I really enjoyed that the two of them brought out the best in one another. I like that they grew and changed into more confident versions of themselves. Of course, like all romance novels, there were a few misunderstandings, the dating coach trope was awesome, fake relationship 👌 and it was a best friends brother. I enjoyed it all. Now, I'll stop gushing so you can all read my gushing book notes.
- Arie and Quinn - I like the name Quinn - mutually beneficial relationship 👌 - Arie is adorable - I think it's hilarious when teenage boys make grown women giggle. Is that real life?? - seriously, Arie is so sweet - breakfast conversation 👌👌 - I really like this book. It's a fake relationship trope but their real relationship is growing so organically that it feels tropeless, almost. Does that make sense? Like, girl meets boy, feelings develop, they date. No tricks. - the kissing tutorial. - oh the foul shot. Adorable - Thomas and all the BB names 🤣 - the unsent messages 💔 - Guys. Why was that the cutest??
No one writes sweet YA romance like Emily! Hallisburg Prep is fresh and fun with truly likeable characters and the best friendships.
Shy, quiet Quinn has been crushing on her best friend’s twin brother Arie from the moment she laid eyes on him. It’s been 3 years and he’s always had a girl on his arm until recently when he’s suddenly been single for a noticeable amount of time. Not that Quinn’s got time to worry about that since she’s somehow been cast as the titular Cinderella in the school’s play instead of directing it like she wanted.
Arie’s the school’s basketball star and resident playboy. He’s charming, confident and seems to attract the attention of every available female within a 10 yard radius. The last thing he needs this year is distraction. Girls have always been fun but basketball has to be his priority this year if they want to win the Championship.
Can you see where this is heading? Quinn needs to learn how to recreate chemistry with the play’s Prince Charming while in front of an audience and Arie needs to focus on basketball. Hello Dating Coach, meet your fake girlfriend! Throw in a kooky drama teacher, tons of bromance and lots of John Hughes worthy feels.
There’s also a couple bantering scene stealers in here that had me giggling every time too!
Grab this treat of a read today. It’s the perfect post-holiday pick me up!
This is such a cute read with likeable and endearing characters. Definitely found myself smiling through most of the book. It was nice to read about a female main character who was wasn't frustratingly annoying.
The setting is realistic and draws you in and the secondary characters are entertaining. Definitely recommend.
I can't wait for the next book by this author. I love the clean writing style and the cute story of two teens. It was easy to relate to and the characters were a lot of fun to read about. Arie was such a nice guy and helped Quinn out of her shell. I liked how both the character grew so much throughout this book. I need the next book in this series!
I received a review copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The first thing that comes to me is 'That book was so funny' and 'Arie is such an amazing guy'. The characterization of each and every character was perfectly written. The story was really good too. I was so excited to read Quinn and Arie’s story when they were introduced in The Boy I Love To Hate. I love to read about unrequited love. And I was rooting for Quinn from the last book in this series. I liked how it was really comforting to read in the holidays.
Quinn is a wallflower who has the biggest crush on Arie, her best friend, Avery’s twin brother. Quinn is casted as Cinderella in the Winter Play Event which she had auditioned to direct. Being a wallflower, it is difficult for her to be in the spotlight.
Arie, a senior, twin to Avery, is the Captain of the school's basketball team. He has a secret and he also needs a fake girlfriend to keep all the girls away from to him so that he can concentrate in his game.
Arie agrees to be her dating- coach if she becomes his fake-girlfriend.
No swearing. C and W Level- 1 Romance
I bet everything that we are going to see Avery and Cruz's story next. I would be happy just to get a book though.
𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 (h) has been in the drama club since her first day at Hallisburg Prep, working her way up from stagehand to lighting assistant to stage manager for the Winter Play—the biggest theater event of the year at her school. When she is set on directing, she never expects to get the Cinderella role. It makes her nervous, especially because she’s never dated or kissed anyone so she doesn’t know how she can pretend to be in love with someone for the show. One night, overwhelmed — she sneaks out and overhears a conversation between 𝐀𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐉𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 (H) basketball all star, and the girl he’s had a crush on for a while/secretly dating, only to realize that she’s breaking up with him. When he notices her, they form a silent agreement to keep what she heard between one another. That is until he finds out Everly had a boyfriend the entire time and was playing him. He is tired of saying no to people and rejecting girls, so he proposes to fake-date Quinn, which serves as a win-win. He gets people to stay away from him so he can avoid drama and focus on basketball and Quinn gets boy advice.

