She's got a bad roommate situation in the barracks and I have to clear my father's debts before it's too late.

So we strike up a deal and prepare to give Oscar-worthy performances to everyone we know. We'll get married, solve both of our issues thanks to the benefits we'll get as a dual military couple, and then when it's over we'll go our separate ways.

There's just one problem. I think I might be falling in love with my new wife, and that makes this marriage of convenience pretty inconvenient.

The Contract is the fifth book in a sweet, small town, military romance series. Each book is a standalone romance but they are fun to read in order!

This book was adorable! Chase & Zoe are super sweet together, and I cheered them on the whole way.

Marriage of convenience can be a hit or miss for me depending on how it’s handled, but Mastorakos did it well. It was clean, romantic, and swoony without being uncomfortably steamy. Plus the modern spin was intriguing.

One interesting angle to me was that Chase & Zoe were “young” MCs, only 21. I think they tie with Logan & Tess for being the youngest of Mastorakos’s MCs!

I LOVED the Greek culture aspect, but also emphasised with Zoe on wanting to break away from some traditions too. When it came to Chase and his parents, my heart broke for him over and over; I mean, this poor kid!

As always it’s lovely to see characters from the previous stories! And it was so cute (and hilarious!) to have Will, Zac, Beau, and Paul all giving Chase marital advice.

The love language scene was seriously one of my favourites…soooo sweet and a little heart breaking too. George’s advice to Chase on the golf course was a close second. All the themes and relationship lessons were spot on this entire story, which I loved!

In short, one of my favourites in this series!

Book Hangover: A condition in which attachment to a book or series that has ended causes the reader traumatic emotional distress. It usually lasts for one to two weeks, or until a new book of higher-than-average quality enters the reader's life.

Y'all. This is me right now. I'm in emotional distress. It looks like my reading slump I've been in for the last few months is going to be just a little longer. But this book is absolutely worth it!

I knew from the very beginning that Zoe and Chase were going to be favorites of mine. There's just something about these two that draws you to them. I loved that they were best friends and would do anything the could to help each other out. Little did they know that said help would end up changing their lives forever. I thoroughly enjoyed their journey and did not want it to end! And it would be remiss of my not to mention their first kiss. Holy wowzers! Now THAT was a first kiss! The chemistry between these two were off the charts! Zoe and Chase had me feeling all the feels for them. Their story couldn't have been more perfect!

As usual, I loved catching up with old friends and seeing where they are in their journey. It's one of the reasons I love series like this! I never want to say goodbye to my favorite couples. I also loved getting to know Zoe's family. They were such an amazing addition to the story. Just like Zoe and Chase, you can't help but love them! They may be loud but they love hard. And once you're in, you're in... which is just what Chase needed in his life.

I am definitely looking forward to getting my hands on Nate's book. Y'all. He seems like the ultimate grumpy Gus! I have a feeling he's going to fight hard against what Fate has in store for him and Nikki. Knowing Ms. Mastorakos' style? I am going to love every minute of it! I cannot wait to dive into their journey!

As for my casting. Y'all. I. Am. In. Love! What do you think?

Anyone following along with my reviews or my social media will know I am a huge fan of Jess Mastorakos. She is an auto-buy author of mine and is easily the author I own the most books from. When I heard that she was doing a contemporary marriage of convenience story, I was beyond stoked because that is my favorite trope. Favorite trope by perhaps my favorite author? Uh, yes please! Sign me up. And let me say, The Contract did not disappoint. It definitely ranks in the top books written by Jess, if not grabbing the top spot for itself. I cannot say enough good things about this book!

Chase and Zoe have been friends for years, but that is all they’ve been. Zoe comes from a very traditional Greek family and is expected to marry a Greek man to keep the traditions alive. But marrying this type of man would mean she’d be pressured to leave the Marines by her husband. Chase’s family is struggling with money and he’s doing everything he can to keep them afloat. When a mutual friend suggests they get married to solve both their problems, maybe somewhat jokingly, they both blow it off at first. But as they realize how it would really benefit both of them, Chase and Zoe move forward with a marriage of convenience. Is it destined to become more than that?

