in my head; "eyes open people"..."zombies!, Fuckin' ZOMBIES!! What.the.hell!?", "where are the zombies", "watch out", "Hurry up!!!!" It got to the point where I felt the need to close the book and step away for a while. Hence the dates...My heart would be in my throat all.the.time! The ending to this book is so shocking to me I really wasn't expecting it. Well, then there were the mysterious things happening that no one knew what was going on and placing it on the back burner. I guess in a way, it was to be expected. Although, I was very focused on the cannibalistic undead roaming. Two more books on their way to us. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LURV!
Oh yeah...P.S. there are a helluva lot of close calls, you wouldn't believe. I found to be literally holding my breath during each one and every time. I'd never realize it until it was over and I actually had to take gulps of air...

This is a fantastic read & I really do recommend it! That is if you love Zombies/suspense/romance/excitement types of books then these are the way to go, These aren't just your normal Zombie-want-brains novels. I must say I LOVED these books & I can not wait to read the 3rd book. the way Emily writes helps you picture the situation or person. She makes you feel as if you are part of the A-1's team too. I read both books in a day & a 1/2 & I was searching for the 3rd only to find out she is in process of writing it. I can't wait to read it & see where Orissa , Hayden, Rider, Brock, Raeya, Paddy, & Fuller will go or if they get eaten.... she knows just what to put where to keep you wondering & thinking what happened?!?!? She makes it like you know these people as if they are real & this is truly happening! I love how she can have the romance, thrills, & shockers all in one chapter! I got some of my friends on these books too! They can't put them down! They lock themselves in the Bath tub & read. like me I stay up late because I want to know what's happening next.
That is what makes a great author. Emily is one of those authors.... she uses everyday life situations in her books as well. when that Tornado went through & they had to run for cover I was on pins & needles & yelling at my book to hurry up! *yes my children looked at me like I was crazy but I was so into the book I felt I was there on the wall as a fly or spider & watching everything go down! I love the fact that she doesn't have just one boring "oh you can run through them Zombies" but 3 stages of zombies! I love that I was actually checking under my cars, beds, etc. to make sure there weren't any S-1's to get me. I love that they seem to have somewhat of intelligence left & are capable of simple things. Also I love how Emily leaves things open to spin off & explain the behaviors of certain people in the books!! l hope you enjoy these stories & I hope this helps you to decide!?!?
here are links to find them on Amazon.com/kindle
check it out for yourselves! only one way to find out....

This is one of the best apocalypse stories with zombies and some romance out there. I read this two years ago and it was one of if not THE first zombie zeries I read. When the author released her third book I had to reread to know exactly where we are. I am so glad I did. This is the old version, folks. Emily Goodwin has re-released all the books in this series with new editing. It needed it and it is why I am giving this version only 4 stars.

I love Orissa, the female protagonist, named for a city in India when her parents were there. She really kicks butt in this one and trains others to fight better too. She and Hayden are very close and fight together with Wade as a team. Riss grows, learns how to function with a team better. There is not much I can tell without giving it all way, but I am so excited to read the third one now. I have waited two years for it. The fourth one is coming out this month too.

If you like post apocalypse stories with or without zombies, you will like this, and throw a little or a lot romance in and you will love it.
However, I recommend you buy the newly edited version. Here you go.

Lisa's review of
Deathly Contagious
By Emily Goodwin

One word AMAZING.  Emily has yet to disappoint me with any of her books to this date.  I was unable to stop reading the book.  I loved how she flowed this book right where book 1 ended.  She is the Queen of the Zombies in my book.  She is also the Queen of Cliffhangers the size of the Grand Canyon.  I was left screaming NO you can't stop there.  But that on,y means that I must get the next book in the series or I will be unable to stop thinking about it.   See you can still have love in a bad ass zombie book between death and destruction.  Emily made it seamless without losing any integrity of the storyline.  I definitely recommend this series to the truly undead fans, better than the tv show Walking Dead.  Emily wants you to get inside the heads of the characters so you can relate better to them.  Thank you Emily for a wild non stop ride.  Please read her other books also Unbound, Contagious, Deathly Contagious, and Beyond the Sea.  Reaper book two of the Unbound series coming soon.

