Living on an island plagued by magic and mythical monsters isn't a fairy tale . . . it's a nightmare.
Aveen is the perfect lady, placid and well-mannered, concealing her discontentment beneath false smiles and gentle nods. As the eldest, her duty has always been to her family legacy and her sister's happiness. But when she finds herself forced into betrothal to a man she loathes, she swears she'll do anything to escape. Even if it means bargaining with a wicked fae prince.
Rían is a devious half-fae with a dark secret, concealing his true nature beneath glamours and lies. When a fascinating human accidentally catches his eye, it's clear he'll do anything to take her for himself. Including making promises he can't-or won't-keep.
Confronting hidden dangers and haunting pasts, the two reluctantly come to rely on each other to survive a world where nothing is what it seems and darkness encroaches from all sides.
Will their tangled web of lies bring freedom they crave . . . or will it unravel them both?
A Cursed Heart is the second book in the Myths of Airren, a series of inter-connected standalone fantasy romances set on the magical island of Airren.
Jenny grew up in Oakland, Maryland and currently lives in County Tipperary, Ireland with her husband and two children. Her love of reading blossomed the summer after graduating high school, when she borrowed a paperback romance from her mother during the annual family beach vacation.
From that sunny day forward, she has been a lover of stories with Happily-Ever-Afters.
MY FIRST 5✨ FANTASY IN 3 MONTHS AND A SECOND IN SERIES TO TOP IT OFF???????????😭😍 (those who know me knows how much I struggle with 2nd in series)
« No. No, it’s not. Your heart - - You are my heart » ❤️🩹 Book 1 was good - but book 2? Solid perfection for Maeghan. I thought I loved Tadhg but that was until I met Rían 🤭 the way he kept calling Aveen by her ruling emotion. Happy Aveen, Violent Aveen, Melancholy Aveen, etc. I loved this. « There she is. - Who? - Happy Aveen » 💗
This series is criminally underrated. « That’s it. I’m asking for a new soulmate. You’re defective » 😆
Read this in one sitting and cancelled all my plans today and tonight to read it 😂 I laughed, cried, giggled. I loved this so very much 💗
"No. No, it's not. Your heart-" His forehead dropped to mine, and he said with the sweetest smile, "You are my heart."
ALRIGHT. OH. EM. GEEEE!!! I LOVE RIAN!! MORE RIAN! GIMME PRINCE OF DECEPTION STAT! Eying him like a slice of delicious cake! Such a tender villain (hello, morally grey hero). SO. MUCH. SWOONING. An island plagued by magic and mythical monster. Secrets, glamours, and lies. "Pity the girl from Graystones, who love a heartless prince. For the only way to save him was at her own expense." I LOVED IT! BRAVO, JENNY!
THINGS and STUFF -loathe to love -magic & curses & sacrifices -sister stories -betrothal contract -soulmates -Bridgerton but make it fantasy -wishes -gardening & cooking -snarky banter -two fae princes and a pooka (found family) -#IsThisAKissingBook: open door. Featherlight kisses, hair kisses, true love's kiss.
Thank you Jenny Hickman for an advanced copy!

2 words people.......WITTY BANTER. This book was delicious and gave me everything I wanted. Slow Burn. Mystery. Great characters. Easy Plot. Tension. Spice. And just overall great writing. I need more.
If my heart didn’t already belong to Tadhg (from A Cursed Kiss), the heartless fae prince, Rìan, would have easily stolen it in this book. He was written so perfectly, and I curse Hickman for making me cry all because her characters and world aren’t real.
I can’t recommend this series enough, and I’m so thankful it isn’t over yet!
The author is an excellent writer. I have nothing but compliments for her writing. She just thoroughly ruined everything good I could have said about this book with the inclusion of that one thing. WHY WOULD SHE DO THAT, JUST WHY.
When I tell you that I loved A Cursed Heart, I FÜCKING LOVED IT!!!!!
So I loved A Cursed Kiss too but this sequel is just PERFECTION. If you love a good romantasy, you will want to read this book ASAP. Jenny literally writes a perfect romantasy and you just need to see for yourself why it’s just so damn good.
