My Review

This was intriguing and had some good ideas. The concept was imaginative a televised contest where special humans called Founts are claimed as mates by Fae royalty on account of their pure chi blood. This particular essence is something that helps sustain them add in the ability to provide powerful heirs well it definitely makes them highly sort after not only by the Fae for mates but also by the blood cartels as well.

After meeting at a work conference Evee and Justin share an instant connection. Still, it’s complicated neither situations are ideal so despite her intense feelings Evee doesn’t see a future for them. When they both find themselves kidnapped and transported to an island on account of their unique blood they are gobsmacked to see each other again so soon. Both now determined to escape their shared fate Evee and Justin pull out all of the stops to turn the tide whilst Evee also continues to fight their inevitable connection. Whilst at the same time also wanting to just surrender to her feelings.

So the idea was interesting but ultimately I didn’t enjoy this as much as I was expecting to. I just couldn’t feel any chemistry at all between these two and their interactions together failed to convince me on any deeper level of their bond. It also dragged for me slightly and I found myself bored in places. Some of the plot directions I also wasn’t a fan of how to explain this without giving away spoilers well when Justin and Evee finally come together I couldn’t help but feel that the whole experience cheapened everything and I definitely wasn’t a fan of how it all played out. I think this is one of the main reasons that I decided this series probably isn’t for me. Be aware that this isn’t a stand-alone and does end on a slight cliffhanger it isn’t a massive one but there is more to come and the story is yet to be concluded. But I’m thinking this may be the end of the road for me I just couldn’t get invested in the characters though the writing itself was ok.

We also get to see where Liam and Brooke from the prequel are doing and they are a part of this as well so we get to see where they're at but through the eyes of Justin and Evee. I definitely think this has potential and an intriguing storyline. I just, unfortunately, couldn’t get on board with it. I voluntary reviewed a copy of Taken by Twilight.

I waited to submit this review and I am so glad I did, because I have changed my opinion in this past week- I cannot stop thinking about the characters! Overall I am rating this book 4/5 stars. I devoured it in 4 days!

I like the premise in that the reason for the games has a meaning more than just for sport. I was loosely able to make some predictions, but I was surprised more than twice with some of the outcomes. There is good spicy tension which does culminate into a very spicy scene, but I am here for that, so I loved it.

There are a few reasons I am not rating this 5/5 stars.
1. There were a few minor spelling and grammar issues that should be corrected (like, 3 - 4 of them).
2. The FMC was really annoying, as she is stuck in this "I am not good enough so I need to push him away" complex. At first it is a relateable feeling, but she held onto that for too long which didn't feel realistic.
3. The writing is basic, in comparison to other romantsy books I've read. Somehow though, she still pulled me in.

Initially, when I finished this book, I was not on the edge of my seat to start Mated by Midnight. I knew I would finish the series at some point, but I was not excited for it. I feel like there is enough closure that you won't feel like you have to continue if you don't love it, while still leaving some open avenues that can be explored. It has been 10 days since I finished Taken by Twilight and I find myself thinking about the characters and the other story line possibilities every day! I am definitely moving them up on my TBR list for this year.

I went into this book really expecting smut considering it’s revolves around the mating games. While the story is really good, I expected more smut. I liked the book enough that I’m wanting to read the second for sure.

This book was an okay read but I didn't love it as much as I had hoped I would. There were things about this story that I liked and disliked. This story had a few scenes that made me laugh but it also had scenes that made me think what the heck. The characters were okay, but I didn't love them and for me the story seemed to be more focused on the feelings between Justin and Evelyn (Evee) than anything else. There really was no depth to Justin and Evee characters and when they did give into their feelings for each other it was in a way that I thought was too much for something that seemed so special to them. Especially after they fought their feelings for each other the whole book. This story was just missing something "special" that could have made this a great read for me. The story ends with a cliffhanger and although I didn't hate it, I didn't love it enough to want to read more.

Taken by Twilight is a supernatural romance novel written by Tricia Barr. Our protagonists, Evee and Justin, were high school sweethearts who were separated before they could graduate. They meet at a conference years later and begin to rekindle their romance. And then they're kidnapped to be the potential mates for fae royalty in their Mating Games.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I usually struggle to get into a romance novel for the first few chapters, but that wasn't the case in this book. Evee and Justin are very likable characters. I loved the supporting characters. There seems to be more to Kennedy's story, and I'm excited to see how it unfolds. I can't wait to read the prequel and learn more about Brooke. I also appreciated that the author had a link for a free copy of the prequel at the end of the book. I thought that was very generous, and it follows Brooke.

