A recommendation for Christmas Wishes caught my attention and, while it isn’t my usual genre pick, the promise of a sweet festive treat drew me in.
To my unanticipated delight, I met our heroine, Hannah Goodbody, in Sweden - a country I know little about, but one that has always intrigued me. And this story reinforced every enchanting image I’d ever conjured about the locale. I quickly became immersed in the sparkly wintry scenes while strolling the snow-covered streets of Stockholm, its colorful buildings adding an idyllic backdrop to this twisty tale.
Hannah is the proud co-owner of a fledgling boutique situated just off the beaten path. One fateful day, as she was sifting through boxes of new merchandise and considering the change in her business partner/boyfriend’s attitude, the door to the shop opened, and in blew a person she hadn’t thought about in years — Nico Pettersson, her brother’s best friend from school. To her complete surprise, Nico resembled a homeless hobo rather than the golden boy she’d fondly remembered. What had happened to the handsome hockey star whom everyone idolized?
Moorcroft explored difficult subject matter with empathy and grace. She illustrated how one's family amounts to more than just a blood relation, and how a devastating hurt could provide the springboard to a beautiful beginning. The characters are flawed, with an interesting facet to Nico’s persona that I hadn’t seen used before. Additionally, some smoking-hot encounters are guaranteed to melt your snowballs!
Will Nico and Hannah’s Christmas wishes be granted? You’ll just have to tuck into this enjoyable holiday romance to find out.
Christmas Wishes is the first novel by Sue Moorcroft that I've read. I wanted to give her work a try for some time now, as I've heard only good things about her books.
I really enjoyed her writing style, as she pulled me into the story from the very first pages, and also woke up my emotions more then few times.
Although this is a festive read, it covers serious topics, and was often more serious and sad than happy.
It really made me think about people in general, about good in them and other people who like to use that good for their own selfish reason. Nico is one example how a good person takes others' problems without even having a say. I was sad for him and also proud of him, and angry too.
One other good thing about this book is how Sweden is pictured in the story. I was never there so I can't talk about transparency, but it did feel real, and I could picture myself there with our characters.
In the end, I just want to say that I will definitely go back to Sue Moorcroft as I really feel like I got so much from Christmas Wishes.
This is one festive read I'd recommend to people who like to read a little more serious books that talk about human relationships and family dynamic.
A cozy and charming Christmas read. This is my first book by Sue Moorcroft but absolutely not my last! The story had everything I love in a cozy Romance: delightful relatable main characters, lovable colorful secondary characters, a cozy gorgeous setting, whimsy and charm. Hannah is working in Stockholm when she runs into her childhood friend Nico. It’s Nice to catch up and even though there is and attraction Hannah is in a relationship and Nico has loads of baggage. Fast forward a few months, Hannah has been dumped Nico has made some major life changes. Their has cross again after they both have moved back to Middledip, A small village in the UK. Will there past challenges allow them to find a future together?
The story bounces between the perspectives of Hannah and Nico. Hannah‘s ex-boyfriend is a complete ass, but Nico has a lot going on. not only is Nico dealing with an eating disorder he is also dealing with his ex-wife’s addiction. which would be hard enough if it was just Nico, but there are also kids involved Nico‘s own daughter Josie and his ex-wife‘s daughter by another man Marie. Niko was such a sympathetic relatable character. my ex-husband is an addict and I know the impact that has on the family. I thought the subject matter was handled very well in the story. I also found a male having an eating disorder interesting it is not often talked about. Nico’s adorable kids Josie and Marie balanced the heavier subject matter out well. Hannah was a wonderful character who fit seamlessly into Nico‘s family. loved traveling back to Sweden for the Swedish Christmas festivities. Julia Winwood narrates the audiobook and brought the perfect amount of festive energy to the story. I particularly appreciated the sweet voices she gave Josie and Marie. A sweet snowy Romance.

*** Big thank you to Avon UK for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***
I loved reading this Christmas book. It had everything you could want from a novel set at such a magical, festive time, but simultaneously, Moorcroft has created a narrative that is realistic. By this I mean that there is family crisis, serious woes and enough sadness to make you realise that Christmas-time is not the “Hallmark” scenes that we have come to associate with this time of year.
Throughout the story, Sweden strongly features. Afterall, Nico was born there, and both him and Hannah have very strong ties to this country. I loved this setting because it is so snowy – an essential ingredient to a Christmas story! I haven’t read a book that features Sweden so heavily and I found this a rather refreshing change. Furthermore, it made me just want to snuggle under a cosy blanket even more, which is perfect for a Christmas read. Moorcroft has clearly done her research with this setting and I did feel like I was travelling there with the characters because the descriptions were so vivid.
