Peril [Hardcover]:
The transition from President Donald J. Trump to President Joseph R. Biden Jr. stands as one of the most dangerous periods in American history. But as # 1 internationally bestselling author Bob Woodward and acclaimed reporter Robert Costa reveal for the first time, it was far more than just a domestic political crisis. Woodward and Costa interviewed more than 200 people at the center of the turmoil, resulting in more than 6,000 pages of transcripts—and a spellbinding and definitive portrait of a nation on the brink. This classic study of Washington takes readers deep inside the Trump White House, the Biden White House, the 2020 campaign, and the Pentagon and Congress, with vivid, eyewitness accounts of what really happened.

Trump Under
Just one year into Donald Trump's term as president, Michael Wolff told the electrifying story of a White House consumed by controversy, chaos and intense rivalries. Fire and Fury, an instant sensation, defined the first phase of the Trump administration; now, in Siege, Wolff has written an equally essential and explosive book about a presidency that is under fire from almost every side. At the outset of Trump's second year as president, his situation is profoundly different. No longer tempered by experienced advisers, he is more impulsive and volatile than ever. But the wheels of justice are inexorably Robert Mueller's 'witch hunt' haunts Trump every day.

Living, Breathing Peril

Woodward and Costa's book is a triumph of reporting and a dreadful, hair-raising horror story of Trump and the GOP. It is also in part about the rise of Mr. Decency, Joe Biden, to the rescue. Is America worth saving? Joe Biden thinks so. Me, after reading this and today's opinion polls putting Trump ahead of Biden, I'm not so sure.

Rather than repeat what we already know W&C go after what we DON'T know. And what we don't know is even more shocking and horrible than what we do know. Trump emerges as a deranged monster far more vindictive and horrible than previous Woodward efforts and more consciously evil than Michael Wolff presents him. Heroes like General Milley emerge to thwart his worst excesses, which are even worse than you might have thought. They get inside the story, bringing you tales of terror from the deranged President and his awful, corrupt supporters. Bill Barr emerges with a little credit, as does the awful Lyndsey Graham, but deep down, they are truly awful people.

Biden emerges as a smart, experienced but testy man. He is trying to rise to the occasion but is thwarted by the awful GOP, Trump and his own, fractured and dysfunctional Democratic Party. You read it and despair. I fear there will be another Civil War in the US, or something like it, if this thing plays out as written here. I support Biden unequivocally - his rescue plan, leaving Afghanistan, and attempts to pass Infrastructure, both hard and soft. But he seems destined to fail, and the forces of evil, rising from Mar A Lago, look set for resurrection.

Thank God for W&C and all the great journalists and comedians, who keep sanity and truth alive. BTW, this is the best of Woodward's three Trump books by a mile. But it tells a hateful tale.

A must read.

Once again an interesting read. We already know most of this but it’s interesting to know the conversations behind the scenes. The severity of the concerns by General Milley were breathtaking. The quotes from Lindsay Graham of wanting to maintain the McCain and Reagan wings of the Republican Party are sickening as is his and others disgusting complacency over the last 5 years that continues today

Brilliantly written! The book documents a sad ,but very real and dangerous time in the history of the country. I have truly no real sense of how the next several years will play out and how both Trump and Biden will perform. That we came so very close to disaster, and whether we can still avoid it remains to be seen.
I have hope, but absolutely no certainty!
Very well done Bob and Robert, thank you!

Woodward’s track record clearly opens doors and gets people talking. This latest book is no exception. His and Costa’s weaving together of facts and statements from the Primaries though to the middle of 2021 allows the reader to draw conclusions about the state of democracy in the US. It is not a positive feeling. It is a compelling read and difficult to put down. There is clearly much unfinished business, how it ends remains uncertain. Perilous it undoubted is.

Well written account of the end of the 4 year term of President Trump. Nothing much new in this account if you followed this disaster carefully.

I think the book was good but lost focus about 3/4 through. Made me realize I should have been more scared than I was.

A deeply disturbing and powerful book, well researched and well presented. If there is anything to fear it is the resurgence of an authoritarian unbalanced Trump!

You already know most of this, but it is a compact accounting of the end of Trump's presidency and the beginning of Biden's presidency.

I disliked Peril. I thought it was Pro Trump and not at all accurate. It left me wondering what sort of nonsense these two authors are pedaling.
