I have read 11 books in this series. Obviously I enjoy the characters and the plot. I do think it's time for this group to return home!! Thanks for a great series. Looking forward to the next book!!
The bulk of this fairly short book was a long escape and gun battle. Interspersed with trying to survive, the combatants mused a lot about what was happening. If this had been a movie or television show, it would have gotten boring with such nonstop fighting. I was sad to learn the fate of Cloverdale as I had liked that place. The writing itself is decent and I bumped this from a 2.5 for the story to a 3. This book ends with an abrupt segue to the next book which might be another long gunfight.
Generally speaking, this was boring and even more unrealistic than usual for a survival book. We get it, Ben is a super soldier, amazing, powerful, smart man. It’s a shame he’s not real, poor Bruno Miller will never love a person as much as he clearly loves his main character.
That all said, this COULD have been a two-star review. It’s not. Why? Simple:
The lack of heavy snow in the winters was a large contributor to the dry summers they'd been having. The local paper screamed global warming, and while there was no doubt the climate was changing, Ben wasn't so sure anyone knew what was causing it.
And then:
…the government, which gave money to people who chose not to work while taking from those that did. It was theft; the government just called it something else.
Seriously, Bruno Miller. You suck. This such a terrible way of thinking. Once I’m done with these books, I’ll NEVER go anywhere near any of his books ever again. What a stupid, egotistical little man.
EDIT: forget it, I’m done. The more I think about reading the rest of these books, the more disappointed I feel. Goodbye, Miller. May we never meet again.
Another quick story but unlike some it was None Stop Action, how they didn’t die I will never know. Oh wait ya I do it’s because these books are written like the dad is a superhero who kills people with ease, and never gets badly hurt!
Honestly this book the dad, his 17 year old son and the son in law killed what 20 people? They were kidnapped, drugged, dehydrated, tired, hungry you name it… yet they were able to get the upper hand on all these men who are fully rested, fully armed and know the layout of their headquarters like the back of their hands! 😳😂 Because ya that’s realistic
Well I’m glad they made it out alive with superficial injuries, thanks to the sacrifice of the old man who ran the good compound that apparently fell apart just after they left. 🤷♀️
Now they are back at the doomsday people’s house and it looks like friends of the bad guys just found them.. so more fighting

Ed, Joel, Ben, and Max (Ed’s dog) set out at 2 a.m. to infiltrate the town hospital, retrieve critical medicine for Em, and return to Ed’s compound undetected. Instead, they’re ambushed with tranquilizer darts and captured by the PH gang. Vince, torn between loyalty and conscience, ultimately aids their escape by leading them to their confiscated gear. A brutal firefight follows as the group battles the gang, sustaining serious but nonfatal wounds. Vince is killed in a shootout with a former ally turned rival, while the others stage a daring retreat down the log trail back to the compound. In the closing moments, they discover the PH gang has tracked them to their refuge where the book ends.

There was a lot of ranting about social issues (people that are on welfare are lazy, the government steals from the working people to give to lazy people, etc) And Ben has a lot of odd internal dialog, which is nothing new in and of itself, but it happens in the middle of high action scenes.
I did enjoy this one about as much as the previous installments.
I liked that I thought the ending would not be a cliff hanger, and then the last 15 seconds surprised me. I will be starting the next installment after I submit this review.
I have read 11 books in this series. I like the characters and the knowledge of weapons and tactics. That said this was the longest and wordiest so far. The getting captured by being shot in the dark by darts that can knock you out for one person is unlikely both for 3 people and a dog is unbelievable. It would require night vision and stealth and tech that has not been evident before or after. Also in the middle of action scenes the main character’s thoughts go off in unlikely tangents in the midst of action sequences. This book really needs an editor to take charge.

Number 11 in the fine series and I look forward to the next novel. I really appreciate the ongoing series. Reading about the characters and their trials and tribulations on their journey across America during post apocalyptic times. The characters are very likable, or most are. Of course there’s lazy, greedy men wanting to do harm.
I don't normally read many series. I took a chance on this one and I was not disappointed. I felt like I was right there with Ben and the rest trying to survive. Mr Miller I thoroughly enjoyed your writing and have already recommended it to others. Going to read more of your books very soon. Thank you!
Wow! This book has a lot! Like you find out what happened to Cloverfield, so many mixed feelings about Vince, and Joel shows he is far more mature than his age. Ben realizes how much his son has grown up and how much he can truly depend on him. Martin is really proving to be more of a liability than an asset with how selfish he is. But the end? Geez! Idk what to expect in the next book.
It seem like I’ve waited forever to get this book. Fantastic series, Now to wait for the next one…. Gripping, life and death around every corner it just doesn’t stop. A must read.
Get ready to carve out some time to enjoy this one. If you haven’t read the others, then start at the beginning, and get the back story. It will make this one even more enjoyable and understanding. Can’t wait for the next one!
I got hooked on the first book and can't wait for the progression of what life would be if an EMP occured. Think about your life and how to survive, this survival series will give you a wake-up call.
Again a great plot once picked up almost impossible to set down great writing with care for each of the cast telling us about a conflict I was lost with the story time flew by as I became one with this book reading is the best escape from any thing
Most of the book is devoted to the battle between the Patriot Hooligans and Ben’s group. So if you like a long drawn out gun battle taking up a good two thirds of the book you’ll like this. Personally I thought more of the story would be told.
The author did an excellent job on this story again. He keeps us on our toes with the action and showing us the character flaws in our heroes. Hurry and get the next book out.
Wow, this book was full of action. Ben, Joel, Ed, and Ed’s dog Max travel to town to get needed medicine for Emma. The are captured by the gang and have to fight to escape. This book is the most action packed (so far) in the series. Great series!
I am going to write this review for all 14 of the books in this series, because the positives and negatives are the same for each book. Each book involves at least one major challenge while the characters fight their way to family and then back home cross country. The challenges are definitely page-turners and I often found myself wondering "how are they going to get out of THIS one?" The main criticism I have is that the reader has to spend way too much time inside the minds of some of the characters, and these characters worry about the same things, time after time. There could easily have been less books in this series if all the re-hashing of anxieties were removed.
A cliffhanger ending makes me thankful I can immediately read book 12. Another book full of wondering what new characters, physically and personality wise, we will meet. Will there be major changes or will we be on the edge waiting for the show to drop…
This is, by far, the best post apocalypse series I've ever read. Bruno had well developed characters and believable situations. You'll not regret reading this series.
I loved this book by Bruno Miller. I also loved these characters. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of this Bruno’s books.
