The Last Dragorai #4

A Lair So Fateful

Rate this book
From a dark, magic-ravaged world comes an enthralling new fantasy romance series. Five brothers, last of an ancient Alpha bloodline, each bound by fire and blood to their majestic dragons.

He demands her worship. Or he will bring her to her knees.

Uraya is desperate to live in peace. Having finally escaped the queen of the south, her goal is to vanish - to leave the war in the Twin Realms and start a new life.

But to get her freedom she must work with the most intolerable dragonlord across the Realms.

Known for reducing women into simpering worshipers, Sethorn ruins the lives of any woman he desires.

Uraya refuses to be his plaything…

And her defiance fuels his intense captivation with her.

In an effort to maintain her quest for serenity, Uraya is forced to bargain with him, but Sethorn rouses a sinful craving that he dominates.

Primal attraction erupts into savage, carnal hunger.

When the queen complicates their mission, Uraya realizes she is on the brink of losing not just the peace she has always dreamed of but every part of herself.

And if she doesn’t evade Sethorn’s obsessive claim on her, he will drag her to a fate of his choosing.

A LAIR SO FATEFUL is the fourth book in The Last Dragorai, an epic fantasy romance series. This series can be read as standalones but will be better enjoyed if read in order. Includes romance of a dark nature and a HEA.

4.5 Smut Scale Stars

All I have to say is...hello smut scale spank bank.

Because, let's be honest, that's why I am here for this delicious shit. And this series is just Grade A smut spank bank material, my friends.

description

I mean, good grief, it has omegaverse AND dragons. It's like Zoey Ellis is trying to slay me.

Not since book one have I loved an installment in this series as much. In fact, it might even be a close tie for first. The forced...proximity I loved from book one was present and highly accounted for in this one too.

Thaaaaaank you all that's holy.

Again, I loved every second of this. Kudos to you, Ms. Ellis. I can't WAIT for Khyros' book.

These dragons love to claim their prize and horde their treasure. haha Love these dragorai. The more difficult to aquire the treasure, the more valuable. He is always asking her to explain herself or castigating her for her insolence or disobedience. xD
"I want her to beg and plead for my mercy at her every disrespect. I want her to think of nothing but me; only eat what I tell her, only sleep when I tell her… And live on her fucking knees for her insolence!”
The women in the harems of the lair remind me of the Bacchantes, how they worship their master.

Zoey Ellis never really disappoints... the world building is great and the narration of the story flows pleasantly but most of all my favorite thing about reading her stories is the steam factor is always 💣
This author goes alll in and it's always a pleasure because it's a given she doesn't shy away from the super detailed sometimes hardcore (and dubcon) delicious stuff 😇 which always makes me super excited to pick up her new books LOL.

That said, I'll have to be honest and say my favorite series of hers to this day remains the Myth of Omega one followed soon after by The Beholden Duet. Those are, in my humble opinion, her best works and can't really be compared to this one.
One reason that could be, aside from the fact that I personally think the heroes here seem to lack the ultimate insanity factor and mean streak that define a true alpha, it really REALLY bothers me that throughout all The Last Dragorai books, each and every hero has a harem and even tho once the mcs meet they remain faithful and obsessed to their mate, it's brought up thousands different times and ways how many women are always there ready to be available to be used and fucked (specifically in this book, the hero was known for how of a manwhore he is and how desired).
Ugh. not something I'm interested in continuously reading!! especially when of course the heroine remains untouched or unexperienced 😒 talk about double standards...
That said, it still was a pleasant fast-paced and easy to read fantasy omegaverse romance.

Suggested (but not required) to read all books from the series in order to better understand the whole story.

My Review

Absolutely loved this my favourite so far it’s fantasy omegaverse and comes complete with dragons hot Alpha males and some steamy make-outs it also has a decent plot as well. Each book has a separate couple at its centre but there is an ongoing story so does need to be read in order.

This definitely has a darker flavour than some of its predecessors which I appreciated. I’ve been looking forward to learning more about the Dragorai alpha Sethorn as what I’d learned previously intrigued me. Well I certainly wasn’t disappointed he delivered on all of that delicious darkness and control that he initially promised. His character is definitely much more severe than the other clan brothers and he runs his lair in a manner that initially seemed quite shocking. His Kon’aya afford him complete adoration and seem to live and exist only for his attention.

