This is the first book about storytelling I’ve read that makes me feel like I could do it. I loved the emphasis on how stories are about connection not narrative. I’d recommend this to anyone who has kids or works with children.

I wish the contents were put up in a readily accessible manner. The language and the writing format didn't work for me.

I wanted tips and tricks; how to build stories; how to actually make story readaloud and narration fun and entertaining. Well, I didn't get what I was looking for.

Storytelling is more than what it literally is, it is establishing a connection with your children. The target audience of this well written book are parents, educators and caregivers. Each chapter is short, concise, has practice exercises and ends with a sample.

Spending quality time with children and instilling a sense of discipline, righteousness, empathy through storytelling can go a long way in creating a better tomorrow. Though we are all born storytellers, some hiccups like self doubt that stops us, can be won over by following the techniques mentioned.

Cómo contar historias es el producto de la sistematización de saberes y prácticas realizadas por Rose West y Sarosy, coautor@s del libro con una dilatada experiencia en educación y en el arte de narrar, quienes facilitan a los lectores una suerte de herramientas prácticas y probadas que posibilitarán la construcción de historias, las cuales tienen por objetivo, según l@s autor@s, "construir intimidad y confianza" (22), idea respaldada por estudios relacionados con la teoría del apego y la teoría de la mente.

El libro se constituye como un manual sencillo y directo, que entrega los principales ingredientes para estructurar y dar orden a la práctica oral de narrar historias, ya sean estas dirigidas a niños, niñas y adolescentes, o también a un grupo de amigos, familiares, vecinos, etc. Lo importante es atreverse y ejercitar la imaginación a partir de simples consejos entregados en el libro, el cual promueve esta práctica basado en el hecho de que posibilitaría la construcción de espacios significativos entre el narrador y los oyentes, descartando la primacía del contenido de la historia en sí.

Si bien el libro entrega insumos valiosos que pueden ser ejercitados por la mayoría de las personas, otorgando la oportunidad guiada de vincularse con los demás a partir de la oralidad, estimo que el texto, al estar principalmente orientado a padres y madres, excluye de forma errónea a otros participantes en los procesos de crianza y educación de niños, niñas y adolescentes. Erróneo debido a que gran parte del contenido del libro si puede ser utilizado por cualquier persona que quisiese utilizar la narración de historias para vincularse con l@s demás, perdiendo la oportunidad de establecer un público objetivo mucho más amplio que el expresado explícitamente en sus líneas. Como sugerencia, se podrían establecer capítulos específicos que estén orientados a adultos cuidadores, ampliando así los capítulos restantes al público general, que podrían utilizar los recursos del estudio en diversas modalidades y espacios.

Šią knygą čiupau tikėdamasi, kad rasiu atsakymą į klausimą, kaip bendrauti su vaikais daugiskaita - kaip pasiekti vaikų širdis, kai į biblioteką užsuka vaikų grupelės iš darželių bei mokyklų. Žodžiu, ėmiausi knygos darbiniais "sumetimais". Ar atsakymus radau? Ne visai.

BET. Čia radau patarimų ir, kas nudžiugino, praktinių užduočių, kurios paprastai, bet patraukliai išpurena lysvę sąmoningam bendravimui su SAVO vaiku. Kokia yra pasakų/pasakojimų nauda, kaip jų pagalba užmegsti ryšį, perduoti vertybes, pamokymus, patarimus ir pan. bei kaip tai padaryti, kad vaikai išgirstų ir nepurkštautų "mama sakė, tai nenoriu". Kaip kurti savus pasakojimus, kaip išmokyti save pasileisti į fantazijų pasaulį, kaip pasileisti nuo įprastos "racionalaus žmogaus grandinės", nebijoti pamatyti nykštukus, trolius ar kitas fantazijų būtybes, kurios GALI suteikti vaikui (ir mums) daugiau naudos realiame pasaulyje, nei įsivaizdavome. Tad, drįstu teigti, čia šiek tiek ir knyga "motyvatorė".

9 trumpi skyriai, kuriuos naudingiausia skaityti kasdien po vieną, kad įsisąmonint, kad atlikti užduotis ir tinkamai "išnaudoti" knygos idėją. Taip, aš taip ir padariau.

Labai patiko, bet parašiau 4⭐️ tik dėl to, kad taip ir neradau konkretaus atsakymo į sau iškilusį darbinį klausimą. Nors, manau, pasipraktikavus namuose ir įvaldžius šį meną su savo vaiku, išsispręstų ir galvosūkiai, kaip pasakoti istorijas vaikams didesniame ratelyje.

REKOMENDUOJU, jei niekada nė nesusimąstėte, kad kurti savus pasakojimus yra tobula priemonė, siekiant užmegsti tvirtą ryšį su vaiku - pabandykit, čia jums daug papasakos "kaip ir kodėl", kad, tikiu, užvertus knygą kils didelė pagunda įvesti šį tą naujo į savo kasdienybės rutiną.