As vivid as Sweden becomes, so does the small village of Middledip, where the rest of the story takes place. Both Nico and Hannah return to their childhood village and, as if Fate were in charge, their paths cross. Middledip is the typical remote village: everyone knows each other’s business but there is also a strong sense of community. It is this that entices both Nico and Hannah as the lives that they thought were solid, end up breaking apart. Middledip offers them both a home they never realised they needed.
So, what makes this book so surprisingly sad? The theme of addiction and neglect runs throughout the pages and this was completely unexpected. Moorcroft introduces this from very early on in the story, preparing readers for a novel that is not “sugar-coated” in the slightest. Nico, struggling from his own eating disorder, finds himself in the middle of child-care issues as his now ex-wife cannot cope with his own child, Josie, and Josie’s sister, Maria. On the other hand, Hannah Anna Goodbody (which, in my opinion, is one of the best character names I have encountered in literature!), is emotionally addicted to staying with her Swedish boyfriend, particularly with the financial stability that is provided for her boutique. Thrown in with this are the serious issues of bullying and even child neglect. They are difficult topics at the best of times and I think the Christmas season emphasises the importance of family, honesty and communication.
I loved how the characters developed and could not help but adore Maria. I recognised so many qualities and behaviours in her that I witnessed when my children were growing up. Maria, just a toddler, certainly lightens the narrative which is needed when reading about some tough topics. I could vividly picture her antics and fell in love with the close bond that she shares with her step-sister, Josie. I found myself really rooting for Nico to find the best solution to keep the family together.
I have really enjoyed this festive read. There is a happy ending after all, but there is enough “grit” in this book to make it feel like you are reading about real characters. The pressures of Christmas that I have experienced in the past seem meek in comparison: learning about Nico’s family struggles and Hannah’s bid to be an independent businesswoman. Consequently, I applaud Moorcroft for not sticking to the stereotypical, glossy Christmas read and providing us with something a bit different: slightly tragic but pleasing nonetheless.
With thanks to Avon books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cozy Christmas story which I truly enjoyed reading!
Hannah bumps into her brother Rob’s best friend Nico in Stockholm, the two rekindle a fast friendship. But both of them have their own problems to deal with.
Hannah has to deal with an inattentive boyfriend, Albin as well as the risk of losing her beloved shop while, Nico has two children to look after as well as deal with the constant troubles of his alcoholic ex-wife.
Coincidentally, when Hannah moves back to the little village of Middledip to take care of her Nan, Nico has just moved in too. Under the same snowy sky, can the childhood friends make a romance work – or are there too many obstacles standing in their way?
The main characters Nico and Hannah are so well written and extremely likeable. Nico’s kids Josie and Marie are such a delight to read about. However, Nico’s ex-mother in law was so annoying that I really wished that I could her a piece of my mind.
The book covers so many different aspects such as eating disorders, addiction, failing relationships, family, friendship and parenting. Each of these have been included in the story in such a smooth and beautiful way. It was amazing to read Nico and Hannah’s journey as they faced the different challenges in their lives and emerged stronger than before.
Overall, it’s a perfect festive read!
Thank You to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC!
Christmas Wishes is partially set in the village of Middledip, where it was nice to see a few familiar characters from previous books re-appear, (don’t worry if you haven’t read previous ones, this is a standalone) and cold snowy Stockholm – having been to Stockholm during a snowy December I can vouch for how cold it is!
Hannah Goodbody is in her Stockholm shop, selling luxury goods, when Nico, an old friend of her brother suddenly appears. The two enjoy catching up but romance is not yet on the cards – Hannah has a boyfriend Albin and Nico is in his own complicated situation.
When awful Albin does the dirty on Hannah, she decides to return home to Middledip. Events have conspired to ensure that she is able to look after her injured 90 year old nan, who herself is on a break from her boyfriend after he wanted her to sign a prenup following a marriage proposal – my goodness, these people lead complicated love lives! Hannah of course needs to find work, but discovers that yet again, she is being taken advantage of.
Although Hannah is one of the lead characters, much of the story focuses on Nico. A really lovely guy but one who comes with an awful lot of baggage in the shape of an ex-wife with addiction issues and thus ends up taking on the responsibility for two small girls, but only one being his. Nico certainly has a lot of challenges thrown his way however he was one of my favourite characters and I was so hoping that life would give him a break.
