Life has a funny way of pulling you in when you least expect it. It’s been a few years since I was back at The Perished Riders MC clubhouse, and fuck, it’s damn near the same. I don’t know what I thought would happen in my time away. I left because my dad was stuck in the past, unable to move the club forward into the present day, so it shouldn’t be surprising that the hell hole hasn’t changed since I was a kid.
It’s also no surprise that now the miserable bastard is dead, there’s not much left to salvage.
But I’ve stepped up, just like my brothers wanted me to, and I’m making changes. I’m gonna run this place straight, the way it should have been ran all those years ago.
But the dead have a funny way of leaving a legacy, and it ain’t always good. Eagle’s presence lingers like a fucking bad smell, and everywhere I turn, there’s another mess he left behind.
The road is calling me, and I’m beginning to think the club ain’t worth it, but then life throws me a curveball in the form of Rylee Carter.
Rylee
Do you ever wonder when your life became this? Wake, eat, sleep, repeat . . . oh, and don’t forget to throw in the odd beating. Marrying Grant Carter was not my finest moment, nor was becoming his prisoner. Slowly, he made me dependent solely on him, and now, I’m stuck here. Wake, eat, sleep, repeat.
It’s by chance that my new neighbour hears my cries calling to her from the pits of my own hell. Instead of ignoring me, she sends me a lifeline. One I grasp with both hands.
Being rescued by The Perished Riders MC was just the beginning of my journey. Since Maverick came into my life, things aren’t so mundane. He shows me just how strong I can be, and with him by my side, suddenly, everything seems possible.

«Maverick» is for me, a mix of Crystal Spears Breakneck-series and Toni Aleo’s «Let it be me».
Rylee and her three year old daughter is stuck in a abusive relationship, with no way out. Her saving comes in a form of a neighbour and survivor herself, who also happens to have some really great friends in The Perished Riders MC. They rescue Rylee and her daughter, taking them in for safekeeping. Here Rylee will grow and be independent. But there is also the clubs president; Maverick. His father has recently pasted away and left him with the big task of getting the club in order, financially but also between the people within. There is a lot of bad history and resentment to deal with. Maverick has changed a lot of his ways, and sees his father for the bad man he really was, and is now a struggling with a lot of guilt. As a way of dealing with this he wants the club to be a refugee for abused women. There is a lot of people connected to the club with different occupations that can contribute, for example his twin-sisters Meli and Hadley. These will probably have there own stories later.
Rylee feels something for Maverick. Her history with love isn’t a great one by any means, and she is hesitant. Maverick is the usual biker-hottie, used to the biker life with women and all that comes with. ”I’ve never had a man make me feel like he does, and it’s pathetic. He pays me a smidgen of attention, and I panic and run out of there. I roll my eyes. He must think I’m crazy.”
I had a hard time understanding Maverick. I understand that he was supposed to be portrayed as a good guy, but it was very ambivalent. I’m not sure I even really liked him 🥴 I like characters that’s more bad or totally good, the rollercoaster isn’t working for me.
But on the other hand I liked how Rylee got more and more secure in herself, and stood up for what she wanted. It wasn’t enough interaction with the child, I found this kind of weird. It was a lot of drunk and party vibe, and in there we have a little child that has grown up with her father beating her mother. I actually think the kid was unnecessary for the story.
Over all, it was a good read that kept my attention. I read it in one night, and got out of my book-funk 😉 It was predictable but still interesting.
- No cheating - OW/OM drama: h has a husband that wants her back at any cost. H has some clubwhore that wishes to be a old lady (like every other biker-book). - Dual POV - Triggers: Very high. - No epilogue, there was a lot of introductions of other characters that I believe will continue this series. ”It’s possible I’m just your rebound,” I add, leaning closer and inhaling her heavenly scent. “How will I know?” she asks. I press my tongue against her and lap her juices. She cries out. “You won’t,” I whisper, pushing a finger into her, “but I’ve had my heart broken before, and for you, I’m willing to risk it again.”