I loved the messages that storytelling is most importantly about the snuggling connection between the storyteller and the child, that we can use stories to distract children suffering pain or trauma, and that we should mostly make up our own stories, instead of always relying on books.

I disliked the example stories, however, finding them boring and conventional. Animals and fairy tale characters can be useful, but human beings are infinitely fascinating too. Do most people have the imagination to make up stories? No, and a book can't teach it.

The book design is quite beautiful, but distracting and rather twee.

Storytelling is the foundation of humanity, stories passed down through generations is a crucial tradition that has shaped our knowledge of history, of humanity, of ourselves. All Children love stories and often plead for just one more story, this is not because they need a prize winning complicated narrative, rather they are simply asking for your attention. Understanding this is the basic foundation of How to Tell Stories to Children.

This book is simply written and a bit repetitive, I caught myself wondering if the authors remembered they were writing for adults in need of help to ensure they are able to provide that crucial bonding practice with a child they love.

Some of this book is useful but the way the narrative is told and the layout chosen for the information contained in this book is not ideal. If you read the introduction you can pretty much stop there and you'll have the most important advice this book contains, I wish there was more information on being creative or inspirational with crafting stories but did not get that from this book

With that being said it is a good jumping off point for adults who are terrified of telling stories, those whose mind goes blank when the inevitable demand for a story comes. I certainly found some enlightening information (mainly in the introduction) so encourage you to give it a read, just don't expect to gain a solid grip on entertainment.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy so I can share my honest opinions. Though not the best resource out there, I do not regret taking the time to read through it and hope that those who do read it get inspired based on this simple outline and seek other books on the artistic components of good storytelling.

A very simple book with simple concepts that is geared more towards busy parents who don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to practicing storytelling or a longer book explaining things. That said - I think it’s wonderful for those folks who need a bite-sized introduction but I would have love to have seen something that a goes a little more in-depth on the topic.

Šià knyga pirkau tik dėl nuolaidos :D ir nedėjau į jà itin dideliú vilčiú ir deja buvau teisi. Kažkiek buvo įdomios informacijos, tik manyčiau autoriai per daug “užsižaidė su savo pavyzdžiais”, nes jie tik blaškė ir erzino savo sudėtingumu ir detalumu. Galima buvo pateikti trumpiau, konkrečiau ir su mažiau detaliú.

Jau seniai, labai seniai taip stipriai motyvuojanti knyga buvo papuolusi man į rankas. Dažnai nutinka taip, jog skaitant mokomąsias (savistabos, meditacijos, rašymo ir pan.) knygas apima jausmas, jog jau skaičiau, jau girdėjau... Tačiau ši knyga parašyta ir sudaryta kitaip ir tuo pat labai paprastai, kas paverčia ją išties įspūdinga. Čia rasite atsakymus:
-Kodėl sinchronizuojasi pasakotojo ir klausytojo smegenų virpesiai?
-Kodėl suaugę dažnai vengia patys pasakoti istorijas savo vaikams?
-Kodėl žaidimas su kūdikiu „Kū kū“, taip pat yra trumpas pasakojimas, reiškiantis aš tave myliu, aš tave matau?

„Jak opowiadać historie dzieciom” wydana została przez Wydawnictwo To Tamto. Książka to poradnik skierowany do rodziców, który ma pomóc im rozpocząć przygodę z opowiadaniem swoim dzieciom historyjek. Osoby pracujące z dziećmi także wyciągną z niego mnóstwo wiedzy, bo autorzy właśnie tym zajmują się na co dzień.
Książka podzielona jest na dziewięć rozdziałów, które poprzedza wstęp. We wstępie autorzy w sposób krótki i merytoryczny namawiają czytelników do wykorzystywania opowiadania dzieciom historii, podpierają się przy tym badaniami naukowymi — nie bójcie się, nie ma tam długaśnych i skomplikowanych definicji. W kolejnych rozdziałach krótko opisują jedno założenie mające pomóc w rozpoczęciu przygody w byciu gawędziarzem.
Kolejne rozdziały ułożone są tak, że najpierw następuje opis danego założenia, następnie zostają zaproponowane ćwiczenia z nim związane, a zakończone są przykładową historią wykorzystaną przez jedno z autorów. Ćwiczenia, jakie proponowane są do wykonania, mają na celu rozruszanie przyszłego opowiadacza. Są po to, by udało się zrobić pierwszy krok na tej drodze. Przykłady opowieści, w naturalny sposób pokazują i rozjaśniają to, co wcześniej było zamieszczone w danym rozdziale. Mogą stać się inspiracją dla własnych opowiastek.
West i Sarosy często podkreślają fakt, że każdy z nas może być gawędziarzem i nie musi przy tym snuć rozbudowanych narracji. Ważniejsze od konkurowania z historiami tworzonymi przez pisarzy czy scenarzystów, jest nawiązywanie głębokich relacji i bliskości, jakie powstają dzięki kontaktom ze słuchającymi nas dziećmi.
Metoda, którą proponują autorzy „Jak opowiadać historie dzieciom”, jest prosta do zastosowania i pozwala na łatwiejsze nawiązanie więzi ze słuchającymi. Wystarczy tylko uchwycić się czegoś, co zainteresowało nas w otoczeniu, jakiegoś wydarzenia sprzed chwili czy wykorzystać maskotkę, by wyruszyć w podróż. Im dalej w las, tym więcej drzew, więc im więcej opowiedzianych powiastek, tym łatwiej będziemy je snuć i staną się bardziej rozbudowane. Trzeba tylko ruszyć przez most z rzeczywiści do świata wyobraźni.
Podsumowując ;) „Jak opowiadać historie dzieciom” to książka, którą z czystym sercem polecam wszystkim tym rodzicom i osobom pracującym z dziećmi, które pragną spróbować czegoś innego niż dotychczas. Może stać się inspiracją w pracy (np. w bibliotece) albo na spędzanie wspólnych chwil z córką czy synem.
Jeśli szukacie poradnika, który pozwoli Wam uwierzyć w swoje umiejętności i nie przytłoczy nadmiarem naukowego słownictwa, to obowiązkowa pozycja dla Was.

