Would you like the long or the short version of my bio?
The short? You got it.
I write steamy gay romance books and I love it. I also love reading books. Books are everything.
How was that?
A little more detail? Gotcha.
I started writing my first stories when I was a teen…on a freaking typewriter. I still have these, and they’re adorably romantic. And bad, haha. Fear of failing kept me from following my dream to become a romance author, so you can imagine how proud and ecstatic I am that I finally overcame my fears and self doubt and did it. I adore my genre because I love writing and reading about flawed, strong men who are just a tad broken..but find their happy ever after anyway.
My favorite books to read are pretty much all MM/gay romances as long as it has a happy end. Kink is a plus… Aside from that, I also read a lot of nonfiction and not just books on writing. Popular psychology is a favorite topic of mine and so are self help and sociology.
Hobbies? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Just kidding. I love traveling, spending time near the ocean, and hiking. But I love books more.

This was a last chance for this author, but the writing is just... not good. Super awkward and stilted, and I just don't think I can read a whole book of it.
I don’t read a lot of contemporaries if there’s not a heavy dose of hurt/comfort involved. But I do like Nora Phoenix’s writing and I heard Raf and Brendan made an appearance in this, so I thought I’d give it a go.
And this was a nice low angst fun read! I really liked it. At first I wasn’t sold on the fact that Fox was Dutch, but besides a made up Dutch word in the first few pages, it was okay. The names were actually Dutch and the rest was pretty accurate.
Fox de Vries is the captain of a cruise ship. He has 10 weeks on and then 10 weeks off. Since he’s just about to start his 10 weeks on, he is looking for a quick hookup to get him through those 10 weeks.
When he meets Brantley in a bar, Fox is immediately smitten. The two really hit it off, and the night they spend together doesn’t really feel like a hookup. But they both figure they will never see each other again, so they say goodbye anyway.
But what do you know, Brantley is the new hotel manager of the ship Fox works on! When the two find this out, they are determined to keep things professional. But they can’t seem to stay away from each other….
I really liked the immediate intensity between these two. I’ve read many hookup scenes in books and they all feel a bit overly sexual. But this had more emotion, and I loved that.
These guys were very sweet together, and while I did miss my hurt/comfort, it was a nice, light in between book.
From performing CPR, to a hot sex filled night to remember, our two men, Bentley and Silver are left satisfied, but yearning for more. The next time they see each other, they are speechless. Dutch born, Silver, 47, a salt 'n pepper haired hottie, is Captain Fox of the Cruise Ship where Brantley, 27, handsome and accomplished, no nonsense, is a new assistant hotel director and coordinator.
They hide their acknowledgement of each other, but talk privately later and decide to be just friends, rules and all. But, as we see, their dynamic draw to each other is inevitable. These two are made for each other, and sizzle just being in each other's presence.
The gay themed cruise is fun, with a drag queen, a pair who are adorable Daddy/little couple, and many others, but our focus is our men. The ups and downs of ship life, some offshore sightseeing, and we wonder what happens at the end of the trip. Later an emergency calls Fox to the Netherlands, and Brantley does what he feels it the right thing to do.
This is a fun story, with just the right amount of hot sexiness, fun, terrific MCs, and romantic thoughts. Enjoy !
Fox and Bentley meet accidently at a club just before they start his 10-week rotation on the cruise ship. One is a seasoned captain the other a new hire. Neither man have ever met before. The company they work for has rules that are heavily enforced, that there is to be no fraternizing with the staff or passengers, and everyone essentially reports to the captain. When there is a medical emergency at the club that Bentley assists with the help another club guest....Fox. Fox and Bentley find they would like to spend some time getting to know one another and leave together. The guest who is now Fox's date for the night said his name was Bentley. He's quite a bit younger than Fox, but they seem to fit together really, really well. Fox is feeling a bit bad that there can’t be any follow up, but there is his job, and he is going to be gone for 10-weeks. The other guest, Fox's hook-up, is also going to be busy because he is starting a new position the next day. All is going well. Captain Fox DeVries...who goes by his nickname, "Silver" because for his premature gray hair which is more silver in color... loves his job. He's really young to be the captain of a huge cruise ship but his family was into the nautical business back as far as he can remember. Things are going great until he meets the new Assistant Hotel Director on the very ship that is captaining ...who, you guessed it...just happens to be his one-night stand, Bentley, aka Brantley Phipps. Can you say AWAKWARD??? Fox and Brantley try to figure out how to manage things. They did decide to spend some time together when the ship was in port for 24-hours. Fox runs a tight ship and he’s not about to break his own rules no matter how much he likes Brantley, so they agree to be friends with flirting but NOTHING ELSE! You know how long that worked. This is a really sweet sometimes frustrating story. It’s not very long, but we learn a lot about both main characters. On the surface, it seems like they have great chemistry, but maybe that’s all there is. As the story goes along, they develop a real friendship and mutual respect for each other as people. They respect and support each other's choices as well as other aspects of their individual lives. The evolution of their relationship over the course of the story is fast but interesting and believable. The two narrators were new to me, but they did a fantastic job of giving the characters voice.