I always love reading stories from Nicola Jane. This one is no different! This is the story of Maverick and Rylee. Maverick is the president of the Perished Riders MC. He took over after his father was killed. Maverick had been missing from the club for a while as he took off riding one day and didn’t look back. Maverick decided he wanted to do things differently than his father and wanted the community to see them as something better than a bunch of criminals and lowlifes. Maverick wanted to start a program for battered women who needed a place to get back on their feet. This was something he felt very strongly about. Maverick also takes care of his family – his Mom Brea, his half-brother Crow and his twin sisters Hadley and Amelia. Rylee is the neighbor of Nelly who tends bar for the Perished Riders. Rylee is being abused by her husband (a cop) and Nelly can see all the signs and hears everything that is going on. Rylee wants to get away from her abusive husband, but is too afraid to try and she gets locked in when he leaves for work and she has not phone to get in contact with anyone.
Nelly reaches out to Maverick to help her neighbor. With a little pushing from Nelly, Maverick and his brothers get Rylee and her daughter out of the house and put her up in one of the rooms they have available. Maverick is very attracted to Rylee, but knows that now is not the time for him to be staring at her and having all these fantasies. Slowly but surely, Rylee comes out of her shell and starts helping out around the club by cooking. Maverick want to protect her, and sometimes goes about it the wrong way. Of course her husband starts trouble once he knows where she is and Rylee feels like she’ll never be safe again and contemplates going back.
This story has it all – drama, action, deception, realization, trust, loyalty, family, passion, strength and understanding. You also get some violence, revenge and justice! Part of Maveruck’s past comes back and takes care of business! Great story with great characters. I cannot wait to see what happens next in this series! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Maverick and Rylee saved each other in my eyes. He comes back to run the club and make things right. He saves Rylee and her daughter from an abusive relationship.
There is so much in the past that haunts this club and members. Betrayal comes out and taken care of. I also can't forget the Bada$$ Rosey.
Hmmm who will Grim be with will it be Hadley or Amelia or totally someone else.
I would have loved to see Ripped get more that just shot in the eye though. Also since they are helping domestic abuse victims it would be nice to "feel" what the victim is feeling instead of just being told.
Maverick and Rylee saved each other in my eyes. He saved her and her daughter from an abusive relationship. There's so much of the past that haunts this club. Betrayal comes and is taken care of. Oh and I loved bada$$ Rosey!
3.5 stars! Lots of triggers so be careful. I loved the heroine who was escaping an abuse situation. I also loved that the MC wasn't rich. that felt more realistic! There is some OW drama as well, which was annoying, but expected in an MC because of the club whores.
Maverick (Perished Riders MC #1) by Nicola Jane is an emotional, suspenseful story between Maverick and Rylee, this story will pull you in with the first chilling chapter. Maverick returns to take over the Perished Riders MC after the death of his father Eagle. All Maverick wants to do is turn the club around and fix the mess his father left, leaving the club in debt. He now will cut a deal with Arthur Taylor and his brothers who are connected to the Mafia in order to turn everything around and bring money into the club. Maverick is still haunted by his past and the pain and horror he had to live under his father's rules when he was forced at a young age to kill all due to his mother betraying his father. Now he has to deal with his twin sisters, one of whom has kept a dark secret from everyone and a half brother Crow who he despises to this day for what he did to the one woman Maverick loved all orchestrated by his father which led him to leave the club years ago. Now he will be caught into a dangerous situation when one of the club girls goes to Maverick and tells him that her neighbor is in trouble as she can hear screams coming from the house, but never seeing the woman or he child. At first Maverick tells her to investigate and get back to him if she learns anything. Maverick is eager to turn his club around, get out of the criminal side of business and the first thing he wants to do is to have a place where women can find shelter from abusive situations. Rylee Carter is an abused woman who is married to an A$$$hole of a husband who happens to be a cop who is after to take the club down. She is kept a prisoner in her home, beaten and at times starved in order for her husband Grant to keep her in line. Rylee knows she needs to protect her daughter but also fears that one day Grant will kill her. Maverick and the club decide to throw a BBQ for the townspeople and he also invited the local police in order to show them that the club is good for the town. When Maverick sees Grant Carter pulling a beautiful young woman and her daughter he can see the pain in her eyes. When her husband leaves for a moment Rylee takes her daughter to the rest room and she sees her husband and his partner having sex. When she turns to leave she talks to his partner and Grant rushes into the bathroom and interrogates her telling her he will take care of her once they get home. Maverick witnesses all and knows that he can't do anything at this time.
