She’s my best friend’s sister, which makes her off-limits. So why can’t I stay away?
I’m a master at hiding my true feelings for Aria Bristol. Well, except for that one time. That one kiss. She almost figured me out then, and I vowed to never let it happen again.
The fact that we were separated by thousands of miles helped a lot. But now that I’m back, all I can think about is recreating that kiss from high school. And that’s bad, because if I know anything, I know she deserves so much better than me.
But she’s fierce. Feisty. And she knows me better than anyone. I don’t know how much longer I can keep up this act. And the scariest part of all? I’m not sure I want to.
The Planner is the second book in a sweet, small town, military romance series. Each book is a standalone romance but they are fun to read in order!
Jess Mastorakos writes sweet military romance books that feature heroes with heart and the strong women they love. She is a proud Marine wife and mama of four. She loves her coffee in a glitter tumbler and planning with an erasable pen.

This book was just what I hoped it would be when I picked it up. I really wanted a light, easy reading, romantic distraction and I got it. This author is great at creating a cast of characters that feel like family. I'm excited for the next book!
Y’all. I. Just. Can’t. Even. Right. Now! Oh holy swooniness Batman! This! This right here is JUST what I needed! I love love! 😍
Aria and Will have known each other forever and have been in love with each other for just as long. But the fear of ruining the only family Will has, had him holding back his feelings for Aria. That is until he’s stationed back in his hometown where Aria currently resides. Watch out world!
Aria knows what she wants and is tired of waiting around for Will to open his eyes to see what’s standing right in front of him. She is definitely a force to be reckoned with and I loved that about her! She made it her mission to help Will see who he really is on the inside and that if anyone deserves a HEA, it’s him.
I couldn’t get enough of Aria and Will! These two are absolutely perfect for each other! I loved every single second of their journey and found myself sneaking in reading time whenever I could. I had the hardest time putting this book down because I just HAD to know how their story would end! 😍
I am loving this series! I cannot wait to get my hands on Layla’s and He Who Must Not Be Named’s book. Y'all. I see another rollercoaster of a ride coming my way! And I just know I’m going to love every minute of it! *dreamy sigh*
Just when I think I have found my favorite book by Ms. Mastorakos, she releases another one. I can always count on her to kidnap me and then make the world around me disappear. I’ve finally realized that, when it comes to her books, absolutely nothing is getting down until I see the words “The End”. Adulting is overrated, right? 😉
As for my casting…. *dreamy sigh* Y’all. I just can’t with these two! I love them! What do you think?
Have you ever simultaneously loved a book and wanted to throw it across the room? This is how I felt with The Planner. So don't get me wrong. The desire to throw the book was not because it was badly written. Far from that actually. I just wanted Will so badly to let himself feel his feelings towards Aria and stop playing the "you're like a sister card" just to keep the distance between them. I know, I know. He had a rough past, so it wasn't easy for him, but still! So, I think the fact that I felt like throwing the book shows just how much Jess Mastorakos can suck you into the characters' lives with her writing.
Aria has had a crush for a very long time. On whom? Her brother's best friend. Will has also had a crush for a very long time. On whom? His best friend's sister. Oh yeah, it's been a mutual crush, but it has never gone anywhere. Will is afraid of ruining his friendship with Aria's brother Paul. He is also afraid he will turn out to be a monster, just like his father. So for years, Will has pushed Aria away and has refused to be serious with any other girl. Now that he's stationed near their hometown and he sees Aria all the time, especially since he's the best man in Paul's wedding and she's the maid of honor, those feelings become much harder to ignore. But nothing can come of these feelings for his friend's sister. Right?
By the end of the book, I was smiling so much! It was so hard to stop reading and focus on real life responsibilities. I felt like I had a harder time settling into The Proposal (the book before this one in the series) because we were in a new location with a new set of characters, and I just missed my San Diego and Kailua friends. But I definitely didn't have that problem with The Planner because I felt like I was finally getting to know the characters, so I was able to jump in like they were friends. You certainly don't need to read these books in order, but I highly encourage it because the backstories do build on one another. You won't be super lost though if you read them out of order. Per usual, this Jess Mastorakos book receives 5 stars and a huge recommendation from me!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review.
