Audrey is a career lawyer for a big New York firm. Working every hour of the day/week/month/year, she is in the running for partner and has her eye on the prize. It's tough enough fighting to be given respect in a macho world, and even harder to have a social life, let alone date.

Then Jake moves in next door. Jake grew up with a workaholic father and so has made it his mission to enjoy life. When he and Audrey fall in love, she has to make a decision about what she really wants out of life.

Partner Pursuit is a romantic, workplace women's fiction novel with (thankfully) a happy ending and oodles of charm. The author clearly knows a lot about being a lawyer in NYC as the attention to detail was spot on. It was so spot on that I read it being very thankful that I was not a female lawyer in NYC!!!

If you're after a humorous feel-good romance, with atmosphere and character then read this book!

4☆ A Compelling and Empowering Women's Fiction with a Rom Com vibe.

Audrey is a shrewd lawyer and a workaholic. But she has a motive, and that is to be made a partner in the Law Firm.
However she's been thrown a curve ball when she finds out there is just one spot left and she's determined to get it!

Unfortunately her eagerness to succeed comes at a cost, her social life and love life is almost non existent. She's pretty much all work and no play!

That is until she meets the devilishly handsome Jake, her new neighbour.
But Jake's carefree and has no time for anyone who’s a workaholic, he's had first hand experience at how detrimental that can be on relationships.
That is until Audrey comes into his life.

But can Audrey afford to take her eyes off her prize?
Is there any room for Romance in her life?
Can Jake be the one to show Audrey that's there's more to life than work?

Partner Pursuit is such a heart warming and empowering read.
I loved how Audrey was a strong female lead, juggling her hectic career, proving she's just as worthy as any man and juggling a budding romance. Audrey is such a relatable character.
If you love women's fiction entwined with a rom com feel then Partner Pursuit is definitely the book for you!

This was such a cute read! I was drawn in by the description of this book, which sounded like an adorable, lighthearted romance and it did not disappoint!

File this one under closed-door, friends-to-lovers romance. There’s a lot of focus throughout the story on Audrey’s busy working life and lots of detail on law firm life, which made this great story about more than just the pursuit of love.

I don’t really watch legal dramas, so I found the insight and detail in Audrey’s working life very informative, though I was unfamiliar with some of the legal jargon and processes involved in Audrey’s work.

Alongside the romance, there are some solid female friendships and an examination of toxic workplace culture. I really liked the resolution to this story which did justice to the intelligent, amibitious and likeable, Audrey and her caring & charming love interest.

A great, lighthearted and entertaining read!

I loved this book. It's funny and it's engaging and also makes me feel like I'm vacationing in New York! It also does some really cool things, though, that I've rarely ever seen. When's the last time you've seen a realistic romcom heroine, struggling to balance work with her social life and going on blind dates? These things impact a budding romantic relationship and they're never portrayed in fiction, which is so annoying! Strobos weaves these seamlessly into the plot, making them hilarious (oh my God, the biking blind date!) and intriguing (I couldn't believe just how invested I became in Audrey's cases--I really wanted to see what happened next!). And then, of course, there's a beautiful romance at the center:) I'll definitely be reading this one again!

Partner Persuit is all about workaholic Audrey who is within touching distance of her dream role as partner for her Law firm and Jake, a fun-loving, gorgeous music marketing executive. The two new New York City neighbours get on straight away and are easily two of my favourite characters in any of the books I've read. All the way through you're just willing the opposites to attract but life just gets in the way. Their journey to their light bulb moments is one I didn't want to stop reading. I would love to see this made into a movie! Kathy Strobos did the perfect job of making me forget I knew nothing about law whislt including lots of law firm chat. The 'women supporting women' in the book is so lovely to read. It gives me hope that the world will get there one day if we read more stories about it. I'm so glad I chose to read it and I can't wait to add a physical copy to my shelf!

