Gamma Bots is the third book in the 'Womanoid Diaries Trilogy.' The first two books are Alpha Bots and Beta Bots. My review will contain short synopses of Alpha Bots and Beta Bots, but I'll try to avoid spoilers.
*****
Alpha bots takes place in a town called New Stepford, where all the women are AI androids, purchased by men to fulfill their needs. There are various kinds of androids, and Cookie Rifkin is a sex kitten, programmed for domestic chores and carnal relations.
Cookie and her kind are a cut above basic robots in that they can eat, drink, experience pleasure, feel pain, and most importantly, think for themselves. Cookie and other New Stepford 'wives', tired of being submissive mates, rebel with the help of two crafty androids: a robotics engineer called Wayne.....
.....and a cop called Maggie.
*****
As Beta Bots opens, Cookie has gained her freedom, and android Wayne is her boyfriend.
Cookie, Wayne, and a non-binary metallic shapeshifting AI called ANA (pronounced A-N-A) - who can morph into ANYTHING - set out on a mission to steal gold and palladium from a Russian bank.
Along the way, the trio meet - and are helped by - several new friends, including a female android called Tabby - who owns a luxury yacht called the Wonder Woman;
a trans man named Richie - who captains the Wonder Woman;
and Uno - a non-binary white Bengal tiger.
There's a lot of action in the story, during which the AIs, who have WiFi, communicate with each other, share data, and download useful programs - like how to use martial arts. AIs also contain 'recyclones' that they use to heal themselves, rebuild lost body parts, and basically make anything they want....weapons, clothes, whatever. Thus it's VERY hard, though not impossible, to 'kill' an AI.
Among other things, the AIs want to destroy the Stepford Corporation, which - in addition to manufacturing android women - has various underhanded schemes.
*****
At the beginning of Gamma Bots, Cookie and some of her friends are on the yacht Wonder Woman, engaging in water sports and waiting for Cookie's android boyfriend Wayne to fly in from London.
Cookie has a shifting set of goals that include: 1. destroy the Stepford Corporation; 2. rescue a 'child' android named Mateus, who's being held in the Stepford facility; 3. kill Maggie', a former AI friend of Cookie's who's gone bad; and more.
In the meantime, Cookie gets a WiFi signal from an AI called Paula, Cookie's erstwhile best pal, who was thought to be dead.
Cookie and her companions find Paula's parts in a garbage dump and reassemble her - but this isn't the same old Paula. This 'new' Paula is a killer who can change into almost any object, such as a car; a tank; a fighter jet, and on on. Moreover, Paula can make other AIs to assist her.
Evil Paula is determined to obliterate Cookie and her friends, and the villainous android follows Cookie everywhere. This leads to action scene after action scene as Cookie tries to destroy the Stepford Corporation while simultaneously battling Paula.
Here's an example of an action scene:
Cookie's non-binary AI friend ANA, who can transform into anything, has become a gray F-35 fighter jet. Cookie sees the gray F-35 zoom overhead, followed by three black F-35s in V-formation.
Cookie narrates: "Somehow, I knew Paula was the leader.....ANA pulled a barrel roll that spun into a deep nosedive, causing the three black jets to overshoot their target. Then, ANA climbed behind them, shot a single missile and took out one of Paula's wingwomen. With it's engine on fire, the black fighter spun into a corkscrew. A thick black trail of smoke spiraled across the indigo sky.....Then, the plane hit the deck.....ANA circled again, this time with two bogeys on their tail....." and so on.
The novel is chock full of scenarios like this, with AIs that can fly; can sprout weapons and tools from the ends of their limbs; can reassemble themselves after the most horrendous damage; and more.
In the course of the story, Cookie meets Dr. Jean Fluke, the original creator of the Stepford Corporation's womanoids. Dr. Fluke designed other AIs as well, including plant AIs and mushroom AIs, all of which are important to the tale.
Cookie also has to rescue her boyfriend Wayne at one point, and try to stop an AI called M@STER, which plans to start a nuclear holocaust that will destroy the planet. All this entails more pulse-pounding quests.
The book has lots of memorable scenes, such as Cookie being attacked by a nursery full of toddler androids; Cookie having a sexual adventure; Cookie teleporting across the country via mushroom AIs; Cookie camouflaging herself in a kitchen full of Cook-Es (Cookie clones that do nothing but cook banana recipes); and more.
This is a fine conclusion to the womanoid trilogy, and I'd even be curious to learn what happens with Cookie next.
The book has lots of 'Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll', and would probably appeal to any reader who likes sci-fi action and adventure.
Gamma Bots by Ava Lock is the conclusion of the Womanoid Diaries which delivers wild adventures and truly enigmatic experience for its readers. Now that Cookie Rifkin is determined to crush her maker Stepford Corp, her plans soon spiral in a tornado of events which are not only filled with action but also about her journey of self-awareness. From resurrecting Paula to breaking into Stepford Corp, Cookie's conclusion journey reminds us about hope and determination when faced with exploitation. A wonderful end to an amazing journey, Gamma Bots is an excellent sci-fi novel.