Everybody can tell stories to their kids though we are often discouraged by thinking our storytelling is mediocre at best.

Main idea - purpose of telling stories to your children is not to wow them with intricate plot but rather to create and strengthen the bond. As you go along you'll find that you're able to do more - teach, manage conflict, divert attention from unpleasant situations, etc.

The tool authors propose using, storytelling loop, suggests taking a familiar item from child's environment, creating a tale around it and bringing it back - reality -> fantasy -> new reality. That way story is more relatable and memorable.

Establish regularity how often you tell stories, place where you tell them (bed, sofa, treehouse) and prerequisites that need to be met, e.g. teeth are brushed. These build anticipation.

Starters like "Have I ever told a story about...?" or "Once upon a time..." signal the start of the story and capture attention. Best to pick one and stick with it. Same with closers like "And so they lived happily ever after."

Aišku, iš tikrųjų ši knyga visai ne apie tai, kaip pasakoti istorijas vaikams, o apie tai kaip pasakojant istorijas kurti ryšį su vaikais :)
Čia radau labai daug smagių patvirtinimų tam, ką pati žinau ir naudoju :)
Aišku, man gal nelabai patinka metodai, kai siūloma sekti istorijas vaikams pagal grafiką ar tvarkaraštį, bet kiekvienas pasirenka savo metodus.

* Svarbiausias istorijų pasakojimo ypatumas - santykių stiprinimas.
* Pasakojant svarbiausia savitarpio ryšys, o ne siužetas.
* Emocinis ryšys, natūraliai užsimezgantis pasakojant istorijas, bus ir jus, ir jūsų vaiką ilgai džiuginsiati dovana.
* Tikslas - sukurti ne tobulą siužetą, o tarpusavio ryšį.
* Kai vaikas prašo ką nors papasakoti, jis tikis ine įmantraus siužeto, o jūsų dėmesio.

I was so intrigued to find a book with an endorsement by both Jane Goddall and Richard Rohr on the back.

This book was one of the most delightful, empowering, and inspiring books I've read in a long while. It spells out its own agenda as "The purpose of this book is to inspire you to take possession of the storytelling tradition that rightfully belongs to each one of us as human beings" (146).

Truly, it is a book with some simple tools, delightful examples, and many opportunities to practice designed to help you be a natural storyteller to the child in your life. I think anyone would find this book enlightening, but probably most applicable for parents and teachers. It was life-changing for me and I will revisit this book again and again as I start my own storytelling journey.

Fantastic book! Stories are so important to people as a way to teach, entertain, form bonds, etc. and this book is a wonderful reminder of its importance. Anyone can be a storyteller, so this book is literally for anyone. While this book helps give steps of how to tell a great story, it's greatest attribute is that it reminds the reader why stories are so important and how to use them to form closer relationships with those we love. It teaches how to be more present in your life and to be more observant of our children and what they enjoy. I will definitely be coming back around to reread this one in a few years as it has some wonderful concepts and reminders to reiterate.

I really enjoyed this book and believe it to be a great personal/professional development tool. The perspective on the value of storytelling was innovative and accessible. The authors address inhibitions, voice tone, delivery, and developmental considerations. I highlighted multiple sections of the book and feel strongly you will too! This book would make a great gift for new parents, teachers, clinicians, and seasoned storytellers!