For the first 25% of the book, Captain Silver Fox was pretty strong. Brantley and Fox meet at a club, hook up, and later discover that Fox is actually the captain of the cruise ship on which Brantley has just started working - and is therefore his boss. Forbidden relationship? I'm sold. Yet, everything after that just goes downhill; though tension does exist, the characters don't treat it with the sort of respect it deserves, making me feel like it wasn't actually a big deal to begin with. The conclusion wraps everything up very quickly, essentially erasing the (pretty minimal tbh) angst that you have to sit through to get there.
I also have some issues with a Daddy/boy couple that keeps appearing who, it turns out, are from another book by Nora Phoenix. This crossover makes me roll my eyes, but whatever, it happens. Now, I don't read Daddy kink for a variety of reasons (most of which revolve around "it's unrealistic"), but what bothers me the most about this couple is that the boy acts so juvenile that it feels illegal, kind of? Idk, it just makes me uncomfortable. I am personally of the opinion that Daddy kink (specifically, the way that it is written in most m/m romances) is one of those kinks that needs to be clearly marked so that readers can avoid it if necessary... But you know, live laugh love or whatever idk.
Anyways, the story is dull; the writing needed editing; there's not much of a climax; it's not worth a read.
Nora Phoenix can often take a subjective I don’t care for and turn it into one of my favorite books. She did that with “Press” which I thought was an incredible book.
This time she took a subject I love (age gap) and wrote a book I thought was just ok. I often complain that her books have way too much inner monologue. I’m not a fan of inner monologue, but if a story is good enough I can overlook it. It really bothers me in this book. I also didn’t like the fact that Fox and Brantley were breaking the same rules that Fox was punishing other crew members for doing.
The Captain of a 🚢 is pulling a crew member into a storage closet for a quickie, after he reprimands other crew members for doing the same thing, possibly firing one? 🤨 Who is running the ship with hundreds on board that you are responsible Captain while you're getting it on in the closet? Is it just me or did my respect for you both and overall interest in you as fascinating characters go from one hundred to zero in this moment? So much inner dialogue on whether or not we should misbehave, not because we see something more. Perhaps falling in love, no we just want to fuck. Cause its all about the hookup. 🤨 How do you function? Can you picture the Captain of a 🛳 actually doing this while you are a passenger? This went from fun to disappointing in record time. Hit an iceberg and it's your own damn fault.
I'm rating * because I don't need to finish this to know it's bad.
This book is part of the Valentine’s Inc Cruises series, but each story is a standalone tied together by theme, and so I had no trouble reading this one without having read the others.
This story has one of my favorite set ups with two guys hooking up for some anonymous sex, only to realize the next day that they actually work together (I call it the Grey’s Anatomy trope). Nora Phoenix uses the set up to great success here by giving us a steamy, sexy start to the book as these two men just burn up the sheets during their night together. What makes it work so well is that it is clear that for all the hookup is hot for both men, there is something more there that each man feels. I could believe that they made a connection beyond just sex, one that makes it near impossible to give each other up. And that is where this book really shines, as wow does the chemistry burn off the page here. I could just feel the intensity, the longing, the PINING, as poor Fox and Brantley are desperate for one another and can’t act on it.
Nora Phoenix's contribution to the multi-author series Valentine's Inc. Cruises is Shipping the Captain.
Damn, this one starts off with an eye-opening scene, as Fox has to try to save a life. Following that is a hot hook-up. Fox and Brantley are definitely hot together. With one hook-up, both men want more.
