In November 2021, Eve and Patrick grow uneasy when they read an article about the arrest of a strange, disoriented woman on the Lower East Side. Based on the descriptions of her clothing and behavior, Eve is sure the woman has time traveled. She convinces Patrick they must help the woman, as others had helped them during their time travel journeys. In guarded conversations at the police station, they learn that twenty-seven-year-old Annabelle Palmer did indeed light a lantern and time travel from 1904. They post bail for her and invite her to stay with them while she recovers and adjusts. As the days pass, Patrick grows more and more suspicious that Annabelle is not telling the entire truth about her past. When Annabelle asks if she can use their time travel lantern to return home, they agree, wanting her out of their lives. The morning Annabelle is to light the lantern and disappear into the past, she commits an unthinkable crime and then vanishes. Eve and Patrick are devastated and enraged, and Patrick vows revenge. Once again, the couple must light the lantern and pray it will deliver them to the same time and place as Annabelle. But, as always, the lantern is unpredictable.

Elyse Douglas – Christmas Eve Series Bk 5 – Christmas Eve Journey – Reviewed 9/19/21 – Read 9/14-15/21
When the past creeps in and robs you of something very precious, what will you do?
November 2021, while scrolling the news on her phone Eve reads an article about a woman found wandering around confused and asking what the date is, then pulls a derringer on the police but surrenders quietly while they take her into custody. Eve was sure that it is a case of the lantern again and convinces Patrick that they need to help this poor woman. They had just recently decided that it was time to get rid of theirs, so they donated it, not wanting anything more to do with ‘Time Traveling’. But Eve could not just let this woman face the terrors of what she had just experienced alone. Patrick finally agreed and they go to the jail to see if they could assist the woman.
The Detective had informed them that the woman had only told them her first name, Annabelle, and then refused to say another word. Eventually, they convince him to allow Eve to at least talk to her over the phone. Eve quickly and quietly mentioned the lantern, then Annabelle starts talking! They post her bail and take her to their home, trusting that they could help her. Patrick however, suspects that Annabelle is lying to them, and he developed a strong distrust regarding her. They could never imagine that she would turn on them, robbing them and using the lantern that the Vanderbilts had just sent back to them.
Join Eve and Patrick as they travel again to the past to find Annabelle and right the wrong that she committed against them…
What did I like? As a reader of all of Elyse’s books, I get extremely excited when she adds a new one, and this one did not disappoint me. I tell you I am running out of midnight oil but enjoying every minute of it! Of course, the emotions ran so high in this one, I had to have a box of tissues nearby! Now as you know, Elyse’s books are always filled with gripping action and surprises throughout, so be prepared!
What will you like? Emotional, exciting, mysterious, thrilling, sensational, surprises, enthusiastic, surreptitious, and certainly has the WOW factor! Well, that hit all the bases, and so will you as you travel with Eve and Patrick on their latest quest. The characters will have you bouncing off the walls, Annabelle is that one character that everyone will be able to hate, and she does not even have to work at it. The storyline is nothing short of amazing, with that special touch that only this pair can add to it. Don’t miss adding this wonderful read to your library in Elyse Douglas’s new book in the Christmas Eve Series, “The Christmas Eve Journey!” Available 9/20/21!
I loved this holiday time-travel book! I have enjoyed every book in this series by the authors & I hope they continue to add to the series. I read the actual book, not the Kindle edition. I love all of the characters in the series, & the book is filled with suspense, historical facts, & romance; all necessary elements in a good Christmas story.
I LIKE these authors. I can see how having a male and female working together creates a book that speaks to both the male and female sides of the personality. This book also made me quite uncomfortable. Eve does not seem to be the brightest crown in the box and the decisions she makes bother me. I would like the characters to be more Zen. Instead of complaining about the experience, enjoy it.
I just loved the 4 previous books and the characters Patrick and Eve and their time traveling adventures. Book 5 offered love, exciting danger, and interesting insights into turn-of-the-century New York and San Francisco. I can't wait for Book 6!
As I have read all of Elyse Douglas' time travel stories with Patrick and Eve Gantly this one was much the same as the others. I enjoyed reading this one, but parts of it were predictable. I think I'll leave the Gantly family alone for awhile.
Elyse Douglas is one of the best authors . Her books truly hold your attention and leaves you wanting more. Please take the time to read her Christmas Eve Series. You will not regret it. Her other time travel series are just as AWESOME!!!
What a story of love and compassion. Fear and adventures. And finally, as always, another story in the creation of the lanterns. I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down.
i have loved reading these 5 books whilst on holiday, ive loved the story and every character and pretty gutted i’ve finished them. i can’t recommend enough,
Absolutely gripping page turner as all the books are in this series. The only reason I've not give maximum star rating is the fact I wish Patrick and Eve had found a way to let Joni know what happened at the end. I won't say more to avoid spoilers!!
This author knows how to consistently hit all the right notes in her romantic and suspenseful time travel stories. With compelling characters and interesting plot lines the stories come alive and keep your interest up to the last line.
Reading Book 5 The Christmas Eve Journey was Such An exciting and Another Time Travel Journey for Me!! I was with Eve and Patrick and Baby Colleen every step! A Totally captivating Series. Highly recommend.
What a great series. They were not repetitive. They kept you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think you know the way the story will go, it goes a different way! Great work!!!
Even though I like Elyse Douglas’s writing I find her character Annabelle Palmer to be an unlikable villain, thus I am not enjoying the read as much as her others. Once she is back in time the story improves and near the end we see her true character come out. Overall it was ok. 4.5
Better than the last one but had inconsistencies (like Lavinia never having met them in book 4???). Also so many weird loose ends. It’s like they cranked this one out without putting the effort in.
I loved this story, plot was so good you were unprepared for the next twist. Really enjoyed. The book and hope you find it as good as I did...so enjoy!