From the minute Sethorn encounters Uraya he wants her for his lair. She manages to equally attract and infuriate him with what he perceives as her complete lack of respect and defiant nature. But as a guest of the clan his hands are mostly tied until that is he’s tasked with assisting Uraya in rescuing her brother the collateral the queen has been using to control Uraya.

Now Sethorn and Uraya will need to play nice together and as she moves into his lair battle lines are drawn Uraya being more than a worthy opponent and matching her alpha in every way that matters.

This was volatile and passionate and very sexy these two have so much chemistry and charisma. They were well matched both in and out of the bedroom and I loved how spontaneous there interactions were that scene in the strategy room omg talk about combustible.

Sethorn slowly grew on me some of his earlier actions were borderline questionable and he is so intense but he did evolve so much throughout the course of this and definitely felt contrite for certain behaviours of his after the fact his nature with Uraya is very much one of action before thought acting on his emotions in the now which is actually a complete contrast to his usual meticulous methodical manner of strategy and control. He is definitely not an easy alpha but it’s obvious by the end of this just how much he does care. He did a complete 360 in regards to Uraya.

Uraya has not had an easy life controlled from a young age by the queen her life has never been her own her path is always about someone else’s agenda so she struggles somewhat with what she perceives as control and authority never wanting to be put in that position again. Discovering she’s Sethorn’s mate makes her feel that she is again dancing to another’s whim. She’s a strong stubborn individual but she needed to be if she was ever going to be able to match her new alpha and command his respect. I also thought that Sethorn made exactly the correct call for there future allowing Uraya the control she desperately needed to embrace there bond.

The plot was also good and moved at a swift pace we get to catch up with past characters and their mates and some bread crumbs are sprinkled for the final instalment of the series. This was well written highly imaginative with some fantastic world building this author always delivers consistently. Another fantastic addition and a series I definitely recommend reading if you like this particular genre. I voluntary reviewed a copy of A Lair so Fateful. (The Last Dragorai #4)

This Lady tamed the Lady Killer!

Uraya is one tough cookie. Sethorn vowed he would make her worship him, but in the end he bowed at her feet. I loved this installment, and this series as a whole!!

Sethorn was the beautiful one. The God like Alpha who all the women threw themselves at just for a small chance to serve him in some way. But Sethorn also was a cunning strategist, planning everything down to the minutest detail. So he was annoyed when he couldn't get the mouthy Omega Uraya off of his mind. Sethorn was determined to break her like all the rest.

Uraya wasn't impressed by Sethorn and definitely not looking forward to working with him. She has one thing on her mind....to rescue Tivv. The dragorai clan has committed to helping her as a favor, since Uraya helped rescue Oshali from the Queen. If they can also take out the Queen at the same time, then icing on the cake. Uraya is forced to live in Sethorn's lair to help plan and relay her knowledge of the Queen. The love-hate chemistry, tension, and sparks fly from there.

Oh yeah, I loved this. Watching Sethorn and Uraya trying to out think and one up each other, all while hate fucking was delicious. Together they were primal and intense. Though both thought they were keeping themselves unemotional and detached not realizing they were building this great relationship the whole time. But....things don't always go as planned. Hiccups arise. Sethorn thinks Uraya's no different to him than any other woman, and Uraya thinks she can do better on her own. They almost lose everything before they even have a chance to realize what they have.

This one was so good. We are getting closer to figuring out a way to get rid of the King and Queen once and for all. (Though I hope the Queen is a crispy critter!) I'm so excited that Oshali has uncovered some clues to where Khyros' dragon might be. I have my theories and I can't wait to see if I'm right!!

Even though this was an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Oof, that first sex scene was ... FIRE.

The beginning part of the book was slightly dull but after the contract, it started to build up. Though, I kinda wish it was a bit longer and wish we could get more plot with the queen. Like smut is nice but I like it more with a plot.

“From you, Uraya, I want everything.”

