San Diego Marines #4

Believing in You

Rate this book
Dating online should come with a warning.

This is my last deployment before I get out and become a civilian contractor in Texas. I’m already there in my mind. That’s why I changed the hometown on my online dating profile. Fresh start in a new city. I liked how it sounded.

When cute kindergarten teacher, Ivy, slides into my inbox, we hit it off right away. We flirt like two people who have nothing to lose. I show her all the sides of me and she seems to like them. I like her too. And I can’t wait to return stateside so we can explore this connection in real life.

But.

It’s like stepping off the edge of the world when I find out my Ivy is also my best friend’s little sister. When I try to break it off, I just can’t do it. So I don’t.

And now I have a decision to make. Step things up with a woman who could be ‘the one’ and risk alienating myself from my fellow Marines, or, end it and know that while it’s the right thing to do, I’d be saying goodbye to a future that looked a lot brighter with her in it…

Believing in You is a sweet romance told from alternating POVs, set in the world of The San Diego Marines. Each book can be read as a standalone but are fun to read in order.

This is a great addition to this Military Romance series. Jake and Ivy's romance is ever so sweet. I loved them both. This is a series I would recommend reading in order.

Have you ever read a book that was SO good that you wanted all your friends to read it? I'm not talking about the... "Oh my gosh! You have to add this book to your TBR list!" I'm talking about the... "Drop whatever you're reading and read this book! I do not care if you have 20 review books that need to be read! You need to listen to me and pick it up... RIGHT NOW!" That's where I'm at right now. 😉

This is, hands down, my absolute favorite book in this series. I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved it! I may or may not have had to turn my kindle off when my lunch hour was over so I didn't sneak in reading instead of actually working. Oh the problems of a Book Dragon.

Y'all... I quickly fell in love with all things Jake and Ivy. I couldn't get enough of these two! Watching their attraction turn into friendship and then into love melted my heart. They were absolutely perfect for each other. And that sizzling chemistry that was jumping off the pages?! YOWZERS! Butterflies were doing all kinds of dive bombs in my tummy! Their first kiss and that epilogue turned me into a big ol' pile of goo... and loved every minute of it! Best. Book. Ever!

One of the things I love about series like this one is being able to see old friends and catching up with their lives, as well as see new relationships develop. I am going to be so sad when this series is over. I have one more book to read before I'm all caught up and I can't decide if I want to read it now or if I want to wait. Whatever I decide, I'm definitely going to be suffering from a major book hangover. The struggle is real y'all!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I am so glad that I discovered Ms. Matorakos. Her books have been just what I needed right now. I have loved every single one of them and I will definitely be reading them over and over again. I'm excited to see what she has in store for us next!

As for my casting... *dreamy sigh* I am in love! What do you think?!

This book was full of swoony moments. I was so here for this romance. Forbidden romance coupled with brother's best friend, add in military aspect, Texas (best state ever), and I grinned the entire time.

This was a super cute military book. I really enjoyed it and had so much fun devouring it! I loved the conversations back and forth between these two characters. They were so stinking cute! It kind of reminded me of aspects of my own courtship with my hubby!

There are some hard family dynamics that scream don't start this relationship. But these two felt such a strong connection right away that it was hard not to. I loved seeing the emotions of making the decision to continue talking. It wasn't an easy decision at all and I especially loved how they handled everything when their secret came out.

Super cute! And now I need to read more books by this author!!!

Content: Clean!

Happy Reading!!!

Loved this one!

This is my first book by this author and I completely fell in love with it. The characters were so well done, the romance was sweet/swoony/clean, and the storyline just drew me in. I loved how so much of the romance and relationship for Jake and Ivy developed long-distance. There were so many toe-curling moments that just had me sighing in delight. A great book, one I’ll be rereading again for sure!