Definitely one of my favorite books! I enjoyed every page of this book! I could picture the opening sequence of an attorney (on the last few months of a 7 yr road to Partner) trying to sneak out of the law office before 11pm without anyone seeing her (esp not a Partner) - while the theme song to Mission Impossible plays in her head. It was such a clever and fun way to start the book.
Audrey (the attorney) struggles with career aspirations to be a Partner in the law firm (encouraged by her mother) against the pursuit of a partner in a relationship (Jake or Tim or the law firm) against the pursuit of having a life (encouraged by her BFF). With just a few months to go before the Partnership decision, it's a heck of a time to start a romance, but the heart wants what the heart wants. In the meantime, she seems to be the one who every Partner goes to when they want to win a case. Forget the process they have in place to assign work, it's just there to demonstrate to an outsider that they're a firm that cares about their employees. LOL - if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you in NYC.
Jake and Audrey are so cute with their little gifts to each other and how they delivered them. They had me rooting for them from the beginning.
The subplot - women teaming - not competing - was right on. Go sisterhood!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to laugh out loud. I'm looking forward to Rory's story coming soon, I hope!

“When you fish for love, bait with your heart, not your brain.”
When I tell you that I am emotionally, and quite physically attached to this book. I mean it. I absolutely love this novel. It is so cute to the point where it truly did leave me with a warm, fuzzy-feeling. This novel has it’s own place in my heart, and so do Audrey and Jake.
This book really describes the struggle of juggling a huge work load, as well as a person’s personal life and so it felt like it was something I could relate to. The main character, Audrey, is someone i relate to and this just made me love this book even more!
I have to say that Kathy Strobes is now my new favorite author! I cannot wait to read more of her creations!

The story
Audrey is a lawyer in a New York law firm, really close to finding out if she will be made a partner. She works insane hours into the nights and all weekend, and still isn’t guaranteed that she will be successful, but it’s too late to give up now. She lives on the Upper West Side in her own apartment, with her best friend Eve next door. One evening she meets a guy on the street outside and later realises that he is moving in next door. Jake works in marketing in the music industry, but his father is a partner in a law firm and he knows just how much of a sacrifice this position entails.

My thoughts
The writing in this book is so strong for a debut author. I loved the setting in New York, and the unusual activities that Jake invited Audrey to enjoy with him. I loved the detail of the law cases that Audrey was working on, and the office politics. It gives a depth of detail to this story that takes it beyond emotional hand wringing over a guy. I loved how Jake opened Audrey’s mind to the possibilities of having a better work-life balance. This was just such an awesome read! ❤️

I started reading this last night and stayed up until 2am to finish because I couldn't put it down. It has all the elements of the best rom coms: relatable characters, emotional hopes & highs, and witty prose. It appeals to the hopeless romantic in each of us!

You don't need to be a lawyer to relate to the office dynamics and legal jargon. Anyone who dreams about living in or who has walked the streets of New York can visualize the author's vivid descriptions of bustling NYC. But what I really loved is how Kathy Strobos juxtaposes the protagonist's work stress with her personal dating life. It kept the book suspenseful and me emotionally invested in the story.

This is the post-pandemic book we all need . . . full of hope, lightheartedness, and love that we're all seeking. Reading this was like going on an exciting first date. Get ready for your oxycontin to spike! A must-buy for yourself, your friends, and any potential partners you want to pursue!!

I liked this book!
Truthfully I liked Audrey. She was a strong woman throughout the book who showed she did not need anyone to help her achieve her goals. A total baddie. Then there was Jake who was a total swoon. This book was such a cute rom-com, and I recommend it! I loved the workplace romance and the tension (good tension, might I add). Overall I think this is a good book, and I had so many good laughs!

Audrey is pursuing two very different partnerships - becoming partner in a big New York law firm, or a partnership with Jake, who doesn't want to date a workaholic. Tensions ramp up as Audrey's workload expands in the run-up to the decision as to which of four possible candidates will make partner - whilst Jake is planning a romantic get-away.

This is a romance between two very well detailed and credible characters, and you will learn something about how corporate lawyers operate along the way! I recommend this book to anyone who likes a realistic romance.