Arie calling her Quinnie was so cute and they had the cutest dynamic, it’s a HS romance so you can imagine how wholesome the romance was between the popular boy x nerdy girl. He slowly starts falling for her and looking for her while he’s playing at his games, it’s the cutest thing ever. He is so supportive and cheered her on when she was gaining confidence 💞💘 . There was minimal drama after a miscommunication but I’m glad that they both confessed their feelings for and realized how much they meant to each other. The way he would call her a star and tell her that she was capable of doing anything she set her mind to. I love them together more than I thought I would, especially because he was so clueless and never realized that she had a crush on him for years??? EVEN HIS FRIENDS KNEW, it’s so funny.

Twinnie and Quinnie 🤞🏽I love these two and how Avery got the twin sense and knew Arie had feelings for Quinn. She was such a supportive best friend and not toxic at all, they’re so cute.
I know they mentioned Cruz was like family, but why am I sensing a connection between Avery and him?? Do they have a book too…
𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥, this was such a fast paced read but it was the perfect HS romance!!

The only other book I've read of Lowry was 'Trey Carter is My Rebel Boyfriend' and I low-key hated it. Thinking back, my issue with that entry was that the reality of the book didn't live up to its premise of the heroine finding herself (instead that relationship became the biggest crutch ever and the guy was like so not it for me).
Anyway, that aside, this really surprised me.
Quinn has had a crush on her best friend's twin, Arie, forever but he doesn't really notice her. This all changes when Arie decides to focus on basketball and asks Quinn to be his fake girlfriend to keep other girls off his back (his life is really hard). This works out for Quinn because she can use his help with working on her on-stage presence and chemistry for the upcoming school play.
This just really worked for me. The premise, oddly enough actually didn't feel super contrived for whatever reason. And more than anything I think Lowry nailed the friendship really well. Quinn and Arie were fun to read about, they were so sweet and adorable. Even the end-game conflict felt fairly reasonable. Quinn feels like Arie is still hung up on someone else and Arie felt like Quinn wasn't really into him. This makes sense because of the way they got together in the first place. And it also didn't drag on for ages. Ultimately, this was a cute high school romance and I got what I was expecting. With the Trey Carter book I was expecting this wonderful coming of age, learning who you are, with a side of romance and instead got a "this romance will shape who I am and this guy has every hang up in the world".
The very last bit did get suuuper cutesy but that's the price of love I suppose.
The reason I keep bringing that up is that I think I may give more Lowry books a try since I know that I quite like her writing style.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 stars) This book releases January 6, 2022!
Reader’s Notes:
– this is told from both Quinn and Arie’s points of view
– this is book 2 of a series, it is not required to read book one to understand this, but it is definitely more enjoyable if you do!
Review:
This series just keeps getting better! I loved the ice skating, Princess Bride, stars scenes! But all of it was awesome! I loved Quinn and Arie together, they were so sweet with one another 😍. And that was before Arie even realized he liked Quinn as more than a friend.
Quinn has been in love with Arie, her best friend’s twin brother, since she first layer eyes on him their freshman year. So when he suggests that she fake date him and he’ll coach her on romance, she thinks she’s dreaming. But in the end she agrees, with the impossible hope that as she gets to know him better her crush will go away. Unfortunately for her, it only intensifies.
Arie doesn’t really know his twin sister’s best friend well, but when she witnesses his embarrassing end to a secret, she’s the only one he feels he can turn to after lying to his friends about it. When Quinn brings up her worries over her role in the Winter Play, he wants to help her. And that’s when he comes up with an idea that could help them both. Quinn and Arie can fake date to keep the ladies from bugging him during basketball season, and in return Arie will teach Quinn how to convey romance and interest for a play she was cast in. What Arie didn’t realize was that he would enjoy the time they spent together, and that he would fall for her.
Will either of them open up to the other about their feelings? Will there be any misunderstandings before they get the chance?
You should definitely read and find out their love story 🥰
Quinn has never dated anyone seriously because she's only got eyes for Arie Jensen, her friend's twin brother and Hallisburg Prep basketball star. She wants to direct the drama club play but gets cast as Cinderella instead. She is petrified because she is not big on center stage attention and because the role involves snogging with aspiring movie star Thomas Bennet- Brown. Arie has recently broken up with his girlfriend Everly and offers to act as Quinn's dating coach.
