Battle Crows MC #6

Strange & Unusual

Rate this book
The moment he divorced his ex-wife, Jeremiah decided two things.

One, he would never, ever get into that kind of situation again—i.e., marriage.

Two, he would spend more time doing what he loved—baking, riding motorcycles, spending time with the Battle Crows MC, and getting some quiet time for just himself. Pretty much doing the things he enjoyed, that his ex-wife could no longer ruin.

And, months after his divorce was final, he’s held strong.

He hasn’t gotten entangled with a woman. He’s opened his own bakery. And he’s never been closer to his club.
It has to be why he allowed them to have a massive club party at his place, which became the cause of Gracelynn Barry entering his life.

If he’d known Gracie was going to be his employee, he definitely wouldn’t have slept with her.

Yet, there he is, in the middle of an interview, finding out not only was the woman he slept with the most viable applicant for a job he very much needed filled, but that she’d recently broken up with the man he loathed. The second reason he’d divorced his ex-wife. Erich. His ex-stepson.

To say life is simple for Jeremiah would be a joke of epic proportions.

It’s time for him to buckle up.

LLV has punished this heroine. She has had a terrible start to life. Apparently thrown out of home due to being pregnant in the way Mary of the Bible stories as she is still a Virgin 🤦🏻‍♀️ LLV has this way of presenting some incredibly OTT storylines. We don’t have any resolution of the parental or sibling relationships we don’t get any deeper emotional connection with the heroine. She instantly jumps into this sexual relationship with the hero who is trying to be emotionally unavailable.

LLV allows us to think he has something going on with another woman who ends up being a massage therapist who treats him at a hotel. Lovely. Then there’s the entirely unbelievable ex wife, shared power company ownership coz she won’t sell and he won’t sell so why not remain in this terrible situation forever. Honestly. Who wouldn’t find a legal way to find resolution there? If only for your own sanity.

The ex boyfriend of four dates who she worked for was his step son now ex step son. He wants to hurt the hero so guess who cops the punishment? Yep, the heroine. Why? We don’t really know. Why doesn’t the “saviour” at least remove her from the scene and get her to a hospital? Why does she end up severely disfigured. I just can’t. I almost didn’t finish the book. In fact I skimmed over the hospital bits. I can’t see how you can properly write such a gruesome scene and not spend at least 100 or so pages on her emotional and physical recovery. It’s like LLV was angry at her heroine or at life in his book and decided to lash out with her pen but not heal it properly.

All glossed over, miraculous surgery complete with bionic hands within six months? Please. I would imagine at least that time for he wound to heal and years for any normal recovery. So much was thrown into this book that the old throw enough shit see what sticks is the outcome. I am really disappointed. And message to authors (coz Stephen King did this as well) when you want to injure a heroine in her hands remember, we are reading a book I feel this pain and almost can’t hold a book to read it while the character is suffering is much pain. My empathy is real enough I can’t hold it upright. Stupid I know but it’s real. Anyway, happy ending or not I really didn’t like his one it was without a point, strategy, plot and character development. I didn’t even like the hero.🙃

Jeremiah went through the marriage from Hell, and now that he's out of it, he has no intention of tying himself to someone again.
Enter Gracelynn.
Never before has he met someone who truly gets who he is and how he lives.
How is he supposed to resist the perfect woman for him?

I've got one word for Strange and Unusual.

INTENSE!

It's one of those stories when you think you know what to think, how to feel, but realize you know nothing.

I'm still unsure on how I'm feeling right now. LLV surprised me and I'm loving it!

When it came to the suspense element of this plot, the author not only pushed the envelope... She tore it up, flattened it, blew it up, and scattered it to the wind. I was left to wallow in the devastation and despite how tragic everything was, despite how scared I was, I enjoyed every single moment of it!

There's romance, shenanigans, outside drama, sexy times and tons of love. I'm in love with the way Gracie and Jer loved each other. Through thick and thin, sickness and health, good times and bad, these two held each other down and it was beautiful.