The Contract was just hands down amazing. I feel like I devoured this book. I both wanted to read it as fast as I could and also didn’t want it to end. I loved the parts that featured Zoe’s big, loud Greek family as the dynamics are so similar to my big, loud Italian family. Minus trying to arrange my marriage to a traditional Italian guy. The chemistry between Chase and Zoe was just incredible and yet I loved how they really had to take the time to learn how to coexist in the same house without tension by learning each other’s love languages. Marriage takes work and they were willing to put in the work. I really enjoyed how they didn’t set a time limit of “we’ll stay married for a year and then divorce peacefully.” Like no. It was all in and as the reader, you just had to wait for the I love yous! Which is exactly what we expect from marriage of convenience romance books. If you haven’t seen me say this about any other Jess Mastorakos book, I will say it again, you should definitely start reading now! She has so many great books!

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I’m writing an honest and voluntary review.

ARC review. The Contract is the 5th book in Jess Mastorakos’ Brides of Beaufort series. Jess’ characters are well developed and could be your good friends. Zoe and Chase are intriguing as their relationship blossoms as they script “The Contract.” Their developing relationship and storyline are believable as they draw you into their plans and have you rooting for their HEA. Mastorakos’ books are a great way to relax and The Contract makes for a stress free afternoon.

Zoe

Marriage to help each other out turns out to be what their hearts have led them too. Family for him and a friend and companionship for her. She wants to be independent but family makes demands. His family only wants rewards. Together they find their answer.

How exciting to see little Chase grow up and get married! I remember reading about him at age 17 wanting to enlist and his struggles. Over the course of two different series we’ve gotten glimpses of him. Now to read his own story was super cool. I loved it! I have always been a fan of My Big Fat Greek Wedding so to read a Greek wedding story like this was fun. I loved how they faced their problems and even though there were many bumps they kept their determination and focus on their marriage.
Loved the blurb about Nate’s story and I can’t wait to read that one next! Yay!

Ahhh! I love the marriage of convenience troupe and I was beyond excited when I saw this book! It was just amazing!!! The Contract is the fifth book in Jess Mastorakos’ Brides of Beaufort series. Chase gets his own book which is awesome. He has been through so much and definitely deserved his own story.
Zoe was fun and I adored her family. She loved her big Greek family and their traditions but she also wanted to choose her own life. I loved how Zoe still respected her family but how she also stood up for what she believed in. It was cute to read about her interacting with Chase. She wanted him to be happy and she loved having him with her. Zoe had to figure out what it meant to love Chase and how to make a marriage of convenience work.
Chase was a sweetheart. Zoe had captured his heart, but he never knew how to say more. It was cute to read about Chase interacting with Zoe and her family. They accepted him. Chase had to learn to work through his family issues and what it meant to marry Zoe.
Chase and Zoe were a sweet couple. They encouraged each other to be better and they tried to understand each other. I enjoyed reading about their interactions and I loved how they were friends first. I also adored Zoe’s family, they were just a lot of fun. Chase and Zoe had to learn that marriage was hard but that it was worth it. The story was easy to read and I read this book in one day!
The Contract is perfect and I would totally recommend it! It is definitely my favorite Mastorakos’ book right now! I am also so excited for the next book. Mastorakos’ books just keep on getting better and better. The Contract is a clean marriage of convenience romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

The Contract is the fifth book in the Brides of Beaufort series by Jess Mastorakos. Zoe Katsaros and Chase Mitchell are fellow Marines and best friends especially after they were on deployment together. His family is about to lose everything and he can’t send extra money home. Her family is pushing for marriage to a Greek man she doesn’t like or love. Thanks to dual military benefits and his willingness to embrace her Greek family’s traditions, Zoe suggests a marriage of convenience as the answer to their problems. They discuss terms and set their plan into motion. However, married life isn’t all they thought it would be, even to a best friend. Their arrangement started out as a means to an end; however, Chase will do everything he can to make it much, much more.
When I started Chase and Zoe’s story, I wasn’t sure I would like it as well as I did the previous books. It did have a different vibe than the others. However, there were a lot of deep issues present in the story and I cheered for them and ended up falling in love with their story. Parental expectations. Family traditions and culture. And responsibility of adult children to their parents. I loved how strong Zoe was as she loved her family, her culture and their traditions but deep in her heart, she wanted something more than an arranged marriage. I wanted to hug Chase as he struggled helping his parents and I was angry on his behalf when he learned the truth. What is the truth? You’ll have to read the story to find out. I highly, highly recommend The Contract. And if you haven’t started this series, what are you waiting for?