This is the fourth book in this series and I would be happy to be thrown off a cliff if it meant Sethorn would catch me. This was Sethorn and Uraya's story and I LOVED it. It was significantly better than the last book and it was evident that a lot of time and detail went into creating this story.

Uraya is a warden to the Queen against her will and when she finally escapes her, she is captured by the sexy as sin Dragorai Sethorn. Since Uraya helped the Dragorai in the last book, she is kind of a guest but kind of spoils of war for Sethorn and they have offered her an olive branch. Give them information on the Queen and they will assist her in rescuing someone of importance to her.

In order to complete her mission and leave and live in peace, she has to work with the arrogant bastard and she challenges him at every turn. Sethorn is not prepared for the formidable female and gets knocked on his ass when he discovers she is more than just a warm hole.

“You are in my bed every night. You’ve climaxed on my cock, on my fingers, on my tongue. I have knotted you many times over as if you are mine. I constantly wonder what will be next to come out of your disobedient mouth and crave the intimate taste of you constantly...”

Both Sethorn and Uraya come together in a fiery passion and must work together if either want a future. But where Sethorn is sure of what he wants, Uraya still has obstacles to overcome. Will Uraya choose Sethorn in the end? Will Sethorn change his ways for Uraya?

As I said, this was awesome. The world building was fantastic, the foreshadowing for the coming battle was intense and the crumbs for the last book was intriguing. Sethorn was a darker Dragorai than the others but I think he's been my favorite. He had a dangerous edge to him that I found absolutely delicious and I loved the way he was with Uraya and the way he fell for her. Uraya was refreshing and vibrant...the perfect match for Sethorn and his dragon.

If you have read this series, you'll love this one. If you haven't started this series I highly recommend it, especially if you're into dragons and fantasy worlds with lots of steam, knotting, action and suspense and badass heroines and possessive alpha males.

3.5 stars. While this wasn't a home run for me, I see many enjoying this. My favorite books in this series have been book 1 & book 3, A Lair So Sinful & A Lair So Primal. I think this is the kind of series where everyone will end up having their favorites.

What I liked:

Zoey went all out writing an arrogant Alphahole with a god complex. The dubcon was pretty serious too. Unlike the other Alphas in their harems, this one has definitely been fully using his harem (except for the past 2 months🤡), which I found pretty realistic.

Uraya was likable. I enjoyed her spirit, and how the author gave her talents that would make her not just a valuable mate, but future member of the clan.

The smut was smoking hot 🔥🔥🔥 sans the tossing the salad and licking the armpits, nostrils, and toes part 🤢 I can't fully hate, because these dragorai men have lived for centuries. It makes sense to me they'd be down to get that nasty. Just....maybe if you're going to pick between licking toes/armpits/nostrils or tossing the salad....maybe pick one or the other? Putting all of that in the same paragraph took me out of the story; ruined the immersion. Beyond that one paragraph the smut was truly A+, deserves 4 stars by itself.

What I didn't like so much:

The MMC's dialogue occasionally didn't feel realistic and the author dipped slightly back into her habit of using exposition in dialogue. Occasionally while reading the MMC's dialogue it felt like he was explaining the situation to the reader vs. authentically communicating with Uraya.

I wanted to read more about the dragon. I enjoyed that from the last book, and I'm hopeful we'll get more stuff about the dragon in the next book.

If you're looking for MF omegaverse smut with a possessive alphahole and dubcon, I recommend this. While a standalone, it's best if you've at least read book 1.

Since I'd quickly gotten through the past three books in one go after being fashionably late to this series (lol), Sethorn’s novel took a little bit of time to sink in after such a long gap.

For the initial dozen pages or so, my brain was point blank as I tried to recall the point at which the previous installment had ended at, until everything clicked together once Oshali's escape from Queen’s palace was detailed.

Owing to this initial blindness in regard to the storyline, I might have found it a tiny bit difficult to get used to Uraya & Sethorn but once the duo went on with their banters & sexual escapades after getting together under the same lair, everything smoothened out. I feel like it is imperative to point out that Uraya is definitely different compared to the previous female counterparts of the dragorai clan.
---“I love you.”

“Nothing to say? Are you speechless?”

