Buckhorn, Montana #5

Under a Killer Moon

Rate this book
A celebration becomes a crime scene with a killer hiding in plain sight…

With Buckhorn, Montana’s 125th anniversary on the horizon, it’s the job of straight-laced marshal Leroy Baggins to keep the peace during the four-day celebration. But his focus is distracted by the arrival of private security owner TJ Walker to help with the event—she’s clearly someone who doesn’t play by the rules, a loose cannon who pushes him outside his comfort zone.

Unlike the marshal, not much flusters a woman like TJ. Having once been a victim of violence, she’s worked hard to become specialized in her field, and in protecting her heart. But this assignment is anything but ordinary. She didn’t expect this sudden attraction to Leroy—and she never could have predicted she’d come face to face with her attacker from years ago.

As thousands of revelers descend on the small town, what TJ and Leroy don’t know is that a killer is among them, and that they’re in the crosshairs. Forced to team up together, they’ll have to figure out how to stay alive when anything that can go wrong…does.

🎡🌕What was Tj's plan if she sees worth again? Just tell him off? That was shit plan. She was even ready to sign the NDA if he pRoMiSe to apologize and not rape anyone again. Like how naive is that.
🎡🌕The last action scene left me confused. Archer tackled worth and thn ran away. Why couldn't he just kill him? Maybe thn we could have said that he saved TJ's life.
🎡🌕And are we forgetting axel? Who we know raped Jennifer? She wrote it in her diary which the police had in their hand. So why are they not arresting him? And people still don't know about it? How can this be overlooked?
🎡🌕 What was that at the end?

Buckhorn Montana is about to celebrate their 125th birthday celebration and Vi Mullen has the town all excited about the festivities. Marshal Leroy “By the Book” Baggins is not so comfortable about all of the outside people coming to their small town of Buckhorn but Vi has also arranged for extra security by hiring Walker Security Inc. to assist Marshal Baggins. The carnival is setup in the town’s new fairgrounds; the smell of cotton candy and corn dogs fill the air along with music from the Ferris wheel. Buckhorn’s residences have tried to stay out of Vi’s way in her planning of this celebration, but Vi’s niece is planning on making a surprise visit to Buckhorn as soon as she escapes the mental hospital. Vi has been pushing for the governor to make an appearance of their great celebration, but his aid Prescott Rutherford Hollingsworth III advises against this appearance. A heroic action taken by TJ Walker has given her publicity that she didn’t want but the Governor needs it for his upcoming re-election. Marshal Baggins is having problems with the methods TJ Walker and her team are providing security; it’s not by the book. Suspense, danger and romance are constantly interwoven throughout the book.

Every story in this series is fantastic! I love the characters in Buckhorn! This small town is quirky, but they sure have a lot of danger going on there! In this installment, the town is celebrating its 125th anniversary and Vi Mullens is in charge of preparing it. She is in her element! She doesn't know that her niece, Jen, in the state psych ward, is also preparing to escape and attend the celebration too! Leroy Baggins, the "by the book" marshal is tasked with keeping the peace but with all the people coming to town, he needs help so Vi hired extra security in the form of TJ Watkins & her team. TJ and Leroy couldn't be more opposite, but I sure did enjoy their characters and their relationship! They had their hands full with all the action going on during the celebration! Then, the governor & his assistant decide to show up and even more action happens. Lots of revelation happens and yep, there might even be some murder and attempted murder! I love how we get to delve into the thoughts and feelings of the characters. Leroy is my favorite type of male hero - strong and quiet yet heroic. A wonderful book!

Under A Killer Moon

With the 125th anniversary of Buckhorn Montana. By the book Marshal Leroy Baggins he is to keep people out of harms way. But he is a little distracted by TJ Walker. She made him feel a little out of his comfort place.
TJ was a little out of place being a victim of violence she kept her secret to herself until the Marshall heard a conversation on the phone. She owned her own her on private security company.
Knowing the governor was coming the 4th day closing ceremony she had to be on her game. Knowing man had done the violence to TJ Marshall wanted to have her in his eyes always.
What was harder was keeping there eyes open for Jen Mullen who had escaped a mental institution and finding out that Kyle Richard Archer that was told to the Marshal on day 4.
BJ had alot of twist romance and suspense that makes this book on the edge of your seat.
I recommend this book

Another in the Buckhorn, Montana series in which Marshall Leroy Baggins finds himself kicked out of his "by the book" pattern when he is introduced to the owner of Walker Securities, who is hired by Vi to help manage things during the big 125th anniversary celebration of little Buckhorn, MT. TJ is not a woman to be trifled with, but that's because of a previous crime perpetrated against her years earlier, all of which makes her distrustful of men--until she meets the Marshall and senses he may be different.