When Nelly hears screams from Rylee's home, she tries to get her to talk to her but Rylee is afraid so she calls the police. When Grants partner/mistress shows up to check on Rylee, Grant threatens Rylee to say she fell to cover for him. Shaken, bloody and freighted she lies for Grant and storms back to her room. Meanwhile Neely calls Maverick informs him what happened and he and his brothers are on the way to help Rylee. Now these two will be thrown into one hell of a situation in order to keep Rylee and her daughter save, they have to hide her at the clubhouse. Rylee is a broken young woman, but with Maverick, his mother and his sisters they help this young woman to heal, grow and help her find her inner strength. Maverick and Rylee's attraction is steamy from the start, but Maverick is giving her mix signals as he knows she has been hurt, he doesn't want to push her but he also won't allow any of his brothers near her especially Crow.
With all of the drama heading their way, Rylee will learn through Maverick that she was never married to Grant and now she is trying to divorce him. When she produces a diary that she kept all the years listing Grants abuse towards her she has a strong case, but Rylee is afraid to testify in court so she makes a deal in order for him to leave her alone, but Maverick learns Grant never had any intention to leave Rylee alone. Now Maverick will take matters into his own hands to make sure Rylee never has to live in fear again. When he sees Crow sniffing around Rylee all of the pent up anger between them erupts as they both see how Eagle used both of them as they agree to move forward Crow decides to leave the club to get his head together. As Maverick is in church, Crow will once again cause trouble by telling Rylee that Maverick killed her husband and that she needs to get away from him. Rylee is not sure what do do, but want to talk to Maverick first, as she tries to go back to the clubhouse Crow and Ripper try to drag her into the SUV until someone from the past protects her and her daughter. Unknown to them a sexy woman shows up, attacks Ripper and informs Crow to back off as he learns that this is Rosie and she is a hired killer who has returned to seek her revenge. As she yells at Ripper and tells him to stay away from Rylee's daughter all of the things he has been doing to Maverick's sister Meli comes out as well as Eagle knowing all about it. Now she will confront Crow yelling how he, Ripper and Eagle raped her and that he was going to pay for what he did without blinking an eye she kills Crow. Maverick hearing gunshots comes out to investigate and finds Rosie the woman he never thought he would see again holding a gun learns that she killed Crow and why. When he learns from Rosie what Ripper did to his sister since she was a young girl, he kills him. Now all of the lies and secrets come out, especially when Maverick learns that Rosie killed his father as he not only raped her but is the father of her son. So much pain and heartache surrounds Maverick and his family, now the club has to heal from this turn of events and now Rosie wants to come back to the club with her son. How will all of this playout with Maverick's family? Through all of this drama and pain, Maverick finds that the love that he and Rylee have is a strong one and when she agrees to be his ol' lady they look towards the future as a family. We now have to wait for the next book in this thrilling series to see how the Perished Riders MC will evolve into a profitable MC under Maverick's leadership.
I wouldn’t call this a great book, it was okay. I believe it was just under 200 pages. The storyline was predictable. A simple romance. I’ll most likely read a couple more of her books. If you were hoping for steamy you won’t find any between these covers.
Loved this book. Maverick left the perished riders Mc after bad stuff went down with his president father now he's back to take over the Mc after his father dies, rylee is married to an abusive cop thinking she has help until Maverick shows up to help her. Can he show her a real man is or is she scared?

It’s been a while since I’ve read an MC story and I will say my expectations were high. I’m delighted to say those expectations were met with Maverick.
Great storyline with some very likeable characters. The main characters Mav and Rylee are super good together and I was rooting for them from the start.
This is book one of the Perished Riders MC series and I’ll definitely be reading more of them.
Felt like the author glossed over a lot. Like they tried to fit more plot points and characters into the story then they were really capable of. The kid felt unnecessary, there was such little interaction with her it was strange. Some of the characters felt really shallow and that made them confusing for me in terms of trying to understand the way relationships were progressing.
I loved this. It was a captivating first in series. I was hooked from the start and it just kept getting more intense. This book touches on a very real subject and it’s done well. I can’t wait to go back and read the other books in the series.

