A dark witch dynasty. A malicious, immortal undersea place-spirit. Eternal guardians who wagered their souls to protect Charleston.
Omens of impending disaster have the city on edge. Tremors warn of earthquake risk, while a potentially catastrophic storm gathers strength over the ocean and heads for land.
A last-man-standing promise among elderly veterans creates a dangerous inheritance involving an imprisoned, wish-granting goblin. A sea captain and a swashbuckler worked blood magic to protect Charleston from an ancient evil with a spell that bound their souls and their descendants to the task, but danger looms as its power fades. The head of a witch family wants artifacts and secrets—and he’ll do anything to get them.
Cassidy Kincaide runs Trifles and Folly, an antique and curio store where her touch magic helps get cursed and haunted objects out of the wrong hands. More than once, she and her allies have saved the world from supernatural threats.
The clock is ticking for Cassidy and her friends to stop the dark warlock, capture the goblin and restore the guardian spell before a malevolent ancient entity takes its vengeance on Charleston and the coast. It’s going to take all the magic, courage and quick thinking they can muster—and for once, that might not be enough.
Legacy is an action-packed urban fantasy paranormal thrill ride full of dark magic, infernal creatures, goblins and demigods, haunted places, pirate ghosts, found family, witch dynasties, loyal friends, Voudon spirits, secret history and plenty of adventure.

I’m already a huge fan of this author and series, and this one didn’t disappoint. I liked how it built on previous books in the series, and I always enjoy the cameos from the bigger world this series is a part of.
I love how the MCs work together, and the strong vibe of found family. Cassidy and Teag’s friendship is a strong element within the book, and I love Sorren. I wouldn’t want to get on his wrong side.
I liked the mystery of the plot and how it tied to the past, and Ramon and Gideon’s story which is a mix of historical, adventure, and romance. I liked how the author doesn’t hold back about how dangerous it was for two men to be in love then, and I’d love to read more about their adventures together. I also liked how Beck is growing into his own, and his relationship with Logan. I love the Briggs Society. The idea of a building that isn’t tethered in time and/or space totally rocks.
Taking down the bad guys isn’t easy, which is realistic, and the showdown doesn’t exactly go as planned. I liked how everyone plays their part, and it needs the combination of everyone’s experience and talents.
The world building is fabulous, and I love how all the elements and backstory come together and build into more with each more book. The magical side of things is well thought out, and I like how it isn’t without cost. I enjoy the politics, history, and different factions of the supernatural world too.
Oh this is perfect! You can bv new to the series or already a fan this story will catch your interest and not let you free until the last page .I loved the mystery with some historical elements and pirates that was such a bonus! Cassidy is confronted to not one but two investigations and the omens tend to show that time is very limited so she has to discover some past elements linked to her city but at the same time some asian knowledge is needed as well....so she is very lucky to have a lot of different allies with multiple talents. I loved to see the evolution of some characters and also discover new ones
It was wonderfully written to keep on edge and wanting more.
I also love how the M/M relationships are described, it's not graphic so it does not hurt any sensisibilies there are shown as true love relationship and we can see the deep of some and i really appreciated that.
really if you love urban fantasy with investigation, lots of creatures and magical beings this one is a must read
LEGACY is a wonderful addition to the Deadly Curiosities series and one I devoured in a matter of days after rereading the first 4 books. I love how you can just pick any book in the series, and you won’t be confused over anything as each book really stands on its own, but I do recommend reading it in order as each book capitalizes on one another. This time, Cassidy and the gang are up against something they never had to deal with, an immortal elemental who is determined to get their revenge on the two privateers who held her captive for a very long time. With each page the reader is drawn into the world of the Deadly Curiosities and how each character’s magic and strength is about to be tested in ways they were not anticipating.
This series delivers all my happy notes: action, amazing characters, unique magic, intriguing mysteries that run the gauntlet of things and more. All this is my catnip, so to speak and I just love how LEGACY delivers all that and more. With this newest addition to the series, the reader is taken on a journey that is filled with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Ms. Martin delivers more within these pages than ever before, and I can not wait to see if she continues this series in either novella or novel format in the future. There is so much potential to have other things crop in Charleston that I am eager as ever to see where the author goes with the characters and the series.
If you are looking for a wild, action-packed paranormal series to devour, I highly recommend the Deadly Curiosities series to you. Its fun, has humor, some romance and a mystery that leaves you guessing till the end. Now the question is, can we get more?
