In This Is Your Captain Speaking, aviation strategist and wellbeing expert Captain Reyné O’Shaughnessy examines mental health in aviation, negative stigma surrounding pilots who seek treatmentPilot psychological health screening methodsThe impact of pilot wellbeing on aviation and public safetyPolicies or programs that protect airline professionals’ mental health Let's make sure your pilot is cleared for takeoff before your next flight!
Captain O covered so many necessary topics in her book. The research and science behind the findings, the how-tos and suggestions for personal mental health, the current FAA stance as well as the importance of this issue. The ability for pilots to ask for help with personal health and issues pertaining to self wellness has been unspoken for too long. Not only unspoken but hushed and frowned upon. I’m thankful for Captain O to bring these facts and ideas to light. We have no choice but to move forward in mental health for the safety of our crews and our passengers.
This book was super educational. I got a chance to meet Reyné O'Shaughnessy at the Women in Aviation Conference in 2022 but didn't get a chance to grab her book. I loved learning all the statistics but wish she had given a little more education on the mindfulness meditation. I guess I'll just have to buy the book she mentions and read it for myself. I will definitely be prioritizing my stress recovery and sleep as well as implementing more mindful meditation and maybe even yoga. This book made me excited to focus on my mental and physical health so I can be a better pilot. 3.75⭐️