G-rated, forbidden, brother's BFF romance

Jake is a 26-year-old Marine who has been in the military for 8 years. He was initially planning to stay in the Marines for 20 years, but he has recently been hired for a tremendous opportunity. He will leave the Marines, but continue to work for the Department of Defense at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth. Technically, it is a civilian position, but he will maintain his military benefits, especially his military pension, after working another 12 years for the DOD, meanwhile earning three times the salary he did in the Marines. On the personal side, Jake had an unhappy childhood with highly dysfunctional parents, from whom he has been estranged since he joined the Marines. For many years, he has longed to marry and create a family of his own, but none of the women he has dated have ever worked out. Three of his best friends, who are fellow Marines, urge him to get on a dating app and set the location to Fort Worth.

Ivy is a 24-year-old kindergarten teacher from Fort Worth. A year ago, her firefighter boyfriend, Cory, whom she had been dating for 11 years, since middle school, and whom she had thought was on the verge of proposing marriage, suddenly left her to move to New York City. Unfortunately, Cory was also her older brother Travis's lifelong BFF, and hurting Ivy meant that Travis considered their friendship destroyed. Ivy mourned the loss of her boyfriend for many months, but her two best friends, who are fellow elementary school teachers and her roommates, insist that 12 months is long enough for her to mourn Cory, and she should get out there and date. Unfortunately, Ivy has never formally dated in her whole life, and she's very nervous about trying to do so now. Her friends recommend she get on a dating app, eagerly setting up a profile for her, and helping her weed through the various possibilities for a match. Then comes the moment that Ivy and Jake encounter each other on the dating app. For both of them, it is like a lightning strike, and neither feels any need to look at any other options on offer. They begin to text each other on a daily basis, sharing about their lives, and after a few weeks, Ivy is surprised to learn that Jake is a Marine, and is concerned that he might possibly know Travis, who is also a Marine. As it turns out, not only does Jake know Travis, he is Jake's best friend. Ivy knows for a fact that there is no way that Travis will stand for her dating his BFF again. But she and Jake have already grown so close, neither of them wants to give up their relationship. They reluctantly agree to keep Travis in the dark about their connection, and they continue to text and video chat with each other, growing more emotionally involved with each other by the day.

The popular romance trope, that a protagonist is forbidden by their sibling to date the BFF of their sibling, is extremely hard to pull off believably. After all, if someone loves their sibling and also loves their BFF, why wouldn't they want these two terrific people to get together? The only motivations I've heard used over and over again, as a reason for a sibling to act as a main antagonist to true love are: (1) What if you two break up, and I lose my BFF? (2) I come first in my BFF's life, and I don't want my sibling squeezing me out of first place.

Both attitudes on the part of the sibling amount to some heavy duty selfishness, and when a protagonist caters to that selfishness, they can come off as having a pretty weak backbone. In this particular novel, Travis's motivation is the first one and, fortunately, Jake and Ivy don't allow his stubbornness to stand in the way of their romance. If Travis knew about them, he would have demanded they never even have anything to do with each other whatsoever. But the only way they can avoid Travis's heavy-handed interference is to keep their relationship a secret via lies of omission.

Overall, this is a pleasant, relatively low angst, G-rated romance. Both Jake and Ivy are appealing protagonists, and Jake, in particular, is an adorable "cinnamon roll" hero. Though this book is part of a series, it is a standalone novel, with no cliffhanger, and a satisfying HEA. However, if you read all of the books in this series in order, as I have, you will find that the protagonists of each book reappear in multiple, subsequent novels as important subcharacters, which simultaneously provides a fun, extended epilogue for them, as they are living out their HEA.

I love these sweet stories and how the author is building each story off the precious story characters. This one I really enjoyed just because it was so fun to see the characters struggle with have a public vs a secret interest in each other. And I love how their relationship continues to develop while they are apart. Very fun and clean read.

Good book

Now knowing who your brothers soldier friends are can be a problem. Finding a soldier on a dating app and falling in love. Finding out they are your brothers best friend. Will your love story continue or will you walk away?