This book is different than what I would expect a paranormal romance novel to be, and I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. I like romance novels to be predictable, and this novel was anything but predictable. Evee has some dark desires, so I would have expected her to be paired with Sin eventually, and instead, the author gave us more reasons to dislike him. And it's odd to me that the author paired two humans together in a paranormal romance novel. I also expected to learn why Sin does the cruel things he does and that the reason would redeem him. This book is perfect if you don't like predictable novels, but it may not be for the reader who likes predictable romance novels.

I hated the revelation of one of the contestant's heritage. Later in the novel, we discover that one of the contestants is a descendant of one of the fae pursuing her. There are many generations between them, but something about one descending from the other bothers me. I think there could have been a different way to have these characters share some heritage without one being in the other's pedigree. Distant cousins would have been better.

I'm rating this book a 4 out of 5. Overall, I enjoyed the story. I'm knocking it down to 4 because having one character related to another threw me off. Had the relations between the two gone farther than what it had in the book, I would have quit reading. Aside from that, I enjoyed the story. The book is very well-edited, and I assume it was professionally edited. I was unable to find any errors.

I highly recommend this book. It is a fantasy romance novel and erotic, so keep that in mind. If you're an adult who likes that, this book is a great addition to your "to-be-read" list. There are some very descriptive scenes. The book ends on a cliffhanger. But the sequel is out, so at least you won't have to wait. Overall, it is a good book, and I highly recommend it to adults who enjoy erotic fantasy novels.

I received this book to review through Online Book Club.

Taken by Twilight may not have started out with lots of action it did however start out with lots of tension that took a tight firm hold on me that never let go from the first page to the last.

10 people wake up on a plane wondering where they were, why they were there, how they got there, and what happened. 10 people were taken from their homes without their consent.

I can only imagine the fear and confusion as each of the characters woke up strapped down in their seats. I can just see it all in my mind as if I was there with them on that plane as they made their way to a private island.

When Evee wakes up on the plane she is terrified and wondering what is going on and what is going to happen to her. She wonders if she is going to get out of this alive. Oh, how intense and terrifying this scene was.

Evee looks across the aisle to see a man that she knows, a man that she only met a couple of weeks ago, a man that she has been text flirting with. Evee is a married woman with an abusive husband. The man across the aisle from her is Justin. There is one hot connection between Evee and Justin. I can just imagine how her heart must have skipped a beat when Evee saw Justin on that plane.

Every time they are together the sparks fly. Evee has been fighting this attraction between the two of them because she is still married. Justin is divorced with two little boys. His boys are everything to him. When Justin sees Evee on that plane he vows to keep her safe and get her out of there.

They soon learn the reason for their abduction. They were taken to play the mating games. What are the mating games? The mating games is an ancient ritual where unwed fae regents hunt for their future mates by chasing them.

Taken by Twilight reminded me of The Dating Game when all the contestants were being interviewed. It also reminded me a lot of The Hunger Games too. I can’t wait to read more of The Mating Games, especially after that ending. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next.

I would recommend Take by Twilight to all fans of The Hunger Games. One-click your copy of Taken by Twilight today!

I could not get through this book. I tried. I got to 60% in, but it was a push. This book was a mess.

There were numerous typos throughout, and new character POVs are introduced more than halfway through the story. The plot was a weird mix of a pretty basic trope: The character gets introduced into a supernatural world and must compete in a grand game to become royalty…. But instead of the usual storyline where the main character ends up falling in love with a supernatural lover, the two main characters are exes who are just getting out of their own respective failed marriages and are both kidnapped and expected to compete to marry other people. It sounds more interesting than it is because it didn't work well. It felt like the book should have been a contemporary romance and the fantasy aspect of it was added last minute in an attempt to make it more interesting. The problem is… fantasy readers want to read fantasy because of the fantasy, not because of the contemporary romance characters that were dumped into the middle of it.

Evee was a broken character - abused and beaten down, and not willing to start a relationship with anyone until her marriage is officially over. She is drawn to being submissive to the point of consensual non-consent (I'm choosing my words carefully here) and is madly in love with Justin.

Justin is a hot mess. At first, he seemed like a reasonable character - a loving dad who was cheated on by his ex-wife… but the farther into the story I got, the less I liked him. All this guy thinks about is sex. About the time the author used his POV to describe a princess's breasts as "begging to be motor-boated" is about the time I decided I hated his POV. He was so incredibly crass. The most positive thing about Justin as a character was the extraordinary size of his male anatomy.

Overall, I didn't like the book. I kept trying to push myself into reading more, but it felt like the book was pasted together sloppily in some sort of fever dream.