Hannah and Nico may take the lead in this warm and engaging story but there are plenty of others who pull at the heart strings too and entertain. The two young girls, 8 year old Josie and 2 year old Maria, were an absolute delight and I’m not normally a children person. Nan Heather, with her wise advice and clever manipulation struck just the right note. The only character I hated with a passion was Albin, he was foul and how on earth someone as nice as Hannah ever got together with him in the first place was a mystery.
There is a real sense of location when part of the story takes place in Stockholm. Vividly described local areas and landmarks, Swedish traditions, food and drink all add to the atmosphere – after the year we’re having with travel restrictions, it was a pleasure to do some armchair travelling!
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Middledip and Sweden with Hannah and Nico. As you may expect, nothing runs smoothly, there are plenty of challenges and misunderstandings to overcome for our two main characters, however as with previous books, the author doesn’t shy away from giving that added authenticity and realism by including more difficult subjects in the form of alcohol and drug addiction, eating disorders and job demands with the interlinked childcare problems.
Despite the title, only a small part of the story actually takes place during Christmas – so it’s ideal for reading at any time and with the emphasis on love, doing the right thing and family values, all with a light touch of humour, this was exactly the warm and comforting read I needed at the moment. I loved it.
What a fabulous story! Sue Moorcroft is such a fantastic author, she always manages to capture those really heart-breaking moments in life. I was totally captivated by this story and went through all the emotions that I am sure other readers experienced too. Absolutely brilliant, up there with one of the best Christmas books I have read.
CHRISTMAS WISHES by Sue Moorcroft is a cozy holiday romance set in Ms. Moorcroft’s familiar small-town setting of Middledip, England with the unique inclusion of Stockholm, Sweden and its holiday festivals. This is a book in a series that is mainly tied together by the town of Middledip and all the books are easily read as a standalone story.
Hannah is living in Stockholm running her own shop, when her relationship blows up, she loses everything and then moves back home to Middledip to help her grandmother after a fall that breaks her arm. Nico is a single divorced father dealing with a high-pressure job, childcare issues and then the added responsibility of caring for his daughter’s half-sister. Nico ends up moving to Middledip with the girls to slow down and decide on new career options. Nico is one of Hannah’s brother’s best friends and they are reunited at her brother’s wedding. Can these childhood friends have a romance with so many life changes and obstacles in their way?
This was a holiday themed romance that really dove into some serious topics. Nico was not only seriously stressed, but he had an eating disorder from his teens that is resurfacing. He also has the baby that broke up his marriage handed to him to care for while his ex is in rehab, or she will end up in care, and his daughter will be devastated. Even with all this, I truly loved Nico and his heart that wanted to do what was best for everyone. Hannah is the character I had problems with because she was immature and ran rather than communicate even though she was a successful entrepreneur? This was my only problem with this romance because I really do not like miscommunication or no communication at all as the only thing keeping a couple apart.
Both families of the main characters were fully developed and believable with everyday family problems. Hannah’s grandmother was wonderful, and Nico’s daughters were enchanting. I love the things I learned about a Stockholm holiday season and Ms. Moorcroft’s descriptions made me feel as though I was right there.
Nico and Hannah are a couple that must really work for their HEA, but the resolution makes this a heartwarming holiday read.
Set between the familiar setting of Middledip and the less familiar of Stockholm, this is one really enjoyable story.
All the sections in Sweden really appealed to me, as we discover some of the traditions in Sweden of the festive season, and we are even treated to occasional phrases in Swedish, and their translations. It really added a wonderful foreign feeling to the book, and made me feel as though I was in Sweden.
And then there is the part of the book set in Middledip, Sue Moorcroft's regularly featuring village, so fans of hers were able to get glances of some familiar characters, while also getting to know the leads of this book.
We have Hannah, who has a ratbag of a boyfriend, and well I really enjoyed despising and hating Albin, as he really did screw Hannah over (and not in the fun sense). Hannah woman but I was really only interested in her, in relation to Nico, as Nico's story is far stronger.
In fact Nico's story is what drew me in, and had me unable to tear myself away from the book at times. He is having a tricky time with an ex-wife, and his children are adorable. In fact Maria and Josie are arguably the stars of the story and always able to bring a smile to my face.
This is a really fabulous Sue Moorcroft story, filled with her usual warmth, festive feeling in places, great sense of family, and great locations. I love this author so much and this was a sheer pleasure to read. I thoroughly enjoyed Christmas Wishes and was sorry to see it end.
Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.
This time of year makes it almost a requirement to read a Christmas story. The Characters are engaging and the story has a real feel good factor about it. Just what you need this time of the year. I have to say this is one of the best I have read.
This is a delightful book to read and much, much more than a seasonal romance. There is a real story behind the snow and festivities involving Hannah Anna Goodbody and Nico Petterssen. Set partly in Sweden and partly in Cambridgeshire, the writing enables the reader to inhabit both places. Whether it is with Nan Heather in the village of Middledip or in the streets of an icy Stockholm, one is transported to these locations to follow the trials of the couple destined to be together. The book is interesting because the main male character has an eating disorder and the inclusion of this emotional battle should be applauded because we only ever usually hear about bulimia from a female perspective. The book also deals with drug and alcohol misuse and addiction and one's heartstrings are constantly tugged on when you wonder what will happen to 8 year old Josie, and more importantly two year old Maria. The dialogue and behaviour of a 2 year old is captured perfectly and the worry of a parent when a child is struggling at school only too real. Family dynamics in this book aren't typically conventional as Nico is a single dad who ends up taking on far more responsibility than he ever imagined. Hannah is treated badly in business and in love by ex Albin and again when she throws her heart and soul into rescuing the development and Christmas opening of Carlysle Courtyard back in Middledip. Will happiness find Nico and Hannah? Will happiness mean being together and how will Christmas be special if Hannah takes off in her parents' VW campervan The Bus? Full of gorgeous detail, lots of love and an adorable toddler, you would have to have a heart of ice not to feel the warmth emanating from Sue Moorcroft's Christmas Wishes.
I loved the book it was sweet and cute and filled with Christmas cheer. I loved both Nico and Hannnah. They had their own problems to deal with. Hannah had a failing business probably a failing relationship too. Nico had two children to look after along with his personal problems.
Set in the backdrop of festivities and warmth of Christmas, the book soothed the heart with its quiet demeanor. It was wonderful to see friendship emerge between them along with a growing sense of love. The story had its twists, true love was never ever smooth.
It was wonderful to read about two people who had to traverse the minefield of life to find each other. A lovely book by author Sue Moorcroft, indeed.
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This wasn't for me at all. I don't know if it's been the other books I've been reading lately that have more action, but it felt so flat and boring.
The beginning of the book felt super slow. A lot of focus on the single dad Nico and his struggles with a nanny/babysitter, which kept coming back and started to get boring quite fast. Especially the voice of the child throughout the book got quite on my nerves. It felt a little cringey to me to read it. There was also a lot of this throughout the book.
Although the main character is supposed to be Hannah, she wasn't that interesting and Nico's story was more intriguing. The entire book was also a collection of as many traumatising and complicated personal issues you can have to fill the pages. It was just too much. It would've been better if each character had maybe one or two issues and the focus was more on that and the depth of the character.
A native of Middledip, Hannah is living her best life with her Swedish boyfriend and her shop in Stockholm. Her brother's friend Nico (who is Swedish) pops into the shop and the two of them get on famously, Nico even helps her to rearrange her store to show off her merchandise to its best.
Nico and Hannah meet again at Hannah's brother Rob's wedding in Middledip, sparks fly until Nico finds out that Hannah has a live-in boyfriend in Stockholm.
Nico has a high-powered job, splitting his time between London and Stockholm with the help of his live-in cousin Emelie and a nanny called Tilly. But when his ex-wife Loren starts drinking again he can no longer leave their daughter Josie with her and is forced to take over full caring responsibility for both Josie and Loren's daughter by another man, Maria. When his cousin moves out to live with her boyfriend, and TIlly proves unwilling to take on additional hours, or even vary her working hours, Nico is stuck between a rock and a hard place. His mother-in-law is obsessed with her husband's impending heart bypass and her daughter's rehab, she refuses to help with childcare as well. Nico's boss is unsympathetic and Nico decides his only option is to rent out his pricey London apartment and move to a small cottage in Middledip where he can live off the rent differential and care for two small children.
Meanwhile, Hannah's life in Stockholm has fallen apart and she too is forced to move back to Middledip to care for her grandmother who has broken her wrist.
Can these two childhood friends find love?