This book is so warm and fuzzy. Time and again this author is always one of my favorites. I love military romance and this book exactly shows me why.
The book features Aria and Will. Both have been friends and have grown up together. However, because Will is aria‘s brother‘s best friend things get tricky.
The Romans in this book is awesome. What I love is how healthy it is. This book shows how insecurities can drive a relationship apart and only through proper communication can the relationship work. I love how tender Will is with aria. He really cares for her and his own insecurities does get in the way but he eventually overcomes them and it is so sweet.
Aria is a awesome character. I love how she has a lot of self-respect. She does not pine and beg Will to love her. She respects the space but also does not tolerate the back-and-forth between him and his self insecurities.
The other thing I love about this book is how realistic the military life is portrayed. This book obviously does have a little bit of happily ever after obviously. But the reality is in the challenges of building the military is there. Also I love how the military is a big role in the romance because in real life it is.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. This book is awesome. I highly recommend you check it out.
Oh wow. I loved this book so much. Since reading the first book of the series, I have been waiting to find out what would happen with Will and Aria. I was a bit concerned that I might have been getting my hopes up and that this one wouldn't live up to my expectations. I was wrong. There was no disappointment here.
This book drew me in and made me stay up all night just to read it. It was amazing. I honestly didn't want it to end. However, I know I will be able to hear more about them as the series goes on. They were such an adorable couple, I couldn't help falling in love with them.
The backstory gave the characters depth. I couldn't help caring about them and wanting to see them together. Once the got past some hurdles, seeing there relationship felt so natural. It was really comfortable to watch their story unfold. I was fangirling the whole time. They really are cuties.
So far, this has been my favorite series from this author. I really like this set of characters, and I can't wait to see what will happen next.
I received an ARC of this book for free, and I am voluntarily leaving this review.
2.5 stars Not sure what I think of this book. (I didn’t realize it was the 2nd book because my kindle had mixed them up on me.) I liked Aria Her job as a wedding planner is not something I would ever want to do, but some people love that sort of thing. Will was the kind of guy I could cheer for. His fear of turning into his dad made me want to help him, but I felt like he suddenly forgot all about that when he decided to get in a relationship with Aria. It did come up later though. My favorite parts were when Will is at work and his interactions with his fellow Marines. I wasn’t very happy with, nor did I understand Paul’s anger at Will for being interested in his sister.
I liked parts of the story better than others, but I was never really drawn in and wanted to keep reading except when it had to do with Will at work. I don’t know if that was just the characters, or the focus on romance, or the style of writing, or me.
There are several euphemisms used, drinking of beer, mentions of how “hot” someone looks, and quite a few kisses. This is not a Christian book, but there is nothing beyond kisses.
Another masterpiece, two characters who needed each other but for their reasons did not act. This author can continuously create genuine characters and stories that are relatable.
Aria, the little sister, our wedding planner, is the one everybody loves. Will is our Marine, but his baggage is messing with his self-esteem. Both are attracted to the other, but being stubborn and circumstances, they keep their attraction to themselves. Now that they are in the same town, in the same wedding, will they take a chance with each other?
Most books by this author are a one-day read for me, I am hooked and have a hard time putting them down. This one is no exception. I am excited to see who is our next bride.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
What an lovely story. Every time I read a book by Jess I think she can’t get any better and then she proves me wrong. This one just hit it right on all fronts. A challenged and swoonworthy hero? Check! A strong heroine who knows herself, knows what she wants, and doesn’t take crap from anyone (especially a meddling older brother)? Check! A really great glimpse into the inside workings of a Marine base? Check! It makes me happy to continue to see glimpses of the couples from earlier books as we work through the series. And the next story is perfectly set up in the Epilogue. Can’t wait for Layla and Zac!
I have to say, I rather enjoy the little sister-big brother’s best friend trope! ;)
Will and Aria are just adorable! It was great to see more of their story after the hints from The Proposal. Miss Hattie is a gem and absolutely hilarious! One of my favourite parts of the book was Will’s plot line dealing with a younger Marine in his shop, who was subjected to hazing; Will really shines in those scenes.
The part I wasn’t crazy about was where a woman became ordained (JP presumably) to officiate wedding ceremony.