Good first book to the series

What I liked most was the action, the smut, the suspense and the world.
What I liked least was both MC's indecision towards each other which made them seem childish, even though these characters are meant to be older/mature and had been married.
Tropes are romantasy (romance and fantasy) with some paranormal mixed in.
Notable scenes were anything with Sin, the Interview and the final round of the games (can't remember the name for it).
I felt in suspense, excited, happy, annoyed and sad throughout this book.
Favourite character is Sin, I just love a villain that seems to be misunderstood.
I quite liked this book, I didn't really get the twilight vibes but I did get hunger games vibes.
Evee I liked throughout the book, but started to dislike her in the final round. Both her and Justin were way too unsure of each other to really feel like adults, even though both previously married and one even has two kids!
I just couldn't make myself like Justin, he just seemed too nice but in that typical useless male way (only thinking with one head and not the one with a brain), the amount of times he called Evee fragile??? Like, she went through an abusive relationship sure, but that makes people grow stronger. And it was only in reference to her body. Very frustrating to hear/read over and over again. I was actually hoping Sin and Aphrodite would split the two up.
The other characters I couldn't really bring myself to care about, which makes me wary to continue the series if the focus will be off Evee and Justin.
Good well-developed storyline, face paced without being too fast, the world building is great, the suspense is fantastic. These are why I still give the book 4 stars even though this review isn't entirely postive.
Probably will continue on to the next book.

While I did enjoy the book and it kept me wanting to read more, I was disappointed with how it read and the ending. I didn't fall for Evee's and Justins love, and also it also kind of remembered me of Hunger Games (just a bit tho). I wanted fantasy, a lot more fantasy. I wanted Evee to fall for one of the faes, instead of making them all 'bad' for what they were making them do. While Evee and Justin connected instantly, there wasn't really much depth to their relationship. Just this strong feeling that they had for each other. They didn't win me over at all. I wish the author would have gone more in-depth into each fae and we would have learned more about them. While the story was interesting, I was hooked because I thought there was going to more.. there wasn't and I didn't like that it hung on a cliffhanger because I felt there was a lot of detail/sections that the author could have taken out to get the ending of book 2. As an avid fantasy/romance reader, I was not impressed and I am disappointed that it ended the way it did. There was too much conversation and back story and not enough romance and fantasy for me.

Also, side note the cover confuses me.. who is that supposed to be? Justin?

I really wanted to like this book. It's got an interesting story line and could be very good with some edits. There was too much inner negative dialog, which I get there need to be to get readers to understand Evee's past trauma and turmoil, but I literally started to skip several pages just to get to some actual dialog and action. Even some of Justin's inner dialog dragged on. I was also expecting a little more back story on the "Games". Maybe some side info from the Fae. I just felt kind of lost and thrown in to the story. Felt like something was missing to make it a well rounded book and not something just pieced together. Almost like the author started on one thought, but got side tracked with another idea and forgot to go back and connect them altogether.

Now for the spicy scenes. While there was some very good tension throughout the book that had you going "come on already!", the last scene had me imagining a very, very bad 70s or 80s porn movie. I'm not real sure that was how that scene should have played out without being too cheesy.

Like I said, I really wanted to like this book and wanted to continue this series, but I don't think I will be.

I was interested in the premise of this book (although my thoughts immediately went to The Hunger Games a bit and it's not a comparison I wanted). I was interested in the fae and really wanted to learn more about/explore them instead of them all just being the bad guys trying to force the humans to survive these crazy things in order to be forcibly mated to them. Considering the fae orchestrated these Mating Games to find themselves human mates, and this is labeled as a paranormal romance, I expected exactly that- a romance where one of the two involved is a paranormal species- this case, fae. I wasn't really interested in or wanted the two humans together. The storyline is interesting and held my attention, but didn't have the paranormal romance element that I expected. It did end on a cliffhanger, which I also don't like. I ideally would have preferred this couple's story be in this book, and a different couple in the next, all experiencing this same series of events because I really don't care for cliffhangers. It was okay, but not really for me. 3 stars.

I really enjoyed this book. It's very much hunger games for the supernatural world of faes and vampires. Everlee and Justin had met weeks prior at a work conference and were immediately smitten with one another. Only problem is Everlee is married and Justin is getting divorced and has 2 boys. Everlee feels so guilty that she refuses to move forward and acknowledge how she feels for Justin. Everlee and Justin are 2 of several humans who wake up on a plane locked in their harnesses. These humans find out they are being taken to a mansion and must compete in a series of games . The last game is the mating game where whatever human is captured by the fae will be married to them and become king or queen of their region. If the humans evade capture, which is Everlee and Justin's plan, they are free to go. Everlee and Justin finally admit their feelings to one another. They also face many obstacles along the way including agreeing to help Brooke meet her vampire prince to save all of them. Reading the prequel is helpful backstory on Brooke. Can't wait to read the next book!