The Contract is available in paperback and eBook

I love the way Jess writes sweet! There is an undertone to the not sweet part, that is still sweet! This book is about the very young Chase and Zoe. We’ve met him several times before and I’ve always had a soft spot for him because of his dad. He enlisted to get away from his parents and build a life all his own. We find out that he hasn’t actually gotten away from them, but has been guilted back into sending them money to help them.
Zoe is as young as Chase and as bad as his family is her is GREAT! They are a large, loud, loving Greek family. She also joined the Marines to chart her own path and as much as she loves her family and time with them she wants to make her own life decisions and live on her terms.
Hence, The Contract. Some Marine buddies tell the friends about how they can get more money by being married and Chase and Zoe fly with it. For as young as they are they definitely care about each other and are mature in this relationship. Zoe’s family welcomes Chase as one of their own and he is as happy as he has ever been. The part he is struggling with is his parents coming for the big Greek wedding. He finally stands up to them securing that Zoe is his number one.
This is a great, sweet book. I loved how these two fought for each other with each other and remembered that their friendship is their foundation and grew from that point. Well done, great story!

Title: The Contract
Author: Jess Mastorakos

Ch: 25 plus epilogue

Pg: 231

Series: The Brides of Beaufort 5

Genre: Contemporary romance

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: self

The Contract by Jess Mastorakos is My big Fat Greek wedding but with Marines with one of my favorite troupes and I loved it. Zoe and Chase are both Marines and friends with very different families. Chase is a surfer from Hawaii turned Marine with a slightly dysfunctional family. But Zoe comes from a large Greek family who wants her to have a traditional Greek life. Both their family’s issues lead to them listing to advice from a friend they end up in a marriage of convenience.

Marriage of convenience is one my favorite troupes, but it tends to only work in historical fiction. But Jess proves if done right it works in contemporary romance as well. I loved meeting Zoe’s family but importantly I loved following Zoe and Chase from friendship to what might be. And I loved that I got a Greek family like one of my favorite movies but with a Marine my all-time favorite hero both in books and real life.

Cute and clean Marriage of Convenience

Well, this was a pleasant surprise. This story is quite well written, and I like that these characters talked about their issues. There wasn't some big dramatic blow-up. I liked how the characters were adults and communicated. I find that a lot of romance novels have some very flippant, immature explosions that could have been prevented by simply talking. This was my first Mastorakos novel, and I'm sure I will read more. I liked all the Greek traditions interwoven throughout this story, and I loved the focus on family. Plus, a marriage of convenience is always a win for me. I didn't give this 5 full stars because I wanted to know more about Chase's parents at the end. I liked how Chase was direct with them, but I wanted a little more closure there. Great romance.

Content: PG. Completely closed door. Triggers with emotionally controlling parents and near death experience in the military
Language: No language
Religious: This is about a very tight-knit Greek community, so there's a lot of talk about the Greek Orthodox church. Also, one of the characters converts so that the marriage can take place a certain way for acceptance into the family. So while this isn't a preachy book in any way as religion isn't discussed at all, there is a lot of discussion about "tradition".

Happy reading!!

The Contract is the fifth book in the Brides of Beaufort Series set in South Carolina. This story features Chase who was introduced back in the Kailua Series and his best friend Zoe who happens to belong to a large Greek family. Chase enjoys spending time at Zoe’s family home as he has never had a happy home life and he especially loves all the Greek food. Zoe is one tough Marine who saved Chase’s life when she pulled him to safety on a deployment. They are true best friends who spend all their extra time together and haven’t figured out they could be more. When they decide on a contract marriage it will benefit them both. Chase can send more money home to his parents who guilt him every payday into sending more. For Zoe, if she marries Chase, she can get out of an arranged marriage set up between her parents with their restaurant cook. Somewhere between the quick courthouse wedding and the big Greek Wedding two months later they discover they truly love each other. I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down until the end when Chase finally deals with his parents and he and Zoe have there happily ever after.

I absolutely LOVED the Contract. I'm a big Jess Mastorakos fan enjoying all of her books and loving this series but this one has to be my favorite. Chase and Zoe are such a run and enjoyable couple as both care for each other as more than friends but neither speaks up for their own reasons. I loved the conversation they have when they go to look at the apartment.
Oh the Greek fire and passion that Zoe shows during their first real fight made her my new all time favorite heroine. I'd say her words woke Chase up some and got him thinking. Then Chase's talking to his parents at the airport with Zoe's support talk about drama filled.
Once I started reading this book I absolutely couldn't put it down. Learning more about Greek traditions was very entertaining especially when they made comparisons to The Big Fat Greek Wedding (this was all I knew about Greek traditions before reading this book). You can't go wrong in picking up this book, you will be enjoy every minute of it.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book because marriage of convenience stories are hit or miss on if I like them. I really liked the characters' relationship starting out, I was worried their fun, lighthearted friendship would be ruined by the end of the book, as tends to happen in these types of stories. But, the tone stayed that way and allowed the relationship to be super adorable as it moved into more than just friendship. I really loved these two together. I enjoyed seeing them interact with the family. The family was great, I absolutely loved them. I honestly could read more books just about the family and all of their crazy antics.

