Wanted: An Earl for Hire

Rate this book
An earl and an heiress...

What’s the worst that can happen?

That’s what Miss Charlotte Pennington asks herself when she puts a notice in the paper. Her goal? To hire a lord to help her conduct an investigation into murder. And, perhaps, give her life it’s missing meaning. That’s not too much to ask; is it? Surely, there is an impoverished lord somewhere willing to help her. But, when the handsome Earl of Westmoreland answers her ad, Charlotte didn’t count him being quite so dashing or mysterious. Does he know she’s the very heiress he’s been searching for?

But, as the murder plot thickens, so does the air between them. And Charlotte must answer the question: does she catch a murderer or allow herself to be caught by an earl?

Perhaps, she should kiss him to find out...

Such a sweet and passionate love story.
Tate and Charlotte make a beautiful couple, both are great characters, different in many ways but compliment each other perfectly.

This is the first book in Tammy’s newest series, and I’m very much looking forward to reading more.
It’s full of action and amusing in parts.
I’m hoping I get to learn much more about this intriguing group of ladies in future books.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Wanted: An Earl for Hire
(Calling All Rakes #1)
Written by: Tammy Andresen

When Author Tammy Andresen begins a new series one always wonders if this will top the last one. With a title like Wanted: An Earl for Hire you are almost assured her Calling All Rakes series will do just that.

Charlotte Pennington fancies herself on the shelf at age 23. There is however something that is really keeping herself off that shelf, the fortune that her Uncle the Duke of Wiltshire had left her. Prior to this most men would describe her as headstrong, stubborn and to smart. Let’s be honest in 1837 she was not going to
win the hearts of men with those attributes. Charlotte craved one thing, to have a purpose in life. Which is why she is sure she needs to find who has been taking the lives of women who are destitute and that society wouldn’t miss what so ever.
Charlotte as we find is quite smart and in order to help her find out what is going on she decides to put in a “si quis” in the paper reading Wanted: Lord for Hire.

Tatum Tate inherited his title Earl of Westmoreland about six months ago. A title without the means to keep the Earldom running was what he got. Having worked hard before becoming the Earl, he was use to hard work, after all he was an excellent solicitor but he needed more than just knowledge of the law to keep the Earldom afloat. So when he spotted the Wanted: Lord for Hire he had to check it out. If nothing else he would be able to make some money to help with costs while looking for an heiress.

Tammy Andresen has now set up readers for a great beginning to this series. Charlotte was a woman who would only marry for love; Tate a man who needs to rebuild what his uncle and cousin had squandered and someone running about the poorer areas in London taking the lives of women gives readers a story filled with suspense, whit and twists we could not have anticipated. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. This was definitely a five star read!

Tate and Charlotte made a great duo in this romantic suspense book. Their steamy romance was even better. I liked their instant click with one another. Their interesting personalities kept me intrigued with what next Charlotte would have Tate drawn into. The plot was interesting to me.
It also brought some excitement to the story. It was the courtship of Charlotte and Tate that really had me drawn to the story. For two people not wanting the same thing they sure did find it together.I like that the book was easy to read.

London 1837

All the items I love are pulled together in this new series! Mystery, intrigue, a beautiful bluestocking and her unique friends set to solve a murder, a handsome Earl needing funds and an attraction simmering that cannot be contained!

I simply delight in everything this author pens, even before opening to page one! Wonderful characters, interesting storylines and a couple that always have me sighing as I turn the last page!
What more could anyone want? Oh yes, the next book! Excellent!

Wonderful story of Miss Charlotte Pennington and Tatum Tate, Earl of Westmoreland. Charlotte has given up on the idea of marriage. Wouldn't you if you knew that all your suitors wanted was your money? Tate has inherited a broke Earldom, and knows he needs to marry for money, but all he really wants is a love match. Loved these characters, and the story although not new (marry for money), with the twist of a murder investigation, was unique and wonderful. Highly recommend.

The first book in the Calling all Rakes series. Miss Charlotte Pennington hires impoverished lord Tatum Tate the Earl of Westmoreland to help her conduct an investigation into murder as being a woman she can not do it herself. Their story has suspense, drama, danger, a villain, and romance. The story is well written with a very good storyline that kept me turning pages. The story was well worth reading. I voluntarily read and am reviewing an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This was a great beginning to a new series that is going to be so much fun - I already am in love with characters coming in the next book.

Tatum Tate, now 6th Earl of Westmoreland, was never meant to be an earl but the death of his cousin has thrown him into a bankrupt earldom. He is a solicitor by trade & know how to invest to make money but first you must have money - he needs to find an heiress & marry. Then he answers an ad for a lord wanted that was placed in the newspaper - we'll see what becomes of it.