This is an objective review and not an endorsement
Full disclosure, I was given an advanced copy as an arc reader for the author. I was not paid for my review.
This is a excellent addition to the Deadly Curiosities series. Ms. Martin has once again managed to write a book that is difficult to put down and plays parts in my dreams (which is one sure fire way for me to know that the book has gotten into my soul). In previous books, she brings in lore from different cultures, and ties it into the mystery of the supernatural world. One thing she is also very good at is being able to explain places, characters, and story lines, reintroducing us to them, as return readers to the series, and also for someone who had not previously read any of Deadly Curiosities series could pick right up and still deeply enjoy this book. One spoiler, new unexpected lore has been brought in and it had me guessing about how it was going to tie into the final battle in this book. As my heart was pounding from the final battle of a wicked warlock and a not so happy genius loci, I thought Cassidy might make it out of this one unscathed. The question you have to ask yourself is, did she survive the final battle this time or was it too much? Time for you to find out!
P.S. I am really looking forward to Teag and Anthony's wedding in a future book. This book dropped some hints that I think will tie in later, and make their wedding very interesting.
Audio review: This is a book 5 in the Deadly Curiosity Series You don’t have to read in order as each book is a different story in an ongoing story, but reading from the beginning you have a better understanding of the characters and setting. Cassidy and her business partner run a shop called Trifles and Folly’s That handles magical items that don’t need to fall into the wrong hands and make sure they get where they need to go safely.
In this book Legacy a missing bottle with a wish granting goblin inside needs to be found before the demon is unleashed. In the meantime omens start happening And hurricanes, and earthquakes start up. How can Cassidy and her group of misfits figure out what’s happening, find the stolen bottle, all with an evil witch on their tails? I may have forgot to mention, angry seawitches, ghosts , sea goblins, and sea Gods
I love these books but I really love listening. This is a spin off from the Morgan Brice World’s as Cassidy us Simons cousin so more good reading! I loved the narration. It keeps you pulled into the story, the voice is smooth and easy to listen to. And Keeps all the excitement going. Cat gives this 5 meows ( no heat index it’s not a romance)

Book 5 of The Deadly Curiosities, supernatural series, was chock full of adventure, and things that go bump in the night. I strongly urge you to catch up with the series. Ms. Martin gives you backstory in her books, but so much happens it will be helpful. The story continues with an alliance between mortals and immortals that keep deadly objects, and specters from causing harm.
Cassidy is a psychometric. She has the unique ability that can read an object’s past history, and magical marks. This is riskier than it sounds as Cassidy and her crew have stumbled on some seriously dark, and dangerous magic. Her partner who helps her is Teag, who has the ability to weave charms into objects for protection. I love this character so much. He is wicked smart, and always has Cassidy’s back.
Running a curio-antique store which is located in Charleston, takes up only part of their time. A great deal is done behind the scenes, keeping really serious, sinister spirits, and creatures from creating mass havoc.
This book has many challenges our heroine must overcome, including a missing bottle with a rather unusual problem. The bottle holds a genie-like creature trapped inside that can grant wishes. The bottle needs to be found as in the wrong hands this could be devasting on a global size.
My favorite part of the book was learning about two lovers named Gideon and Ramon. These men from the past managed to preserve peace which now is being threatened by a dark Warlock. Their relationship was very complex, and I am just skimming the surface. As I stated, Cassidy, and friends, have a lot on their hands, and so much is happening all at once.
The book had all of Ms. Martin’s special touches. Toward the middle of the story, the reading became more challenging for me. The number of characters in the book, and the numerous looming disasters we’re starting to get hard to keep track of. Now that just might have been me, and I do recommend this novel.
So, get ready for some major evil, witches, curses, ghosts both good and bad, plus a whole lot more. Rest assured this book will not disappoint. I enjoyed this ghostly adventure, and hope you do too. Happy reading!

This review is for the audiobook, which I really enjoyed overall. The dual stories of the goblin and the sea witch were exciting and engaging, and I liked the way they eventually wove together. I absolutely loved the story of Gideon and Ramone. I love historical MM romance, and theirs was sweet, low-key sexy, and enthralling. The action and investigations were interesting, but eventually the number of characters, contacts, witches, ghosts, elementals, and other supernatural beings got a little overwhelming, especially with some characters channeling other beings. I really felt like I needed a glossary to help me keep them all straight. I do like when characters crossover in an author's series, but this time it seemed like a little too much. (For me. YMMV.) In addition, there was a lot of suspense and build-up throughout the book, but the ending seemed comparatively short/quick and easy. (Again IMO. YMMV).
