George RR Martin once said that there is nothing better to write about than human heart conflict itself and this one represents that very well with some new players added this game for power gets murkier while players are all ready to fight tooth and nail to reach the pinaccle of absolute and unattainable power one has to ask how much is too much? where does one draw the line ? is it really okay to sacrifise everything for greater good? is it even worth it? and what if people we trust are not actually what they seem to be? join lilah and harry as they naviagte through these question desperately trying to find a baalnce between what heart desires and what the need of hour is?
watch out for these new players on the block alex victor brad

mysterious alter-history

Leaves you wondering how much is fiction and how much skulduggery actually goes on in the oil industry. Having lived through most of the events forming the background of the tale, I also puzzle over who is who and what is being said about our current situation. Rousing adventure tho’!

'The Manhattan Swindle' is a continuance from the book The Maltese Attack where the three families were on a constant strive for power struggle. In this book the author brings back Lilah and Harry, but in a different set up. Mostly the story felt like new wine in old bottle. And I have to say that the new environment too was interesting in its own way. Both Lilah and Harry are busy in their own lives. The events of last year indeed took both the lives quite apart from each other. The kidnapping came like a huge wave and washed away all the happy memories imprinted in their lives. Now it has been an year to the incident. Things have changed a lot. Jason Sanders is seizing more and more powers in the world of oil industry and now aiming towards the White House. But certainly not without any strong nemesis. Now, the question arises 'Who will win this power struggle?'.
.
I have read two works by Jay Perin and his writing style is definitely interesting. Those who have read the first book should without any doubt read the second book too. The mind games that are been played by all the players (politicians/ business tycoons) are really something to read and feel amused by it. The main issue that this book takes a note on is the corruption involved in the oil industry. From far it might seem like a very luxurious business ,but as one gets more involved inside it they notices the dirty ploys that goes on in this field for survival.
.
The plot in this book have twists and turns ,and also sudden unexpected events that are bound to make the reader hook to the storyline. Although this book is bit slow paced and long ,but it certainly does justifies the gravity of the serious political tricks and plans that goes in its making. The retro element present in this book makes everything seem more influential in my imagination.
.
Overall, I love this book. A must recommendation to all the people who loves to read political thrillers.

Set in the eighties amid the oil wars and the technological boom, the plot follows Senator Temple as he moves around his chess pieces with the help of the three oldest clans in the oil business. Jared Sanders is a criminal oilman whose objective is to control the White House, but standing in his way is Temple with the support of the heirs of the three clans. They are as different oil and water but together, they could defeat the enemy without a violent fight. Lilah and Harry make a comeback from book 1. Lilah is shown to play a very integral part in Temples's plan.

The first chapter shows Temple as he waits for his stepbrother. He thumbs through a copy of Arthashastra, and we come to know that Temple reveres the author, Kautilya (Chanakya). Temple thinks about how Chanakya had managed to make a pauper into a king while remarking to himself that he has many things in common with the ancient scholar. This critical detail gives the readers an acute insight into the personality of Temple. The story is loaded with political strife, the hunger for power seats and control over the liquid gold. Three dynasties face a ruthless adversary together, putting aside their differences. The author has brilliantly written this premise. The recurring characters have developed beyond their years following the events of Book 1. It was interesting to see how Lilah and Harry navigate through the dynamics that Temple has planned for them. The other characters made the story much more affluent. I loved the story. It is a combination of exceptionally well written political manoeuvres that kept the story thrilling to the end. I would recommend it to readers who likes reading about political agendas, combined with the thrill of mind games. My rating is 4.5/5

Great sequel to a wonderful beginning.

Synopsis:

Manhattan Swindle picks up where the Maltese Attack is left off

The main characters Harry and Lilah continue their journey to take down Sanders who had caused unimaginable pain not only to them but also towards anyone who refused to stand with him.

They both make countless sacrifices towards their goal. But will their sacrifices be sufficient?

Pros

I liked mostly the amount of research the author put into this book. The book is heavily inspired by Mahabharata. It's not an easy thing to take an age old epic and translate it into modern times. And the author did a wonderful job.

Tremendous amount of effort is put into understanding not only Mahabharata but 20th century America and the rest of the world.

