After reading a few books in this vein, I'm coming to the conclusion that there are many different ways to go about advertising on Amazon, partly because nobody knows exactly how those inscrutable algorithms work.
Everybody seems to have their own methods for setting up ads, deciding on how much to bid, figuring out what to target, etc. But this is one of the stronger books I've read on the subject. Holmes walks the reader through setting up various types of campaigns over seven days (although, in reality, it will take longer than that because you need some time for the ads to gather relevant data). The book is filled with clearly labelled screenshots of the Amazon ads dashboard, so readers can follow along and easily build their own campaigns.
It's too soon for me to know whether this method will work for me or not. But the book itself is great: clear, concise, and packed full of information. I recently read another book on Amazon ads called Amazon Ads for Authors: Tips and Strategies to Sell Your Books by Deb Potter, and I was frustrated by her continual mentions of "wallpapering" certain Amazon pages with your ads. I had no idea what this even meant, let alone how to do it. But I believe this is what Holmes calls "brand protection". (I've also seen people refer to "selfie ads"; I assume these are similar.) Holmes walks the reader through the entire process of creating these "brand protection" ads. Now I get it!
As with many books on Amazon ads, there's the annoying assumption that you're making profits already and not just dumping money into Amazon's coffers. I'm not sure if this is an outdated assumption on the part of people who started publishing (and advertising) years ago, but I've seen many new authors complain about the same issue: Amazon ads are very difficult to get profitable these days. It's all fine and good to say that you need to spend some money to collect data, but when the data you need is actual sales numbers, and all you're doing is paying for ads with no returns, it's frustrating, to say the least.
So, it remains to be seen whether this book will actually help get the profits rolling in or not. But, as a guidebook on how to set up ads, it's a strong one. I'd definitely recommend it to those who are looking to dip their toes into Amazon advertising. Unlike a few other books on the subject out there, this one is suitable for beginners as well as more advanced users.
The book is detailed and gives solid instruction for building Amazon ads. Unfortunately, after almost 100,000 impressions and only 4 sales, I gave up on Amazon ads for my books. Your mileage may (and hopefully will) vary. This book will definitely teach you how to set up the ads. Good luck!
This book by Matthew J. Holmes is an excellent introduction to Amazon ads for authors, especially indie authors. The advantages include: not assuming that the reader is a techie or a marketing expert and, as a consequence, using language that is clear to everyone regardless of expertise level; clear, concise instructions starting with the basics like how to set up an account; good explanation of how the ad system works; good illustrations that help us know where to click and when; and an overall system to help us start with the basics and move up to more complicated campaigns. Recommended, especially for newbies just starting out on Amazon ads.
This is a very well written book, and the author does a great job of making advertising with Amazon ads understandable and achievable for someone who has not worked with them before. I highly recommend this to anyone who is trying to grow their Amazon ads revenue!
This is a great walkthrough to help understand how to use Amazon Ads for books. It also does a great job of explaining all the different terms and categories which can be overwhelming. The book provides very detailed walkthroughs of all the different types of ads. Using the strategies here, I got my first ad sale!
I’m an author of three books and I haven’t used Amazon Ads to get sales yet. So I was naturally curious about how to do this. This book gives enough details to get going so you can confidently set up Amazon Ads. I’d recommend this to any authors who are curious on how they can start getting sales with Amazon Ads.
Of all the books on Amazon Ads, I found this one to be the most helpful. It is simple, a one, two , three approach. It there are Amazon Ads in your future, I highly recommend this book. As an added bonus, it is a free download.

A good, step by step into to Amazon ads, designed to be worked through over a seven day period. This will be especially helpful for people who are new to Amazon ads.
This was comprehensive and thorough, but I found it to be a lot to take in at once. That might cease to be a problem when I need to go through it point by point when I get to that, um, point in my self-publishing career. Also, graphics are a great idea, and usually they add to a reader's understanding, but these were so small that I couldn't really read them. I was reading the Kindle version, and I know I need new glasses, so maybe that was the problem.
