Indiana Bones is back for a second dogtastic detective escapade!
Once again he and his bestest friend, Aisha, have to gather their wits, courage and plenty of snacks to sniff out clues and solve a twisty mystery.
Still on the hunt for the Avenger’s lost treasure, the intrepid travelers set off on another trek, this time to the Temple of Diana at Ephesus. But nothing is ever simple for our heroes, and the slippery Serpent and stinky Ringo are still hot on their tails, determined to thwart their every move. An irresistible comical adventure.
"Funny and clever . . . A heartfelt adventure story." — Kirkus
This chapter book tells the story of a dog and his best friend, a girl named Aisha, who work together to solve mysteries. Crime fighting dogs are often a hit with children so I can definitely see this one being a popular book!
Chapters are about 15-20 pages long , with small intricate border pictures on some pages. Some of the text is written at a fairly high level, so despite being a beginning chapter book, it would require a slightly higher reading level. For example, phrases like "stern-looking gentleman who placed his luxurious luggage..." or "They were so engrossed, neither of them noticed the mysterious blonde lady...." are quite common throughout. The text is relatively large though, which will make it less intimidating for beginning readers. I would recommend this book for children who are able to read beginning chapter books are do not rely on pictures and have a large bank of sightwords and vocabulary. The content is likely appropriate for children in the 6-9 age range and I would say the text is likely in the 8-11 age range. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I'm currently reading this to my daughter at bedtime, we are only 2 chapters in and I had to come and write a review. Was this book not edited? It is really not well-written at all. How did this author manage to get so many books published? The metaphors are cringey, eg "happier than a pair of chubby butt cheeks in a pants shop". What does that even mean?? No character can just "said" something, they have to "yell" or "growl" or "hiss" in every conversation; also someone can't just leave the room they have to slink out of it. Sorry but just throwing as many verbs and adverbs and adjectives into each sentence as you can isn't a mark of good writing. I'm editing it as I'm reading it to just make the story bearable
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The humour was lost on my daughter when I said Indiana Bones is a funny name for a dog. The book was quite wordy, despite being a children's book. Sentences were long, and winding, with words like: eminent, slithery, meandering. I think my daughter, age 6 is a bit too young for this book despite being an excellent reader. It will be better suited for kids age 9 to 12.