In this book, it would seem that love and law are highly incompatible – at least where Audrey is concerned! She is so focused on getting partnership at her law firm, she ignores the good things when she has them. And the result? Whilst Audrey might have convinced herself she is happy with her career choice, she cannot deny the loneliness and exhaustion that comes with it.

I struggled to get into this book because I found it so legal-heavy. I think this was at a detriment to Jake’s character and and the budding relationship that starts to develop. To be honest, I found it rather muddling because the only things I know about the world of lawyers is from watching a highly successful American television show! Therefore, on the one hand I applaud the writer for their vivid depiction but, contrastingly, I found it excluded me from the narrative. There was too much focus on Audrey’s career ambitions and I found I did not care for depositions, evidence or example cases.

On the other hand, I found the double meaning to the title rather apt. Pursuing partnership at work whilst trying to pursue Jake as a boyfriend… can Audrey really manage? She makes obvious errors and I truly sympathised with Jake – especially as he grew up with a largely absent father who was also in the same career position as Audrey. I think I would have liked the narrative to give Jake more attention in this story, maybe even switching to his perspective, because this would have allowed me to understand, appreciate and enjoy his character more than I really did.

Therefore, I found this difficult to follow as a romance story and think it was a book of two halves: pursuing a career and finding love. I think the writer would have benefitted from developing the latter element more because this would have lessened the intensity of the legal elements. It was too one-sided for my liking, hence being able to only award this three stars.

In conclusion, I think I liked watching Jake and Audrey grow as a couple and I especially liked the lessons that Audrey learns by the end of the novel. They would make a sweet couple, balancing each other out, but I think there needed to be more romance and less legal jargon to enhance the budding relationship between the two.

With thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was just what I needed to read after reading some darker, heavier books for work. I ended up reading this whole book in one night; it was that good! To be honest, I really can’t think of anything that I didn’t enjoy about this book. It has that charming rom-com vibe with the bonus of seeing what the corporate legal world looks like in New York City.

Let’s start with Audrey and Jake and the adorable chemistry that existed between these two. Their relationship reminded me of Jake and Amy’s relationship in the show Brooklyn 99. Their conversations and interactions with each other were fun, witty, and had me laughing. If you are a fan of puns and fun antics, then you will fall in love with these two characters. I just loved the silly, playful packages they were sending to each other throughout this book. It was so much fun and made me wish I could be that witty and creative, LOL. Kathy did one hell of a job at building that will they, won’t they feelings in her readers. Every time I thought these two would get together, something would happen to prevent that from happening. Which meant I needed to keep on reading because I wanted to know if they would get together in the next chapter. Probably the reason why I ended up reading this book in one night. So, if you are a fan of that slow-burn, neighbours to lovers tropes, this book is definitely for you.

Personally, one of my favourite scenes with these two was the water bug scene. I felt this instant connection with Audrey and her aversion to having bugs in her house. I had to google what a water bug was, and I have to say that I would have been freaking out as much as Audrey was in the book. I have similar reactions with centipedes; they have way too many legs and move much too fast. YUCK!

Audrey and Jake. I fell in love with these two immediately. Not only together, but separately. Audrey Willems - lawyer who wants it all when it comes to her profession. Jake Miller - music marketing executive who works hard, who knows to not put work before his own life. Two completely different souls, that craves each other deeply. How will they maneuver their differences, and can Audrey learn to let go and see that work isn’t everything? I really enjoyed reading about these two dorks and all the laughs it brought me. And let’s not forget about our dearest Biscuit. A love story I will remember.

I received an e-ARC version of this book from NetGalley and the publisher.

“Partner Pursuit” by Kathy Strobos follows lawyer Audrey who is pursuing being a partner at a law firm. The law firm is rumored to be cutting the available slots down to two (opposed to the usual four), so competition to be made partner is very high among the eligible. Audrey meets her new neighbor Jake, whose father was a workaholic lawyer who gave more time to work than to family. Audrey believes that she can juggle both a relationship with Jake and working toward making partner, but in trying to prove this to herself it becomes an interesting juggling act.