This is a very cute book and I loved every word. Both main characters are lovely and they make sense together. Besides that there are sweet friendships, emotions that feel real enough, a lot of fun bantering dialogue and a fairytale princess worthy grand gesture in the end. The conflict between them depends on not speaking about how they feel but happily they are not too stubborn about it.
Steam level: kissing. Series status: you don't need to read the first book in the series to enjoy this but you should because it was great too. I'm a bit too old for most high school romance but this series is worth it for me. Favorite funny bit: Arie's nicknames for Bennet-Brown.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The book contains some of the most sweetest Characters ever. Arie is such a sweetie. I love how he is popular but he is so sweet. The way he really cares about his twin sister and Quinn is so nice. I like how he had such close friendships with his teammates and the bond between the teammates and the players is so nice. Also, he just is such a sweet person overall. He is such a good person and that is one of my favorite things about him.
Quinn was also equally memorable. I loved how she was super shy but had the confidence. And when she started falling in love with airy it was super nice. I like how she had good for friendships and also try to grow as a character and she really did.
The whole premise of fake dating/trying to have a dating coach is one of my favorite tropes. This book does this trope Super well. I loved the chemistry and the slow burn romance. I also liked how each of the characters really cared for each other and you could see that they complemented each other.
I also like the hint and the clues towards the next book. I cannot wait for Cruz and Avery to get there happily ever after. I highly recommend this book. 5/5 stars.
This was a solid continuation of the Hallisburg Prep series, this time following Quinn who has a longstanding crush on one of her friends’ brother, Arie. They embark on a fake dating journey so that Quinn can learn about physical chemistry since she’s been cast as Cinderella in her school’s production which she did not try-out for because she wanted to be behind the scenes acting as the director instead, and so that Arie can focus on basketball without all of the girlies in the school trying to go out him but also because he was cheated on by his secret girlfriend and oh my god the drama.
Apologies for that last run-on sentence, it was unavoidable in the way that laziness almost always results in unfettered chaos.
This delivered in every aspect that I expected, in that, like it’s predecessor, it was a quick, cute and clean read that verged on too cheeseball by the end, but I was entertained nonetheless. It has also sated my need for boarding/prep school settings and I am ready to change up genres.
This looks exactly like what you’d expect it to contain within it’s pages so if anything about the cover is your thing, this will probably be a nice time for you too.
It took me less than 24 hours to complete this book. I LOVE IT! Bestfriends brother stories are so cute even better is that Avery didn't care that Quinn was in love with her brother. Fake dating turned into love, and the secret was hit head on with Avery which was the sweetest thing for Quinn and Arie to do. I love that. It wasn't like a forbidden love, which lord knows I love those, but this was better. A fake relationship to help each other out in there prospective areas of extracurricular's and sports, and it worked out and one fell in love with the other and the other fell more in love with the other. Classic. I love how the jealousy was for Arie, he had no idea he was jealous and the things he said about Thomas and his last name just showed that he was. He doesn't care what others think, which is refreshing. And even though he didn't see her like she saw him since freshman year, he made up for it with all the attention and the attentiveness he gave her and soon realized that he was an idiot for not seeing her. But when he did finally see her, oh lord was it good. I can't wait for book 3 to come out in October. I love this series and cannot wait to read more on the doormies!
Overall it's a cute story but one as someone who is beyond over the clichéd blonde heroine it seriously irritates me when there's a brunette on the cover so you feel safe from repetition only to learn the cover's a feint and it's another of the endless stories about blondes. I think I could write a a book level piece myself on just how over the clichéd blonde leading lady I am and matching her with tall dark and handsome shows an entire lack of originality from the author.
Parts of this were good but one if felt like scenes were missing, two they never once tell the reader who spread the story about them breaking up, they never address their insecurities or that moment in the gym or the game. There's all these unaddressed lose ends that bothered me. There are outside relationships introduced and never dealt with and just a lot of outside of kissing scenes that lose their worth when they're left ad lose ends.
Overall it's not a bad story, but it's more in the realm of okay when it had the potential to be great if time had been taken to shore up the lose ends
You get sucked into the book. Aire and Quinn are likable, relatable characters. This has one of my favorite tropes - Fake Dating. Loved every chapter in the book.