The world building is excellent. The characters are my favorite. I loved the plot. The twist at the end. And the ROMANCE. Omg…. A Cursed Heart has the absolute best romance I’ve ever read. I fell in love with Rían so effing hard, it’s not even funny. So much banter between him and Aveen, and their playfulness made my heart soar. He is sooooo romantic, I almost divorced my husband right there (jk, but seriously… 😉). Jenny, you set the bar high with Rían!
A Cursed Heart is a stand alone but part of an interconnected series, Myths of Airren. I highly recommend reading A Cursed Kiss first! Thank you so much for the ARC. I can’t thank you enough for writing this book. It’ll stay with me forever!
👉🏼 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚: -soul mates -sacrifice -forbidden love -Irish mythology -romantasy -curses & wishes -Fae, magic, witches -playfulness & banter -swooning hard AF -support characters you’ll love -mild, well-done spice
This is a feel-good romantasy with regency vibes .. lots of banter and hilarious situations .
The problem was that I couldn't connect with the characters nor the plot ..🥺🥺
The characters were okish? But is like nothing happened til 50-60 % of the book .
Idk if this counts as a good or bad point, but the book was pretty similar to the Caraval series. The FMC is practically a copy of Donatella and the writing gave me that vibe as well. Moreover, the love interest is cursed ( same curse as Jacks but can't say anymore to avoid spoilers)
So if you are looking for smth similar to Once Upon a Broken Heart 💔🦊 and Caraval this book may be for you.
Sadly I felt indiferent to the story , but I totally recommend the first and second books from this series . For me they were way better .👌
Meet my soulmate: a shapeshifting immortal prince who abhors dirt and is allergic to dust. Oh and... he is also cursed and without a heart. Yup, my mama did raise a predictable kinda gal.
“Why are you here?” His eyes narrowed. “And you’re angry. Why are you angry? Did something happen?” He could take his false concern and choke on it. “You happened you . . . you . . . you cad.” His brows flicked up. “I’m a cad, am I?” “You are worse than a cad. You’re a fiend—and a villain.” The corner of his lips lifted ever so slightly. “Thank you.” “It wasn’t a compliment!” “Maybe not to you.”
LISTEN, I know the ending was rushed and the time skip was a bit...wobbly but but BUT! They are wholesome. They are hilarious. They are wicked and annoyed and sweet and just... lovely okay?! Also a delicious specimen of enemies to lovers banter. A match made in heaven... Or rather, hell 😍💖 Returning to this world was like I never even left... Though I must admit that seeing Tadhg in the depths of his drunken wallow and despair made me tear up a bit, poor bastard. And Rian... Gods have mercy on me and my heart beacuse I have found a new husband.... who is allergic to dust and my many shelves and trinkets certainly won't do in such a scenario. Also he is beautifully wicked and an absolute gem of a trickster who is very handy with a dagger. Also dark hair. And blue eyes. And he builds his soulmate a cottage on the sea cliffs with a garden full of flowers. Did I mention the knife kink? He has a knife kink. ... Listen, he is basically Loki. In other words, I didn't even stand a chance to begin with. I'm in love and I want more. And I wanna snog the shit out of my immortal, heartless and sneezing prince. Yup, that's it. That's my review 🙋🏻♀️✨
This book is incredible!!! Mix "A Court of Thorns and Roses series" with Irish mythology and you have a cursed heart!
This book tells the story of Aveen and Rian, it brings us behind the scenes of the first book (A Cursed kiss) and beyond. It is gripping, heartbreaking and raw!!!
What I loved most about A Cursed heart was how relatable the characters are! Aveen is so strong and loyal, I loved her from the very start. Rian, my heart broke for him. I loved him so much!
It was amazing. I think I highlighted most of the dialogues in this arc because they moved me so much!
A massive thank you to Jenny Hickman for a copy of this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
This was really good. I loved Rían, although I don't know if more than Tadhg. But it's really close.
Sometimes I kinda found Aveen really judgmental and kinda annoying. Yes, the Gancanagh and whatnot but at least give him a chance to prove his love for your sister bruh 🏃🏻♀️
"He was like a flame, beautiful and enticing. But flames scalded and burned. And a woman in my position couldn't afford to be reduced to ash."