Gracie and Jeremiah's story....
As usual LLV knows how to gut punch a story with a harrowing experience as was done to the heroine.I literally had a lump in my throat at what Gracie suffered at the hands of crazy Erich.
Major spoiler.....
Poor Gracie had to have both hands amputated because of the trauma caused by Erich.
Jeremiah reminded me of that wonderfully caustic British chef,Gordon Ramsey as he couldn't give a rat's ass,but was a softie under his brass and crass exterior.
I enjoyed the scenes with Bram and Dory...Damm you LLV for those teasers,I so want their story like yesterday.
A good entry into this series......
and who is that blue eyed assassin??????

The beginning was so good. I'm not saying the last couple of chapters are bad, it's just that my excitement for the story is gone. I know that situations like this can happen to anyone, it was just unusual for me.
I mean, it could have been without it.

I think this is the first book that I loved but also hated the last few chapters and ending of. I really liked this one but the ending and the bad shit that happened just didn't sit well with me. I really hope the last book is so much better.

Jeremiah hasn't let anyone in since his divorce. He's got his fast rising bakery, his club, and that's enough for him. It really is. Until Gracelynn. When he sees her at a party, he's instantly drawn to her. But what to do when she's the one who applies for, and is the best candidate for, a position at his bakery? He can't possibly mix business and pleasure, can he? Of course he can! And does. Oh damn does he!

Gracelynn and Jeremiah are a pair. Bookworms with not very good social skills, but they feel intensely. So when they meet it should be a match made in heaven. Except when she ends up becoming one of his employees, things get a little, uh, sticky. But really they don't need to be because feelings are what really matter. And these two have the kind of connection we all want, we all look for in our own relationships. Their chemistry is sizzling, there's suspense and action, and more than one emotionally fraught moment. I loved these two and am now anxiously awaiting Bram and Dory's story, Never Trust the Living.

Wow. I’m a bit stunned after reading this. I usually like the dark stuff that LLV adds to a book, but this one was quite a shock. Well, I love Gracie and Jeremiah together. Don't get me wrong. I'm just not sure what to rate this one. I love Vale's writing and she definitely elicited a strong response in me. That's awesome! It definitely furthers the series, but I've got to say I'm a little worried about Dory after getting to know her better in this book. I believe she will be in the next book in the series. Strange & Unusual is about overcoming adversity. Maybe too much of it. A bit shocking. (Some brutal scenes, so trigger warning here.) I'm going to give this one 3.5 stars, but love the series, so rate it 4.

Jeremiah and Gracelynn were awesome! I love that they both understood each other from the start and just clicked on more then just an attraction level. Woowee the drama on this book pulled at my heart! I did not expect things to go the way they did but that’s classic LLV, throwing me for a loop. I loved seeing more Bram and Dory! I can’t wait to finally get their book after the build up in this series. I am going to be so sad to see this series end but know it’s will be a reread for years to come. 5 stars #2OCCJD

Jeremiah knew one thing after divorcing his ex-wife, he would never remarry again. He did not plan to fall for another woman but when he met Gracelyn at a party the Battle Crows were hosting. Gracelyn was not out to talk or party with anyone, she was there to read he book and eat her food. From that moment Jeremiah was hooked. He tried his best to stay away, but she was easy to hang out with and while he normally liked quiet, he wanted to know everything about her. Can a man who has vowed to keep his heart hardened take a chance on the woman who is melting it?

Talk about surprises, this book is full of them. I really enjoyed this one. Gracie had a tough life but she is a fighter through and through. Jeremiah you met in other books and he was even better then I hoped. Terrific chemistry, entertaining story and I couldn't put this one down.

I was ready to give this book 4 stars but after what happened to Gracie at the end I couldn’t. Like has the girl not gone through enough? Was that situation necessary? I love LLV but sometimes she’s just OTT for no reason

Strange and Unusual delivered! Gracelynn and Jeremiah are both seen as a little strange and unusual by those around them, but they don't care. But then they have a one night stand only to find out he is her new boss, and her ex-boyfriend is his ex-stepson, and that she was a virgin. It's a lot to take in. But he needs her at the bakery.