Winning is Losing

She wants him. He wants her. But one of them can't let go of their last yet. Then add in the world of the Fae Courts. Ever and Justin were high school sweethearts until Justin's father moved his family away. Justin tried to continue long distance but Ever let him go. Now, after being in a marriage with Henry, Ever finds herself thrown into a inescapable nightmare where she doesn't get to choose. To make matters worse, Justin is there too. 3 men and 7 women. Have been taken from everything they have ever known and are placed in the Fae Court Mating Games. There are no secrets and the chase could kill you. Can Ever and Justin move past their failed relationship and work together to escape? Or will they become the leader of a place where the Fae Courts treat them as a plaything with no ability to escape or see anyone they ever knew before?
The detailed world and exceptional descriptions of the character personalities will take every reader on a trip to remember.

Evee, has separated from her husband, due to domestic violence. She met Justin at a work conference. She and Justin had a connection. Justin was waiting for his divorce to be finalized. Evee, and Justin texted for a a while after the conference. She decided not to pursue the relationship. Evee, and Justin were kidnapped, along with eight other people. They were taken to The Garden, in another realm. They are to participate in the Mating game, for three days. The contestants are the Fae. The Fae get to choose a bride, or groom. The humans are Founts. They contain the most potent form of chi, a life force. The humans will be Queens, and Kings won by the Fae, in their court. The storyline flowed well. The characters were well developed, and you get to know them. The dynamics between the humans change, as the story unfolds. I enjoyed reading this story. It ends on a cliffhanger.

This was definitely different. Evee is a woman in a bad marriage, away at a work conference and fascinated with a man. Next thing she’s waking up chained on a plane. Justin is just as taken with Evee and taken by the same creatures. They find out they are special and are now fighting for their lives in the Fae Mating Games. They’ve been only given the choice pick one of the Fae Royals but they only want each other. This story was so different than anything I’ve read. The storyline is very original, the characters are great, there’s a healthy amount of longing and lust. I am sad it ends in a cliffhanger. I’m hoping to catch the next one because I’m hooked and need to know how this plays out to the end.

Special humans known as Founts are kidnapped by Fae and flown to a magical island. Once there, they are told they are to be mated to either a Fae Prince or Princess, or to King Sin who needs another wife. The so-called contestants of the centurial Mating Games are scheduled for a Q and A with the Royals, then a Ball so they can interact, and finally, a game of cat-and-mouse in the forest as they attempt to find the camp of the Royal they chose and avoid the other Royals. Justin and Evee had met at a work conference two weeks before and felt a weird pull towards each other that they still felt in their current predicament. This story has plenty of action, romance, and steam, and ends in a cliffhanger. Highly recommended.

An out-of-town fling gone horribly wrong!

Evee was at an out-of-town training session when she met Justin. By the end of the weekend, she knew she was in love but loyalty and fear of her abusive husband prevented her from going any farther. When they parted, she knew she had missed her chance and would never see him again. An auto accident changed her life forever and when she woke next, she was a prisoner on her way to the Fae Mating Games and Justin was also a prisoner.

This storyline had some interesting twists. I enjoyed the book but I wish it was longer and I hated the giant cliffhanger, which is the only reason I didn’t give it five stars. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I enjoyed the games. How interesting to grab people, bring them to an island filled with all kids of paranormal beings, and run them through interviews and games with the winners claiming mates! I know that the two main characters fell in lust weeks prior, and it will be interesting to see if they hold to their promises to the others to keep them safe from the worst of the hunters. It was a cliffhanger but it was a fun read. I'm sorry the other people who wrote less then happy reviews didn't get what they expected, but I liked this adventure! Be a little more open to the stories you choose. If you want something specific, WRITE IT!

The story is original in my experience but it drags on way too long. The characters act like tenagers and there is no real connection to the fae. Between his frequent painfully hard erections and her constant inability to get over her guilt about cheating on her husband, that she plans on divorcing, I wanted to stop reading. I kept going, thinking we would have a nice HEA at the end. But no! There is a cliffhanger!!!
I don’t recommend this unless you like endless sexual tension and vague concepts of almost sex.
Because I read a review copy, I am assuming many of the typos were corrected before the final release.