This is another gem of a book by rising romantasy star Jenny Hickman! I loved this second novel in the Myths of Airren series, which focuses on new faces while featuring some familiar ones that made me SQUEAL when they (*cough* HE) showed up. Without giving too much away, this tale cleverly and seamlessly slots into the A Cursed Kiss story as if everything is happening at one time, in real-time. A Cursed Heart centres on Keelynn's protective older sister Aveen, who I LOVED for her unapologetic, at-times hilarious general bad-assery, and her mysterious, love-hate-love-hate-love-hate-let-me-kiss-you-now beau, Rian. While this story is a harmonious addition to Hickman's 'fated with a fae' series, this story stands alone and differs from Tadhg and Keelynn's. The tale begins as Aveen is being pressured to marry by her father and believes it to be a fate worse than death and her no more than a chess move in her father's game. Loyal only to her sister, Aveen finds that the only man she is actually attracted to is cheek-clutchingly unsuitable, and of course, we love it!! A step above even Tadhg for me on the cute ladder, Rian is super sarcastic, super arrogant, and super sexy. The banter between Aveen and him is foreplay, and the end-game is me wiping drool off my screen. There are dark curses to be broken and heartbreaking sacrifices to be made, plenty of LOL moments, and some twisty, delicious surprises to look forward to. If you love dark fairytales and romance, this is your series!
This book is divided into two parts : Before and After Aveen dies. I loved the Before. The After was so incredibly boring i found myself skimming through it all 💀
This is the second book in the Myths of Airren series. This series unbelievable fascinating. I love it 😍 The amount of magic and mythical creatures that cross this story is incredible.
Although it wasn't as good as the first book, it was definitely an exciting and interesting book.
I mean, otherwise I wouldn't have read it in one day 😊
But my opinion could be due to my love for Tadhg from the first book 😂 What can I say, he's an addictive character.
This is his brother Rían's story. His annoying, cocky and lying half-fae half-brother story. Yes, they're like night and day, but in their own unique way, love each other 😂 You really need to read this series. I can't explain this inside joke. You've to read it to understand this crazy, sometimes creepy magic world and their "murderous relationship".
Rían is a master manipulator. He hides behind glamour and lies. He won't let anyone near him, until he meets Aveen. Aveen is loyal, smart and well-mannered. A lady from a good home. Then she meets Rían and her life changes drastically.
Read this book. Enjoy the crazy rollercoaster of emotions and wild adventures on the mythical island. You'll love it!
I didn’t think I would love Rían as much as I loved Tadhg but… damn. Jenny made me fall in love with brothers. These finicky fae princes. *Swoon* And Rauri 😭 I love these characters so much.
I can’t praise this series enough. All time favorites. I need all the physical books so I can annotate them like crazy.
ALSO the audiobooks are some of the best I’ve ever listened to.
It’s been a good long while since I’ve had a proper book hangover and I’m almost certain this book right here has done it!! Coming off of both A Cursed Kiss and Prince of Seduction, I knew I adored the characters in this world and was wholly intrigued by Rian’s grumpiness and Aveen’s future (especially after the ending of Prince of Seduction) but I was not ready for how their characters were going to thoroughly consume my heart!!
This book is split into 2 parts, the first being Aveen’s first encounter with Rian and her inevitably entering into her curse. The second part of course picks up as soon as she opens her eyes and continues on from there past both the timelines of ACK and PoS. Getting to know Aveen prior to Keelynn’s story was eye opening, a little heart cracking, and leaves you entirely smitten with the eldest sister. She has so much love, loyalty, selflessness, and fire about her, but will sacrifice herself for it all when it comes to her sister. It’s a great depiction and as the oldest sibling myself I could appreciate where she was coming from SO much. Her story after she wakes up is equal parts amazing and heart-wrenching as she comes to terms with everything that transpired during her slumber. I absolutely LOVED the development of her relationship with Tadgh and Ruairi and the twists and turns in her journey had me laughing, screaming, crying, gasping, and then doing it all over again.
Rian. Where do I even begin with this Prince. Where Tadgh was a laid back, hilarious, warm and fuzzy, kidnap your heart with a laugh and a vicious glint in his eye, kind of book boyfriend Rian was none of those things. He is an absolutely unhinged, crazy, vicious, slightly scary, obsessive, morally gray, smoking hot, total arse with a dry sense of humor and I am THOROUGHLY OBSESSED AND IN LOVE WITH HIM. Watching him meet his match in Aveen over and over again, and seeing him fall for the many “versions” of Aveen is hilarious, adorable, and wildly crazy. His story is every bit as devastating as Tadgh’s if not slightly moreso and while I still have a LOT of questions regarding the brothers’ curses, the amount of backstory and development in this book is staggering.