Needless to say, I will definitely be recommending this book. I enjoyed every second of it, especially all of the little nods to My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It's been a long time since I watched that movie, but after reading this book, I feel like I have to. It added to the pleasure and the atmosphere of this book. It was perfect.

I read an ARC of this book for free, and I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Ok this might be my favorite of the series so far!

♡ Read this if you enjoyed watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding and/or Purple Hearts.

Zoe and Chase are both Marines and have been friends for a while, each secretly harboring more feelings than they let on.

She comes from a huge Greek family where tradition and family is everything but her parents are pushing her to marry soon and marry a Greek. He comes from less caring parents who believe since he left the family business to join the Marines he needs to send them money monthly to help with bills.

When one of their friends mentions that a marriage of contract might help them both, her to settle down and get her parents off her back and him to be able to send more money to his parents because they'd both get married perks and more allowances, they decide to go through with it and while they learn to navigate being newly married best friends the love they have for one another slowly blossoms into the true love of husband and wife which is the cherry on top.

λαμπρός! Loved the latest instalment from Jess Mastorakos.

I've been looking forward to Chase's story ever since he was 'rescued' from Hawaii and joined the Marines (don't ask me which Kailua Marines book that was in!). His family life sucked big time, and then the hazing in one of the earlier books in this series fueled my desire to get inside his head and see him happy. 🤭

Zoe was a firecracker and I loved her! She was the perfect complement to Chase, and her capacity to love (even as a 'tough gal') was just what her bestie needed.

Ah. Really enjoyed this emotive tale (read it in a day) and the way Ms Mastorakos weaves her characters into one big, happy Marine family. I also liked the Greek traditions interspersed throughout the story in a natural, unforced way, and the way Zoe's family and Chase's Marine family welcomed each of them into the fold.

NB I received an ARC of this novel.

Another great book from Jess M! Zoe Katsoras and Chase Mitchell are Marine Corp buddies. They’ve know each other since basic and are best friends. Zoe comes from a traditional Greek family not only did she not want to work at the family restaurant, she joined the marines and is trying to get them to lay off her while they want an arranged marriage. Chase’s family is having major money problems back in Hawaii with their fishing business and a second mortgage. Both issues which his parents brought on themselves and are now putting guilt on Chase to fix it. As he sends every bit of extra money to them Solution to the problem a contract marriage! It’s a perfect idea Chase helps his folks with their money problems and Zoe gets her parents off her back. At least that’s how it all starts until they both realize that they have stronger feelings then just friendship and the two of them give each other strength!

Marriage of convenience is definitely my favorite troupe and Jess mastorakos is my favorite author, so I was definitely excited to read this book. I already had expectations as to what I feel should happen, but the story went above my expectations. I was hooked from the beginning. I loved Zoe's Greek family and their acceptance of Chase. Chase is definitely in the top 3 of my favorites. He had such a crappy home life and he decided to better himself and not let it stop him from doing something great. I loved how chase and Zoe supported each other with whatever they faced. Chase deciding to stand up for himself so that he and Zoe could have a better was great. Essentially he chose Zoe over his parents. A fantastic read and cannot wait for more books from Jess. I really hope she writes another troupe like this in a future series.

Zoe comes from a loving boisterous Greek family. Chase it seems grew up in a more sterile environment without having love shown, be praised or encouraged. But his parents sure knew how to dole out guilt and responsibility he doesn’t own because they are selfish and lazy. Because he feels he owes his parents a debt because he joined the Marines instead of staying to run the family business, he and Zoe concoct this idea to get married for the extra financial benefits. They have been besties for some time and love each other as friends. Can it be more? Will he let his parents continue to guilt blackmail him for money? Her family sucks him into the family fold and gives him the affection he never received from his parents. Well written and a very enjoyable read.

I’m always interested to see how the marriage-of-convenience trope would work in modern times because it doesn’t always seem realistic. But Jess Mastorakos has done a fantastic job at writing this trope.

I loved Zoe and Chase. It was really fun to see the marriage-of-convenience trope combined with the friends-to-more trope. What I also really liked, was that even though they were getting married for the financial benefits, both were in it for good and were open to the marriage eventually becoming more than just beneficial.