I probably got a bit more out of this book than the author anticipated, but what struck home for me was the part about Audrey not wanting to disappoint her Mother, along with dealing with the pressures facing women in high-pressure jobs. Ms. Strobos is a former lawyer and she did a great job describing, without going into too much detail, what it is like working at a legal firm.

This book was a fun, mostly light-hearted, quick, and entertaining read. I liked two of Audrey’s friends - Eve (may I sign up to be your taste tester too?) and Winnie. They both rounded out Audrey in differently enjoyable ways.

Kathy Strobos' Partner Pursuit is a light, heartwarming chick lit about Audrey Willems, a lawyer working in New York who fights tooth and nail to become a law firm partner but also pulls out all the stops to find a romantic partner. It isn't an easy journey for Audrey. Along the way, the internal and external conflicts jeopardize the realization of her goals and they bring out her likable traits-- resilience, loyalty, and determination.

I also love how the author showcases New York City's famous places and interesting restaurants. I kept checking these places on Google Map and imagined the characters walking on the side streets, buying groceries, waiting and dining at restaurants, or bicycling around the park. I also checked Kathy Strobos' favorite place to buy cookies, the Levain Bakery. This is why I love reading. It's like traveling to different places without leaving home.

Partner Pursuit is a fun read that is reminiscent of a typical rom-com but does not fall short of sending its message about finding a balance between career and love.

Thank you, Kathy Sobros, Strawbundle Publishing, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Audrey Willems is way overworked and facing a dilemma. She desperately wants to achieve partner status at her law firm, despite co-worker challenges. But when a sexy new neighbor moves in next door, it’s mighty tempting to pursue a romantic partnership. Audrey finds herself seesawing between giving her every waking moment to the firm, and squeezing in time to grow a slow, cautious flirtation with Jake. Readers who are interested in the inner workings of a corporate law firm will be intrigued by the comprehensive descriptions of Audrey’s office and cases as she tries to project the confidence and dedication to become a partner. But when it comes right down to it, is that really what’ll make her life zing??
Author Kathy Strobos provides an in-depth view of Audrey’s motivations and fears as we follow her journey. Her story of balancing work and personal life should resonate with many, along with the sweet romantic aspects.

Great read! Loved it from the beginning to the end. It is a sweet romantic story.
Audrey Williams is a workaholic lawyer who loves her job and is desperately working to become a partner in her New York law firm. She meets her new fun-loving, sweet neighbour Jake, who works as a music marketing executive in NYC. Both are attracted to each other. But Jake never date workaholic woman especially a lawyer like his father. So she determined to learn and make a balance between her career and love-life and to take chances with him.
I loved reading this book. The author also put an effort to show Audrey's professional life including the courtroom sessions which is quite informative. Loved it. I just this book who loves romantic comedies.

I really enjoyed this book. The story alternates between Audrey’s life as a lawyer working to make partner at a big NYC firm and her budding romance with her new neighbor, Jake. I was genuinely interested in both storylines and both stories felt real and authentic. As a former lawyer at a big firm in New York, I loved reading about Audrey’s cases and the office politics. The book has a Nora Ephron quality to it, between the mix of romance and professional life and the NYC details. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an intelligent romance novel about likable, relatable characters!

When I first read the description of the book I wasn't that sure I was going to like it. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down.

Audrey is a workaholic lawyer who wants to become a partner in a NYC firm. She is a strong woman who works hard for her dream, but she also meets Jake. She falls in love with him, but is her career more important of her own private life?

I like how Audrey proved she can be a partner and that in the end choose to work for another firm. It's important to be happy with your job and have time for your private life too. Also, I like her story with Jake. It was a cute love story. The other characters were great too!

Thank you NetGalley for the free e-book.

Wow, I loved everything about this book! The chemistry, wit and banter between Audrey and Jake was just perfect, and I really enjoyed the authenticity of Audrey’s struggle for a manageable work-life balance. It felt so real without being whiny or patronizing—it was just down to earth and completely relatable which I found so refreshing. This book was extremely well-written too and very easy to read. A fun mixture of women’s fiction and romcom, there were also some really sweet and touching moments and I was left with a real feel-good glow afterwards. Definitely my kind of book and highly recommended!