Soon, however, TJ's biggest nightmare comes to town even as two mental patients escape and head to town. What kind of mayhem they may perpetrate is unknown, but it can't be good, particularly after the governor decides to pay a visit. How all this plays out is not without dangers for both Leroy and TJ. Can they keep each other safe or will they both fall victim to people who want them dead?

Under a Killer Moon
By B.J. Daniels

I love being Bach in Buckhorn Montana. In this little town you never know what will happen next.

Vi Mullens is heading up the 125 celebration of Buckhorn. This is definitely her in her element!

Leroy Baggins known as “by the book Baggins” is Marshal of Buckhorn. He is not happy about this celebration.

TJ Walker and her security team were hired by Vi to help with the Fair security.

The celebration fair is like no other.
We have VI’s niece that broke out of a mental institution.
Then there is K. Bob Rutherford Hollingsworth lll better known as Worth. He is right hand man to the governor’s right hand man, and a serial rapist.

Ty e story has so many twists and turns you won’t be able to put it down.
Thanks B.J. Danielle for another great read 🙂

Another wonderful book in the Buckhorn, Montana series by B. J. Daniels. This book grab me from page one til the last page.. Vi is lording over Buckhorn with the birthday celebration. She is so happy so many are showing up!

But not all is well. Vi learns some shocking news from her daughter Tina.

There is a killer that is roaming around trying to stay hidden and fighting the urge to kill.

There is a nasty man that did something to TJ one of the people that has been brought in to help Leroy and his department keep the town safe!

Leroy is not happy with Vi for bringing others in to help but when he meets TJ and her team he is impressed!

There are many twists and turns in this book! From page to page you are holding your breath to see what happens next. You won't be disappointed!

A security agent and the local Marshall

Buckhorn, Montana is turning 150 years old, and Vi Mullens is making a huge carnival out of celebrating her ancestors, as well as getting the governor to speak. Marshall Leroy Baggins knew the few law men he had available would not be enough to provide security, so Vi had to hire a security team for extra safety. What Marshall Baggins hadn't counted on was his instant attraction to T J, the head of the security team. Things became more complicated when a woman convicted of three murders escapes from the psychiatric hospital to come back to see her aunt and cousin. Then there's the serial rapist to keep an eye on. Can love bloom in the midst of all these complications? B.J. Daniels does it again.

I enjoyed this tale of a celebration that went wrong and yet didn't. The story builds the tension of 'what's going to happen' over the four day celebration of Buckhorn's 125th birthday. There's the busy-body, two escapees from a mental institution, a by-the-book marshal, a top-notch security team and lots of secrets revealed. All of this, along with fascinating characters, are skillfully woven together. And then there's the little bonus novella/short story at the end of the book - which actually takes place before the main story. Again fascinating characters and an intriguing story. Both stories are wrapped up nicely with ribbons of happily-ever-after romance woven throughout.
Excellent.

Buckhorn, Montana’s 125th year celebration is coming up & Marshall Leroy Baggins is really not looking forward to it. Vi Mullens, the person who has put this together, has hired her own security team with TJ Walker being the owner of the team. Marshall Baggins is straight by the book, whereas TJ Walker plays it by ear. Vi Mullens’ niece has broken our of a mental institution to attend the celebration & all law enforcement is looking for her, not knowing there is a real killer out there. Also TJ is confronted with a shock of her own in this small town. Leroy & TJ never planned on losing their hearts to each other. This is a must read as the plot thickens the farther you get into the book.

Leroy Biggins and TJ Walker might be opposites in their approach- he's straight-laced and she's a little freer- but they share the common goal of keeping the Buckthorn anniversary celebration safe. Vi Mullen brought in TJ's company to help out but she didn't know just how much the extra assistance will be needed, especially when the Governor and his villainous aide turn up. Yes, there's a slow burn romance between Biggins and TJ but this is as much a thriller (of sorts) as anything. There are good small town atmospherics. Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC. It's the fifth in the series but perfectly fine as a standalone.