I loved the scenes with Zoe’s family. It was fun seeing all the Greek traditions and I definitely loved all the My Big Fat Greek Wedding references.

This is just another fantastic book by Jess Mastorakos and if you haven’t read the rest of the series you are missing out. All the books in the series are standalones. You definitely need to grab this book and the rest of the series today.

Love, Love, Love this book. The characters are great. Storyline is great! I just wish it was a longer book! It ended way too soon! I love the way previous couples are still presented with updates in their lives along with the new story for the new "couple" being focused on. Maybe at the end of each series, a "finale" book with "what they are doing now" can be done with a few chapters on each couple "now". I love the fact that "chosen" family is just as important and powerful as "blood" family in these books. I envy the friendship of the couples and how they pull together in these books. Powerful! Good clean reads! Highly recommend reading them all.

Another great story in the Brides of Beaufort series. I'm so glad Chase got his HEA. He was introduced earlier and he so deserved a great love story.

Chase and Zoe are both Marines and have been friends for a while. They have been there for each other through lots of different issues. So when Chase needs help with money for his family, Zoe agrees to a fake marriage to get more money to help Chase, even though her family is Greek and wants her to marry someone else. They, of course, realize they have fallen for each other without even realizing it through all their time together. Zoe is so good for Chase and helping him to deal with his needy family. This was so good.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this Brides of Beaufort series. Each story is a stand alone but the characters reappear in each other’s stories. It’s like revisiting old friends and makes the story so much richer. We met Chase when he first joined the Marines way back in the Kailua series. Now he has his own story with Zoe, a fellow Marine, and his best friend. They secretly both would like to be more than best friends but Zoe comes from a huge Greek family, and neither can see a future together marrying outside her culture. But as circumstances bring them to unite in a marriage of convenience, the fun and adjustments begin. Lots of wonderful Greek traditions and foods are brought to light in this delightful story!

The book had my attention from the first chapter. I am loving all the couples in the Brides of Beaufort series. My newest set of friends is Zoe and Chase. We met Chase while he was based in Hawaii in the last series. I was glad to see he would get a HEA.

I love how Zoe and Chase moved from friends to more, and the marriage started without true love, will they stick it out? They have always been there for each other, even during tough times, and her family likes him. Then there are family situations, hers wants a Greek son-in-law, and his is financially hurting. But their story ended much too fast and left me wanting more.

Jess Mastorakos' "The Contract" was another delightful read from her Brides of Beaufort series. The entertaining page-turning plot was filled with family drama, snippets of hilarity, and romance. Moreover, the main characters, Zoe and Chase, were well-suited for each other and oozed chemistry. Kudos to the author for incorporating Greek dialogue and additional Greek vocabulary as well as the dancing, the food, and the special customs into the narrative which held my interest and gave me insight into Greek culture.

Can best friends marry without falling in love?

Chase is in a tough spot. His parents have made some bad decisions and are now expecting him to either come up with the money they need or come home. He still has another year to his commitment, so going home is a no go. Then one of his buddies jokingly suggests a contract marriage. Could he do that to his best friend?

Zoe’s family wants her to come home and marry a nice Greek guy. Love will come later. But she loves being a Marine. When the marriage contract is suggested, she has her reservations. Why not marry her best friend? As long as he’s willing to “become Greek.”

I really enjoyed this clean rom-com story about Chase and Zoe's friends-to-more relationship. The Greek culture lessons combined with scenarios from My Big Fat Greek Wedding made for some laugh-out-loud moments for me. I'm sure Chase wondered more than once what he had got himself into.

My favorite part was the advice Zoe's father gave Chase before the wedding. You'll have to read The Contract for yourself to see what the advice was but I will say that it's advice everyone can take to heart.

I was given an ARC of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are mine, given voluntarily.

I love the way this story starts out with Zoe and Chase being best friends. Each of them starts having feelings for the other one without even realizing they are falling in love.

Zoe is from a large Greek family, and Chase is an only child with parents who didn't give him a good life growing up. He enjoyed spending time with Zoe's family.

Will they reveal their feelings to each other? Could this be a HEA for them? A very good read.

This one is sooooo good! Chase comes from an abusing and using family. Zoe comes from a big loving family. Both families are disappointed that their child has joined the Marines over the family business. Zoe's family even has her husband picked out for her! Both Zoe and Chase love the Marines. To get their families off their back, Chase and Zoe decide to marry. How this all works out for them is interesting to say the least. If you are going to read this book, start it in the morning or yplan on being up all night,