There were also a couple of things/events that kind of drew me out of the story. The first was when they found a woman's dead body (if you read or listen to it you'll know what I mean), they just...left. They made sure they didn't leave any signs they had been there (protecting themselves), but that was it. They didn't call the police or 911, they didn't call any of their alliance friends for clean-up, they just left it, I guess for someone else to find and worry about. That just seemed cold, unfeeling, and irresponsible. The other thing that was never cleared up was how Etheridge kept finding Cassidy. Although these things didn't affect the eventual outcome, they threw me out of the story thinking about them.
The narration was good, and I have to give the narrator kudos for being able to pronounce some of the names!
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
I keep saying this in every review I do for a Gail Z. Martin / Morgan Brice book: I love how she gives you enough information in each story so that you can read the books as standalones and not feel like you’re lost. It’s so helpful if there’s been a lengthy pause between reading each story.
This is the first audiobook I’ve listened to performed by Courtney Patterson and think she did a great job. It’s often jarring for the listener when the voice actor changes in the middle of a series but I didn’t feel that way with this book.
I loved getting to visit again with many of the characters from previous books in this series. There are lots of spooky characters, a captivating plot, danger and adventure that kept me on the edge of my seat for much of the story. Cassidy found herself in great peril, more than I remember from the other stories I’ve read in this series.
Since I’ve read the books in this series out of order, I do have a bit of catching up to do and I can’t wait!
A copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author
The last of a family has passed away, Trifles and Folly have been entrusted with an old key and a journal that was written by the patriarch of that family in the 1700s. Unfortunately, there is a wish granting goblin on the loose, and the head of a powerful witch family wants it, the journal, and any other powerful artifact that can give him enough power to control an ancient sea elemental. He will do anything, even kill, to destroy the guardians that have kept Charleston safe for centuries and make his family even more powerful. Before Cassidy and her friends can even attempt to repair the spell though, they have to track down and capture the goblin and ensure that it can no longer wreck havoc on the city. Wow! Exciting action, dark magic, pirates, ghosts, goblins, powerful sea creatures, and unexpected twists in the plot. This book has it all. I love these characters. The realistic interactions between these loyal friends and their powerful acquaintances in an effort to save the city they love and call home make it impossible to put this book down.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This book is the 5th volume in a series that I listened to as an audiobook and liked overall. There are lots of magical characters. I welcome that in principle, but at some point the multitude of characters, ghosts, witches and other supernatural beings were almost a bit too much for me. It wasn't always easy to keep track of everything. The buildup of tension, the events and the storyline were captivating and exciting. I really liked the stories of the sea witch and the goblin. The storyline overall was interestingly spun as a group of magical people are on a quest to find a bottle containing a djinni. And time is ticking for Cassidy and her friends. Now it's time to move fast. There is plenty of action and adventure, magical moments, but also dark magic and lots of interssant characters. The end was almost a little too fast for me. The audiobook was narrated by Courtney Patterson and I thought the narration was good and must commend the narrator for it. I enjoyed the audiobook. I requested a free copy of the audiobook and this is my honest opinion that I am volunteering
This is one of my all-time favourite series. I love everything about it and look forward with much excitment to each new book as it becomes available.
I am a "Southern-phile" and so I enjoy the Charleston setting for the series, with plenty of sweet tea and polite manners . . . until there are monsters needing to be vanquished, of course!
Cassidy, Teag, Sorren and their extended group of paranormal people who help keep Charleson - and the world - safe are all delightful, charming characters that I very much enjoy.
I also love that Gail Z Martin is a master when it comes to pacing. These books have the perfect balance of entertaining character-driven "ordinary" moments and super-dramating, exciting and suspenseful "end-of-the-world" type thrill rides and I love every moment I spend reading these books.
I REALLY hope Martin has plans to continue her Deadly Curiosities series because I really, really love it!!