Ok I would actually give it a 4.5 stars. Again another well done story. There were some grammatical errors in this one as well but again it didn't get in the way of the story line. I really enjoyed this story, what I didn't like was not ever mentioning what happened to her in the beginning of the book with the crazy people and of course once she gets Olivia back to the compound we dont ever hear from her character again. Which in my opinion I thought was actually a big deal. They had to survive together for awhile and I feel like the author just let her character die. I did however like how Texas is being brought back into the second one, trying to figure out more of the story behind the symbols and of course this gang. Cant wait until the third book comes out which I believe will answer a whole lot of questions. Highly recommend this book if you are a big zombie fan!

I was so excited to get book two of this series as an arc. The trend lately is to have super nice vamps, zombies, shifters etc. who are pretty much human, but with powers. This is not one of those series. These Zombies are freaky, scary, and gross. I love it!!!! This installment of the trilogy begins exactly where book one left off and it was a nonstop adventure from the first page. This is basically how my emotions went: Phew!!!!! WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! People are sometimes worse than Zombies! It is about time!!!! Please be ok, please be ok! No Way!!! WHAT? IT IS OVER? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Yep, that is pretty much how it went. All I can say is that I will be first in line to read book three and this Zombie Apocalypse better not really happen. If you have not read book one, you really should before reading book two. It is definitely a sequential series.

So I still am loving it! Everything is just amazing but I can't help thinking that the endings is kinda an irresistible but not too much of a cliffhanger.
I cried when they lost, this thing that happened is something I craved. I mean, its an apocalyptic novel, its bound to happen, I waited for things like this. But when the death happened here, I was just so sad. I was thinking we really didn't need that. Orissa is so unbeatable. I didn't think that she can't outshine death.
Anyway, Orissa and Hayden. Gawd, they're freaking sweet and sexy together. I wish Ivan and Raeya get it on already. I liked this better than Paedric. I wish they ALL have their love already. They more than deserved it right now. And I've always thought it weird that they have zombie problems but they're having more trouble with humans. How fucked is the world.

Another amazing zombie novel! I love the characters in this series and the development of them all. Huge suspense at the end of the book, making me scream for the next one!
Again just minor grammar issues with the book, and I did find it a little repetitive at times.

I love how the author doesn't just focus on one problem eg zombies, surviving. She focuses on all the relevant issues in a ZA, including how mad people become when separated from others and technology, simple everyday things like food and clean water that's hard to come across, flu and infection, and basic survival instincts that are long forgotten thanks to today's technology.

An amazing read for zombie/apocalyptic lovers! A definite recommendation!

Starting where the first book Contagious left off you're thrown right back into the world of: Hot Military Guys, Zombies, Fighting for your life, Orissa (love her), and more question than answers.

The gruesome world that Emily painted in Contiguous is built upon and continued. The story is written in such a way you feel as if you're there; experiencing everything with Orissa.

I love this series, it's only taken me soon long to get to this book because I want to drag it out as I know it will end in 2 short books (not in page count but only 2 more :( )

Highly recommend, but be warned, the way this story is written you may question every bump you hear in the night or every shadow you see.

I'm a HUGE zombie fan. I'm one of the people who loves things about the Z apocalypse. As the World Dies is my favorite series so far. I also like TWD. I pretty much love everything with zombies but not the necromancy type (whoever brings back the dead and controls them) or the zombie who can talk and live like a human (except Warm Bodies).

The compound's structure is pretty amazing. In a Z-apocalypse, you can never be too sure of anything and everything is a work in progress. I think the roles are a great way to manage human nature. It's also necessary to maintain order. This is the reason, and also Orissa's love life, that makes me want to read more.

Again though, Orissa needs to stop bleeding. She bleeds too much.