This book was so delightful. I loved Jake and Ivy’s messages and getting to know each other. You could feel the chemistry between them even when they hadn’t met in person. And when they finally do meet in person the tension is palpable. Of course we have the conflict of how to tell Ivy’s brother, who happens to be Jake’s best friend, about their relationship. That becomes an issue but it’s not a huge thing that gets dragged out. It gets sorted in due time and leads to a very happy ending.

I absolutely loved this story! You get to catch up with the characters of the previous books in the series, and follow along with the bromance that Mills, Hawk, Brooks, and Murphy have as they are all on their final deployment together. Through an online dating site, Murphy meets Ivy and though it is an online long distance relationship, they instantly have amazing chemistry. You finally learn of Jake's back story and his sense of longing for a family and wanting to belong will really clutch at your heart strings. I loved following the two of them through their new relationship and found myself rooting for them every step of the way as they of course hit bumps along the road. The epilogue absolutely blew me away and I had tears rolling down my face as I was reading it. This is such a sweet, feel good story and I can't wait to read more from this author.

I don't have words

to describe how much I love this book!!! All of the previous books were also great. And catching up with them was fun. (Although, I wish we got a little more of Matt and Liv! That's some serious stuff and I feel like that story isn't over!)

Jake just about broke my heart with his past. From his family and relationships, he definitely needed someone like Ivy.

I loved that their relationship was just talking at the beginning. I think they both needed that. And it definitely changes the dynamics of the relationship. The flirting while ignoring each other was hilarious!!!!

I can understand why they didn't tell Brooks, and man can he hold a grudge!

The ending was absolutely the sweetest thing ever! It's definitely a must read!

I'm looking forward to Cat and Travis!

At last, a love story for Jake! 😍

After reading the earlier books in the series, I opened this novel with my curiosity peaked. I've wanted to know what would happen to good ol' Jake for a while, and I'm so happy to have travelled this journey!

I loved Ivy. Such a gorgeous gal, inside especially. When she mentioned her brother, Travis, alarm bells began to ring in my head. It's been a few weeks since I read book 3, and then it came to me who Travis was... and then I knew this book was going to get cray-cray.

And I loved every single moment of it! Another awesome story from the mind of Jess Mastorakis, where the books get better and better (which almost seems impossible because her books are already wonderful!).

Read this series, and thank me later. 😉

Loved it!

This book was adorable! It is the fourth book in the series, and it is my favorite so far. The day I read it was kind of a hard day, but every time I picked up the book it brought a smile to my face because I loved seeing Jake and Ivy together!

This is a brother’s best friend story, and it was so well done! I loved the premise of the story, though I seriously wanted to smack Ivy’s brother a few times because of how he was behaving. 😅 I understand why he felt the way he did, but I can also understand why Ivy and Jake had some struggles because of him. Sorry that is so vague, but I don’t want to give any spoilers! I loved reading this book and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!

Page turner

What happens when Brooks unknowingly starts his best friend, Jake, on the path to meet Brooks' own baby sister on a dating site? What happens when Ivy and Jake discover their real-life connection while starting to maybe have feelings for each other? Ivy and Brooks' relationship is just starting to heal after a friend hurt them both. How long can Jake and Ivy keep their relationship a secret, and what happens when Brooks is finally told the truth? Three people are hurting, and three relationships are on the line. I love seeing Ivy's and Jake's faith in this story, a message of hope, forgiveness, and reconciliation, and I felt like I was there with them witnessing my three friends' and the rest of our circle's struggles and triumphs.

A very romantic cute story

Jake had had a horrific childhood. He was rescued when he joined the Military where he spent 8 years with a small group of very special friends. He was the only one who never received a care package or had anything he could call his own.
Internet dating found him a girl that instantly attracted him. She was just as attracted to him!
His buddy was her brother. This presented a major problem since her last long-term boyfriend was also his friend. He had broken it off with her and disappeared out of her and her brother's life. Read it! You will enjoy it.