Miss Charlotte Pennington is a beautiful spinster & that is just fine with her. She is also the second richest female in England after she received a large inheritance from her uncle, the duke of Wiltshire. She realizes her suitors are after her money & does not trust any of them. She is also finding an on-going interest in being an amateur sleuth regarding murders of women on the means streets of London - problem is that no one (police, witnesses etc.) will talk to a woman; so, she put an ad in the newspaper to hire a lord that will be able to talk & get answers from police, etc.

Tate answers the ad - an instant attraction happens between them but neither one act upon it, but it doesn't take long for a friendship to blossom & a romance to bloom. Their adventures in solving the murders, the dangers in trying to do so & getting to their HEA is so entertaining! I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.

I'm always excited when Ms. Andresen begins a new series as she usually manages to bring adventure and romance together into an intriguing series. Miss Charlotte Pennington is known for being a bluestocking, forthright, and overly intelligent, qualities not generally sought after by gentlemen of the ton. However, once the news of her incredible inheritance leaks out, her popularity soars, but for all the wrong reasons. Thus, when Charlotte's concern ratchets up a few more notches at the news of another murder, she realizes that if she is to have any hope at solving the mystery, she needs a man with influence. Placing an advertisement in the paper brings the Earl of Westmoreland to her door, much to her mother's relief. As Tate and Charlotte begin their investigation, it quickly becomes clear that they complement one another, until Tate comes to the conclusion that he needs more from her than the quick fix to his finances. The novel comes to an exciting conclusion, but not without some disruption to the budding romance. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Right from the start An Earl For Hire takes off in this rollercoaster ride full of twist and turns that will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat. As someone is murdering women in London Charlotte is determined to find out who is doing it. One problem...the inspector Scully won't answer her questions, just because she's a female! To solve the problem ' place an add "Wanted: Lord for hire." Tammy Andersen has outdone herself with this novel, she has given readers a book that is well-written, characters that come to life as you find yourself drawn into their story, the scenes are so strikingly detailed it paints an incredible backdrop that makes you feel like you are one with the story! What a wonderful start to a new series, Calling all Rakes.

There’s been a series of murders in London & Miss Charlotte Pennington & her four friends are trying to solve the crimes but because they are women they are having difficulty so Charlotte places an ad in the newspaper wanting a Lord for hire. He can help her conduct an investigation into murder. Tatum Tate formerly a solicitor is now the 6th Earl of Westmoreland but the estate is almost bankrupt so he needs all the funds he can get plus find a heiress to marry. When the handsome Earl of Westmoreland answers her ad, Charlotte didn’t count him being quite so dashing or mysterious.
This is the start of a new series & once again it's a riveting read, which I read in a sitting. The characters are very well portrayed & have lots of depth, the pace flows effortlessly & the chemistry between Tate & Charlotte sizzles. There are misunderstandings & stretching of the truth but as their friendship grows & changes doubts need to be addressed & murders solved, all of which added to my enjoyment. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series

A Good Series Starter!
I really liked the Earl of Westmoreland, Tate. I found him to be such an endearing character and I loved the way he behaved.
Charlotte is the type of young lady who loves to solve mysteries and she has a rather suspicious mind, one at might just land her into trouble.
This series starter was easy to read, interesting and I did enjoy it.

WANTED: An Earl For Hire is a phenomenal historical romance by Tammy Andresen. Ms. Andresen has hit a grand slam with this story and spectacular cast of characters. Charlotte and her group are wallflowers and spinsters trying to solve the murders of lower-class women. Tate, a solicitor and businessman turned Earl of Westmoreland after his cousin's death knows the only way to get the estates out of trouble is to marry the woman with the largest dowry. In the meantime, Charlotte hires him to help solve the murders. Tate and Charlotte's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book and look forward to my next book by Tammy Andresen. WANTED: An Earl For Hire is book 1 of the Calling All Rakes Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Great start to a new series. I'm always interested when I get a new story from this author and the idea of a peer answering a paper advertisement was too intriguing to pass up. Tate is new to inheriting his title, indebted beyond belief, and in desperate need of funds to build the earldom back up. Charlotte is exceedingly wealthy and too intelligent and headstrong for most men to handle. She's also an amateur sleuth who needs a male presence in places females cannot go. So begins their business deal that expands into so much more than either were expecting or looking for.

LOVED IT SO MUCH PACKED INTO THIS STORY GREAT CHARACTERS.