The workaholic lawyer Audrey meets the laidback marketing executive Jake and try to make a relationship work, despite the odds .I found Jake to be a lovable, understanding and romantic man and could feel the chemistry rolling off them in spades once they got over themselves and decided to give the fledgling feelings between them a chance. Audrey's ambition and unrelenting pursuit to win caused her to trip up a time or two but fortunately it didn't bring a screeching halt to the budding relationship and everyone was a winner in the end. This was a delightful read while still being relatable.

Audrey is a high-achieving, workaholic New York corporate lawyer. Since the unexpected death of her father, her mother has instilled in her the need to keep your eye on the prize, and to achieve your career goals while setting all other distractions aside. Audrey's work environment reinforces this philosophy, as she and her fellow lawyers compete for partner status by working ever more impossible hours and refusing to turn down cases, even when they are buried under a towering workload.

Jake is the handsome and laid-back music marketing executive who moves next-door to Audrey. He's charming and fun. While he loves his job, he's also determined to strike a good work-life balance and to never allow work to dominate his personality. As the son of a workaholic corporate lawyers, he also intends to steer clear of romantic entanglements with lawyers.

Despite their best intentions to circle cautiously around one another, Audrey and Jake fall into a passionate relationship. But Audrey's work becomes a constant source of tension between them, especially as she's aiming to make partner. Nevertheless, Jake's influence begins to change her in small ways. Is she clinging too much to achieving the role of partner, and does she even want it? So concentrated on work, will she regret missing out on so many aspects of her life? Will she regret her choices?

This novel explores many aspects of work, office politics, and the struggle so many women professionals have proving their worth in the workplace. Audrey and Jake are interesting and likeable characters, with great chemistry between them, and their struggles ring true to readers. New York also serves as an important backdrop to the story, and I liked the sense of place in this novel.. A highly enjoyable read!

Audrey is a workaholic lawyer, doing everything in her power to make this year's partner. She's expected to forgo any opportunity of a personal life, including her dating life which is something she's been able to swallow thus far. When Jake, her neighbour moves in, Audrey is far more tempted to reevaluate her current priorities. Jake is a music-marketing manager that welcomes her into his life with ease. The only catch... he hates lawyers and the demanding nature of the job -- swears to never date someone married to their job. Can Audrey manage to juggle both?

What a cute book! At first I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this one due to some of the lawyer jargon I was unfamiliar with, but I found it got easier to keep up with as I read on. I loved the friends to lovers aspect! I'm usually not a huge fan, but I really thought it was done well. Strobos does a great job creating a foundation that has you routing for them. Audrey and Jake's relationship progressed so well -- I loved their chemistry and their banter was so fun. The struggle of work life balance was authentic in this book and I think a lot of people can relate to that aspect! LOVED the women support women subplot too -- so so important to see this! Overall it was a really cute romance and I'm excited to read more by this author!

Partner Pursuit, the debut novel by Kathy Strobos, invites us into the world of Audrey, a partner-track lawyer in a corporate NYC firm. She’s determined to stay single as she enters her final stretch in the partner decision at the firm - until she meets Jake. Jake works in music marketing and has reservations about dating a corporate lawyer due to history in his family - his dad works at a similar firm and missed many holidays and vacations as a result.

Partner Pursuit captivated me from chapter one. I enjoyed the slow-build of Audrey and Jake’s romance, and learning more about the reality of life as a corporate lawyer. Audrey’s friendships were also strong and well-represented in the book; I particularly loved her relationship and conversations with best friend Eve. I love a book that focuses on more than the romance, and this one had it in spades. Overall, a truly enjoyable book - I’m excited to read more from the author in the future. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 stars.

The cover spoke to me!

I really enjoyed this story. It was so cute and heartwarming. At this point I'm in to romance books, it allows me to calm down knowing that the ending will be happy.
I liked how the characters presented themselves in this book. But as I read this book, I realize that the world of law is not my field. Audrey is constantly working to become a partner at her New York law firm. I am ambitious myself and this is what appealed to me the most.

Thank you!