Jeremiah is a quieter type of hero and I really loved that. Gracelynn is a bit crazy, but after all she has gone through, it makes sense. She is surviving the best way she can. These two really compliment each other well and I thought their relationship was just perfect. Jeremiah is thoughtful and careful. He isn't the reckless type and that totally won me over. Things are not smooth sailing for these guys, but they are just so good together it works perfectly.

  POV: dual 1st
  Tears: a few
  Trope: boss/employee, virgin heroine
  Triggers:
Series/Standalone: stand alone within an interconnected series
  Cliffhanger:
  HEA:

...then you will probably like Strange and Unusual!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

- A grumpy but endearing hero who is also her boss ?? (when they realize he's her new boss xD)
- an endearing heroine a bit clumsy ??
- A horrible ex-wife ?? (although I would have liked to see her more !)
- A REALLY evil ex ?? (OMG BUT THAT END !!! I was RAVAGED by what happened to Gracie !!)
= The recipe for an LLV that I read much too quickly =)

In short, a romance that I devoured with great pleasure !

PS: is it me or do I have the impression that LLV is preparing books for us with mafia ?? Or at least very dangerous men?? (I'd love having the story of Gracie's mysterious savior and also about her best friend and the mysterious Taj !)

PS2: the next boooook !!! I can't wait, especially with all that we learn about Dory here and the little excerpt at the end !!

The title to this one was spot on. Both Gracelynn and Jeremiah are a bit strange, yet they both get each other, which is unusual. Right from the start they seemed to get each other. You would think that one of them would have been a bit awkward from their first meeting, but no...they went on with the interview and working together like nothing happened.

I really liked that Gracelynn found a good guy for her, even if Jeremiah isn't the normal. And as much as Gracelynn needed a good guy, Jeremiah needed a good woman, which he found in Gracelynn. With one minor blip early on in things they were on the same page. It wasn't until the ex...ex-boyfriend and ex-stepson came back into the picture with a vengeance that things got bad. I was stunned in what the ex did and stunned in the choice that Jeremiah had to make. It was like my mind couldn't compute, I had to read over those few sentences a few times to comprehend and then the aftermath of what life would be like started to sink in for me.

I was glad that in the end that Gracelynn and Jeremiah were able to get past things, by the end of the book they are sitting pretty, all of their dreams are coming true and they are together building something special!

Jeremiah and GraceLynn❤️

Strange and Unusual is the next book in the Battle Crows MC, with Jeremiah, who has vowed to never let a woman in, makes an exception when he sees Grace for the first time😍 They are similar in many ways, for example, they each like the quiet and have a love of reading…that is until they discover that he is her soon to be boss at the bakery where she’s interviewed for a job, oh and Jeremiah is her ex’s stepfather😳

I really enjoyed this story, it was fast-paced but also intense, some highly emotional moments in parts but made me love these characters so much more. I’m looking forward to Bram and Dory next, to find out what happened there…I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❣️

This book started out good, but the ending left me sad for the characters. I know it’s fiction, but this is not what I want in my fictional world. This couple were sweet & they work together, even with a bit of an age difference. Jeremiah comes off as a jerk, but he really is a teddy bear when you get to know him. That is unless you mess with something he loves, then watch out. Gracelynn has had a hard life & just when you think it’s getting better with her meeting Jeremiah there are just some twists I never saw coming.

Gotta say, the title is fitting! The author gives us a fast-moving story about Jeremiah Crow and Gracelynn Reed that is funny, super hot, gritty and shocking. As usual, the storyline was unique and unexpected.

Jeremiah and Gracelynn meet at a party where they both end up reading side by side, whilst the party is going on around them. They move from reading to talking, to talking some more, before moving to the bedroom. The next morning, they both realise that he's her new boss. Besides trying to ignore their intense sexual chemistry, they also have to contend with a bitter ex-wife and a psycho ex-boyfriend, who also happens to be Jeremiah's ex-stepson!

I loved Jeremiah and Gracelynn. He was a pretty deep guy, who was thoughtful and observant, and didn't suffer fools gladly. He was majorly put off relationships after his dreadful experience of marriage with his ex, but I loved how quickly Gracelynn changed his stance. Oh my goodness, Gracelynn! She was an amazing character - courageous and resilient through life-changing adversity. Gah! Seriously, I did not expect that plot twist. In all honesty, I balked at the turn of events, but she was magnificent in strength and toughness in the face of what happened to her, and Jeremiah melted my heart with the way he handled everything. Loved it!