One of my favorite scenes is the rimming scene during their hook up. I love the way the author develops this scene, and the emotion involved.
Fox has been burnt in the past, and now doesn't want to do repeats. He also doesn't get involved with anyone on his ship. Little does he know that Brantley is now working on his ship.
What follows is a fantastic forbidden romance. The two men can't resist one another. They are truly wonderful together, yet they know they can't be together. If you enjoy men who have to fight their feelings and hide their chemistry, you'll love this book.
Shipping the Captain is a sweet, feel-good romance. It's perfectly charming and a whole lot of fun. Definitely check this one out when you're in the mood for a fluffy, sexy read.
This was sample #6 for the evening, including one book I bought, couldn’t stand, and sent back for a refund. Apart from the hating-everything-I-have-tried issue, the other unexpected element is that cruises are my idea of hell. Particularly tropical ones. (Shudder). Fjords might be bearable?
I loved this story of two good people, who are devoted to their interesting careers, who fall in love while still being committed to doing the right thing. The environment is interesting, and so are the characters.
I'll admit I was not expecting this book to be so good. Actually made a bit teary in one part. What? Loved Fox and Brantley's story. Loved their sexy times. Loved their chemistry when they were desperately trying to stay away from each other. We got to spend most of our time on a gay cruise and I adored the characters we got to meet. I'm thinking the main guests we meet are from another book but I don't think I've read it. Not nearly as fluffy as I was expecting which was a huge bonus. Great read.
I think I've found a (almost) new favourite author. I would like this woman to have more standalone books because they seem to me an enjoyable and simple read between heavier books or series.
And I really love her writting style soooo much. It's so easy for me to understand everything (English is not my native language) but it doesn't mean it is bad. I can feel everything the MC have in their heads or hearts, I can empathize with their problems, and they are so well built and I love them even though the story is that short.
What happens when you have the hots for your boss and you cannot any circumstances be together? An emotional and hot roller coaster ride of emotions ensues! I really had no idea how this one would resolve itself and have an HEA but Nora does a perfect job in making an impossible situation probable. Loved the end!
I've been reading and listening to a lot of "heavy" books lately and needed this bit of low-angst fluffiness for a break. There were a few spots that could have been potentially harmful to our protags, but they all worked out with little drama.
A relaxing read (or, "listen" rather, as I enjoyed this story in audiobook format).
This was a sweet, but not too fluffy, age-gap relationship. There is also a boss-employee situation (although the two meet prior to knowing that) and plenty of chemistry between the two MCs. The story could have used some more proofing, but overall it kept me interested and was a good read to lighten things up after a few heavier books.
A one night stand that turns into something more, but what do they do when one is the boss and the other is his employee and they aren't supposed to mix? Fox is one of the youngest Captains to pilot a cruise ship and he's damn proud of it. He's been on the sea since he was a kid in the Netherlands. His father being a captain himself. His life was the sea. But sometimes the weeks aboard took a toll. So when it was time to be off, it was time to hook up. He was the boss, so he couldn't on the ship. He's been looking around the bar and found a few that interested him, but one in particular. And when they had to help a patron who had a heart attack, they decided after to pounce on the chemistry they were both feeling. Both gave fake names and had the night of nights to remember. Neither would forget the other ever. It was the best night they ever had. At least until the met again on the ship and Fox found out his one night stand was one of his employees, hotel assistant director Brantley. And the pull was just as strong. They fought as hard as they could. They even tried to be just friends but it was killing them both. But Brantley had to keep his head about him. He didn't want his heart broken. But too late. He was falling. He didn't know Fox was as well. They ended up succumbing to their chemistry, acknowledging they were more when they had to make an emergency trip to the Netherlands. But going back to the ship was going to be a problem because of the rules. Would they be able to stay together or would one have to quit even though neither wanted to or would ask that of the other? I felt so bad for these two. It's rare to find such a connection in so many different levels and when you find it, you don't want to let it go. Especially when in the bedroom it's electrifying. Not having known who the other truly was, it would have been hard to leave each other behind but they did. And remeeting in the ship….talk about awkward. And magnetic. The pull was still there but they both had to be professional. Man, I don't know if I could have done it. I'd want to be climbing them like a tree lol. And Brantley wanted to lol. Well Fox did too. He was vers as well so he loved to take as much as give and when they did that night it was the best ever. So yeah, I felt for them. Knowing both of their careers could be on the line, especially when both had worked so hard to be where they are. Definitely angsty. But so good. The chemistry, the intimacy. It's a good love story. The push and pull. I really enjoyed it. http://lovebytesreviews.com/
DNF. I was pushing through this, trying to convince myself I could weather a 5h audiobook even if I wasn't loving it, but at a bit past 50% I decided to stop kidding myself. I was feeling zero chemistry between the MCs despite their own frequent and insistent internal claims that they had 'never felt anything like this before'. Yadda. But what was really problematic for me was Fox--his lack of professionalism and the way he kept pushing Brantley (so do not like that name) to "fuck their feelings away." It would be one thing if Fox was a regular employee or crew member of this prodigious one-of-a-kind cruise ship, but he was the freaking captain. The same guy who, before he realized Brantley would be a member of his staff, went on and on internally about how important the ship's non-fraternization policies were. Once he caught sight of Brantley on board after their hook up though, all bets were off and he became an unprofessional horndog who acted inappropriately at every turn. It was pretty gross. It was when he pulled an unsuspecting Brantley into the broom closet that I had to tap out.