The author has become one of my most favorite writer as she has the ability to merger her genius creativity into an excellent piece. Her storyline always carries the perfect balance to hold and transport the reader's attention to her world of her own. Cookie's vivacity and her cohesion with all the characters is utterly amazing. A must read for a sci-fi lover or anyone looking for an exhilarating series.
The third and final installment of Ava Lock’s The Womanoid Diaries, Gamma Bots concludes the adventures of Cookie and her compatriots in an epic manner. Following her mission to destroy Stepford, her creator, Cookie runs a gamut of dangerous encounters leaving her ultimately questioning everything she thought she knew. Lock has a smooth and succinct writing style that makes reading a pleasure. She weaves the storyline effortlessly and helps the reader to feel a part of the story as it unfolds. The thematic material is a bit R-rated, but not in such a manner that it becomes obtuse or a burden to get through. Overall, I found the book to be a great grand finale to the fast paced and action-packed series, and anyone who liked the previous books will be sure to be quite satisfied with the outcome.
For those of us who joined Cookie's adventure in a tiny kitchen, in a tiny home, in a tiny little town called New Stepford, Gamma Bots is a conclusion on a nearly unimaginably grand scale. It's almost non-stop action from start to finish, while leaving plenty of room for Cookie to reflect on her growth from a timid housewife to a powerful warrior of the (true) self.
Absolutely recommend this entire series to anyone who enjoys epic sci-fi vibes set against a modern-day cultural potpourri.
Loved the conclusion to the series and I think this one is more action packed than the last one. It started from the off with the drama and didn't let up till the end. If your prone to crying when reading sad parts get the kleenex ready 😢 .
The stunning conclusion to The Womanoid Diaries Series, in which AI Cookie Rifkin attempts to destroy Stepford Corp and stop a nuclear war.
You know you're having a bad day when your AI best friend/unrequited love of your life, Paula, comes back from the grave in "kill mode" and commands an army. And that's not even mentioning the mechanized shark attack.
Suffice it to say Cookie Rifkin has returned in Ava Lock's Gamma Bots--the action-packed, heartfelt conclusion to The Womanoid Diaries Series. After the aforementioned deadly onslaught, Cookie is left mostly alone and grieving, but she's still determined to infiltrate Stepford Corp headquarters and rescue kidnapped fellow AI Wayne Dixon. Unfortunately, things are about to get even more dangerous: turns out, the corporation has a supercomputer that is running atomic bomb scenarios. With the help of nonbinary asexual AI ANA, a helpful human doctor who looks surprisingly familiar, and the singularity itself, Cookie will try to take down Stepford Corp once and for all--and hopefully prevent nuclear war along the way, of course.
Gamma Bots is a worthy conclusion to a truly original, refreshing, and rollicking series, particularly for the way Ava Lock amps up narrative elements that readers of the first two volumes already know and love. This novel is even more referential, touching on everything from visual art, books, and film, and contains a plot element about the concept of a "kill phrase" built out of quotations (i.e. when literature has become such an integral part of your identity that words can be used to shut you down). Cookie continues her revelatory journey of personal sexual discovery, realizing and accepting that she's capable of loving more than one person at once. And the wacky meter is thankfully dialed up high: we get a messed up mother-daughter forced Steinway piano playing scene at razor point, a sexy wrestling match in slippery banana peels, a morphine-enhanced three-way (or four-way, if you count the plants), and an epic T-Rex transformation at Area 51.
But, in classic fashion for Ava Lock, not everything is fun and games: the novel ends on a genuinely beautiful, poignant note about how death really isn't the end--because those we love never actually leave us. We carry them within, forever.
“Gamma Bots” is the third and last book of the series “The Womanoid Diaries” by Ava Lock.
Lock is a contemporary writer that covers fresh and updated topics and she mixes them with science fiction. She does a great job doing so, and it is for this reason that I believe that science fiction lovers should give this entire series a chance.
As regards this particular book, here comes the promising ending to a well-written story that kept me at the edge of my seat and did not give me a rest. The plot is mind-blowing and it is full of adventures.
I certainly had a good time while going through this story, but I give it four stars because the ending stretches a lot in the final chapters of the book.
This third book in a series is the best one so far. It's part of a series which has the effect of making readers feel totally absorbed in. The author's mastery of plot, as usual, was fine-tuned to the upper limit, incorporating both good-quality vocabulary and an excellently-written plot since events unfold naturally and smoothly. Its twists and turns keep one guessing until the very end, though it is a free-standing book if you just don’t happen to read the previous ones. It's a medium-paced tale, though the chapters are not long and this makes them easier to follow. This fictional installment is an outstanding read for any type of reader and I have enjoyed it until its final line!