Secondly I liked the character journey of the main characters Harry and Lilah. In addition to these two several new characters were introduced in the book. All of them have interesting journeys. I don't want to spoil anything but I am a huge fan of bromance between Alex and Harry.

What I like about these characters is, They are quite powerful yet completely powerless against the cruel plays of life. Their constant battles with their inherent morality and what it means to sacrifice not only a chance at happiness but also these very convictions in their quest for greater good.

Cons

The plot is very good and there are several interesting characters however I still felt the book covered a vast amount of the story. But such is the nature of Mahabharata and hence its adaptation.

The Manhattan Swindle the book 2 of the 100 years of war series brings back Lillah and Henry though in separate arrangements.
.
Harry went off to training for SEAL and Liliah enrolled in MIT to complete her studies.
.
To start afresh but Harry and Liliah cross paths once again. This time there are new people, new relationships in their lives but they have got together again post 1974 this time in Argentina where the past comes crawling back and the fight of the Temple for Oil continues.

The question remains would things change for Harry and Liliah? Would they be able to fight together?

Oh such action packed narrative. The author has kept the chessboard on the cover for a very specific reason and you would be playing the game till the last page.
.
You see chemistry between Harry and Liliah but you also see new characters which change the game completely and I don't want to give spoilers but don't stop reading because the writing style completely pulls you in
.
It's the late 70s and early 80s so be prepared to meet our very good friend the media as the Tabloids had just started to make a mark and you will enjoy that aspect of that era too.
.
I hope you enjoy the twist at the end as much as I did because the action and the thrill in the narrative comes at the lives of many innocent lives.
.
The way the story has been woven is why Jay Perin leave you wanting for more.
.
DON'T FORGET THE POLITICS OF THE ERA. DON'T FORGET TO CONNECT THE DOTS.

- The Manhattan Swindle is the second book in the series 'One Hundred Years of War'. It is set in the historical era of the 70s. It continues with the story of a powerful man named Jared Sanders. He is a criminal and has his hands deep in the oil business. He has been conspiring to gain control over the White House and is now very close to achieving it. However, his old nemesis, Senator Temple, is hell-bent on seeing him fail and lose all the fortune and the money he has gained so far.

- The senator has joined hands with three others who are equally invested in this mission. Each has a past and baggage of its own. They plan on bringing Jared down without spilling blood. The pieces fall into their places, and thus begin a mind-spinning game of chess, which will ultimately decide who wins - Jared or the senator and the allies.

- This is a thriller read with strong characters that take us on a journey of vengeance, rivalries, and heartbreak. The world-building is captivating and the narration is simply gripping. Each character has a quality and individuality to it which is very fascinating.

- The plot has been explored really well. The cover page is stunning and compliments the story. Highly recommended for those looking for an enthralling read.

Book: The Manhattan Swindle
Author: Jay perin
Review: The book is second in the series of seven books , this book is a sequel to Maltese attack.
This book belongs to crime thriller fiction genre.
The chaotic ’eighties... political assassinations, drug wars, the computer revolution... Jared Sanders, the criminal oilman, is inches away from controlling the White House. His old nemesis, Senator Temple, stands in the way. This time, the senator is not alone.
The heirs of the three oldest clans in the oil business join Temple. An aspiring lawyer with her eye on a supreme court seat, a Navy SEAL with a target on his back, and a dashing blueblood from New York City. Together, they could defeat the enemy without firing a single shot.

It kind of feels like mind games with an interesting storyline and plot . This book cannot be read as a stand-alone as there are too many characters and you may not feel acquainted with them if you have read the first part.
The books pacing is a little slow and text seems stretched at some places.
Characterisation is good and overall growth f characters is amazing. The story ended with suspense and I have too many questions
I can’t wait for the next part.

The Manhattan Swindle by Jay Perin is the sequel to his first book 'The Maltese Attack'. The first book took the readers into the dirty politics of the oil industry which had engulfed Lilah and Harry and turned their peaceful lives upside down. With Thanksgiving coming around the corner Lilah and Harry both are having flashbacks of their abduction a year ago. Lilah is currently studying and Harry is recruited in SEAL's training program with Senator Temple having his own plan's to use Harry for his mission to destroy Sanders
.