Second chances bring big rewards

I was hesitant to pick up another one from this author because the first one I read from her was a little spicier than i prefer. Im so glad I gave her a second chance! This was the sweetest love story ever!! I loved that their relationship was based on a deep friendship gained over time and distance. I loved the friendship and brotherhood among the men. It was all just so cute. I even got a little teary at the homecoming. Now I need to try another one. Hopefully it's as good (fingers crossed). Clean.

This was a very sweet romance about a Marine named Jake Murphy who who meets a kindergarten teacher named Ivy Brooks.

Ivy is set up on an online dating app by her friends. Jake is on the dating site when he comes up on Ivy on the site. Jake finds out that she is the sister of one of his best friends Travis that he works with. Travis doesn’t know that they are talking to each other. This was a sweet romance but I wish there had been some steamy moments in the book. It was predictable how it would end but it was a nice book.

When I see a book by Jess Mastorakos, I have to have it. My family is military, so I understand the family that being in a close knit group of people is all about. Jess has great story lines that keep the reader glued to her characters and their situations, plus she manages to keep her stories clean, which I appreciate. We get sneak peaks into the jobs that our military encounters plus there's always love and an HEA - what's better than that!!

This entire series is absolutely fabulous!! My favorite part was when mom threatened to use the big shirt to put them in until they got along. It made me tear up remembering doing that to my son and daughter, my son who is now a Marine. I can't say enough about these books. They are legit one of the best series ever. Also, I sent my son a message and told him I had the perfect way for him to propose when the time comes!

This is the first book I've read of this author. Really enjoyed his writing. I read this book as a standalone and found it as a HEA and easy reading. I loved the characters in the story. The marines are well written and you can easily imagine all of them. Ivy and her family I just adored.
The storyline is so cute. It is a little different and makes it a little suspenseful at times. The locations were fun. I'm now going to go back and read the books prior in the series

Friends to Familyx2

This is an amazing story of Jake and Ivy as they get to know and eventually fall in love with each other. I love how the author builds each character in a realistic setting and helps the reader experience the newness of a relationship through each perspective. An excellent read with cameos from previous characters in this series- an added bonus that keeps the stories going for other fantastic couples.

Begins with a dating app. Jake’s a marine on deployment. Ivy a kindergarten teacher in Fort Worth. Shall we say light reading. Meeting up in Hawaii when her brother doesn’t know she’s dating his best friend could lead to drama.

I prefer books that pick a point of view and stick with a single narrator. When it contatntly changes I find myself getting confused as to who is telling the tale.

I don’t text so the idea that a pair sitting side by side would do so seems strange and rude.

Ahh I loved this one!! Probably my favorite of the series so far! 😍 Jake and Ivy were so adorable together and I loved seeing their romance grow through fun and deep texts and video calls instead of just physical attraction and kissing. All the scenes with Ivy’s kindergarten children were so cute!! I also love all the cameos from previous MCs and how we get to see their stories continue through the rest of the series.

This is a sweet tale of a man and woman who find each other via a dating app and quickly learn they share a common denominator...a brother. This is a fantastic best friend’s sister love story. Ivy and Jake’s chemistry flies off the page, and their happily-ever-after is unexpected from the start. Highly recommend this book (and series!!)

Another sweet story involving marines and their lives in and out of the military. This story is about Ivy and a conflict she has with her overprotective brother Travis. The bonds he has formed with his marine buddies especially two of his best friends Jake and Cory his childhood friend.
A nice clean fun story.

Beautiful

Ivy was dumped after being with her BF since tweens. A year later her friends sign her up with online dating, where she meets Murph, a Marine who happens to serve with her brother. It's then a matter of dating in secret. Such a cute story. This is my first time reading the author but not the last. I appreciate that it was clean without being religious.
