I just pulverized a bad-guy who committed crimes against innocent supernaturals (and fashion). But there’s no time to celebrate. The hidden world is a hydra. I chop one baddie down and another one sprouts in his place.
Now, as more supernaturals vanish, a powerful female witch has made my shortlist of suspects. I managed to get one step ahead of her, so she just did what every jackass does when they’re in a corner.
She made it personal.
When things get personal, my trigger finger gets itchy. One of us isn’t coming out of this alive.
Place your bets.
If you enjoy Orlando A. Sanchez, Kimbra Swain, Shayne Silvers, John P. Logsdon, Michael Anderle, or K.F. Breene, you'll dig adventuring with Dred Dixon and her ex-NYC Flameheart, Hank Stone.
N.A. Grotepas writes stories with snarky female leads discovering their found family and fighting against maniacal Bond-villain types. Her characters typically inhabit fascinating and inviting locations that provide readers with an escape from the "real world." N.A. studied folklore in college and after obtaining an M.A., almost pursued a doctorate in the field, but was saved from that drudgery by her laziness in gathering letters of recommendation. After a stint in the publishing industry as an editor, she left to pursue her own desires of conquering worlds--both real and imagined--one book at a time. (source: Amazon.com)
“Go into the heart of the fire, protect the flame.” —The Flameheart motto.
Dangerous people, deadly deeds, with a hint of mystery and makes The Stone To Bind, the second book in this series so much darker and ominous. It’s even better than book-1, if possible! Many secrets and intriguing manifestations unravel but there are still more to discover. I can feel Dred, the frustration of not knowing what’s going on, the whys, the secret history of her past, the discovery of new powers, new enemies, the unwanted feelings of developing love.. it’s a rollercoaster of a story! Filled with Nerve wracking and heart wrenching scenarios, action packed and full of witty dialogue. I love the way Dred’s thinking is written, snarky and fun, besides being emotional and truthful.
“Do not rely on crutches. Your mind is a tool. Use it as such.” How, if even Dred doesn’t know her potential and who or why are her enemies after her? The switchbacks are devastating, for both the characters and readers alike! The Fates who guard The Fabric are not helpful at all! And the end..oh my! What an unsuspecting ending! Nicole Grotepas has excelled herself! I’m loving this series so much! I highly recommend it! On to Water To Warp #3, can’t wait to know the outcome! And for my utmost pleasure, Air To Weave #4 launches next month! I love the titles, they are enigmatic and intriguing! And the covers are fantastic! Did I mention I highly recommend this 5* series?
Stone to Bind is the second book in the new Dred Dixon Chronicles by N.A. Grotepas. Dred and Hank (Dred’s new partner) are still working out the specifics of their relationship/partnership, while having to deal with the evolving threat of Joe Smith. What is he ultimately after? What does he want to accomplish through the ritual? And Dred is working out her issues. While considering possible alternatives in her relationship with Hank, she is worried that her thoughts would make her a prisoner of the idea; totally missing the point that her attitude and fear make her a prisoner of the idea’s antithesis. She definitely has some survivors’ guilt to work through. I enjoyed the action and the characters in this story, and I really loved finding out about Utah. For example, I had never heard of the Gilgal Sculpture Garden. So if you are looking for action and adventure, this book (and series) is for you.
This is the second book in the Dred Chronicles. She starts learning more about her magic, faces her baggage for her former partner that was killed, starts to analyze her relationship with her new partner, desks with a surly teenage roommate and starts figuring out her magic. And this all as she goes after a megalomaniac who wants to take over the world at the expense of the supernatural. Just a regular day for the Flame hearts. Hang on!
All the characters you’d expect, human, paranormal and supernatural come together in an exciting and hair raising battle of good versus evil. Dred is growing, maturing, learning to find and use her magic. Overall this is a very eventful book.
This is another good book in this series. It continues the story from the first book with another element and a new villain. Fred gets to learns some awesome new spells and find out more about herself - while giving her more questions. There is plenty of action, sarcasm and 90’d references!