Woah! Woah! Woah!

Did not expect that kind of climax - I swear I knew LLV at time could be unpredictable but seriously?

Jeremiah and Gracelynn are two peas in a pond - both love baking, both are avid readers and both are equally enamoured with each other.

But past experiences keep them from fully giving into the connection between them; and when they do an enemy close to them attacks.

I seriously am still shook after reading this one. But we did get a close look into Bram and Dorcas’s relationship, standing as they are now. So I am quite eagerly waiting for their book to come out!

I thought the way they met was great. They were both at the same party and she is cold so is sitting by the fire and reading her Kindle. Hero asks if he can sit next to her and she says ok so he pulls out his paperback book and they read together for hours, at a party, without speaking.

These books just keep getting more dark and delicious every time.

Jeremiah Crow is a little older and more jaded than his nephews. This grumpy man just wants to be left alone.

Booktrovert: A person that prefers the company of fictional characters to real people.

-Gracelynn’s secret thoughts

Gracelynn has been doing n her own for a long time. She doesn’t need anyone. People just let you down but there is something about Jeremiah that she can’t resist.

“That would be like me telling you that your voice offends me. Your voice is so smooth and deep that you could sing me to sleep right now, despite my mild hypothermia.”

There chemistry is off the charts. This story has a total shock factor that had me saying WTH!! Who was the mystery man??? What in the world is she gonna come up with next.

Now I can’t wait to read Bram and Dorcas’s book.

This read too fast for me... and not in a good way.

In all honesty, I didn't feel that I got to know the MC's at all. There was a huge amount of background alluded to with Gracelynn... but absolutely no conclusion. I didn't understand why Jeremiah stayed with Rachel as long as he did. I genuinely don't get how Erich got away with being such a shit for so long. I didn't get the point of the whole thing with Anisa... she was supposedly Gracelynn's best friend... but, again, we hardly knew her... and she had all but disappeared at the end. Why did every encounter with Rachel involve her screeching? And I really really really really really wanted to hear what Gracelynn actually said to her. It all felt rather brushed over and rushed.

Nope... this, for me, was barely an OK read.

I am way more invested in Dorcas and Bram ( although Bram has a hell of a journey to go on to make him remotely acceptable to me... ). I just hope that all of the seeds that LLV has planted along the way play out... with no left-fielders suddenly happening... The Crow family... in its virtual entirety has a lot of work to do where Dorcas is concerned too actually.

Oh... and that thing at the hotel... stupid and just pissed me off on every front.

A fair few triggers... as to be expected with any LLV... and not too much of a story told.

"Jeremiah was a bullfrog. Was a good friend of mine." -Three Dog Night & Gracelynn Barry (probably)

Nope. That's too obvious.

"Don't fall away. And leave love bleeding in my hands. In my hands again." -Fuel & Gracelynn Barry (probably probably not)

Oh gosh. That's so dark...but so poetic and somehow fitting. And I think we need something for this ridiculously unnecessarily dark story.

Hm. Yes. This is my not shocked face with this book. Not shocked at all. Plus, there's only so many "normal" books in a row before she throws us a screwball. The bad thing is that the book is completely tame and contemporary for ninety percent of it. The other ten percent... Okay. Not that bad. But it was pretty bad. Honestly, it was worse than Controlled Burn. Like, gave me the heebie-jeebies when I was going through it. If you haven't read it yet, you were warned. If you have aversions to violence in your books, I'd steer clear. If you get upset easily, this might not be the one for you. I liked the book. It just kind of threw me. Like, that end felt unnecessary unless she would have played up the bad guy's role, had more foreshadowing on the overarching plot going on behind the romance, and put more emphasis on how tentative Gracie was about the relationship as share more about her past with Jeremiah. But I'm not LLV's editor, so eh. I also would note THE WORD REPETITION, LANI, that's been plaguing her since Book #1. *waves flag* Imma still number one fan, tho.