A wonderful read, great characters and story line wonderful read This was a simply wonderful group that I simply enjoyed every moment of this simply wonderful book which brought together The Perished Riders who had recently been taken over by the eldest son Maverick. The club had been left in a terrible state with huge amount of unpaid bills and the possible loss of the club and the club building leaving the brothers homeless and his mother and sisters also without a roof over their head. Because of the abuse he had seen his mother go through at the hands of the old club President Eagle a man who was mean and had beaten his wife and sons and treated his daughter abominably as well. When Maverick is approached by one of the new employees at the club, she draws to his attention the fact that she believes her neighbour is being beaten by her husband who just happens to be a policeman. When she attends a club open day with her daughter and her husband it is obvious that she is being terrorised by her husband who also is having an affair with his police partner. Maverick and Riley are total opposites and yet for the first time she actually feels safe with the club members and the way they treat her daughter Ella, they have all been extremely kind to them both and she knows that she is safe in their care, her husband cannot beat her or continue to persecute her via her daughter Ella. As the story continues to open and she starts to get to know Maverick far better along with his twin sisters and step brother and mother she realises that Bikers are not at all as she expected and she feels bad for believing they were. However, there is a great deal more going on under the surface at the club that she could ever imagine and it seems as though a blast from his past has arrived to put things right. Read this amazing book and I am sure that you will enjoy every single moment and will be blown away by this amazing story. I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Maverick grew u p the son of the leader of Perished Riders MC. His dad was into violence and abused his mother. Maverick made his first kill as a child at his dad's orders. When he grew up he left his dad and MC behind for a better life. Now his father is dead and Maverick is back in town to lead the MC in a better way. He discovered that his dad left the MC in a mess financially and emotionally. Now he and his best friend Grim are trying to straighten up the mess. Maverick has decided that the MC would get involved with helping abused women escape their abusers. Then Nelly their new barmaid mentioned that she is afraid her neighbor is being abused by her cop husband. She asked Maverick for the MC's help if she finds out it is true. Later Nelly discovers that Rylee was badly beaten by her husband and was a captive in her own house. Maverick and the MC rescue Rylee and her little girl Ella. They promise to protect her and her daughter from her husband Grant and help her get a divorce. Maverick is drawn to Rylee's strength and courage and will do anything to keep her and her daughter safe and happy.
Rylee has been controlled by her husband Grant since she was a child. He isolated her at a young age and keep her away from anyone who might protest his actions. He was physically and verbally abusive. She was forced to marry him at 17 and he totally controlled her life. He didn't let her finish school or work. She didn't have any ID or phone. She was locked in the house while he worked. He told her repeatedly that there was no way to escape him and he would kill her if she tried to escape. The only joy in her life was her daughter Ella. After a severe beating from her husband in a jealous over-reaction, she was surprised when her neighbor offered to help. After som talk, she agreed to go with Maverick and the MC when they arrived to rescue her. She is surprised how strongly she reacts to Maverick. She seems to be aroused by him even though her experience with men was horrible. She would like to see where this thing with Maverick would go but her husband refuses to let her go.

I am not sure how many times I have revised this review. I know what I wanted to say, but the words wouldn't come to me. All of a sudden, it was like a revelation. I was trying to compare the Perished Riders MC to the King's Reapers MC, also written by Nicola Jane. It's a completely separate tone and vibe, which I really like. It's more of a dysfunctional family that happens to be set within an MC.
I didn't see the prequel,Riding Home, listed on Goodreads, but I did want to make a mention of it. I normally don't care for prequels, because I feel like the same information is repeated within the opening of book 1. However, I went ahead and gave it a try to see what I was in store for. I felt like it put me in the right mindset to enjoy this series. I highly recommend starting here. It not only set the right tone, but it was just enough to introduce this family's backstory and how things might turn out in the future.
Maverick is now the President of the Perished Riders MC. I would say that he has mixed feelings about it. Through a child's mind, life was pretty perfect as the president's oldest son. However, things were not as they appeared on the surface. As an adult, Maverick is starting to realize that his childhood ideology was actually built on lies and deceit. It's a conundrum that he can't just walk away from. I think this is what I like most about Maverick. He knows life's a mess. The club is going downhill, and there's no money, but he's willing to fight for change. He could have easily turned his back on all of it.
One of those changes is the very first community day which opens the clubhouse to the locals. It's an opportunity for the local law enforcement to scope out the MC. No one could anticipate that what was supposed to be a meet and greet actually turns out to be the start of Maverick's recognition of the past and the realization that Rylee might be his future. I just think that some of their story gets buried underneath all of the other plot lines that have been developed. It was still a good start to a new series, and I am looking forward to see what happens next.
