This daring and thought-provoking chronicle encourages readers, both the healthy and the unhealthy, to become open, honest, and courageous in dealing with the sensitive issues surrounding a life invaded by chronic illness.
I love how honest and raw this book was. As someone who suffers chronic pain this book was very enlightening and I applaud Gregg Piburn for being as honest as he was with his experience. A thought provoking read.
This book is written by the husband of a chronically ill person; however, this is helpful to anyone who is ill or knows someone who is. I have had this book for four years and reread parts of it quite often. It's written in a humorous mood but you can tell the author has been through alot as a family. So there's humorous stories where he makes fun of himself as he learned lessons of how to become a support person, without being an enabler. Also learned how to be a dad. But it has solid tips of advice.
This book is for all partners and loved ones of those living with chronic illness, but his partner has fibromyalgia which makes it particularly relevant. It's written in a very "regular joe" style and is very accessible. I really like how willing he was to expose his own mistakes and shortcomings in his relationship with his wife. If you are in an intimate relationship with someone who has FMS, I highly recommend that you read this book.
Only one other person on goodreads besides myself has read this book. It was available in my county library system and is available used from Amazon. What Piburn says it that life isn't easy. One should take on the challenges, honestly communicate, take care of yourself, and accept help when offered or even pay for it.
An important read for anyone whose spouse is diagnosed with ME/CFS or other related invisible illness. I had hoped my spouse would read it, but he's not much of a reader.