I loved everything about this book. The characters are wonderful, there’s good angst, no over-the-top drama, and a great storyline. I flew through the book and there was not even one sentence that I wanted to skim past. Aria and Will are two of my favorite characters that I’ve read about in a while, which is saying a lot because I usually read multiple books a day!
Great addition to the series. Wonderful characters and storyline! Will is a Marine stationed in SC. Aria is a wedding planner who is also his roommate’s little sister. Will doesn’t feel he’s worthy of a lifetime relationship because of his background. They are both attracted to each other but unwilling to act on it for various reasons. What can get Will past the “little sister” zone? *I received this book for free for my unbiased review.
A long-time love that had been put on the back burner on a slow simmer boils over at the right time and the right place. These two characters were persistent in their own ways and sometimes not even in the same direction. The author has a gift of storytelling that makes the reader feel as though they received a warm hug. This is a great, sweet, clean romance that doesn’t leave you with a toothache. I highly recommend.
Fortunate to be an advanced reader, I received a copy of this book via the author and BookFunnel and this is my honest review.
This was another amazing book by Jess Mastorakos. I am constantly blown away by her characters and stories, they are always awesome books! The Planner is the second book in her series, Brides of Beaufort. I was super excited for this next book and it did not disappoint, I mean can I gush even more about an author and her books. Aria was so sweet and cool. She is running a wedding planning business, that is just so cool. I loved her spunk and her kindness. She was stubborn and she worked hard. I felt for her as she helped brides with the happiest day of their life, while longing after a guy who wouldn’t date her. She had fallen for her brother’s best friend but it had never gotten anywhere. Aria had to fight for Will, he was stubborn but so was she. She didn’t let people walk over her or make decisions for her, but she still listened to counsel. I enjoyed reading about Aria, she felt real and relatable. Aria had to learn what it meant to love Will and how to show him that she loved him. Even with all of his faults, I still loved Will. He was kind and he was just trying his best. He didn't have the best childhood so he was afraid of becoming like his father. He had loved Aria since high school but he was scared of hurting her. I felt for Will, he was trying to be a better person. He was also afraid of losing the only family that had cared for him. It was fun to read about Will, reading about him growing. He fought for the underdogs, he just had to learn to cut himself some slack. Will has to take a chance and hope for the best. Will and Aria were cute together, I liked their chemistry. They had known each other for most of their life so they already knew each other well. It was sweet to read about them admitting their feelings for each other. Although Paul made some blunders, I loved getting to see more of him and Shelby. Mastroakos writes such stunning characters, I always enjoy the interactions and relationships between the characters. I finished The Planner in one day! It was just so great! I would totally recommend it. The Planner is a clean contemporary Marine romance. It has great characters, brother’s best friend, and an engaging plot. I am super excited for the next book! I just wish I didn't have to wait so long. :)
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
The Planner is the second book in the Brides of Beaufort series by Jess Mastorakos. Will Paxton is Paul Bristol’s best friend and his family has been Will’s family since childhood. His sister, Aria, is off limits. Not just because she is Paul’s little sister; but because she deserves better than someone like him. However, that didn’t stop him from falling in love with her. Will pushed his feelings aside and had become a master at hiding them from everyone. She’s fierce, feisty and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. It is getting harder and harder to hide. Now that he is stationed back home and they are spending more and more time together, it is getting harder and harder to hide his feelings. One desperate kiss brings those buried feelings up and he doesn't even want to hide anymore. What does Aria feel? If he pursues a relationship, will he lose their friendship and the only family he has? The Brides of Beaufort series is so good and The Planner is a story of found family, love and finding purpose and worthiness in love. I loved Will’s character. Will comes from a broken family and has found love and acceptance with the Bristols, his childhood neighbors. He and Paul joined the Marines together and he has become a worthy leader of those in lower rank. He looks out for those who need help. I understand his concerns about expressing his feelings and losing the only family he has. I also loved Aria’s character especially after Will expresses his feelings and she expresses hers. She is the voice of reason and encouragement for Will. They worked so well together that they were surprised that the people around them were thinking they belonged together. Overall, I enjoyed this story so much and I am looking forward to continuing the series. If you enjoy friends to lovers, military romance, I highly recommend The Planner.