I cannot wait for Rian’s POV with Prince of Deception (what DID he say to Aveen that night in the townhome? Will we get to see him press his shirts? Also HERE for the incoming farmer content!!!), but I also am going to be losing my mind waiting for A Cursed Love because the twists at the end of this book have me reeling and already bracing myself for the aftermath.
This series is officially one of my favorites of all time…if you need me, I’ll be listening to the audiobooks on loop for the foreseeable future.
Oh I loved this!!!!! A morally grey Prince, yes please! 😍 This is full of bargains, curses and kisses... oh my! I just adored every minute and was turning pages so fast at the end!
I really enjoyed the first book about Aveen's sister but I think I liked this one even more!!! I was hooked right away. I loved the flirty, "I hate you" banter and their chemistry was so great! But the tender moments just had me swooning so hard. Also, a specific dungeon scene was 🔥🙌!
I desperately need more of Rian because he stole my heart! 😉💖 Can't wait for the next book! Definitely recommend giving this a read if you're looking for a good Romantasy! It sort of gave me Caraval vibes at times! Maybe it's the sister bond/bargains.
A Cursed Heart is the second book in the Myths of Airren series. It can be read as a standalone; however, would be enjoyed more as a sequel to A Cursed Kiss to avoid spoilers.
ACH follows Aveen & Rían's story from enemies to partners in deception to lovers.
What to expect:
+Enemies to Lovers +One Bed +Morally Grey Characters +"Who Did This To You?" +A Stabby Heroine +Snarky banter +HEA
"Steam" rating for ACH is a 6 on the RCRS (Romantic Content Rating System). (ie. multiple on-page sex scenes with tame descriptions/focus on thoughts & feelings)
2.5☆ The concept of this story could have made this a great book, but there was just something missing that didn't allow me to enjoy this like I thought I would. It's a combination of the unimpressive MMC, whose intended charm and supposed mysterious nature fell flat, and how the series of events were such a mess. The romance felt forced too - the final nail in the coffin. It's sad because I really wanted to like this, and I thought I would, given the 4.27☆ avg rating as of today by over a thousand reviewers. Oh well~ I'm glad others enjoyed it much more than I have.
Um can I give this book 6 stars?! Okay first of all, Rian is hilarious and everything I want in an MMC. He’s Dorian Havillard and Rhysand combined. And I relate so much to Aveen. I kicked my feet, had butterflies, and laughed out loud. This is the PERFECT cozy fantasy rom-com ❤️❤️❤️
Also the audio book is a duet narration and was done SO well!
“Most of all, I hated the way he made me yearn for dark, forbidden things.”
Rían… when I tell you this man is SO FINE, so SCRUMPTIOUS 🤌🏻✨
You ever come across the scene in The Vampire Diaries where Kathrine tells Elaine that “it’s okay to love them both, I know I did.” Well, that is how I feel about Rían and Tadgh. Silly me thought there was no way that Rían could compare to Tadgh but yet, here I am proclaiming that they both are strong book boyfriends and I will not choose!
As for the plot of this book, I had no idea how A Cursed Heart’s story would unfold since it’s a mix of before, during and after the events in A Cursed Kiss but it transitioned so smoothly. Part of me wasn’t ready to say bye to Keelynn and Tadgh’s story but I loved every moment of the witty banter between Rían and Aveen. Aveen’s character is your typical older sister who tries to play her role perfectly to keep her sister away from the harsh reality of a woman in their society. She is willing to do anything for her, including marrying 🤢 Robert 🤮 She makes ya so proud when she starts breaking out of her shell and saying fuck it to societal norms. She’s like the Elsa to Keelynn’s Anna and I love them both individually for their journeys.
Rían is a sassy man’s and I love it when he morphs into other peoples - especially when he morphs into a lady. He is a master manipulator, cocky, fighter of all things dusty, murderous and overly organized pain in the ass but book besties, he’s OUR pain in the ass and we love him for it.