Charlotte Pennington was classed a spinster at the age of 23 her friends along with her ,they did not mind they were intelligent and wanted to be married but only by a man who wanted the Lady and not their dowery . Charlotte was interested in the recent murders of some women, she decided to investigate but could not get information from the police, she advertised for a Lord for hire as the police would talk to a man.
Tatum Tate is the new Earl is Westmoreland he has inherited the Title but has no money that goes with it, he has to marry a wealthy lady, in the meantime he responds to the advert in the Times for Lord to hire, he meets Charlotte and agrees to help her gather information regarding the murders.
OK NOT GOING TO SPOIL THIS FOR YOU SO WILL SAY HOLD ON FOR A GREAT READ - ONLY 18 CHAPTERS BUT SO MUCH IN THEM.
CAN'T WAIT TO READ BOOK 2

Another great book by Tammy Andresen! This is book one in a new series Calling all Rakes. This book is about Miss Charlotte Pennington and Tate, the Earl of Westmoreland. Charlotte needs to "hire" an earl and Tate is in need of money. The adventure begins! They work together on solving murders and realizing what their purpose is. This is a great quick read. I loved it! I read it all in one sitting. Happy, little love story with some heat, with a mystery thrown in.

Charlotte Pennington is a lovely bluestocking with a sharp mind and an insatiable curiosity. Her uncle, a duke, left her a fortune at his death that made her the second richest woman in England. None of that gets her into the places she needs to go to get information about a spate of murders she would like to investigate. Solution? An ad in the paper seeking to hire a lord to help her, someone to go where she cannot. Tate Tatum has just become the Earl of Westmoreland, the impoverished Earl of Westmoreland. He answers Charlotte’s ad.
He decides that this money will tide him over until he finds a bride, maybe the second richest woman in England. Little does he know.

This is a non-stop romantic romp. Charlotte and Tate are great. She keeps him flabbergasted and on his toes. He tries to keep her safe. Their attraction is quick and is quite strong. The story has a bit of everything, mystery, murder, suspense, danger, and romance. The villain is a surprise. A little doubt, quickly handled, and an awesome HEA. I enjoyed Tate and Charlotte’s story and look forward to the next one in what promises to be an entertaining series.

Loved it! Very exciting, suspenseful, nerve racking, dangerous all with a touch of romance. Charlotte and her four friends have been reading and following the news of women that are being murdered. Women are barred from investigations but men are not. Charlotte decides to hire a lord to enable her to infiltrate the investigation of the murders that she feels are connected. Tate an impoverished Earl needs cash a lot of cash. He decides to marry an heiress. But in the meantime, he answers the ad for a Lord for Hire. He meets Charlotte and both their worlds will never be the same. Danger meets them at every opportunity. Because Tate is new to the title and was a working man before, he had no idea of who was who among the ton. So, he worked with Charlotte on her investigations and also tried to look for a bride. Little did Tate and Charlotte know that everything they wanted and needed for their happiness was always right in front of them. An excellent read. I did not want to put it down. I highly recommend it.

An awesome read!

I enjoyed reading about Tate and Charlotte, how she wanted to hire a lord. He needed money so he decided to find out why. They made a great team, they were investigating murders of women of limited means, turns out one of the New Police was responsible for the murders and Charlotte figured it out. They were impressed with her that asked for more help trying to figure out who did it. A very HEA. I highly recommend this book! 👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤

Lady Charlotte is so much fun. She is a spinster on a mission. Solve a murder plot where no one will take her serious. If she just had an Earl who could run interference. An unexpected Earl with a mountain of debt. Searching for a heiress is the last thing he wants to do but he has no choice. An exciting and entertaining start to this new series.

An impoverished earl and an heiress with no desire for a husband…

What’s the worst that can happen?

That’s what Miss Charlotte Pennington asks herself when she puts a notice in the paper. Her goal? To hire a lord to help her conduct an investigation into murder. And perhaps give her life it’s missing meaning. That’s not too much to ask is it? Surely there is an impoverished lord somewhere willing to help her. But when the handsome Earl of Westmoreland answers her ad, Charlotte didn’t count him being quite so dashing or mysterious. Does he know she’s the very heiress he’s been searching for?

But as the murder plot thickens so does the air between them. And Charlotte must answer the question…does she catch a murderer or allow herself to be caught by an earl?

Perhaps she should kiss him to find out…

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

Will her own prejudices come between what could be …

How I love a new series, it offers always a new set of characters and different adventures.
Plus here, we have as I do love them more and more a beta hero instead of the all caveman/me-Tarzan-you-Jane usual fellow.