I absolutely adore Cassidy Kincaid and all of the books that revolve around this whole universe. There is such a diverse group of friends and allies that have become a found family that stop supernatural threats before they can cause harm. Gail Z Martin has a large cross over universe surrounding Trifles and Folly and they are all worth reading. This book has two mysteries going on in side by side that wind up getting tied together as Cassidy and Teague delve into the mystery behind a local shipping legend and a privateer. It is definitely worth a listen or a read. If you looking for more romance and less mystery in this world, you should probably go look up this author’s other pen name Morgan Brice. This series has some side romance going in but it is just a side note to the overall story.
I enjoyed the narration too if you like audiobooks. She did a good job and has a pleasant voice to listen to.
Charleston has never been more spooky or more paranormally thrilling. This novel has pirates, ghosts, sea monsters, a rich robber-baron type understudying the Sopranos and a threat of the storms of all storms - in addition to that most frightening of all things, the preparations for a high-society wedding. What a mess! What a thrill! What an adrenaline rush! Best of all, the author weaves in a couple of love stories and a couple of happy endings. I love happy endings ... particularly when one of those comes from the abatement of a threat to end the world! This novel has something for fans of pirate romances, action thrillers, supernatural combat suspense and upholders of social justice. This is a great read!
I received an ARC from Hidden Gems and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Trifles and Folly has been part of the protection for Charleston for generations. Now a centuries old evil is about to rise again and it will be up to Cassidy, Teag, and the rest of the crew to decipher clues left centuries before to once again save the day.
I loved Gideon's story and the way it interwove into the modern story. I also like how we get to see so many people coming together, everyone has a role and it truly does take a team to save the day. The Korean goblin was interesting (and did play a role in the overall story), but it still ended up feeling odd, like it did quite fit with everything else. Also the ending felt short, the story was over but I felt like it needed just something more to finish it out. Still a really great addition to the series.
4.75 Stars After taking a few months off from the Brice-Martin universe, it truly felt good to be back. This book has it all; A Gay Pirate Memoir, a Korean Wish-Granting Gin Goblin, and an Overly-Entitled, Shady-ass Warlock who badly needs a punch in the face. Oh, and then there’s that whole Sea Elemental thing who’s about to wreak total destruction on the Eastern seaboard. Cassidy & Co. have their hands full with this ever evolving case. The author does a terrific job of juggling the many facets of the plot which are all part of the same big picture.
I would have given it 5 stars, but I took off 1/2 star because the bratty warlock’s comeuppance was a bit underwhelming. I really wanted him to be utterly humiliated in front of his entire awful family. I then added 1/4 star for a character from the musical Once on This Island being in the story.
Be warned, there is no intimacy in this book, it's all about the mystery. We have so much going on, one story being set in the past, way past, with Gideon & Ramon who are both ship captains of their own ships. They are also lovers of men, which in their time could get them jailed & killed. There is also a genie type creature who they are trying to recapture. And we have a warlock who is trying to get his hands on Gideon's journal as he wants the power of a sea witch that Gideon & Ramon made the ultimate sacrifice to keep her contained. Cassidy and all of her friends, have more than their hands full. The story did keep you on the edge of your seat. This can be read as a stand-a-lone as I have not read the other books in the series. I have met these characters in other series written under Morgan Brice.
I rec'd a copy of the audiobook from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest opinion.
Legacy is Book 5 in the Deadly Curiosities series. This is another well written, action packed, adventure story as Cassidy Kincaide and her friends unravel a mystery from the past to save the present and future. There is so much going in this book from beginning to end. I love all the stories from this world. I really enjoy getting to know all the characters and look forward to each story so I can see how everyone is doing and what creatures, ghosts, haunted artifacts, and other paranormal happenings the team is getting up to. I love Cassidy's ghost dog. He's so protective and ready to do whatever is asked of him. If you enjoy urban fantasy paranormal stories you don't want to miss this series. Narrator Courtney Patterson does a fabulous job. She is a joy to listen to and really brings the story to life.
Cassidy Kincaide, with her touch magic and her motley crew, works to keep Charleston safe. As one of the most haunted cities in America, she needs all the help she can get. Cassidy runs Trifles and Folly – an antique store that handles some very interesting treasures. When the store is bequeathed a diary, things get really interesting.
I loved the story of Ramon and Sullivan – the long-dead lovers who fought evil spirits and who did their best to protect people from ill. Their romance captured my attention. As did some of the modern-day couples as well.
This book culminates in the ultimate battle between good and evil and I wondered if Cassidy could come through this in one piece.
I’ll give a shout out to Courtney Patterson who does a great job of narrating these books. I enjoyed it and am glad I listened.