“That is the best compliment I have ever received,” he admitted.

“That can’t be true,” she said, laughing. “You’ve had women in love with you for centuries.”

“But this is the only time I’ve ever loved one back.”

• Part of The Last Dragorai series.
• Hard to read it as a standalone.
• Ongoing sub-plot.

I'm really enjoying this series of stand-alones. There is that overall story arc that reads through all the books in this series as the main male characters are brothers through their dragons not blood. (How else would you be a brother?!🤔) But it's nice to read a story that isn't a trilogy or a duet. It seems everything lately has to be that way and there is nothing wrong with that is the character and story deserves that. I just appreciate an author like ZEllis, who in the past wrote series books, didn't feel the need to push each of these characters stories into multiple books just because that is what she didn't in the past. She let's her work speak for itself and it does.

It tells its story very well not only continuing on moving the overall arc plot, but telling the story of the dragon brother finally finding a mate, a female he is able to breed with. Like his brothers, they thought all the females of their species were long dead like all female dragons - hunted down and used for their magic. But like any omega, she is going to feisty and a hard one to win over.

Yes this is a standalone, but it makes more sense if read in order as there are some events that take place after books 2 and 3.

I received a free copy of this book via Cherrylily ARCs and am voluntarily leaving a review.

*4 alpha asshole stars*

Damn, I was just complaining few days ago how all male characters lately have become real life golden retrievers. I am together with one and he is wonderful! But, when I grab my books, I wanna have that fucking asshole whom I will taser to death in real life.

Oh boy, when H threw h off the cliff, I was like, wow this is a new level of asshole right here. There are two authors who can write assholes like no other: Zoey Ellis and Whitney G! I know I can count on them when I feel suffocated by all the golden retrievers with greenest flags ever.

This was so good and enjoyable read! I have last book to read from this series and then to the new duet.

🔸 h is 28
🔸 H is ancient
🔸 ow drama - there are women kneeling all over the place half naked and waiting for him to notice them
🔸 no cheating ( when H sees h first time he does not touch any of the willing women in his lair- that is 2 months before he finally can get her to his lair)
🔸 no om drama
🔸 H is extremely jealous, possessive and controlling
🔸 h is strong and fights against him in her own smart way
🔸 triggers: h was 13 y old when queen captures her and forces her to be her warden. It is mentioned and hinted she was VERY young (underage) when one of queens guards raped her ( thankfully it was her only time), mentions of other warden being raped aka queen gives them to her soldiers
🔸 part of a series and needs to be read as one, not standalone
🔸 HEA with h going to heat

A Lair So Fateful by Zoey Ellis is the fourth book in the Last Dragorai series and it features Sethorn and Uraya. Both characters have been featured in previous books, specifically in A Lair So Loyal when Uraya saved Oshali from the Queen and Sethorn has been a reoccurring character in the series due to his status as a centuries old dragorai alpha of the Vattoro clan. While Uraya and Sethorn's book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the books in order because they all build on each other. The world is rich and full of nuance while the characters are equally special and interesting because of their personalities, backgrounds, and purposes. I had been anticipating Sethorn and Uraya's story ever since we were given a glimpse of their push/pull and "antagonistic" relationship in A Lair So Primal. We were never given a reason as to why they were always fighting and now we know why—it's related to their first meeting with each other.
"You're the challenge I always needed. I've been looking for you for centuries."

Although Uraya and Sethorn had a lot of issues, mostly due to her stubbornness and his arrogance, I thought they were interesting characters and were excellent foils to each other. When they argued, it was always intense, exciting, and electric. There's no denying that these two have a lot of chemistry together and Zoey Ellis always excels at evoking the sexual tension between them as well. It certainly made for some spicy scenes. I especially loved the agreement scene when Uraya tried to make a deal with Sethorn and went toe-to-toe with him to get what she wanted. The subsequent scenes we got from that was incredibly erotic and dirty. Uraya was always pushing Sethorn to the edge and he was simply not used to her disobedience and unwillingness to worship him. On the other hand, Uraya was constantly annoyed by Sethorn because he was dominant, overbearing, and used to getting his way. It was quite entertaining to see their relationship play out.