Tate was content with his life prior to his accession to his little, he would have much avoided it as it came more as a poisonous gift than anything else, first he lost his friend and cousin, then he is now destitute with debtor prison as only future if he does not find a treasure or a heiress to wipe what is now his debts.
Charlotte should have found a husband long ago if she had not been the opinionated straightforward woman she is, worse now with a fortune, she can’t shake the idea that any potential suitor is only interested in her for her wealth.
So as idleness is not in her genes, so solving a murder seems like good as any other hobby, but she is female, so not allowed much freedom to investigate. It is a man job, thus her need for one.

I loved the premise of this book, Tate is such a sweetheart, Charlotte has her doubts, but together they are good, their chemistry of the charts, yet is she willing to risk her future and trust Tate enough to see past her own biases.
The investigation was quite slight and easily resolved, I would have liked it to be a bit more complex.
4 stars

On a special note, I much preferred the initial cover, it was much more fun than this darker one, even if the background plot is no light business.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen lovemaking scenes

This is a great opening book in a new series by Tammy Andresen. It introduces many of the characters that will be featured in upcoming books and adds in a great mixture of romance, mystery and suspense. It also involves one of my favourite tropes; the wallflower. Charlotte is a wallflower because she is very direct and is not willing to hide her intelligence from the men of the ton. She needs something to keep her occupied because it appears that a husband and family may not be in future but instead of falling back on “lady-like” pursuits she has decided to investigate a series of murders in London of lower class women. When she is stymied by the authorities because she is a woman, she takes matters into her own hands and places an ad for “A Lord” to help with her inquiries. What follows is a fun and suspenseful romp of a tale with plenty of romance. The banter and misunderstandings that ensued were engaging. I laughed and I cried along with Charlotte and Tate and so appreciated how the author can weave a great story in a relatively short format. I loved this novella and can’t wait to find out what happens with Charlotte’s cousin Mona. All in all, this is great start to a new series.

Wanted: An Earl For Hire is book one in a new series. It has wonderful characters, intrigue, mystery, truth stretching, misunderstanding, great friends, and love. Plus a whole lot more. Charlotte Pennington is an heiress who is not looking for marriage. She and her four friends are trying to solve who murdered four women in London. The only problem is, inspector Scully won’t answer any of their questions or listen to any of their ideas because they’re “women”. This prompts them to place an ad in the newspaper to hire a man who can get the answers for them. Enter Tatum Tate. A solicitor who has become the new Earl of Westmorland. He’s inherited an estate that is almost bankrupt and is in need of money quickly. He thinks he can do this job and look for an heiress at the same time. Hence he decides to answer the ad not realizing a beautiful women placed the ad. Tammy always rights wonderful stories with characters that come to life. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.

Quaint and charming with intrigue
Charlotte is a young women who feels abused by the men of the ton. She’s intelligent and outspoken and the men who have courted her don’t want that, until she becomes the 2nd richest women in England. So she has made up her mind that she will not marry and that she will solve a murder case of a serial murderer. As a women she doesn’t get respect so she decides to hire a lord to be her assistant and interact with people she can not. Meet Tate the son of a second son and most recent Earl of Westmorland an improvised Earldom he inherited from a wastrel cousin. Charlotte hires him to help her. Unknown to him Charlotte is the heiress he’s been told to look for. The romance is sweet with all the expected anxiety from their backgrounds. The big bad guy is predictable, but who cares! The two characters are cute and charming together. This is a quick read for a happy ending. Need a cute lift read this. The dialogue is worth the read.

A lovely Regency romance about Tate, a former solicitor and now a newly appointed earl who has inherited a title and a mountain of debts. He answers an advert placed in the newspaper and meets Miss Charlotte Pennington. She requires his assistance with the investigation of several murders for a fee. The longer they interact with each other, the deeper their relationship becomes. However, there are things about Charlotte that Tate does not know about. And he has to marry an heiress to restore his estate. The two main characters were charming and very likeable and the book had a good storyline. This book is the start of a series but is standalone story and the next book continues with Charlotte's cousin, Mona.

TERRIFIC READ AND MYSTERY!!! Wanted: An Earl for Hire by Tammy Andresen is the first in her new series Calling all Rakes and what a great way to start a new series. I found this book easy to read, original and lovable characters. Tammy never disappoints. This regency romance / mystery was a true joy to read. This story has a heiress, an earl needing to marry rich, not knowing anyone in the ton, hiring a lord to help solve several murders, finding clues, not thinking you are good enough, determination, good friends, getting wounded and finding love. I am highly recommending you read this book.