The Planner is available in paperback, eBook and audiobook
THE PLANNER is a standalone read with a happy ending. There are no sexy scenes or colorful language in this read and any age can read and enjoy. There is something for everyone. The Brides of Beaufort is a new fun series for this author. Will is a Marine stationed in Beaufort. He lives close by with his best friend in an apartment in their hometown. As a child Will lived with an abusive father and a mother that did nothing to protect herself or her child. The dad was a big time lawyer making a lot of money that is until he got the wrong client and then he wound up in prison. The mother stayed in town but she didn't do much for her son, grown now. Will spent his childhood with his neighbors. They had two children and Will was always welcome in their home. They had no idea of the abuse going on next door. Will stayed with them as much as possible and he became their third child. They looked on him as a son and was always good to him. Aria was the little sister that followed them everywhere. She was like his sister.
Aria is now grown and she is tired of Will treating her like a little sister when the feelings she has for him are not those of a sister. This is a fun, entertaining read and I definitely recommend it. Aria runs her own bridal service and she is anxious to be a bride herself but things don't look good to getting the man of her dreams. Cute read and a sweet story.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 2/12/2022
Will had been Paul's best friend forever. Will had also had a thing for Paul's younger sister, Aria, forever. The two couldn't coexist. Will had been raised in an abusive home and he was sure he had some of that demon DNA running in his veins that made him someone who should never marry. He never wanted to treat his family like he had been treated. That didn't stop him from aching for Aria, though. She was light to his dark world but he could never let her know that.
Aria had loved Will for years. She had even tried to convince him with a kiss that she could be his forever. When he had rejected her, she stepped away to lick her wounds. Now, he was back in town for three years as a Marine. Would a possible forever love be worth the risk to her heart one more time or should she just stay away from him as much as possible?
I loved Will and I felt for his wounded little boy heart. He was kind and good and super hot! I loved that he was protective without being totally alpha. This story was sweet and clean and swoon-worthy with a happy ending.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
First off, if you've read the Proposal, you'll love this book because you get a front row seat to Paul and Shelby's wedding and the events leading up to it! If you have no clue who I'm talking about and didn't read the Proposal first, no worries. Jess writes in a way that no matter where you start in a series, you won't feel left behind.
Now for the characters in this book, Will and Aria. Will's tragic past will have you rooting for him from page 1. Seeing someone who has been through so much finally getting a happily ever after makes my heart so happy. Will is hesitant and thinking he doesn't deserve Aria, but she is having none of it. She sticks up for herself and in Will's words is "a force". I absolutely love how she takes matters into her own hands and goes after absolutely everything she wants.
This book will make you laugh until you cry, swoon like there is no tomorrow, and will leave you wistful for days after completion. Highly recommend.
I absolutely love Will and Aria! I loved meeting them in The Proposal, but getting to read their story was absolutely perfect! This best friend's little sister story has moved up my favorites list of Jess's books!
Even more than their romance, I loved Will & Aria's friendship! Their dynamic and the way they teased each other made them come to life as characters and sucked me in, hook, line and sinker, to their romance. Even when they were awkwardly avoiding each other in the beginning it was not hard to see that these two are meant to be.
I also love the reoccurrence in characters! Ms. Hattie (town florist and self proclaimed matchmaker) is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters in this series! It's also nice to see Paul & Shelby, along with other characters that will be present in future novels in this series! That being said, I cannot wait for Zac and Layla's story next! I just know it's going to be another great one!
Jess Mastorakos always hits the nail on the head with her sweet HEA romances. The thing that keeps me coming back to this author is her knack for writing stories with REAL emotion. REAL-life problems and solutions that involve working through difficult times. Every book she writes leaves me feeling better than when I started book The Planner was no different.
Will and Aria’s story begins with an informative introduction into Will and Paul’s background. This intro sets the stage for the entire premise of book. Will and Aria grew up living next door and their families were far from similar. Aria and her brother Paul took to Will and made them part of their family. Unbeknownst to either of them or their parents-some bad things were happening at Will’s house. However this may have saved and shaped Will into the Marine he became. Book is a must!
