The Tournament

Rate this book
Dwyn couldn’t wait for Drakemere’s Tournament of Champions. He had come of age this year, so it would be his first time competing in the city’s biggest event. First though, he needed to help his old mentor with a small task. All he had to do was find a stolen crate, steal it back from the thieves who had taken it, and return it to the retired head of the knights. He even knew where it was and had formed a great team. On the surface it seemed simple. He couldn’t have been more wrong. An evil was rising, and they were all directly in its path.

Follow Dwyn and his companions on their adventures in The Tournament.

Aaron Smith was born and raised in and around the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, Canada. He is a former software developer with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. In his teen years, he discovered a passion for science fiction and fantasy novels. This interest grew to include his first creative outlet – pen-and-paper role-playing games. He crafted adventures where his friends played the main characters and helped drive his stories through to their exciting conclusions. When his programming career came to a natural close, he turned to writing while being a stay-at-home father. Aaron’s inspiration for The Breach was based on an adventure with family and friends. He hopes that you enjoy the journey as much as they did.

Loved this book and can’t wait for the next book to be released! The Tournament is an exciting ride from the first page, filled with magic, daring, camaraderie, fear and humour. Dwyn forms a team with wildly different personalities, skills and priorities to help on a single quest. From the beginning they face danger and battle through it, forced to rely on each other while being virtual strangers. As their goals shift, their team no longer seems so temporary. Each crisis, each battle fought bonds them a little closer together and reveals another layer of who they are separately and as a group. When dark magic threatens those around them, their only possible response is action. The Tournament is only Book One. It introduces a fascinating, finely-detailed world with dragons, elves, wizards and dwarves and a pretty terrifying dark force to fight. While ending in a satisfying way, the plot left me wanting more - more of the twisty plot, more of the world and more of these unexpected and eclectic characters.