There is some spice in this book if that is something ye fancy. I wouldn’t say it’s overly spicy though, like 2 🌶🌶 outta 5 and even then, I would say 2 is pushing it but I mean everyone’s spice level is different so take it for what it is I guess 🤷🏼♀️
I CANNOT and I mean CAN NOTTTT wait for the next book in this series. I need to know what happens next!
I don’t know what to do with myself. I feel like I am going to have THE WORST book hangover ever after this.
@readingforthethrill your book rec has done it again and I am completely hungover. I adored this, @authorjennyhickman you have my heart, my money and my time, I am in love!
We read book two from Aveens POV and I love her! You find out why she done what she did in book one in this one and I think she is so selfless, caring and such a loving sister - it touched my heart. I feel like any questions I had from book one has been answered in A Cursed Heart.
I wasn’t keen on Rain at first, he comes across as a very arrogant, selfish, uncaring, unkind fae... but, when you get to know him and further on in the book, he is such a gent with a good heart(ish)!
The book had a lot more sexy smut which I was living for. The banter was exceptional but it was very dark and violent, there was a lot more violence and it was very vivd.
I’d highly recommend as it won’t let you down, it gave me ACOTAR vibes to an extent and I was digging it. I’m so sad its over.
I loved this book. Part 1 followed the other side of the story that we didn't get to see in A Cursed Kiss and it was amazing! We get to see Aveen's POV of view and I have to say that she is the best sister to Keelynn. She made so many decisions based on her happiness and you have to admire her for it.
My favourite parts are definitely the fun and sexy banter between Aveen and Rian. They had such great chemistry from the beginning and it explodes on page. The spice is perfect! Enough to satisfy without having to be too explicit with more of a focus on emotions and feelings. One of my favourite types of spice. And the emotional turmoil the characters go through is heartbreaking.
The world is amazing, the dialogue is witty (I loved Aveen's inner monologues), the romance is spot on and it was such a fun adventure, plus I enjoyed seeing some characters from A Cursed Kiss (Tadhg!) again.
Thank you Jenny for letting me read an ARC of this book. It was much loved and enjoyed.
“And now that I’ve found you, I’ll not let you go.”
A Cursed Heart is out and I love it more every time I read it. Welcome to the world Aveen & Rían. Your love is stabby and swoony and snarky and I live for it. Build me a shack and some flowers Jenny because I’m staying in this magical world plagued by monsters and magic and curses and princes.
Read if you love: ✔️ Romantasy ✔️ Morally Grey Heroes ✔️ Fortunes & Fate ✔️ Wicked Fae Princes ✔️ “I choose violence” vibes 🗡 ✔️ Curses & Lore ✔️ Soulmates ✔️ BANTER 👏🏼 ✔️ Spiiiice 🐓 (ifkyk) ✔️ The power of choice and deserving better ✔️ Gardening & Flower Appreciation 💐 ✔️ Rian Rian Rian… Rian… chant it with me
Rating: 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spiceometer: 🌶 🌶 - there’s a dungeon…😈
1. Aveen is so much more relatable than Keelynn. 2. The forced tension between them while in public at the castle was like 🤌🏻 perfect. THE BANTER!! 3. My poor precious bb, Rian 💜 4. Ruairi needs more love 5. Eava is the true star of these books
Very unusual for me, but I actually loved this more than the first book! Aveen and Rion are seriously the best characters. On the outside, Aveen is a button upped young women, having to face the world as a woman controlled by her father. Inside though, she's bold, funny, and wanting to break free from her confines. Rion is an absolutely unhinged (but in the BEST way) fae prince.
The story picks up, and mostly stays, before the events of the first book. I wasn't sure how I felt about that, since I basically "knew" the ending in a way from reading the first book, but this still won me over. The story follows how Aveen set up her cursed kiss, and her relationship with Rion. I love love love the two of them together. They are such a great match for each other. Aveen being a bit prickly, and Rion being such a morally grey, ridiculous (again in the best way) fae. The tension between the two was great, but then their actual falling in love way so sweet.
I was stressed reading this, I was laughing, and I couldn't put it down. HIGHLY recommend reading this, even if you didn't love the first book. It's so much better (I think because I love Aveen and Rion so much)!