"I set out to make you worship me and I quickly realized that you were making me worship you."

In the end, I really enjoyed Uraya and Sethorn's story because it had everything I wanted—a great cast of characters, twists and turns in the plot, a romance that was super steamy and angsty at times, and dragons. The story does take a super interesting turn with the discovery of Khyros' missing dragon, the oldest brother and head of the Vattoro clan. I absolutely can't wait to find out what will happen next in the story because Khyros will finally be reunited with his dragon and meet his mate! Fans of Zoey Ellis and Ruby Dixon's Fireblood Dragons series will not be disappointed by this series and book because it has all the makings of a fantastic fantasy romance with erotic and omegaverse elements. I highly recommend this book to those who like the "enemies to romance" and "soul mates" tropes with an alpha and arrogant hero who will stop at nothing to keep and claim his defiant and stubborn heroine.

I bow in apology before you Lord Sethorn

🙈 I couldn't see any way for Sethorn to be likable
I am just being honest - from the beginning of the series, he has come across as a heartless, self-centered egotistical brut - because that is how he projects himself.
The way he acted in the war room, the kneeling, the discussion with his brother about Uraya -
All these events only cemented my first impressions
Until...
The room
His response when SHE knelt
*sigh*
So yeah maybe an old dragorai can learn to bend just a bit

Uraya was not only stubborn she was smart and she had a plan to get around the overbearing "master" while still getting him to rescue her friend
Okay so maybe the plan isn't going quite how she thought it would
Just a small blip
But hey
She's got this...

These two
I swear every time they clashed I was never sure who was going to come out on top - literally and figuratively
Getting to watch Sethorn knocked down a peg, or four was quite satisfying
And Uraya?
I think she's where she was always meant to be she just needed a little help seeing the bigger picture

I'm so excited for the next in the series and I truly hope the author continues with the cousins' stories

I found Uraya a little harder to relate to than previous female main characters in this series and I struggled to like Sethorn too, initially. Once I got to know the characters though and understood their motivations, as the book progressed, I found the story quite engrossing. The world building is wonderful and quite unique, in this series. I especially like how each lair is run so differently - much like their rulers, each have their own little quirks and idiosyncrasies! Towards the end of the book there are hints for how the final story might play out and I’m really excited to read it!

3.9 ish! Out of all the brothers, this one was the most blatantly sexist one. Like right in your face and not in a good j/p way. Thé h seemed Uber irritating with her careless remarks and actions at the very start and end of the book ( where they fly to save her brother and she keeps on pushing them to venture further despite seeing it could be dangerous for all three of them. How will you save him if you are dead you dumbfuck). Apart from that I liked the book a good deal. Not much heat action :/

Uraya is a servant for a Queen set on destroying the land around her in what seems to be an endless war. As she escapes the Queen, she is rescued by a Dragorai, Sethorn. She is taken to the Dragorai's lair (after some time spent in her friend I'mya and her mate's lair). There, Uraya and Sethorn are forced to work together in order to free Uraya's friend she left behind.

I think I'm being quite generous in giving this book two stars because I'd rather give it zero. Sethorn was completely unlikeable and unforgivable. I know what I'm getting when I read dominant alpha books. Even with the domineering behavior, there is a level of charm and chemistry to the character. Sethorn had none of that. I couldn't see the chemistry between Sethorn and Uraya beyond them fighting and having sex, neither of which seemed to require much chemistry at all. Regarding the latter, it's not like Uraya had much say in the matter.

What I did find enjoyable were the scenes where they worked together strategizing. Sethorn did seem to take her concerns into account most times and asked her questions about her life. He did seem genuinely interested in her and her life...when he wasn't making assumptions. Regarding the actual conflict however, I didn't see the urgency. The queen is moving to attack, there is a raging war, and her friend is in trouble...where is the urgency? The stakes? At times, it felt like it was all an after thought.

I like Uraya for the most part. She was a character trying to make the best of a bad situation but my God did this woman have no backbone. After Sethorn did the unthinkable
aka pushed her off a cliff seemingly to her death because...he was jealous that she had another man in her life?
, I expected her to be more resolute in her decisions but it never felt like Sethorn had to work for her. She fell at his feet every time, even after he did the unthinkable. We're told (by Sethorn of all people) that she's this headstrong and confident character but honestly, I didn't see it.