I love, love, love Sue Moorcroft's Middledip romances, I don't know why they speak to me more than her other romances but they do. Here we are again, with a smattering of Swedish style, as Christmas approaches complete with cute moppets and a Christmas fayre. This novel was no exception, heart-warming, funny, cute and as comforting as a cup of Heinz cream of tomato soup. Loved Nico, loved Hannah, loved Hannah's Nan, a perfect Christmas romance.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Sue Moorcroft takes a cozy love story and elevates it to a whole new level with her amazing characterisation, her beautiful descriptive locations, and her twists and turns - we know the path of true love never runs smooth - even at Christmas!
Hannah is in a dead end relationship in Stockholm, when her brother's best friend Nico (originally from Stockholm but living in the UK) walks in, sent by her brother to check up on her. He helps her re-arrange her window display and she is reminded why she had a crush on him as a child.
Hannah sees him again at her brother's wedding in the UK, and they have a moment, but it all dissapears leaving Hannah very confused. When Hannah returns to Stockholm, resolving to speak to her boyfriend about their relationship, she finds he gets in first and she not only loses her accommodation, but her beloved shop. When her Grandmother in the UK falls and breaks her arm Hannah sees it as a sign she should go home and look after her and she returns to Middledip in the UK.
Meanwhile Nico can't stop thinking about Hannah, even though he knows she has a boyfriend, and his life takes a turn for the ever more complicated.
Sue Moorcroft has ticked all the boxes for me. A feel good, funny, intriguing, Christmassy, love story, with amazing characters, told in a wonderful way. I finished this book after 2am as I couldn't put it down until it was finished!
I have just had the honour of reading the latest novel by Amazon #1 author, Sue Moorcroft, 'Christmas Wishes'. I'm a strong believer that there comes a time in every author's career where they bring out 'That' story. 'Christmas Wishes' is 'That' story. I've been left, in particular order - breathless, doubled-over in laughter, in tears, seething with anger. I don't think I've ever 'seethed with anger' at a character? Wait until you meet Albin!
This story has a detectibly simple premise (IMHO) - can Hannah ever trust another man? More to my opinion, can any man deserve her trust, let alone her love? Is Nico, her Swedish protaganist, that man?
Wonderfully written from start until finish and chock full of storylines you will find in few other romance authors lexicon. Food and alcohol disorders, substance abuse, you name it, it's pretty much here.
Set in equal parts in both Sweden and Sue's own, Middledip. Yes, Ratty does make an appearance! Happy, Ratty fans?
I refuse to say anymore about the story. It is simply too special to give any more than neccessary away.
Sue has written a novel that will live long and sit high on my Christmas reading lists each year. Where does she go from here? Onward and upward, I say!
My thanks to Avon and Netgalley for the reading copy.
One of those books that you have to read during the Christmas holiday— or at least the winter season. It was a fairly enjoyable read. I thought the setting was quite cosy, characters were enjoyable to read, and the romance was cute. There was also an air of whimsical charm sprinkled throughout the book which made the experience even more fitting for the joyous holiday.
Hannah is a shopkeeper in Stockholm and lives with her boyfriend. She takes pride in the shop although it hasn’t been doing as well as she has hoped. When her brother Rob’s friend Nico stops by her shop, the two become reacquainted quickly. Nico is now a single father of eight year old Josie from his former marriage. Hannah enjoys Nico’s company and looks forward to seeing him again at Rob’s upcoming wedding in her hometown of Middledip.
Nico thoroughly enjoys his life as a single father, but between work and Josie he hasn’t much time for anything else. When he brings Josie to see her mother for an overnight stay, it’s very evident that he cannot leave her here. In fact, he cannot leave Josie’s two year old half-sister Maria there either. Suddenly his life has become much more complicated.
At the wedding, Hannah and Nico spend some time together dancing and talking and Hannah realizes that the relationship with her boyfriend has lost its magic. When Hannah returns from the wedding, she is surprised to learn that she has lost her shop, her home and her boyfriend. She returns to Middledip to care for her Nana and to start repairing her life. Hannah and Nico develop a strong friendship and romance, but will it be strong enough to overcome so many obstacles?
This is a beautiful story perfect for the Christmas season. I really appreciated how this book felt as though I was observing a real story. I loved these children and the sweet element they bring to the story. I appreciated the therapeutic relationship between Hannah and Nico and the spirit of giving and helping others. There was a key message in this enchanting story - one that speaks of keeping yourself healthy first and understanding the limitations when helping others. The author provides great character development of the protagonists and I felt I really knew and liked the characters. The story is engaging, and a joy to read.