I think Maverick was too wishy-washy as a president. He did some really messed up things. The first thing was leaving his first love Rosie after she basically got gang raped by his awful step brother, father and another gang member named Ripper, who was a child molester. Ripper also got away with repeatedly raping his younger sister from the time she was 11 years old. He didn’t know about his sister Melli’s abuse at the time, but he was well aware of what happened to poor Rosie. And the sickening thing is that apparently, Maverick was in love with her for years and instead of protecting her, he copped out and he sent her away because he felt guilty that he didn’t save her??? Really??? If you love someone that much, you stick by them! However, this messes the poor girl up and she just feels that she was used and no longer mattered to Maverick because he drove her away to find a new life. Wtf is that??? So, she ends up preggers by his dad and becomes a killer years later. Ugh. I don’t mind a dark MC trope but I like strong characters that have some sort of values and stick with them. He should’ve done away with his sicko brother and father from the beginning of the story when he found out! Not run away! Especially since that’s the type of man he was and wanted to continue to be. But he always seems to make excuses for himself and these bastards. So he leaves everyone in the MC for years until is dad is mysteriously murdered and comes back to take over his title as president. Then he happens to fall for a DV survivor, Rylee but even with her he messes up so many times. I just didn’t get the feels for him at all. So I’m not continuing the series unfortunately, which is a shame because it had a lot of potential. I also don’t really like cheating; which I think happens in some of the other books from what I read. Apparently his VP Grim goes from one Sister to another and I don’t like that either so definitely not my cup of tea😒

Absolutely loved Maverick and Rylee's story. I will start by saying it is not one for people who are triggered by abuse and the R word that rhymes with grape.
Maverick is the hardened the newly appointed President of The Perished Riders. His task it to dig the club out of the sh#t pit his father dug them into and that isn't easy.
Now my personal opinion is that some of Mav's brothers are a#seholes and have no respect for him, even his best friend and VP Grim disrespects Mav on occasion, despite being by Mav's side since the beginning. Also he p#ssed me off by the way he treated Rylee, flaunting another woman In front of her even know though they wasn't together, and the way he spoke down to her was something I felt was tasteless from him (even though he didn't want to be like his dad I think some habits rubbed off on him). But I get the picture Nicole was trying to paint of him, and you still can't help but feel for the young Mav and what he was put through, and not necessarily the grown man who knew what he was doing was crappy, despite wanting to be a better man and Pres.
Rylee is trapped with no way out, if she leaves he will kill her, and she can't leave her daughter motherless. Finally taking an offer of help, Rylee Finds herself jumping from one frying pan into another one, but this time she has to battle the rules and customs of a biker lifestyle. As much as she is finding herself she finds it hard to trust, and the hot standoffish Pres isn't making it any easy on her.
My opinion of Rylee was that she did what she could with the crappy hand she was dealt, and despite being a beaten and broken woman she still found an ounce of courage to push a burly bikers buttons. I found myself screaming for Rylee to slap Mav and take out Skye and show him what he was messing up and pushing away. But overall loved her character.
I think Nicola had a great plot idea, but really missed the mark sadly. The plot is unique to a degree as you don’t see it done often with MC romances, but it reminds me heavily of a different MC romance with similar themes.
There’s a lot of hype surrounding Rylee’s ex and how abusive he is, but you don’t really see it or read except for the occasional time. There’s a lot of suspense surrounding what Grant will do to get her and Ella back, but really nothing happens other than a police raid.
All of a sudden, Rylee and Maverick are telling each other that they love each other yet there’s barely any build up to their relationship. There’s confrontations between Rylee and Skye regarding Maverick, but you don’t really get much relationship building. They barely spend any time together and they barely have any type of intimacy and then it’s boom - I love you. She has a stronger build up with Crow than Maverick. When Crow tells her that Maverick had her ex murdered, you expect a confrontation of some sort between the two as she’s so upset over it. But nothing.
And then towards the end, you’re introduced to Maverick’s first love who comes back for vengeance against some of the club members with no build up as to why she’s coming for revenge. And the club just welcomes back this chick with open arms.