Gracelynn Barry has had a harsh life. She started out with her family in Utah. You know, one of those families who are overly restrictive and use weird form of ultra conservatism as a convenient way to abuse their kids. After a series of unfortunate events, she gets kicked out of the family, only to struggle greatly. However, she survives and thrives. She got through culinary school, and works at a restaurant, though her boss is a d-bag (too bag she sort of started seeing him romantically). Then, she gets the chance of a lifetime: an interview for a position as a baker in one of the most popular bakeries in the area. Like, totally Instagram-famous, people drive for miles and miles popular bakery. Yippie! The night before the "big interview" with the head boss, Gracie's bestie convinces her to finally get out of the house for once and go to a biker party. She just wanted to get her friend off her back and proceeds to read the entire time. Interestingly enough, this hot, older biker plops down next to her and does the same damned thing. They are such a pair of party misfits that they eventually gets to a talkin' and find out that they are pretty darned compatible with each other. Then one thing leads to another, and they are having a bedroom rodeo. Ironically, This man, Jeremiah? Oh, yeah. He's the guy interviewing her for the position. Did she at least get some extra credit?

Jeremiah Crow is the uncle of the rest of the Crow clan you've seen in the books. He's divorced from a crazy wife and has an ex-stepson who is a pain in the a$$. She's obnoxious--that's for sure. Jeremiah hates her, but if he wants to feel better, she is not the worst ex-wife in the LLVerse. Nope. That prize goes to Travis Hail's ex-wife. No one can't beat that b!%#h. You cannot convince me otherwise. The price for best ex-wife, of course, goes to Landry Hill. We love her. :-)

Okay. Back on track...Jeremiah has a bunch of businesses he has to share with the ex, so says the divorce stuff. It's annoying, and he's so done with women--that is, until he meets this odd duck at a party thrown at his place. She's a bibliophile like him and is comfortable sitting in silence just doing her thing. She's also smokin' hot, and after a night of talking long after the party lets out, they do some belly-bumping. However, both of them have to get out of there because he has to conduct an interview, and Gracie has an interview to go to. Both exactly in an hour. Hm. Let's piece that together. Whoops, he just banged his new employee because he needs her. She's the most qualified he's seen for the position. Now, he's going to have to deal with a whole lotta sexual tension during work hours. Bummer.

Doesn't that sound like such a cute book? I thought so. BUT IT'S NOT. OH, MY GOSH. IT'S NOT. I suppose I'll remember this one for a while. Heh heh.

I did like both characters, probably Gracie a bit more than Jeremiah, though I think he did really shine through in the end. Gracie is just this true survivor, and I'm thinking that's maybe why the ending was the way it was? To demonstrate that? But since her childhood stuff got dropped and was never properly addressed between her and Jeremiah, it didn't have quite the impact. Sure, they had some conversations. Not what they needed to have, though. Anyhow. She's a survivor, and she's my kinda gal. Eats cupcakes and reads books. What's not to love about her? Jeremiah is completely jaded from love after Rachel, the psycho. Now, her son takes her crazy and dials that up to eleven. He's mean. Vindictive. And an idiot on top of that. And psycho. Poor Jeremiah has to deal with these two, owning businesses with both of them because he has to with his ex-wife, and I guess he feels bad for his ex-stepson? What's worse was that Gracie "dated" the guy for a moment, but there was no sex. So at least he wasn't tunnel buddies with his ex-stepson? (Yes, I went there.) The whole situation will make you shake your head.

Question though, if Jeremiah and Psycho Lady own this big power company that services a good chunk of Texas, then where does Liner's company service? I know Texas is huge, but still. I feel like this was a missed opportunity for the two to meet up during a storm when more trucks were called out from other companies. Something. I miss that guy.

