Totally engaging story
Let's admit it, it's a guilty pleasure. We all watch those house-flipping shows on TV. In this book we are watching on an online platform as contestants have one day to do major furniture makeovers. It was an interesting twist to pair strangers together on teams for the show. All the teams superficially look far more capable and compatible than Millicent and Joe. They are busy sniping at each other from the very beginning of auditions, which is what catches the producer's attention and gets them a bye onto the show..
I love how Millicent and Joe learn to work together to beat the producer's system, even as, one by one, the other teams begin to fall apart over superficial issues. The challenges set for the teams would be very realistic in this type of show, and would make great viewing. I love how, as viewership increases, the producer makes over the warehouse-studio space each episode.
There is a lovely secondary plot about Millicent and the homeless book-reader on the bench in front of her store. It offers a wonderful opportunity for Millicent to reflect on her life, her choices, her personal relationships, and about not judging others based on assumptions about their appearance.
I purchased a copy of this story from Amazon and voluntarily chose to share my review.