I enjoyed this story very much. The characters were fairly well developed and interesting in their differences. The storyline revolves around mortals called founts that are taken from their lives and entered in a mating game of the fae elite. There is a variety of characters some likeable, some not so much. Even most of the ones you wanted to dislike because of their flaws were given humanity by showing their vulnerabilities or redeeming qualities. The story takes place on an island and is fairly fast paced and action packed once they enter the last part of the competition. Will they end up with the mate they want. Only downside to this story is it ends in somewhat of a cliffhanger and you need to read the next book to find out.

Dark and twisty surprise dating game of sorts....

SURPRISE!!!!

"What the heck is going on" runs through the minds of the "lucky ones" plucked from their lives and waking up midair on a cargo plane to who knows where. Welcome to your new reality where you get to play a type of Hunger Games meets Bachelor/Bachelorette type game for the Fae to meet their mates. Oh yea...and the guy you've been cheating on your hubby with- and had just decided to end the affair (no matter how much it breaks your heart) happens to be on the plane too 🤷🏻‍♀️. Welcome to all kinds of games and craziness. Not knowing who to trust. There's also a huge cliffhanger, so be warned 😉. Have fun!!!.

Evee and Justin meet at a work conference. They flirt, it's destiny, or is it? Next thing we know, Evee wakes up on an airplane strapped to a seat in a 5 point harness. Weird, yes.... Weirder, Justin is also on this plane! Welcome to the Mating Games! Where Fae need heirs and special humans are taken so they can find their King/Queen.

I enjoyed this story. Some intense situations, a trigger or two is possible, so be aware. I am new to this author, but I will definitely be back to read more of hers, especially the next one seeing as this ended with a cliffhanger.

So I found this book as an arc I really wanted to read it so I did. Quickly! It had a good storyline. People who didn’t know they were basically connected to Fae by blood. Well the Fae want their blood to rule. So they play games to find a mate to be able to ascend to their thrones. But the MCs already had a small history. They had met and had an attraction to each other. This book had good qualities that I really loved. It also had some I kinda skimmed over. The fmc had a lot of inner monologue (a lot of it). And you have to wait for the next book to see how everything ends. Not sure if there is another book after that kinda was hoping for a hea but nope. But it is a good story

This was a different story about mortals and Fae. Justin and his just found true love Evee are "special" and the Fae have a "game" they like to play every century to get mates to continue their power. And have a heir .
The story ends with a slight cliffhanger or continuation. To me it was an HFN vibe.
Plenty of action, some secrets revealed. The flow of the story was ok.
Well described, worldbuilding. For the most part I liked all of the characters (competitors) for the games. They each had their own agenda.

Evee and Justin meet at a conference and are attracted to each other. They are both coming out of failed marriages and say their goodbyes. When they both wake up on a plane heading to The Garden, they discover that they are part of The Mating Games where Fae princes and princesses are looking for their partners to help them rule their courts. As in all games there is subterfuge, pacts and drama but the one constant is the feelings that Evee and Justin have for each other. This ends on a cliffhanger and I look forward to reading the next book to find out what happens next.

Justin and Evee are trying to rise above their overwhelming draw to each other, they’re both in failing relationships already. Now they’re in for the fight of not only their lives but some new friends too after they’ve been captured by the Fae for a twisted dating ritual. Sometimes a little dark, some very steamy scenes and plenty of fast paced action to get your adrenaline pumping as they run for their lives and fight for love. This caught my attention and has waiting with bated breath for the next book.

I thought I would like this book more than I did based on the synopsis. There was just something that didn’t click for me. As soon as something exciting started happening with the plot, the characters would take a step back and start reminiscing or analyzing something else. For this reason I don’t think we were able to get in depth into characters or plot. I also did not feel the chemistry between Evee and Justin. Plus Justin’s inner thoughts and asides were creepy. Could have been better. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Taken by Twilight, by Tricia Barr, will transport you to a place where nothing is as it seems an you soon realized that your old life is forfeit for the benefit and enjoyment of others. Hold on to the edge of your seat, because the action starts off with a bang and keeps on rolling. The storyline is fast-paced, filled with magic and mayhem, fae, danger, politics, intrigue, subterfuge and romance. The characters are well developed and engaging. Evee and Justin's story is both heartbreaking and enheartening. Overall, a good, otherworldly tale that will keep you up long into the night.

Evee and Justin, who have a history, wake to a new reality of being in a hunting game with fae looking for their mates. The characters are terrific, with great backstories and new tension of escaping and steamy thoughts. The storyline is fast paced, action oriented and full of obstacles. Intense feelings and trust, entertaining situations, and great banter keep the pages turning. Totally enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in the series.