I think Nicola had a great idea with the plot but she tried to cover too much with too many characters which caused the plot to be all over the place and the character development was left behind. I think this could have read better if she allowed the characters to develop more, built up the drama and saved some of the drama for future books.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Nicola Jane has a new MC series, Perished Riders with the first book being Maverick. Maverick steps up to take over of Pres of the MC when his Dad is killed. Heading home is not something Maverick is looking forward to. His Dad left the MC in shambles with a load of debt and no real income. Maverick is questioning his choice when he is called to rescue a battered wife. This is the very same woman who he felt drawn to when he saw her earlier. Rylee hates her husband and wants to escape with her daughter. Her husband has her living in fear with his physical and mental abuse. She can't turn him in because he is a cop.
There are many things in this story that could be a trigger: rape, murder, psychological abuse and abuse of a child to name a few. Maverick wants to update the MC, protect the community and provide shelter to domestic abuse victims. He has such a big heart but he didn't always. If someone threatens what he protects, he can still "take care" of the problem.
Maverick and Rylee are perfect for each other. He gives her space to make a choice but struggles when he thinks she hasn't made the beat decision. I love the way the brothers all become "Uncles" to Ella and she has Maverick wrapped around her finger. I love all the guys and am looking forward to getting to know them. Bring on the next book, Scar!
interesting Maverick left home some time ago, being tired of the life as the son of MC President who, now deceased is the reason for his return and to take over the club as President. The club is run into the ground with debase violent and abusive behaviours. He is determined to turn it around and make it good again. Rylee, used to being abused from a child, is in an abusive relationship, trying to protect her daughter. Maverick is approached by her neighbour for help. They make a good couple and love blossoms...drama and romance. An entertaining read. This is a British author and the MCsetting is in Britain. There is a possible intended error in the discussions about filing for divorce and inference that Rylee's address had/needed to be in the papers and would be given to Grant, ... perhaps the author ignored it because of enhancing the storyline. an application to the court to omit her address from the documents, before serving them is an option. There is no mention of an application to do so and it being refused. This is well written and detailed, especially sensitive to domestic violence and the consequences on the victim. The book is about an MC and its characters, good and bad and whilst there are references to the lifestyle, it does go describe it in the extreme which may by in those written by others. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was possibly the most ineptly run MC ever. They had one business (a garage!) and they couldn’t even run that profitably. Had to ask a mobster to take it over. Yet, they were going to convert a large section of their clubhouse to make a shelter for battered wives? Nice idea, but these guys couldn’t possibly sustain that.
No one seems to respect or defer to Maverick. He’s constantly asking for people to behave like they’re just naughty school boys. Grim, his VP, was probably the most disrespectful- never calling him President, fucking that club whore in H’s office after repeatedly being told not to, etc.
Yeah, Maverick wasn’t much of a hero, that’s for sure.
I can’t believe that the author is English!!! The language wasn’t right all the way through the book, lawyer instead of solicitor and barrister, and cops instead of police. Then there’s the guns. Because they’re totally illegal in the UK, people don’t walk around with them all the time, as it’s an instant prison term. I’m not saying that people don’t use them, or have them, but they won’t carry them as they ride around. Crow and Maverick have the same mother, so they are HALF BROTHERS, NOT STEPBROTHERS!! It’s all the way through the book and they all say it.
Maverick and his Mc save Rylee and her daughter from her policeman husband, who beats her regularly. She’s got cracked ribs and sits on his motorbike. 😂😂 Yeah of course she did… Maverick supposedly feels a connection to Rylee, and he thinks she’s beautiful. So why did he and Grim (His VP) bring a couple of women home to share? I was getting serious whiplash from him. One minute he’s falling in love with her, the next he’s cold with her and avoids her. It’s so bizarre. Rylee isn’t much better. One minute she’s falling for Maverick the next she’s laying on Crow’s bed talking to him! Even though she knows Crow has feelings for her and Maverick told her that Crow had raped a young girl, she still sits talking to him.
I really did enjoy parts of this book, but there were too many things wrong with it. I won’t be reading the next one, sadly.
I loved Nicola Jane's other MC series, The King Reapers MC, so I was really excited to start this series. I highly recommend reading the prequel to this series, Riding Home, before starting this book series. It is a short story with a lot of information that will help understand this book. Of course, you can read this book without reading the prequel if you have to.