The Planner is the second book in the Brides of Beaufort Series set in South Carolina. This story features Will Paxton as the hot Marine best friend of Will who never dates a woman longer than a week. He has loved Paul’s sister Aria since high school but best friends don’t date each other’s sister. Aria is a spunky wedding planner and finally takes matters into her own hands to force Will to take her out of the friend’s zone. This book features Paul and Shelby’s wedding whose story was told in The Proposal. I loved the back-story on Will’s childhood and his mentoring of a young Marine who he goes out of his way to help. One of the most daring parts of the story is when Will rides up to Aria on his new black motorcycle and convinces her to ride with him. You will love the storyline of this book and the characters involved
When I first check this series on Amazon, this story was the most that caught my atention. And when I have had the opportunity of reading it, I realized that my first instinct hadn´t failed me. Aria and Will where good characters in book 1, The proposal, but their story is so so beautiful, touching , funny and extremly swoony. Will is my favorite character of all of the books that I have read lately. And about the thoughts and fellings that Aria feel for Will, I have identified myself with her when you have felt so hard for a man. I love the tension between them and their story when they were younger, which have reminded me of a YA book sometimes, what I really love. Jess has done the same ( the YA vibes) in book 1 too. I think that this book is one of the best from Jess and that she really has mastered this love story. This book has become one of my favorites of all times. Can´t wait to read about Layla and Lyndi stories and the rest of the series!
The Planner by Jess Mastorakos is book two in the Brides of Beaufort series. While being part of a series, this is also a great stand alone story. This is a nice military romance series that is well written with sweet clean romance. I enjoyed reading how Aria has cared for Will since childhood but he has never felt worthy of her due to his abusive past. I appreciate how caring and respectful she is towards him and allows him the space he needs. She is also hardworking and does what is needed to make her clients have the wedding of their dreams. I respect how Will had to work through his issues before he could have a relationship with Aria and the importance he had on the her family for their part in his life.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, this is my honest review.
Will is a Marine who is in love with Aria, his best friend’s little sister and has been most of his life. He joined the Marine Corp to try to run from his feelings for her and his horrible home life. Well, Aria has the same feelings and can’t figure out why he won’t accept her advances, as obscure as they are. She ultimately lays it out for him and the fun begins when they have to tell her brother. The bromance between Will and Paul, Aria’s brother has to be fixed before Will and Aria can move forward and be happy.
This was a fun story with a lot of feelings, some great kisses, and true love in every action. I loved this story and recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet story with a HEA!
I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
Great characters I love that Aria is smart, headstrong, and quick-witted enough to keep up with the guys and not take any slack from them, while still being sensitive and empathetic.
Will is also headstrong. He demands more of himself that he does of others and thinks poorly of himself because of his childhood. Ms. Mastorakos did a good job conveying reasonable emotions and thoughts of someone raised with such trauma as Will.
I liked seeing Will and Aria get a start on their hard-earned HEA. I especially liked the reactions of her family to the announcement that they are now dating.
Another great book by Jess. I just love books about falling in love with best friend's sister. Will tries to keep his distance from Aria because he doesn't feel he deserves her due to his childhood and he doesn't want to lose his best friend. I love Aria spunk and going after what she wants. Will and aria fight to be together and try to get their family and friends support in the process. I love the emotions and the way Jess just pulls you into the story from the start. Book can be read alone but I highly recommend reading the first book first. I always get super excited waiting for the next book.
Good things are worth waiting for. And Aria has spent years waiting for her childhood friend to see her as something more than his best friend’s little sister. She has loved him her whole life! Will and Aria’s love story was a joy to read. Aria is a beautifully strong woman, a successful businesswoman, and not afraid to take the bull by the horns and finally go after what she wants. Will is our handsome Marine, a natural protector who had a rough home life and doesn’t feel worthy of Aria’s love. They make for a beautiful couple, and a charming romance. Lots of great insights into military life in this one as well. Loved it!
Will and Aria have known each other since childhood. Aria has supported him through his father’s abuse and joining the Marine Corps with her brother. She’s also loved him forever. When he’s stationed at the Marine base near their hometown, she tries to avoid him. He made his feelings that she was like his sister plain in high school. But is that really how he feels?
Will has loved Aria forever too. But, because of the abuse he suffered from his father, he never felt worthy of her. To him, she’s perfect. Will he be able to keep his feelings under wraps now that he’s back in town? Back in town for Aria’s brother’s wedding.