My high points in this book : 1. The way Arie gradually falls for Quinn. 2. Those eye lock lessons (Note to future self - should definitely try it out :P) 3. Just like Princess Bride - the author did build up the expectations of the readers. 4. Cruz and Avery's banter. (Eagerly waiting to see how these two would get together :D) 5. The way Arie looks for Quinn in his basketball game. (uff - I am a goner)
Fake Dating, Best Friend's Brother, Cinderella Play, Boarding School, High School Romance, Late night sneaking out by the Lake, window climbing, star gazing, Basketball, Drama - you have got it all covered in this book.
Set a reminder for January 6, 2022, to get a hold of this lovely book.
While this is the second book in the series, it's the first book by this author I've read, and it can be read as a standalone. This story was right up my reading alley as I enjoy the best-friend's-sibling / sibling's-best-friend trope as well as fake relationship stories, and Quinn and Arie turned out to be a perfect match it was easy to root for. I thoroughly enjoyed this cute, light-hearted story, it made me smile (and occasionally laugh out loud), and the "chemistry" lessons were absolutely swoon-worthy, Towards the end, I found the story to be dragging a bit, when both Quinn and Arie suffered from a case of "just talk to each other, dagnabbit".
I'm definitely looking forward to reading more - both in this series and by this author in general.
This book was surprisingly well written. Of course it was super cheesy but the characters were surprisingly not annoying! I loved the Hollywood stars’ children setting. The boarding school they all went to was interesting too. The side characters were fun. I loved how insecure and embarrassed the main girl was and that the boy was athletic and popular but super nice. I loved all the smiling and the uplifting comments to everyone. They were both just genuine and nice people and I liked that. I liked Cruz and Avery together and am excited for their story. Quininie and Twinnie were cute nicknames and I loved all the texting. I like their natural grow to friendship. It was fun to read :) of course it was written for hs so keep that in mind while reading haha I loved all the princess bride references too haha.
you've GOT to be kidding me!!! AHHHHH I LOVED THIS BOOKKKKK What day do i say i finished it if i finished it this morning at 12.10am? i stayed up so late last night reading, thank goodness it was friday and not sunday ahahahhsa IT WAS SO GOOD THOUGH AND NOW WITH MY PRIMARY PLACE WHERE I GET BOOKS FROM IS GONE I CAN'T GET BOOK #3!!!! ahhhh i was wishing so much there'd be a book 3 and there is AND I CAN'T GET IT WHYY kay well this was a great book and i'm seeing great reviews about book 3 so i'm looking forward to reading that one too... we'll see i guess!
i started it yesterday at school and finished it last night/early this morning, it was great and really kept me hooked
I FELT SO BAD WHEN SHE GOT TO THE GAME AND SAW THAT STUPID EVERLY AND THEN WON'T TALK TO HIM OR ANYTHING RAAAAHHHHHHHHH
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review This book was a classic popular guy and theatre geek YA novel and it was really clean. I have been reading a lot of serious novels these days so honestly the timing of this book was perfect. It was very light. I cannot say it had broken any clichés and I might be reading too many YA’s but a lot of them shadow very serious teenagers who grow and mature a lot but I can’t say this book was any same. I could even predict the dialogues so it was THAT predictable, and wouldn’t necessarily say that it was a bad thing because I needed a light and quirky read and this book was exactly that. So Quinn is the daughter of a very famous actress and she has had a long time crush on her best friend’s twin brother, Arie who is a popular guy and plays basketball. Arie has never noticed her and only sees her as his sister’s best friend. She is recruited as the lead of the play aka the Cinderella and she is down in the dumps because she aspires to be a director and not the lead and she does not know how to act/ fake a romance Arie is in a secret relationship with a girl who cheated on her. He is heartbroken and is tired of the girls who are hitting on him because he only wants to focus on his first love- basketball. Since Quinn is the only one who knows about his cheating girlfriend he asks her to become his fake girlfriend and offers to teach her romance. Arie is an all-round perfect guy and I wish he had some flaws because he sounded to perfect to be true haha It is in dual POV. I really loved the read. It was nice, clean, fluffy and sweet with really less teenage angst so would defiantly recommend.
Arie Jensen has all the girls at Hallisburg Prep wanting to date him. He is Quinn Caldwell’s best friend’s twin brother, a star basketball player and popular with everyone. She finds out a big secret of his, and he finds she is worried about how to handle the romance part of her role in the Winter Play, so he makes a deal with her that will help them both. He offers to be her dating coach and teach her if she will pretend to be his fake girlfriend.