Jay Perin second book is as intriguing as his first one. Though it's quite lengthy and stretched at some parts but the book did not disappoint at all. It's good to see him to bring out political thriller which engages his readers at every page. If you're into political thrillers Jay Perin's series are the perfect books to read.

"The Manhattan Swindle" by Jay Perin is a political thriller, the second book of the one hundred year war series. The book revolves around Harry and Lalita, and they both have come together once again in the fight for the temple of Oil.  This book is the perfect blend of history and politics with a topping of legal terms. Although the book is quite lengthy, it's worth reading and you wouldn't be bored while reading this. Language and narration style is easy and I would suggest this book to those who love to read political thrillers or historical ones. I wouldn't suggest this book to, beginners and beginners can find it a little difficult to read due to its length, but if you want to try, you can surely try it as the story is entertaining and the language is simple. I haven't read the first book of this series, but still, I was able to connect dots in this story. The story will keep you hooked throughout the story and the twist which came at the very end made it worthy to read this long but enjoyable book. If I talk about the cover, then the cover of this book is really beautiful and it gives you a slight hint of the plot that the story has some dramas in it.

The Manhattan Swindle by Jay Perin is the second installment of the One hundred years of War Series. It is an engaging read with a seventies backdrop.
The story revolves around power. The three powerful families are trying to take control over the oil industry in the 1970s as this will be a great fortune maker. But they have one common enemy Jared Sanders who is a criminal and wants to gain a monopoly in the oil business and is about to take control over the white house. Will they be able to succeed to take him down?
The charm of this book is the characters, each character holds its own identity. The author has crafted each character with complexity with motivation, for example, Lilah is a strong protagonist who is struggling with the trauma of her painful past. How she confronts her emotional struggle alone is so motivational. The writing is amazing with great storytelling. I feel like it’s a character-driven story.
Overall, this is a fast-paced read with skillfully written characters.

A SINGLE LIE COULD WIN THE WAR
WITHOUT SHEDDING A DROP OF BLOOD.

Few Days Ago, I was reading this book, The Manhattan Swindle. The title itself is quite mysterious. It forced me to think what it is all about before I could even think of Reading it. The blurb too is attracting and promising. The book didn't disappoint me either.

Few months back I read the first part The Maltese Attack. I truly enjoyed it back then. I was excited to know the second part is put and thus got it for me in kindle.
Now it's the second part in the one Hundred Years of War series. Jay Perin's The Manhattan Swindle is the book that keeps you on the edge just like its forst installment. It's an action packed fiction. Finally we get to see some chemistry between the two beautiful characters Liliah and Harry about whom we read in the first part.
It's set in the seventies and revolves around families who are into political situation pivoted around power in the oil sector. But there's this villain as well who is their main challenge going to have monopoly and control the administration. It's a thick book but author has given good time developing the characters and the backdrop alongside the series of all the events. What challenges will arise in their lives? What more does the story hold for us?
If you have read the Maltese Attack , definitely go for this engaging political thriller book.

If you are a reader of powerplays and those engaging dramas involving the battle of politics and historial fiction with the hint of gangs or we can say groups that influential and powerful this book is for you .

While this is second book and I had not read the firsr book still this book was as enjoyable and I didn't felt like I was missing something. The best part being the way author created this illusionary or fictional world with his amazing choice of not only words but also an analysis of the correct description which made the plot even more engaging .

Although its a lengthy book but its didn't fealt stretchy lr over explained anywhere ,rather because of the writing style a constant interest was maintained throughout the book which actually is rare and any book that has a legal character / legal angle to it tops my priority list because being a law student all those things attract me .

This is a fictional plot based on suspense and thriller genre with the influence from different fields. This is the second book in the series and it has successfully maintained the pace through out the book.
The book is lengthy yet the author has penned down a nice tale including in suspense, thriller and political drama too. The second instalment of the series continued the tale with the same detailed characters and situations.
The plot keeps the reader hooked up till the end of it. There are numerous characters involved in the book yet each has been given sufficient scope to contribute to the plot. The characters and the circumstances around them is being layered neatly and all the characters shine throughout the plot. The language used is lucid. The narration of the book is kept simple and easy making it a great read for all.