Oh, and trigger warning about domestic physical and emotional abuse. Do not proceed if that is not something you want to read about.
Maverick came back home to take care of the MC he grew up with. He realizes right away that changes need to be made. Unfortunately the past seems to always be haunting him as he struggles with why he is even there.
Rylee is married and has a daughter with the new cop in town. To the outside world, they look like the perfect happy family. But behind close doors, that isn't the case.
Rylee's neighbor recognizes the signs of abuse and asks the MC for assistance to get Rylee and her daughter out of their situation.
Sounds simple? Not really. Rylee's husband causes issues, the Perished Rider's past comes back to haunt them and this is just the start of an adventurous series. Can't wait to see where this series leads us to.

Nicola has started this series off with a bang. Maverick is back home after his father is killed. He and his best friend Grim left a few years ago. He didn’t like how his father ran things and how he treated him and his mom. When he comes back, he finds out the club is in a very bad way and Eagle never said a thing. They need money and allies fast. Rylee is in her own personal hell and has been since she met Grant and it’s gotten worse since they married. Her neighbor never sees her, but she has heard her and knows she is in a bad way. Her husband is a cop and is an abusive a******. I loved this story and it pulled at me. The very first time Mav meets Rylee he is instantly attracted to her, but will stay away from her since she is married. When he hears that she is in trouble, he plans to help her and keep her safe. This is such a great story of overcoming abuse and finding the strength in yourself. I loved how Rylee grew in this book and also how Maverick also came into his new role as the new Prez. There is action, lust, secrets, hurt and some twists that will shock you I loved this book and cannot wait for Scar’s book. This is going to be another great series by Nicola, it’s already started fabulously.
Maverick by Nicola Jane is an angsty mc romance that deals with some serious issues such as DV and recovering from a manipulative a-hole.
Rylee is married to a jerk, a real piece of work, and she needs to get out but she has no support network because he's cut her off. Worried about her daughter's safety, she eventually allows her neighbour to get her help with the local MC.
Enter the president, Maverick, and boy do we get hot alpha vibes right away. He's trying to turn their club legitimate to help women like Rylee but he's facing a lot, members who don't agree, secrets and lies in a club he's desperate to clean up, and add onto that his attraction to the little bird. He can't push her, he knows what she's been through, but damn when they finally do make the move...it's hot.
Members are against them, and Rylee's jerk ex is trying to make trouble for the club, add onto that lots of miscommunication and not knowing about the mC world and we have some angsty couple issues on the horizon.
Please be wary of the content warnings. There can be some distressing scenes in this one.
**Trigger warnings talks about rape, abuse and violence**
So this is a great start to a new series. So here we have Maverick who comes back to the club to basically bring it back from the damage his father did. He has a lot of ideas and it will take time to get it where he wants the club. Now this club has secrets and dang I did not see it coming. So this catches Maverick by surprise. Another surprise is Rylee. This woman has been through some stuff. I am surprised that she has not lost her mind. We don't find out the full extent til the end. When Maverick finds out that she is the one that needs help, he doesn't ask questions and shows up to help her. We get to see their relationship unfold but at the same time he is trying to keep her safe. Since Maverick is the Pres he has a lot to deal with. We see him become possessive with Rylee and it kind of freaks her out. However, she does tell him how that makes her feel seeing as she just left a toxic relationship. A lot of things unfold in this book so there is no telling what will happen next. Overall it has a great storyline with a few steamy sessions. So what will happen next given with that epic ending.
Maverick is the first book in the new series ‘Perished Riders MC’ and tells the story of Maverick, now President of the club on the death of his estranged father, and Rylee who has been rescued by the Perished Riders, along with her 3 year old daughter, Ella, from an abusive husband who is also a cop. Maverick had originally left the club because he didn’t like the way his cruel and evil father was running it and he encounters big problems from other members when he starts trying to clean up the club at the same time as offering protection to Rylee and her daughter when her abusive husband tries to take them back. All I can say is WOW! what a great start to a new series. The book is well written with a gripping and intense storyline with some pretty steamy encounters thrown in that makes it a very easy to read page turner. Overall, a thrilling read that captivated me from the first page to the last. Can’t wait to read further installments from this talented author. Highly recommended 5 Star read!