What a ride. Oh, what a perfect ending to this awesome trilogy! Even though I lost two of my favourite characters, but that's what I am used to, so it's in no way Ava's fault. I love these books so much 💗
I've been a fan of science fiction stories for a long time, but never have I read such an inclusive and well written plot as this one. Gamma Bots by Ava Lock is the third and final book of 'The Womanoid Diaries'. In my opinion, it is the best ending for the trilogy. The previous books gave me great times while reading, but nothing compares to this last one. I like many aspects of the novels, such as the descriptions, the dialogues as well as the presentation of every character and how their stories develop. I was glad to read about relationships that are truly part of our time and future. As I was reaching the end of the book, I didn't know what to expect. I don't want to spoil anything, but I have to say that it was the perfect ending. I started reading the first of these books during lockdown and couldn't stop untill now. I'm looking forward to reading more novels from this author.
Merged review:
The Womanoid Diaries by Ava Lock is a complete trilogy fantasy that blew my mind. This superhero fantasy is about an AI housewife who rebels against her programming. I found this complete set of stories to be quite interesting from head to toes. As I read, I kept questioning the place of humanity in the far and near future. I realized the key role of artificial intelligence. These sci-fi fantasy stories have an interesting plot, thrilling action, LGBTQ romance and bright characters; making a colorful and interesting final outcome. I took the three books and read them in a couple of weeks, I felt trapped by the stories. I believe this happened thanks to the writing style, the descriptions and scenes made me feel part of the narrative. I strongly recommend them.
Gamma Bots is the dramatic conclusion to The Womanoid Diaries by Ava Lock. In this third installment, following Alpha Bots and Beta Bots, we are again reading the story being journaled by anxious, queer, galaxy-traveling, corrupt corporation-destroying AI, Cookie Rifkin and their friends. Gamma Bots is a great action-packed sci-fi, including all of the lovable LGBT characters from previous installments. At first, at least. We see a lot of what Cookie has gained over the course of the series disappear, but it's fun to read and overall Lock has written another wonderful story with a message of hope in the face of loss and corruption. I think the end was a little too simple, maybe drawn out for too long, but I like happy endings either way.
The characters are explosive because there is so much to explore and reflect on. This falls within the sci-fi genre however it still has elements of thrill and sensuality. The author touches upon themes of conflict, AI and even identity. The action-packed scenes are intense and well-written. The language is easy, comprehensive, and has a great flow. But the most interesting part is the way that the characters interact with each other and how their personalities merge with the concept of fight or flight. The motivation behind revenge and the implications of power are continuous reminders throughout the book of how things can go sour and hit the fan quickly. It is based in a dystopian setting but the way it is written transports the reader into the plot itself!
What a talented author!! I think I have purchased nearly all of Ava Lock’s books and she managed to catch my attention one more time. I dare to say that she captivated me since the very first book but this story in particular fulfilled all the expectations I had when I chose it. It’s not what I called a real fast-paced novel in terms of really big happenings or surprising moments; but for me, the short chapters went quickly and I was intrigued throughout because I wanted to know what happened next. As regards the author’s writing style, I have to say that I loved the dialogues between the characters because they are interesting and really absorbing. I’d recommend this piece for those that enjoy this genre, and those that enjoy being part of the buzzed-about-books experience.
Gamma Bots, the third installment in The Womanoid Diaries series, is a perfect fit for readers who enjoy SciFi. The author presents a smooth writing style while perfectly presenting believable scenes. I appreciated the author's style of leaving chapters with cliffhangers so that I was pushed to continue with a need to know what happens next. This was a well-executed conclusion to the series and definitely one I would recommend to readers looking for high action and a drive for power. I would recommend reading the first two installments in the series prior to this final installment in order to have an understanding of the characters and their development throughout the story to the point of the finale.
Gamma Bots by Ava Lock is the 3rd instalment and finale to the Womanoid Diaries Series. The author wrote an exciting book series about Cookie and her friends' journey to destroy her creator, Stepford. The author introduced us to a lot of interesting characters of all colours and shapes, which makes this book extremely inclusive. I enjoyed every word chapter after chapter. It is a sci-fi story that is one for the books or 3! The author wrote a captivating story that kept me reading page after page. She may be a housewife but she is one impressive lady with lots of very interesting and admirable skills! And the author gave her a good ending.
Cookie resurrected Paula and is on the run from her now. Infiltration of Stepford Corporation, new AI’s being created and so much more! This book is a wild ride from start to finish, and you certainly have to have read the first two to follow all the characters well. Chase scenes, Bondage and more, I truly cannot give this book justice in a review, you will have to check it out for yourself. Snarky dialogue, Sassy AI and some very questionable decisions.