Overall, I liked the book. I'm not sure it has the read over and over again power that some of LLV's other books have. I did enjoy digging into Dory and Bram's story a bit more. I've been dying to read that one (I'm writing this a few days after this book came out). I also liked some of the information at the end about I do think use bookworms need us a man like Jeremiah, though. Just lets us read. Because I swear I can't get any reading done in my house. I have to go and hide. lol Our Gracie doesn't, though. I suppose that is the perfect happily ever after? *winces* *strained smile*

I gave myself a pep talk last night about all the reason why I couldn't write my review last night. Aside from the fact it was 2am and I was well past my bed time. Obviously I have no self restraint.
I usually write my reviews directly after reading so all my thoughts and feelings are fresh but that also means I'm hella chatty which in this case is no go because my chatty ass will unintentionally spoil things that need to not be spoiled.

So despite patience not being my strongest suit I waited a minute to digest all the crazy.

Now here I am. Still trying to process all that happened and write an articulate review without spoilers. dAMNIT.

Ok Jeremiah and Gracelynn brought me so much to unpack. Let's keep it as short as my blabbering self can.

Jeremiah is everything I didn't know what to expect. He's the quiet brooding pretty standoffish kind. To most, he's an asshole but to Gracie he is so much more. I love that he wasn't your typical alpha man. Yes he worked hard graft and yes he most definitely filled his trousers but this man, the baker extraordinar who loved to read in peace and wanted a quiet life without crazy has so much depth I could of duh for days. He fascinated me.

Gracelynn felt like home to me. Her personality tickles me because I get it. The need for silence and the sensory issues with too much noise and people. I loved that she didn't care to fit into what others deem as socially acceptable. I loved the strength she showed with every minute she fought the things that haunted her. She proved resilient and sweet despite everything. I freaking loved her.

These two together are a match made in awkward heaven. Neither character is particularly sociable or chatty and the comfort they found amongst one another felt so natural it was like they had always been. It was easy to imagine them together, nothing felt forced.
I loved how they met and that they had plenty to say to one another despite not liking to talk to others. The chemistry between them is so intense and the connection that blossoms really is the sweetest thing because they love the same things. It worked perfectly and I felt all the emotion from these two very guarded characters. It was overwhelming in the best ways.

Their journey is turbulent to say the least. Sweet romancing, frustrating stubbornness, saucy shenanigans and heartbreaking happenings. There was never a dull moment along the way. With plenty of revelations and some nail biting teasers for what's to come in the highly anticipated story of Bram and Dorcas it's safe to say Jeremiah and Gracie's story packs a punch.
Oh did I mention side characters? As always Lani brings a whole slew of characters that bring so much personality to the pages and give us a peak in to how they're doing as well as showing us some new and intriguing faces. This book is a whole moment and it's been a minute since Lani has given us one like this.... get your tissues ready my friends.

As always the epilogue slays and managed to have me laughing and crying all in one.
I'm never disappointed and this one is definitely a fav of the series thus fav.

I'm done for now. Also laughing at my version of short and sweet. I tried.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

The moment he divorced his ex-wife, Jeremiah decided two things. One, he would never, ever get into that kind of situation again....i.e. marriage. Two, he would spend more time doing what he loved -baking, riding motorcycles, spending time with the Battle Crows MC, and getting some quiet time for just himself. Pretty much doing the things he enjoyed, that his ex-wife could no longer ruin. And, months after his divorce was final, he's held strong. He hasn't gotten entangled with a woman. He's opened his own bakery. And he's never been closer to his club. It has to be shy he allowed them to have a massive club party at his place, which became the cause of Gracelynn Barry entering his life. If he'd known Gracie was going to be his employee, he definitely wouldn't have slept with her. Yet, there he is, in the middle of an interview, finding out not only was the woman he slept with the most viable applicant for the job he very much needed filed, but that she'd recently broken the man he loathed. The second reason he'd divorced his ex-wife. Erich. His ex-stepson. To say life is simple for Jeremiah would be a joke of epic proportions. It's time for him to buckle up.