All in all, this book had pockets of good storytelling but they were far and in between. The sex scenes were fun to read and I wanted more of the war conflict to shine through a bit more.

If you’ve been reading this series, run and get this one, because there is nothing more fun or more enticing than two very smart people trying to outsmart one another. Dragon rider Sethorn is smart and gorgeous, and a lot of things have come easily to him because of that. The one person who won’t? Uraya, who’s on a desperate quest to save the only person who’s given her life meaning, Tivv. So when she helps the dragorai to save one of their mates, she convinces them to rescue Tivv, who’s trapped in the lands of the evil queen Uraya was forced to serve. But Sethorn, who saved Uraya’s life, wants more than just to help Uraya….

There’s a lot to unpack in that paragraph, so if you haven’t read the rest of this series, this is not the book to start with. You need to understand why Sethorn and Uraya are in the mental places they’re in to make sense of A Lair So Fateful. But they engage in a glorious ballet dance of mental duels, complete with contracts, careful wordings, one-upmanship, and off-the-charts sensual scenes.

This is one of my favorite reads in the series because Uraya is so strong. She and Sethorn are equals, which makes their worthiness for one another clear to everyone but them. Both are strategic thinkers, and that gets them in trouble—they strategize so much that they lose track of open communication, and that costs them.

Ellis is firing on all cylinders in this series. She’s built a fascinating fantasy romance world, and when you add strong-willed protagonists and a welcome return of the rest of the dragorai couples, you’ve got a great read in A Lair So Fateful.

4th in the series:
Sethorn, the gorgeous and most adored of the dragori, falls for Uraya, one of the Queen's personal guards. She is only there to get help to rescue her brother, but he has other plans for her. The two of them make a binding pact to ensure Sethorn will help, but she has no idea what this will cost her. I love both of them! There's plenty of resistance, fighting, sex, and magic to complicate everything. This was a really good story and sets everything up for the last dragori brother's story - coming soon, I hope. Give me dragons any day!

Uraya was a Warden to the Queen of the southern territory. When Oshali entered the southern territory to complete her mission for the Mehya Guardians, she had no idea that the Queen was her aunt and only living heiress. When the Queen found a tracker had been put on Oshali by the hated Dragori, she had Oshali imprisoned and planned to forcefully have her impregnated to continue their line.

Uraya had been in service to the Queen since she was fifteen years old and it was realized that she could feel magic giving the Queen an advantage over the King of the northern territory. Their war against each other had been going on for decades and even though they have decimated the lands with their magic each was determined to be the winner and rule both territories.

Uraya agreed to help Oshali escape the Queen's imprisonment in exchange for rescuing her friend from the Queen's clutches. As they are escaping Oshali doubles over in pain and loses her concentration in her casting spell and as they fall to certain death she is surprised when she is caught mid-air by a strong arm and deposited on the back of a dragon.

Another great book is this series! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Sethorn is enraged when I'mya invites Uraya to stay in his brother Nyro's lair as it is he who saved her and according to their rules now his property. He hated even more when he had to promise that Uraya be treated as a guest.

But, Sethorn was determined to get his way and had a Mehyu Guardian record an agreement between him and Uraya. His help rescuing her friend Tivv from the Queen of the southern territories in return for Uraya agreeing to his terms. A contract bound by magic.

Of all of the women in this series, Uraya is the most knowledgeable on the magic being used against the King & Queen's own people and the danger their magic will have on the last of the dragorai. Sethorn is determined to bypass their agreement and Uraya is just as determined to rescue Tivv and leave Sethorn's lair.

This book is full of action, danger and intrigue. This series is very dark and may be offensive to some so if you have issues with alpha men who are determined to have their way no matter what it may not be your type of book. This book is highly erotic and smoking hot. As great as this series has been to date, I am so looking forward to Khyros's story. The suspense leading up to his book has been wonderful and Zoey Ellis has given us no clues to the location of his missing dragon.

Highly recommend!