🙂 Cover of the book is smartly designed with a chess themed cover that draws your eyes in first go.
🙂 Writing style of the book is quite unique which is revolved around many characters with proficiency.
🙂 Language of the book is not very simple nor very hard. It is moderately written but blend with the storyline quite effectively. This book is a vocab beauty which keeps your interest intact till the end.
🙂 All characters are nicely developed & beautifully portrayed. All those characters played a crucial role to move the storyline in a very smooth manner.
🙂 Narrative style of the book is contemporary type but set in 70s century. It is a compilation of struggle, fight, efforts & many more. But the way author put forward each n every scene in this book that gives a gripping experience & you will start engaging with the plot line with each passing pages.
🙂 Book is very slowly paced. It's near about 400+ pages lengthy bulky book which became sometimes very dull & tedious to read because of excessive stretched narration.

The author has written the book with a theme that deserves a hearty nod, owing to the utter amount of creativity it sparks. Owing to this, the book cannot possibly be summed up to a discrete genre.

It is part thriller, as it surely spikes some good dose of thrill, it is also mystery—which is the basic essence with which the plot thrives, and of course its fantasy. The fantasy in this book is not some absurd rocket historical jugglery that could earn a scowl from some rational human, it is rather very easy to believe, and makes you feel as if it could be happening in your own life too.

Apart from being a page turner and a fast-paced book, this also gifts us with a reading experience very immersive. You would perhaps never feel burdened by the quantity of action and spice happening throughout the book.

“Those who have true power share it, while those who hunger power abuse it”
--- Royalton Ambrose

The Manhattan Swindle by Jay Perin

The book follows the story of Jared Sanders, a criminal prodigy having a hunger for power and status. Whose sole motto was to gain power over the US govt. via taking control over the White House.

This is the continuation from the first book of the series i.e. “The Maltese Attack”, the story also follows Lilah and Harry where their actions, their different paths change the course of this book.

The story follows the devastating consequences and the aftermath of decisions made by senator Temple in the 70s. The story has drama, romance, thriller and full of mysteries and the story is convincing. This series can be adapted for web series as well

The book's story is written in 70s century and the cover of the book is really interesting. It is the second book of the series.

The story is full of thriller and politics twists with an engaging plot which is related to oil business and a man named Jared Sanders wanted to rule over the oil business and become powerful businessman to gain control over White house.

But there were few people who did not wanted that Jared to be at such a positionand were conspiring against him to keep him out of league. This is a story of revenge, politics, secrets, mission, business, family, conspiracies, money and fame.

The characters and the story are very well sketched. I was completely hooked till the end. Worth and recommendable read.

The Manhattan Swindle is the second part of one hundred years of war.

Read the first part Maltese Attack long ago and I wanted to know what happened to Liliah later so had to read this book too.

Definitely had a rollar coaster ride through this political thriller mystery that is packed with suspense and action.

Three families and a criminal in the oil industry trying to have their own powers.

Definitely liked the events this time alongside the characters persona development part. Such diverse ones!

Lots of conspiracies, agendas and challenges are filled with twists till the end.

Go for it to have a twisted fiction in the political thriller category.

The second book of the series, and I would heartily recommend reading the previous entry first. Lots of characters revolve around the female protagonist who is being groomed to run a major corporation. Family, political, and corporate plots abound with a multitude of of motives thrown into the mix. The book is an excellent candidate for a mini-series. I received an advanced digital copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and voluntarily provided an honest review.

This is my second book by Jay Perin. Cover design of this book gives interesting Vibes. This is book two in the series. This is another political trailer which take you up for an amazing ride through the ups and down. The story in this book revolves around Senator Temple and his alliances put together stands in the way of Jared Sanders. All three of them have their own secrets and lies which has forced them to come together as a team. How will they succeed without shedding even one drop of blood? Read the book to know more. It is a gripping read with characters which have flaws and they are written beautifully. This book is a roller coaster ride , the thrill to read more and more keeps increasing. Characters and their emotions are tied up beautifully. Each character stands out without overshadowing the other. This book as a whole is a full package. I did feel at some point story becomes a bit dull but it does not get boring. Packed with ample amount of twist and turns this book keeps reader on edge. Pace does not falter at any time. Narration is on point. Author did an amazing job with this book. Overall I really enjoyed this book. Do give it a try if you enjoy reading political thrillers. Worth reading.