Get ready to fall head over heels for Jeremiah and Gracie. This is a man who has finally gotten out of a marriage that he was not happy in. He wasn't allowed by his wife to do a lot and now that she is goine he is going to do the things he always has enjoyed but she wanted no part of him doing. She also had a son Erich and he hates him with a passion and is another reason for him having an ex-wife now too. He loves the simple things in life and is never ever going to get himself in the situation he was in before. So relationships are a no go for him. But when he lets the Battle Crows throw a party at his house he meets Gracie and they have one amazing night together. So , you can imagine his shock when he has finally found a perfect candidate for him to hire for his business and Gracie is that applicant for his bakery. These two have so much in common but I really loved that they both loved to read. I can't even imagine what it would be like to sit with my husband and us both read. I don't think I have ever seen the man pick up a book!! There are two things against them and that is that he is to be her boss and she is the ex of his stepson that he can't stand with a fiery passion. Speaking of fiery passion. These two have it in spades. Add in some things that are the twist and turns of the book and you have yourself the perfect little read in Strange and Unusual!

Silence can sometimes speak volumes and in this book it's what binds two bruised souls together as they find a bit of peace in a storm of rage, anger, and endless noise caused by their exes and the danger brewing around the Battle Crows MC. From the first page to the last this was a book that pulls you in with characters that are easy to relate to and more that meets the eye.

Jeremiah Crow isn't your typical bad boy biker in that he likes baking and reading. He's more seasoned, a bit set in his ways, and after an unhappy marriage he's done with commitment, done with sacrificing his wants and desires. It's now time for him to focus on himself. The moment he meets a quiet woman at a party though is the moment when all his plans get turned upside down as she ends up becoming a vital part of his life, both his personal and work life. Their connection is instantaneous, sizzling yet surprisingly sweet. Readers see Jeremiah as standoffish and brooding early on, a man still trying to move on after divorce. He's a tough guy, commanding, yet happy in his world of books and pastries and it's here where he and Gracelynn bond. Jeremiah was definitely more than what he showed the world and he was just who the equally quiet young woman needed. He became the perfectly imperfect hero for someone needing a harbor in the storm.

Gracelynn Barry is someone easy to relate to. She too is seen by others as standoffish as she longs to be away from the chaos and the noise, happy in her world of books. Her past is one of emotional pain, betrayal, and I felt very protective of her as the story progressed. When it comes to her need for quiet, her feeling overloaded, Ms. Vale has again not shied away from addressing her issues. By embracing her quirks, her imperfections, readers are wholeheartedly pulled into Gracie's world and the haven she found with Jeremiah.

Along with a compelling romance between two unforgettable people Ms. Vale amps up the action and suspense here. It's a raw book, letting the chips fall where they may through many surprising twists and turns. These events certainly kept me on the edge of my seat while causing a few tears to fall. The romance itself was rocky but well-worth all the bumps and bruises to reach its hard-fought HEA. Surrounding this engaging main couple was a cast of supportive secondary characters with a few issues of their own that impact the overall storyline. On a whole the groundwork laid here has me excited where things go next in this exhilarating, no holds-barred series!

Gracie and Jeremiah are a wonderful couple. They meet at a party when they are both sitting there reading books. I mean these are my kind of people! They have an amazing night together only to discover that both must get to an interview the next morning. An interview with each other.

Talk about embarrassing. You’ve seen your potential boss naked among other things. It could have been awkward, but it wasn’t. Gracie gets the job, and they work well together. Fate seems to help them along. Of course, Gracie has an ex (can you be an ex after a handful of dates though) who happens to be Jeremiah’s ex stepson. The only thing I can say about him is he is his mother’s son.

Those two take the cake let me tell you. The entire book all I wanted to do was punch them in the mouth. Every single time they are in a scene or every talked about they peeved me off. Honestly, they are probably the best evil characters ever! You just hate them from the get-go which is perfect.

Together Gracie and Jeremiah’s chemistry is off the charts, and I guess in my mind I expected Jeremiah to be much older than his nephews. I guess my mind just put him that way. He is close to their ages. I will say what happens is not what I saw coming. I was shocked and cried a little. I didn’t want it to go that way. However, after reading the book a second time I got my emotions under control and realized just how perfect it was.

I also love that we got more of Bram and Dorcas here. I love that Jeremiah had taken the time years ago to get to know Dorcas. It shows how deep he really is as a character. Their book is next and I can’t wait for it.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This review was originally posted on Storied Romance