Despite the cover, this is not a cowboy story, but the small town marshall in Montana is close. I did like the main characters who were both strong-willed and brave, and fought the idea of love until the very end. TJ was haunted by her past and had things to prove to herself for sure. She took a lot of risks. The small town atmosphere shone through and the characters were very real. I felt that there were too many things happening in one festival and too many coincidences. There were a few things that I had a hard time accepting but overall it was a satisfying, exciting and romantic suspense novel that I can recommend

This was an ok read. There were instances that to me didn't make sense.
It is Buckthon's 125th Birhtday celebration and Vi is hoping it is going to a be a crowning glory. She has hired a private security firm to help beef up the town's police force.
When it is discovered that there is an escaped mental institution inmate heading for the town, what could that mean for the celebrations?
Will the state Govener come and give the closing speak?
Why is the head of the security firm so on edge due to the govener's aid?

All these questions are asnwered.
I like Tj and her friendship with Leroy, they were good for each other. I honestly didn't understand Vi in some instances.

UNDER THE KILLER MOON by B.J. Daniels, book 5 of Buckhorn, Montana series. Also included is a wonderful bonus story BEFORE MEMORIES FADE

Woo-wee! What a wild ride!

B.J. Daniels let loose of a variety of characters during the festival of the 125th anniversary of Buckhorn! Various subplots circle the escape of a killer. It is no surprise that UNDER THE KILLER MOON is a suspenseful, wild ride. I couldn’t tear my nose out of the book! For calming waters, enjoy the bonus story BEORE MEMORIES FADE. I received this complimentary copy from the author.

Another awesome book by B.J. Daniels once I started reading this book I just could not put it down. This is one of those books that you take it everywhere you go while still reading. I stayed up half the night reading.

Vi is an important member of the town of Buckhorn and she is planning on having a four day birthday party for the town.

The Marshal, known as by the book Baggins, tells her that she has to hire additional security to help him and his deputies with crowd control and other issues.

There is a lot going on in this book and you don't want to miss it. Check it out.

I really like Buckhorn and all that’s progressed over the series. However, this book in particular seemed to lack something for me, I couldn’t get into it. I actually didn’t finish it.

A lot of what was happening and emotions that were felt was “told” to me verses being described. I couldn’t necessarily “feel” what the characters were going through as much as being told what they were feeling and going through. I never got lost in the metaphorical movie aspect of reading a book. Idk if that makes sense.

Pretty good. Follows a Marshall and a someone in security as they have to work together to ensure the safety at a town event. Escaped mental patients (one a local accused of multiple murders), and a deep dark secret from her past come to call. The novella in back was also good, but if they want to add a novella they need to take into account the timeline. The novella was talking about the event that happened in the book as something being planned to happen in the future. Keep the timeline linear, don’t go back and toss in an earlier novella at the end of a book.

Marshall Leroy Baggins is upset over the big 125th birthday celebration for Buckhorn as he doesn’t have enough staff to handle the crowds. He changes his mind when he meets TJ Walker of Walker Security. Walker Security is to help with any problems that arise. When the Marshall hears that a former Buckhorn resident has escaped from the criminally insane asylum, he knows there will be trouble.

This story keeps your interest with twists and turns. BJ Daniels is a great author.

125 year celebration

Leroy wanted Vi to cancel this celebration of hers. He didn't have the manpower to handle it. If she didn't cancel she needed to get private security to help him.
TJ was the head of the security Vi hired.
After their first meeting Leroy wasn't impressed. But the next day when he met her and her team he feeling better.
This is a very good story with side stories and believable characters. A don't miss

I love a good kickass female lead character. TJ Walker does not disappoint in this role. TJ shows up in Buckhorn, Montana with her security firm to work during the town's festival. This does not make Marshall Leroy Baggins very happy, as he feels his police force can handle the crowds. That is until local psycho, Jen Mullen, breaks out of the Mental Institution with another resident. Now everyone in Buckhorn could be in danger.

Each book in this series gets better and better. This book was absolutely amazing! Leroy and TJ were terrific characters who were able to overcome their insecurities and find a happily ever after. I love how the author made sure to let the reader know what happened with all the secondary characters as well. There were definitely some twists I didn't see coming. A wonderful book and a great series!

The main story was gripping in the intensity of what could happen at the town's birthday celebration. Some of the towns regular characters are included in this story from the previous town happenings.
The second story had Vi and Earl checking out some newcomers to town before the birthday celebration.

This book was a Rollercoaster ride from start to finish! The love angle from the two main characters is a little forced at times, and there are times when the heroine is just really annoying, but overall the story and minor character storylines were intriguing enough to overlook the minor issues