The plan should work in theory, except that spending time together brings up real feelings for them to deal with. Will they open up to each other about how they feel? Or will they walk away from something that could be exactly right for them?
This was such a cute, fake relationship, slow burn YA romance. I fell in love with Arie instantly and Quinn too. These two are so opposite yet once they warmed up to each other…well the sparks. I felt all the feels in this story. Some how I just could relate to both characters throughout the whole book and the ups and downs of there relationship.
I really needed this quick sweet read to bring me back to life after the holidays. Oh and this one has a little bit of holiday mixed in which makes it the perfect read for January!
Some of my favorite things in this book was Arie miss saying another characters name, on purpose, all the time. I loved that! And almost any scene with Cruz in it. I hope we get Cruz’s story soon, I have a feeling it will be full of emotions and such a good read!
Oh my goodness, this story is so cute!! This is one of my favorites this author has written, and that's saying A LOT, because I love almost all of them (and even the two I didn't love I still really liked). Quinn and Arie are super sweet together, and I love how their relationship blossoms.
One thing I appreciate in Ms. Lowry's books is how she shows that "jocks" aren't perfect people. They have real feelings and issues, and they're smart. Some writers showcase their football and basketball players as being kinda big dumb animals, and we all know that's not real life. Okay, maybe sometimes. But most of the time it's not.
Just really love this pairing and how things unfolded between Arie and Quinn.
These two are so oppositely perfect for each other and it makes the story flow at such a quick pace you can’t put it down. Quinn is a beautiful but shy drama nerd secretly in love with her best friends twin. Arie is the popular basketball jock whose just found himself at the wrong end of a breakup. They make an agreement to fake date to help each other but fake isn’t always so easy. There’s emotion and heartache, a lot of growing (cause they are in high school), some friendly banter and backup and woven into it all is this sweet budding love that makes you smile.

I enjoyed book 1 of this series, and I was excited to read book 2! Quinn and Arie have such a cute love story. Quinn has been crushing on Arie for years. When he wants to fake a relationship so other girls won’t ask him on dates and he can focus on his basketball game, she agrees. Arie is quickly able to see that quiet Quinn is funny and kind. I love how their relationship is comfortable and full of chemistry. The scene at the basketball game when Arie looks for her. So cute! Of course they have a misunderstanding, but to be followed by a sweet HEA. I enjoyed getting to know Quinn and Arie! I’m looking forward to Cruz and Avery’s story!
I will ever not love Emily’s books! They are just such feel good books that can brighten anyone’s days!
For me its more of a nostalgia, it makes me feel all young again! Her books always brighten my days and I can never get enough!
Quinn and Arie (sigh- heart eyes) they are so freakin cute together. I loved this “fake” dating story. I was so happy for Quinnie …. You meet these two characters in the previous Hallisburg Prep book. So you get an idea of Quinn’s crush and was so happy to see Arie fall in love with the amazing girl she is.
Again amazing story. Nothing but good clean good feelings all around! Love it!
Ooooo yes! This book was amazing! I loved every chapter of it. This is what I want to read, sweet love romance. Arie is the top basketball guy, popular but a great guy. Quinn is the drama geek and his sister’s best friend. They were so sweet together even when it was all fake. The funny part was all the silly nicknames Arie had for Thomas. I can not wait for the next story to come! Please let it be Avery and Cruz’s story! Read this book and this series, you won’t regret it!

Really cute and funny book. Light-hearted and then some. A boy who’s heart was broken and is afraid to commit because he believes she likes someone else. A girl who’s already given her heart and is afraid to show her cards for the possibility of rejection. The romance is slow-paced, but that doesn’t mean I was at the edge of my seat every once in a while ;)

I loved Quinn and Arie's individual characters, as well as their relationship. Sweet, respectful and drama-free. Was a very cute and heartwarming read :)
Favorite scene: all the moments they spent together lol. They just seemed to actually like each other in the way they treated each other and this can be sometimes lost in other romances. Liked this one a lot (they have a special place in my heart now).
This was my favorite book of the series - Quinn and Arie are absolutely adorable. Yes it’s a bit cheesy and unrealistic and some parts are a bit too rushed, but I really enjoyed this one. I have read 9 or 10 books by Emily Lowry and this might be my favorite, just because both characters are just really cute. Might reread it sometime if I need something light to make me smile.