I listened to the audiobook version which was narrated by Julia Woodwind. I really enjoyed her performance and found her voice to be crisp and articulate. I particularly enjoyed her portrayal of Maria and her charming “My Dad”! I listened to this book at 1.5x speed which is slightly faster than my normal speed of 1.25x. I would definitely recommend the audiobook version of the book to those that enjoy this format.
I really enjoyed this book about Hannah and Nico and the children. It was a lovely Christmas story and I enjoyed the settings in England and Sweden. I loved the audiobook narrator, especially when she was narrating the children's voices. She did a very good job. I loved when she had Maria saying "my Dad". That was so cute and it made my heart melt. I highly recommend this book.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Jedes Jahr wieder.
this book made me want to rip every strand on my head out and let’s talk about why. first off, why was every single scenario in this book written in so much detail like I didn’t need to know half of this stuff. it made the book so slow paced and I just got so bored of reading it I almost dnfed. secondly, the only character I liked slightly was nico but even that is pushing it. hannah was so annoying and literally is so bad with communication. why is a 5 year old girl talking like a 30 year old woman. i have so many questions, the main one being why did I waste my time on this book:))))
I really enjoyed this book, it was a fabulous story, with characters that I found myself becoming emotionally attached to . Nico was so endearing, you couldn’t help but fall for his kind and gentle heart! I loved the travelling between Stockholm and Middledip, seeing the different customs . Hannah was inspiring too, and it was mesmerising watching her re connect with Nico. Some very emotional themes, but written in such a thoughtful and honest way, it brought a very different dimension to the story that created a positive and uplifting ending. A wonderful heartwarming festive read, filled with the wonderful sparkle of friendships rekindled. A perfect Christmas book 🎄
When Hannah Anna Goodbody is asked to leave by her nasty boyfriend, losing not only her home in Sweden but also the business she’s worked hard to build up, she returns to Middledip to look after her Nan who’s had a bad fall. At the same time, a friend from her teenage years, Nico, is having trouble with his ex-wife, whose addiction issues have landed him with looking after her two-year-old (in addition to the eight-year-old they share). As Nico and Hannah get closer, life gets in the way and the path to true love (and even friendship) is riddled with danger. Another winner from Sue, this just proves that as a writer she’s getting better and better with every novel. With a considerable amount of the book set in Sweden, her research is well presented without being over the top and the Middledip parts are, as ever, simply wonderful with lots of cameos from previous novels to make longtime readers of her books smile. Told with an excellent pace, great sense of location and a terrific feel for character, this doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of life (for either the heroine or hero), but still comes down on the side that human goodness will win in the end. I loved this, one of my favourites of hers (and I’ve read them all), I would highly recommend it.
Having enjoyed darker stories in November, I was ready to read some Christmas romance and Sue Moorcroft’s Christmas Wishes, set in Stockholm, promised some armchair travel too.
Hannah Goodbody is a luxury goods retailer who is thrilled when Nico Pettersson, an old schoolmate, visits her shop in historic Gamla Stan, the bustling medieval part of Stockholm. From the outset, Hannah and Nico get along well. However, Hannah is already in a relationship, whilst Nico is run ragged juggling work as a marketing executive with his responsibilities as a single dad to two little girls.
As Stockholm is a city I have yet to visit, it was wonderful to escape to the wintery setting. Christmas Wishes is sprinkled with comforting Swedish traditions, fascinating locations, as well as tempting descriptions of seasonal food. So much so that I plan to bake Saffron buns! (Traditionally eaten on December 13th, St Lucia’s Day, celebrating the Festival of Light, in the spirit of Advent and Christmas).
Also, it was refreshing to discover the space given to Nico’s story - interesting to read from a single dad’s point of view. Sue Moorcroft never shies from gritty issues, even in Christmas fiction, and I found myself really rooting for Nico and the wonderful family he tries hard to stitch together. If you are searching for a feel-good festive read, set against a snowy backdrop, exploring family issues as well as romance, then it is all wrapped up beautifully in Christmas Wishes.
Daher 3,5 Sterne⭐
Set in Stockholm and Middledip in England, this is a lovely book about families, relationships, and new romances. Hannah feels an attraction for her brothers friend, but circumstances are difficult until they find themselves living in the same place. She's recently lost both her business and her boyfriend. Nico is juggling life as a single dad and problems with his ex wife. The issues show what a wonderful man he is and I fell in love with him! I loved the two settings and the lovely family Christmas with 2 little girls bringing the christmas magic to the occasion.