Beyond the train wreck that was Fox, I wasn't otherwise clicking with the book. It felt basic and uninspired and even though I didn't finish it, I could so easily predict how everything would play out. And while I seem to recall liking Liam DiCosimo's narration in the past, it felt stilted and completely unnatural here. Just one more thing throwing me out of any kind of groove with this book.
When I read the blurb, I was sure that this would be the book in the series, I would enjoy the most. Brantley is a young guy, who is offered a great job as an assistant hotel manager on a cruise ship. A few nights before he starts his new position he meets Fox, an older guy in a bar. Actually they connect, when another guy in the bar needs CPR and they work together until the paramedics arrive. What follows is an incredible night of sex and a deep connection between those two, but also the certainty that nothing more can come of it. Onboard the cruise ship Brantley is introduced to the captain, who of course is no one else than Fox. I loved this setup and it was fun to read, how hard it was for those two to keep their eyes and hands off each other. What I didn't expect was, that the story was more than the usual sex and fun in the sun romance. It had me hooked, and it was heartwarming to learn how Brantley was there for Fox when he really needed him. So I did get the fluffiness and sweetness I expected, but actually I really got more than that. It was completely satisfying, with a beautiful and strong HEA and I would actually rate this easily above average, surprisingly full 4 stars!
I have read a lot of Nora Phoenix's books and this one sure did not disappoint. The cover caught my eye while I was browsing more books by the author and once I read the synopsis I dove right in. I was not disappointment!!
Captain Silver Fox follows the lives of two cruise lines employees, one the ship captain and the other the ship's assistant hotel director. They meet and have a very steamy night together and all the while thinking they would never see each other again. But of where were they in for a surprise when it turns out Brantley (the assistant hotel director) is transferred on the ship that just happens to be captained by the silver fox.
Fox and Brantley are made for each other. After a one night stand leaves them both wanting more, them finding out they not only work on the same ship -- and that Fox is the captain -- makes things awkward for them, but fun for us.
Love that Fox is Dutch! Honestly, it only makes him hotter. He's a good man who knows what he wants in and out out he bedroom, and Brantley is is perfect match.
Though younger, Brantley has been through a lot and has worked good ass off to get where he is professionally. He's smart and determined. Fox is a gamble he didn't see coming, but he's too good for him to stay away for long.
As usual, Nora Phoenix writes love stories that are equally spicy and sweet. This is a wonderful romance that satisfies.
Lovely story where your one night stand turns out to be your new boss! I like that trope and it's handled deftly here.
Brantley and Fox make a cute couple and they do have some professional hurdles to jump before their HEA. The angst is at a low level and tricky situations are handled with maturity and proper communications. So kudos for that. We also get some info into the working of a cruise ship and sailing.
There were a few minor things about this book that irked me - the MCs using the word “baby” from the start, and there were a couple of scenes that cut off abruptly which had me wondering if I’d missed a page somehow when I hadn’t - otherwise I enjoyed this book and the characters. I really loved the depth of their relationship and the emphasis on their emotional connection.