I was given a complimentary copy of the audio version of the story and I freely leave this review. I really enjoyed this story and the well written universe makes me want to read more. I loved this universe. It was a bit spooky and a bit natural. I loved the setting in Charleston. I loved the storyline. It was really interesting to me. A group of magical people who protect the world from bad magical objects are on the hunt for a bottle with a jinn in it. I liked the characters and they felt real to me. I really rooted for them. I enjoyed following them on their search. I liked the dialogue and I think that the narrator did a great job with Gail's words.
The genuine, unadulterated love, the commitment, and all the power, motivated by a pair of men who lived during a time that refused to accept every kind of love -- I've never been so touched, so moved, by the final sacrifice that, even hundreds of years later, never faltered in resolve and love.
I absolutely recommend this book, the others in.this series, and everything elsr by this author, who has a special, matter of fact, yet often poetic style of writing that will endear her characters to you as well as pull you along every thrilling, fearsome event they find themselves a part of. Just brilliant. Five stars just don't seem enough..
I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy. It keeps you on the edge of your seat as Cassidy and her friends try to find a goblin in a bottle which leads to a far more serious problem. A guardian spell is breaking down and what it can unleash will destroy Charleston and the coast. Unfortunately an evil and greedy witch is trying to get the goblin and what he thinks is a grimoire. It takes all of them to stop him and renew the guardian spell with a very interesting use of the goblin. I really love this series.
Gail Z. Martin has been one of my favourite authors for quite a while. I get that little jolt when I see a new book arrive. The "Deadly Curiosities" series is set in modern-day Charleston, revolving around the main character, Cassidy Kincaide, and the antiques store she owns ("Trifles & Folly"). This 5th novel is a fast read, with a great plot. Obviously, the writing is brilliant - it's Gail Z. Martin! I'm looking forward to more in this series.
My thanks to the author and Hidden Gems. This review was written voluntarily and is entirely my own, unbiased, opinion.
It’s always a lot of fun to read a story with Cassidy and friends as they solve another supernatural mystery. This one had a decent amount of build up and suspense. I had a lot of fun listening to it and the narrator did a fantastic job. The characters are so much fun and I love the relationships they have with each other. I want more of these fun characters and their mysteries. Definitely a series well worth the read and a lot of fun.
I'm a big fan of the the Deadly Curiosities novels and absolutely love Cassidy Kincaide stories. This time out, we get Cassidy, some steamy pirates and a Korean genie in a bottle! What more could you ask for?
I love how Ms. Martin weaves in the real history of Charleston. Her books always send me looking for more info on Charleston, this time the history of the Yellow Fever epidemics.
Hold onto your hats. This latest edition to the Deadly Curiosities series takes off at high speed and doesn't let up. Gail Z. Martin cleverly weaves characters from her other series into this exciting story. Wish-granting goblins, superstorms, and dark warlocks, oh my. Cassidy Kincaide and her friends have their hands full trying to save Charleston, and possibly, the world.
Legacy is a fantastic addition to the Deadly Curiosities series!! I seriously love Cassidy, Taeg and Sorren sooo much! The way the author intertwines the story with previous stories is fantastic! I recently had the opportunity to review the audio version, sooo freakin good! Courtney Patterson does a fantastic job with the narration!!
I am a huge fan of Gail Z Martin and her Deadly Curiosities series! This book is one of my favorites in the series and it was a delight to hear the wonderful narration made by Ms. Patterson. She managed beautifully all the amazing characters in this new adventure in the series. A captivating plot, full of danger and action and a great mystery to solve. Great addition to the series! Loved it!
I always enjoyed Deadly Curiosities and listening to this narration just reinforces that enjoyment. Something about Cassie and everyone in this world makes me smile. It's that combination of wonderful characters with a little mystery and paranormal.
The narration is amazing! Thoroughly enjoy how it's brought to life.
Courtney Patterson does a great job bringing all the characters to life and Martin has created a real sense of place with the Charleston in this story. Our heroes have to work hard and fast here as the protection spell steadily weakens to deal with the warlock and goblin as well as restore the spell and protect the city from natural disasters.
Another great story. Yet again another story with lots of appearances by lots of her other series characters. I am really loving this series and am hoping for more for this great group of characters. I am planning on rereading some of the other series I have already read and also start several series I have not had a chance to read yet. I am anticipating a whole lot of Martin/Brice reading coming my way.
